expansion. good evening. i'm david stevenson in for dave wayne. and i'm heather hall. january is coming to a close and it has been dry. we are here with a look at the temperatures. marca, san francisco seemed to cool off. >> yes. what is interesting. warm and seeping in closer to the bay and preventing them from more backup. here is a live look of san francisco. beautiful and we will call it cool to mild and some of the preliminary highs and for oakland 67 degrees and you get an idea where the fog was near fairfield, 67 degrees near the delta and those temperatures maxing out in the 50s for this afternoon. here you can see from the satellite, a loop over the past six hours and there is that central hour fog clearing out and the cooling impacts keeping the temperatures down all day

and more of an offshore flow. look at half-moon bay and 64 degrees last hour and half moon bay around 68 and the beaches were warm today. and actually a distance away. and we are tracking the showers and we will have more in a few minutes. today was the 22nd winter spare the air day of the season which means that burning is banned tonight an wood and logs and other solid fuels is prohibited inside and out and the scientists say they are prohibited since one can pollute a neighborhood. the lanes are open after a bike lift was killed. officers responded to a report of collision between a vehicle

and a cyclist north of fremont avenue. a 34-year-old woman was driving a ford fusion when they collided. the cyclist, a 24-year-old merced man was under the influence. and we know the name of a woman where she was kill under a vehicle toppled on top of her. two vehicles collided and one overturned and she was pronounsed dead. both drivers suffered minor injuries and the cause of accident remains under investigation. hundreds of turkeys in central california have tested positive for bird flu and the poultry company uncovered a flu outbreak at a county ranch. it has since been quarantined. this particular strand of the

bird flu virus carries no health risk. no turkey products have been affect. the wildlife organization rescuing bay area birds are shoulderings the costs without help from the federal government. more than 300 birds have been rescued and 250 birds are still at the center for cleaning and treatment. center officials say they are spending about $9500 a day. and that's almost $80,000 so far. and there is still another two or three weeks worth of work to do. federal relief funding is typically available for oil spills and not aware where the substance came from, more than 150 birds have died. from india comes news that president obama and india's prime minister have broken a deadlock on a long stalled

>> when does it end? jackson touched on the ongoing protests in the streets following the instances of white police officers shooting and killing unarmed black men during sunday's services, a small group held protests signs outside of the church in richmond. >> all lives matter in our city. >> a city where just last month the police chief picked up a sign and joined a black lives matters demonstration. police should not shoot people. people should not shoot police. we can resolve these issues because we need each other. >> i don't think there is a police officer in this nation that comes to work intentionally wanting to kill somebody. i think it is probably one of the worse things that any officer can experience. jackson says police are not the root of the problem. >> police are not why we have all of these problems. police are not why i can't get

obama and mr. benjamin netanyahu were not scheduled to meet. some say it is part of a ploy to meet after the prime minister's appearance. u.s. gas prices will drop below two dollars a gallon. last week aaa says they would go to that after january and we did find gas for 2.09. according to the car club the national average is 2.04 and that rises in california to 2.45 a gallon and in san francisco it is 2.47 and 2.48 in oakland and 2.46 in san francisco. the cheapest gas by the way is 1.77 in missouri. totally cannabis. in san jose. >> and the increase in childhood vaccinations in one county. also ahead.

for those looking to find out more of the medical marijuana business there was a seminar at the convention center. there were exhibits to peruse and the latest number from the state indicate that total sales of medical marijuana in california tops one billion dollars a year. a lot of the younger folks coming in excited and interested in coming up with inventions and new ways of growing that plan and of nuturing indoors and outdoors and there are a lot of folks here. for those that did not make it to the event the convention is slated to return to san francisco in august. new information about the

california supreme court's ruling to prohibit state judges from be long to go to boy scouts because they discriminate against gays. according to the los angeles times, more than one hundred california attorneys sent an e- mail objecting to the prohibition prior to the court's decision on friday. those attorneys argue that band created an unconstitutional test for public office and threatened the constitutional rights of california judges. judges, too, sent in arguments opposed to the band. the boy scouts of america started to allow openly gay boys to be scouts but does not allow gay adults to serve as leaders. the number of children exempt from vaccinations may be on the decline because of a new law. the percent of kindergartens exempt between 2002 and 2012 jumped from 3-point 7% to 7.8%. but a law went into effect last year requiring parents who don't want the child to be vaccinated to speak with a health care provider and by the end the year, the percent of

