we are live in pacifica where several firefighters are battling a sings-alarm veg takes fire. a 250-mile stretch of the northeast preparing for a potentially historic storm. how it's affecting bay area travelers this morning. we're live in gilroy where a case of the measles pops up in aush place. we'll tell you who may have been exposed. and a busy san jose

intersection is closed for construction work on the south bay bart extension. the problems is may cause for you commuters and for nearby businesses. "mornings on 2" begins right now. we're following a fast- moving six-alarm fire in pacifica that's threatening 80 to 90 homes. coming up what firefighters are telling brian flores about this breaking situation. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." it's monday january 26th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. steve, you are following the weather out there in pacifica? >> here we are talking about a grass fire in january. come on. about 11 to 8 miles an hour. daly city, a couple of people said they can smell the smoke.

a few gusts to 15. it's out of the east-southeast. that's an offshore direction. this will give us a partly cloudy morning and mostly cloudy afternoon. this is our best and only hope for rain is right here coming up. i never thought i would say that, end of january hoping to get rain from the south. 30s, 40s and 50s. 30s for some. woodside is in there. menlo park. la honda, 57. the higherrervations are still on -- higher elevations are still on the mild warm side. still an easterly component for many. there will be rain in southern california. the question is can we get it up here? patchy fog. 50, 60s and 70s. here's sal with an update. i'm getting reports of an offshore breeze. that's not helping

firefighters, steve. thank you for that information. let's go to the maps. i want to show you where this grass fire is in pacifica. it's near fassler avenue and rockaway beach avenue. those streets. it's a little bit inland. but fassler avenue is closed basically as far down as highway 1. now the traffic on highway 1 has not been affected too much. highway 1 remains open. but rubbernecker valley would start to kick in here, especially as it starts becoming lighter. you want to avoid the area if at all possible. we'll have a live report from the scene coming up. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see traffic here is going to be moderately heavy. it's backed up from the macarthur maze. the metering lights are on. and traffic is -- has been heavy since 5:45 this morning. san mateo bridge all of a sudden, we have a big backup as you drive through. westbound 92, you can see some slow traffic heading out to the peninsula. when you get there, it's not that bad. a lot of people are on the road. it's moving again. it was stopped for a while.

7:03. back to the desk. back to the breaking news in pacifica. a brush fire has forced the evacuation of dozens of homes. the fire started before 4:00 this morning. it's burning near fassler avenue, not far from terra nova school. the school's witness says it's close for staff development day. brian flores just arrived on the scene. what's the situation there right now? >> reporter: hi, tori. that could be good news that the school is closed today depending upon how many evacuees are at the evacuate center in pacifica at the community center. i'm going to step aside. we're high atop a hill close to fassler avenue. down near the bottom is rockaway beach boulevard. that's where many of the fire crews are battling the fire. crews are battling this fire from on top of the hill and from the bottom. we've seen hoselines pouring water down below into the canyon. as you mentioned, this fire started roughly before 4:00 this morning. it continues to burn.

want to go to video that we shot earlier of this fire burning near pacifica. 80, 90 homes have been evacuated. many of those evacuated were told to go to the pacifica community center which is located at 540 crest street. we did speak to residents who say actually -- a lot of these people know each other. a couple of factors affecting firefighters this morning, talked about the wind. steve mentioned that. the latest we've heard 15-mile- an-hour gusts in the northwest direction. obviously embers played a role, we also are hearing -- we're also hearing from firefighters with some equipment as well. sounds like chainsaws down near the canyon. here is an update from fire officials about how the battle to fight the fire is going. >> the wind are blowing 10, 15

miles per hour. probably a 20-mile-an-hour gust. that's what's pushing the fire downhill as well as the moderate to heavy vegetation that we have in the canyon. we have fire crews surrounding the area, especially in the area down on rockaway. >> reporter: again 16 plus firefighters are here several agencies are here battling this fire from all over the bay area. this is a six-alarm fire. so far burning five to six acres this morning. as we take it back out here live this morning, this is a live look. we have seen fire crews down near the bottom as well. many evacuees have been told to go to a pacifica community center at 540 crest street. the smoke is blowing, i would guess in this direction. it's blowing towards