kindergartens dropped to below 7%. the number of children that died from flu complications have dropped but the latest death was in napa and four other deaths one in so knowna and two in san mateo and two in san francisco. the first case was in an adult living in southern california. a blizzard warning is in effect for new york and the region the forecast is to receive anywhere from 20 to 30- inches of snow. new york city mayor bill de blasio warned residents to be prepared. this literally could be one of the top two or three largest storms in the history of this city and we need to plan accordingly. the snow is expected to be heavy and come down fast. two or three inches an hour and visibility will be reduced. this latest storm follows

another storm that moves up the east coast leaving a coating from pennsylvania to new england. students in minneapolis are bringing the snowplow into the 21st century. students at woody college of technology are among the competitors and the autonomous contest. they use math and engineer skills to follow the rules that the machine must be hands free. bragging rights are on the line and these students are hoping that the machines they create will pave a new path for the future of snow removal. we can use some of that snow in the sierra and some rain here in the bay area. let's check in with our our meteorologist mark tamayo and not a chance for rain? >> there is a tiny chance but not what we need measuring a few hundredths of an inch. heather you lived in new york and when you hear two or three feet of snow, how does it make you feel? >> i would love it now. i didn't love it when i was

there. >> i bet. >> here is the radar perspective, as you can see on the live storm tracker 2 and this is the early stages of the development and this will be eventual track. those blizzard warnings in place for monday and tuesday and snowfall extreme. 20 to 30-inches and winds could be gusting to 65 miles per hour and here is the forecast. look at what happens tomorrow morning. not too much happening, the snowfall begins and look what happens, the things crank up and here is the projections, 28- inches of snowfall by ten p.m. tuesday. that is something to watch out for for monday and tuesday. back here in the bay area. we have mostly clear skies. and high clouds will be paying

a a visit. overnight lows, that is the cool part of the day and temperatures have been calling off over the past few days in the morning. 30s for napa and vallejo and 40s for san francisco and san jose. this was the weather pattern this week and all week we are talking about record warmths and warm temperatures out here but we cooled off quite a bit because the central valley fog is coupled with the offshore winds and transporting that air closer to the bay and especially out towards the delta and that was the case for today. now for tomorrow and tuesday, this system right now approaching southern california and this will generate clouds for tomorrow. and then by tuesday, we bring in the chance of a few showers in the bay area and not the rainfall we need but the chance of a few showers. here we are tomorrow morning, 9:00 and the clouds begin to move in the region especially for the southern half of the bay by monday afternoon and then look what happens early

tuesday morning. we have not been talking about this too much. the showers popping up in monterey bay and maybe scattered showers for the tuesday morning's commute and we should have partly cloudy skies by midweek and definitely more clouds in the monday forecast and with the southerly flow kicking in, we will raise the numbers out towards fairfield and antioch and so that warmth beginning to push in and not the 70s we were forecasting but a bump in the numbers. santa rosa 75 and san francisco 76 and pacifica 65 and more neighborhoods in the upper 60s for san jose and santa cruz topped up 83 degrees and one of the warmest temperatures, 83 in santa cruz and a look ahead for the five-day forecast, more clouds for monday and there is the stranger rain cloud on tuesday and that chance of a shower and then by wednesday and thursday, partly cloudy skies and then morning fog for friday and coming up at 5:45

and the forecast coming up where there may be rain clouds for the region. two feet of snow in new york city nothing to mess around with. the promoters of the san francisco boat show couldn't have asked for better weather. more than ten thousand people came to san francisco over the past four days to get an upclose look at all kinds of watercraft. more than 300 boats on display ranging from five hundred dollars paddle boats to 3 million-dollar yachts and despite the high price tag the watercraft can be assessable to everybody. the average income of a boater is less than one hundred thousand dollars a year and there's boats for everybody and it is a great sport for the family. the event offered kayaking and paddle boarding tutorials. angelina jolie pays a visit to iraq and what needs to be done to help refugees.

that you got this chaos in saudi arabia, we have really very few options on how we move forward to go after the bad guys. yemin's tribunal lands have served as a breeding and training ground for al qaeda and home to its most powerful branch. last year the u.s. carried out 23 drone strikes against terrorist targets with the hem of yemin security forces. yesterday the pentagon says things may be more difficult now but they will do what they need to. >> certainly a willing partner in yemin as in many places around the world makes missions like that much more effective. there is no question about it. we have also proven the ability to go after terrorists in various places unilaterally and we will retain that right. >> who are in control of yemin,

crews in san jose will shut down an intersection to prepare for the long-awaited bart expansion to the south bay. sierra road and lundy avenue will be closed to all traffic for the months. crews will construct a trendch system. you can see the construction equipment is out and signs like this have been posted this month alerting neighbors and businesses about the closure. in fact it is starting tonight at 7:00. neighbors tell me that traffic is not too bad and we will see if it will stay that way. it could be a bump in the road for commuters in this san jose intersection.