vegetation. firefighters have this area surrounded. but again, this fire continues to burn here in pacifica and we'll stay on top of this here on "mornings on 2." back to you. >> has there been any talk about the fact this might be suspicious? i mean, a grass fire in january is not your typical situation in the bay area? >> reporter: you are exactly right. that's what firefighters are saying. very dry conditions out there this morning. no official cause on how this fire started. that remains under investigation. the priority is to get the fire under control. but they are examining how this fire started but 80, 90 residents evacuated this morning. we'll give you more information when we get it. >> yeah, absolutely. thank you, brian. we'll check in for an update soon. 7:07. there's another measles warning. this time at a costco in gilroy. tara moriarty is live at a costco on camino arroyo where a

person shopped. >> reporter: we're also hearing about a walmart where a person shopped and we're working on getting the information for you. someone infected with measles shopped here last sunday and that was between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. if we take a look at the video now, we can show you the warning signs up. doctors obviously concerned. the health department says that exposure, it was possible on january 18th, again, between 4:00 and 6:00 at night and they want shoppers to be alert for symptoms now through february 8th. two more weeks. >> measles is very common around the world in europe and asia and other parts of the world. so it's just -- >> reporter: disneyland theme parks in anaheim are where most of the 68 cases stemmed from.

bay area doctors says protection has softened with more parents choosing not to get their children immunized. measle symptoms are usually a runny nose, cough, watery eyes and then a fever worsens and a rash starts on the face and friends. most people recover quickly but it can lead to pneumonia or even brain damage. if you think you are infected, you are asked to call the doctor's office first before going in so you don't explosion anybody waiting in the waiting room. back to you. >> thank you. three people being treated for serious injuries after a backyard deck railing suddenly collapsed in san francisco. it happened at a birthday party on vienna street in the excelsior district. firefighters say two men and a woman were leaning against the wood railing when it suddenly collapsed, and they fell 20 feet onto a concrete patio. >> more people falling down.

you know, it depend how you fall 20 feet, you can have serious injuries. but in this case, they don't appear to be life-threatening. >> investigators say the railing was rotting. the deck will be examined to see if it's up to code. a monster storm on the east coast could affect us in the bay area. many areas could get up to three feet of snow starting today. coming up in 15 minutes, we'll give a live report from reagan international airport. threats against three flights caused scary moments for passengers and is being investigated by the fbi. two flames involved were a jetblue from long beach and a delta regional skywest jet from phoenix. they had to be evacuated in

seattle. a flight from los angeles to orlando was diverted to dallas. investigator says they got what they say were credible threats about the flights. the passengers were all taken off the flights. the planes were checked back and put back into operation, specific details about threats or who may have sent them, they haven't been released as yet. 7:1. starting today, a san rafael park will be off limits for the public. boyd memorial park will be closed because of health and security issues. city leaders say the park has been the target of vandals and have been finding drug paraphernalia there. the city plan to the work out new enforcement strategies to keep the park safe for everyone. >> a big deal. 7:11. a south bay intersection, shut down. it will stay that day for most of the year. coming up in 20 minutes, what b.a.r.t. has to do with that task obstacle. but next, an update on

japan is working with jordan trying to save the life of a japanese hostage still held by the islamic state terror group. last week isis released a video showing two japanese hostages a and demanding a $200 million ransom. japan refused to pay and apparently isis killed one of the hostages over the weekend.