starting tonight, sierra and lundy will be closed for nine months to cars and pedestrian to build a trench. >> my concern is traffic and if it is gridlock it will be terrible for 8 or 9 months. james woodward says he has a flexible work schedule he is worried about the students at the nearby elementary school that walk this way. >> the school is three or four blocks, if they can't come down this way, they have to go a mile-and-a-half two miles. nearby businesses are concerned about possible congestion on surrounding streets. probably won't be good because won't get customers because the the traffic will be heavy. it is close the intersection for nine months or do more of a staged approach. there will be an adjustment for the neighborhood and

detours along slickenger avenue. bus line 77 will be rerouted to slickenger. >> we ask that people look for a different way to get through that area come monday. walking to the grocery store, this lady says adding minutes to a trip may be inconvenient at first and having batter will be worth it in the end. it is going to be convenient in the future. so maybe we just have to be patient and right now we will have wait and it will return to normal. crews here and signage and cones in preparation for the closure. the entire silicon valley project is a year ahead of schedule and they are confident that the work at this intersection will be done in nine months, likely not any sooner since this is one of the more complicated parts to this project. david. a pedestrian was struck and killed on the cal tran tracks

in palo alto. it happened just before one this afternoon near charleston. traffic was closed in both directions. cal tran set up a bridge for northbound and southbound passengers. a verdict is expected tomorrow for the teacher accused of molesting his students, joseph martin. last year a jury acquitted him on 21 counts but couldn't agree on dozens of charges. the current trial was whittled down to 24 felony molestation charges. martin has maintained his innocence. if convicted he could spend the rest of of the life in prison. eager to get a jump on the campaign. several hopefuls tested the water and tried out their campaign speeches. >> candidate after candidate spoke at the iowa summit in des moines. chris christie tied his message to midwest values. >> if the values i'm fighting for every day in new jersey and

warehouse of potential treasures. >> some friends have been trying to get me to come and i am excited and there is a lot to sift through. all proceeds benefit the oakland museum and the big sale takes place on march 7th and 8th. dog lovers are wrapping up the weekend of canine competition in cal city and one of the highlights of the canine dog show is a fast paced race. the dogs run over four jumps and hit a springboard that releases a tennis ball and runs back across the finish line. many dog owners return every year to learn what they can and to check out the new products and, of course, the pets. i live in belmont and i come probably every year for the last ten years. the weekend event included two, one day dog shows including 1500 dogs and there was a dog fashion show and a best puppy show. a lot of happy dogs. >> it looks like fun.

that fog keeping things cool for the locations in parts of the north bay as well and you can see the fog from earlier this morning and on the satellite clearing out and the offshore winds persistent and transporting the winds for the bay area. here is a look towards the bay bridge and haze and partly cloudy skies expected first thing tomorrow morning. here is a look at the current numbers in fairfield and with that persistent fog bank and san jose 62 and santa rosa 61 and fairfield is clear and that fog being backing off and the lingering presence of the cool air keeping it cool. records. look at these numbers richmond 66 degrees and 80s in santa cruz and monterey and salinas and the temperature in sought lake tahoe, 66 degrees for the official high. here in the bay we have the cool numbers towards vallejo

and oakland and san mateo and mountain view and morgan hill in the upper 60s. high clouds approaching southern california and the high clouds for the bay area. this was the case this weekend and this would warm us up and that's central valley fog with the offshore fog keeping the temperatures in the cool to the mild side. this system will be on the move for tomorrow and definitely more clouds by monday afternoon and the chance of a few scattered showers as we head to tuesday and that is the change we are tracking. tomorrow morning at 9:00, partly cloudy skies and the high clouds gradually sweep in the region from the south and then this is interesting change here. a few pop-up showers developing and tuesday morning and so possibly some wet roadways and tuesday morning commute and not the soaker but a few more scattered showers popping up in the forecast. at least for tomorrow. temperatures on the cool side, 30s and 40s and in the afternoon, mostly cloudy skies and the range 63 to 70. lots of 60s in the forecast map