now isis is demanding a prisoner exchange to spare the life of the remaining hostage, 47-year-old journalist. isis is demanding the release of a woman currently jailed in jordan arrested nine years ago with an explosive vest that did not go off. she's facing the death penalty for her involvement in several bombings in 2005 that killed dozens of people in hotels in jordan. the website for malaysia airlines was hacked by a group claiming to support isis. users who logged onto the site saw these images, the plane with the text, 404, plane not found. the browser tab red, isis will prevail. there is an image with a lizard with a pipe along with the text, hacked by lizards squad. the domain system, they say, was compromised but insists the internal servers, which contain passenger information, are

secure. the airline's website seems to be back to normal now. reverend jesse jackson was here in the bay area speaking at a church in richmond that plays a strong role in ending gun violence. >> some of us who talk about back in the civil rights day. when did it end? >> he spoke at bethlehem missionary baptist church. he talked about the street protests about police use of force. reverend jackson said the police are not the root of the problem and blames poverty and a lack of opportunities. >> police should not shoot people. people should not shoot police. we can resolve these issues because we need each other. >> he will be visiting the peninsula and silicon valley later today. he's pushing for more job opportunities for women and minorities in technology companies. the federal government says

it has stopped openly sharing personal information from the obamacare website with private companies. last week, the obama administration came under fire after it was shown that healthcare.gov was giving out personal information, such as zip doedz, pregnancy status and whether they were smokers. the department now says it will no longer give out users' informs but it says there's -- information but it says there's no way of knowing what information is shared once it's stored in the government's computers. earlier this told but a 36- year-old girl named danielle. she said when she began the process, he she added her phone number but later decided she was not interested. soon after, she received dozens of health insurance sales calls from all over the country. covered california spokeswoman confirms the agency did share

7:23. the east coast is bracing for what could be a historic winter storm. thousands of flights have been canceled. snowfall could top more than

two feet in some places. doug luzader is at reagan international airport outside of washington, d.c. with the effect on travelers this morning. good morning, doug. >> reporter: tori, good morning. we're getting rain here, maybe a little bit of snow. weather conditions aren't too bad. you will look around and see people getting through this airport okay. we're watching flights take off. we're watching flights land but according to flightaware, this is the fifth worse airport in terms of cancellations and delays. operations are normal. the problem is other airport, especially toward the northeast, are already getting very backed up. for some part of the northeast, this will be snow on top of snow. many stores, there's been runs on essentials, although some may be stretching the depp initial. >> i'm shopping before the storm. >> reporter: what are you getting? >> chocolate. it's an essential. chips and popcorn and half and

half for coffee. >> reporter: but the signs are all there, be prepared. salt trucks, snowplows ready to go and a warning from bill deblasio. >> i want everybody to understand that we're facing most likely one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city. >> reporter: this is a storm that could span some 250 miles. across the most heavily traveled part of the country. >> i'm from california. it scares the begee zus out of me. >> reporter: many airplanes are preemptivety canceling flights. for all of this, there are still the naysayers who claim they've heard it before. are you prepared for the blizzards? >> no. i don't believe you guys. it's gonna bypass new york. >> reporter: maybe he's right.

we'll see. mayors in the northeast tend to make or break their reputation in terms of how far they respond to snowfalls-- of how they respond to snowfalls. >> thank you, doug, and we want to take you out to san francisco airport. dozens of flights have been canceled. oakland and san jose are not reporting cancelations but the situation could change. if you have a flight today, even if you are not heading to the east coast, you urged to check the status before heading to the airport. many airlines are waiving fees and rebooking people onto other flights. it helped drivers get around but law enforcement agencies say a popular gps app could actually put officers' lives in danger. >> reporter: we're live in pacifica where a six-alarm fire

a vegetation fire in pacifica has forced evacuation of dozens of homes. it started at 4:00 a.m. it's not far from the high school. 80, 90 people evacuated. brian flores is at the scene. it's a little lighter, easier to see. what's the situation there now? >> reporter: we're getting a better look at the fire that's been burning before 4:00 a.m. we're high atop the hill closer to fassler avenue. down below in the canyon area is rockaway ridge boulevard. as you can see, still the fire is continuing to burn here and it remains a six-alarm fire. i just spoke with a fire public information who says that fire crews have been able to get the upper hand on this fire and it looks like residents will be

able to return home about an hour from now. so that's good news for many of these residents who were not expected to see any type of fire this morning. want to go to video now if we have it of the fire when we arrived here on scene. it was burning pretty well here in pacifica this morning. again, in between fassler avenue and rockaway ridge boulevard. 80 to 90 homes were evacuated this morning. many of those residents were told to go to the pacifica community center this morning. it's unclear whether they were evacuated. we did speak with some residents who say they went to other friends' house, neighbors' houses close by just to keep an eye on the fire. still unclear how this fire started but here is an update from fire officials on how the firefight is going. >> the winds are blowing about 10, 15 miles per hour, probably about 20-mile-an-hour gusts. that's what's really pushing the fire downhill as well as the moderate to heavy vegetation in the canyon.

we have fire crews surrounding the area, especially in the area town on rockaway. >> reporter: and as we take it back out here live, the fire continues to burn here. i don't know if you can hear this back in the studio or those that are watching us on tv, but you do hear chainsaws going on near the canyon area. we understand hand crews will be here all day long trying to get the upper hand on this fire which fire crews say they have. at this point, residents being told to return in about an hour. as we take a look. you can see some fire lines near some townhomes near fassler avenue as they are trying to prevent the fire from spreading to those townhomes as you can see. but again, firefighters have some dhal challenges here fightth fire. you had not own lynn the steep terrain. you had the embers blowing but the wind as we mentioned. last time we heard was 15 miles per hour in the northwest direction. as we go back to the studio where are the winds blowing right no. brian, it doesn't look like

it's that bad of a breeze now. would you concur? >> reporter: i would concur with that, steve. it was blowing a lot harder when we arrived here. but definitely the winds have died down. i'm sure that's greatly affecting firefighters this morning in terms of getting the fire under control. >> thank you, brian. now, the fire can create its own breeze. some of the gusts have not been that bad at the fire. the strongest gusts had a report of 15, 20 miles per hour. and then around pacifica area. seen about 11, a couple of gusts around 11 at pacific cau. that's linda mar, daly city, our observe other there, and then spring valley which is south of pacifica. not that strong. sfo, though, still has gust 10 out of the north. it's either a north or the east. in january, we're talking about a fire. well, that's because it's been so warm on the coast over the weekend. i know half moon bay to pacifica we're in the 70s on saturday and then early sunday

it was in the os. monterey, santa cruz and salinas yesterday, richmond highs. south lake tahoe, 66. if you are in the fog, it's cold. we now focus our attention to the south. this will be our only hope for rain in january. i doubt we get in. we'll get cloud cover. that's about it. santa rosa is 35 degrees right now. rain is southern california, this is moving up late tonight into tuesday morning. santa cruz mountain, santa clara valley, the best. 50s and 60s on the temps. here's sal with an update on pacifica. the good news, the fire in pacifica has closed some of the local roads like fassler and rockaway bridge. it has not affected highway 1. with that said, highway 1 is slow. you can see some slow traffic which is somewhat typical.

it's usually kind of a robust commute getting out of pacifica heading up to daly city in san francisco. no doubt that some of the local roads are still clessed in the area. let's take a look at some of the live pictures, westbound, the bay bridge about a 30- minute delay. it seems very normal. there's waiting to do. once you get on the bridge, it looks good. if you are driving in san jose, northbound 280 through downtown san jose, i think we have a live picture of this. northbound 280 traffic is slow as you drive through getting up to highway 17. 101 and 85 are getting slow. some drivers may be surprised. speaking of the spay by a big road closure in san jose this morning. the busy intersection of lundy avenue and sierra road will be closed from now until september. so crews can work on the south bay bart extension. janine de la vega is there live with some hints on alternate routes. >> reporter: hi, sal we're here on sierra road near lundy.

there there is a big sign. there is a worker there showing people where to die tour -- detour. crews need to excavate, relocate utilities and build a trench that will be part of the future b.a.r.t. system in the neighborhood. it will take mine nine months. they say this is one of the more complicated intersections in the south bay. the vta has set up detours around flickenger and the bus line is ring reboughted to that street. it may prove to be inconvenient for people who live and work in the area. >> it's not too bad. i'm retire. but my daughter goes to high school. i'm gonna have to find a different route for her to take. that may be a inconvenience but she just has to take off

earlier. >> reporter: others worry about how it will affect nearby businesses and roads. the entire b.a.r.t. project is a year ahead of schedule and they are confident they can finish up in the nine months allotted. so if you use this area, be aware of this. again flickenger avenue is the big detour they are telling people to get through this. >> thank you. the driver accused in a deadly hit and run in oakland that kill and 84-year-old woman is due in court today. now, it happened friday morning. home security video shows the incident at 18th and east 15th street. police say 30-year-old ann park was driving the car that hit 84-

year-old an hoang. a verdict expected in the trial in a schoolteacher in from comcord accused of molesting students. it's the second trial for joseph martin. last year, a jury acquitted him on 21 counts but they couldn't agree on some of the other charges. in this current trial he faces 24 counts of molestation. the man accused of the gypsy hill killings that shocked the bay area in the 1970s he's due to make his first bay area court appearance today. 66-year-old rodney howlbauer is expected to enter a plea in redwood city. here is charged with murdering 17 and 18-year-old girls in 1976. prosecutors say the killings happened during the course of a rape and that dna links him to the crimes. the teenager a deaths are among six connected to a string of serial killings. now, howlbauer was extra

tighted from oregon last week. the secret service is investigating the discovery of a small drone found on the white house ground. this is video from the scene. the president and first lady are in india. the drone was a two-foot one that crashed. law enforcement agencies are put be pressure on google to remove a feature in the ways traffic app. some officers say the app could put their lives in danger. >> good morning. very popular app here. millions of people use ways to navigate. it has alerts about accidents

and road construction but police are most concerned about one particular feature on the app. it's a feature that allows users to upload information in realtime about the exact location of officers along roadways. the national sheriff's association is urging google to disable this police reporting feature which one sheriff called the police stalker. the law enforcement group believes this feature do put officers' rifs in danger letting someone who might hurt an officer know exactly where to find them. it's important to keep in mind. there are no known connections but those pressuring google here say it's really only a matter of time. google has declined to comment on the issue. but a spokesperson says the company thinks about safety and security and works safely with law enforcement agencies around the world. and the police reporting feature often alerts drivers to officers who could be on the lookout for speeders. and on ure facebook page, many

scheduled in boston. actually, in the next 15 minutes or so. then the players, coaches and staff will head directly to the airport. they are scheduled to leave before that big storm hits the northeast later today. hopefully they don't have travel problems. >> in is an interesting part of the story. an arizona montessori is renting rooms to super bowl fans. nuns say it's a natural fit. they are located just five miles from the university of phoenix stadium and they say hospitality is the mission of the sisters of saint benedict. the sisters have eight rooms too rent at $300 to night with a three-night minimum. they are offering their retreat house for $3500 for the week. but the sisters say they won't put in any special prayers for the team. >> i don't think god makes one team or the other win. i think whoever does the best job that day. >> there are some house rules, though, if you stay with the sisters. no smoking, no drinking, and no

it is. we just spotted this now. you can see the freeway is coming down to basically just two lanes right in that area. i -- here comes a fire truck just responding to the scene getting up to this -- it looks like an injury accident. westbound 80 before ashby and we saw it before they put it up on the chp. please give yourself extra time and we'll let you know, this looks like it's an injury accident here westbound east of ashby three lanes blocked. just popped up here. let's talk about the bay bridge toll plaza. that is backed up for a 25, 30- minute delay. no major issues. the traffic is going to be okay as you drive through. now, one of the things i want to mention is allen was a just able to focus -- was just able to focus the camera in. there's the east shore. there's the injury accident

blocking the lanes. chp is just arriving on the scene now. you can see the crews are there. just pulling up. three lanes are blocked. we'll keep on top of this breaking traffic news and let you know more about it as we continue. let's go to steve in the weather center. >> thank you, sal. there is a few things going on. none of it is spells rain. maybe tomorrow. we're pinning our hopes on moisture coming up from baja. moisture will continue to move in. cloud cover, i should say. there's fog towards danville, concord. it looks like things are come calming down regarding the wind for the fire. linda mar 11 miles an hour. daly spring, 11. spring valley 1,000 feet south of the fire, 9 miles an hour. sfo has 10 outside of the north. half moon bay has had 5 to 10 as well. there is a northerly or an easterly component. i talked about this a couple of weeks ago. i said we can get through january without any rain.

avenue. brian flores is at the scene. things are looking belter right now -- better right now? >> reporter: things are calmer than a couple of hours ago when we first saw you. definitely good news. we understand from fire officials that about 30 minutes from now, i would say, they will be allowed to return home. i'm gonna step aside, you can see the fire crews are looking for hot spots from this six- alarm fire. let's go to video when we first arrived on the scene of the fire raging pretty good. it burned about five, six acres this morning near fassler avenue here in pacifica. fire crews had some challenges batting this fire talking about the steep terrain. talking about the embers as well. also the winds which were measured to be around 15 miles per hour in the northwest direction, that played a role as well. but firefighters were able to get good containment, roughly about 45 minutes ago.

so that's good news for residents definitely worried this morning. >> our house is on the side of the hillside. so there is a lot of brush behind us. we couldn't actually see where the smoke was coming from but we could smell it very strong. >> once the firefighters arrived on scene, they determined it was a wildfire and started to attack it and god more resources but it was behind a home in the wildland area. >> reporter: fire crews say it's still being called a six- alarm fire. they are still here making sure there's not hot spots. you can see the fire crews on the hillside. some of those hand crews. fire officials say they will be here at -- at least until

information from the health department. they put up notices at the entrance as bell as well as the cashier letting people notice somebody had the measles and shopped at the costco, potentially exposing hundreds of people. the date was january 18th between 4:00 and 6:00 at night. it wants shoppers to be alert for symptoms for two more weeks. one dad overlooked the flier but said he's not too concerned. >> i'm immunized. my daughter is. not really. >> i don't even know what it is. >> i can show -- we'll pull it up on the internet and i will show you. >> reporter: disneyland theme parks in anaheim are where most of the 68 cases stemmed from. but bay area doctors say it's getting a foothill because protection has softened with parents choosing not to get

their children immunized. symptoms are a runny nose, cough, fever and then the fever worsens and a rash starts on the face. this can lead to pneumonia, even brain damage. if you go to the doctor's office, call first because you don't want to infect anybody in the waiting room. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. the biggest concern is for people not vaccinated against the measles but they are glad to see the number of kids who have not been vaccinated in one bay area county, it's dropping. in marin county, that number not vaccinated between 200 and 2012. it jumped by 4%. by the end of 2014, that number dropped back down by about 1%. the san francisco medical examiner confirms the body found floating in the bay area last november was that of software developer dan ha.

he left his apartment on brannon street on halloween night and never came back. his family said he did suffer disney spells but had no history of mental illness and did not think he would take his own life. a facebook says autopsy results will not be released for another four months. three people are being treated for very serious injuries in san francisco after a backyard decking railing suddenly collapsed. it happened at a birthday party on vienna street in the excelsior district. firefighters say two men hand a woman were leaning against the wood railing when it suddenly collapsed. they fell 20 feet down onto a concrete patio. >> more people falling down, you know, who -- it depends how you fall, you can have serious injuries that can cause death. at this point, they don't appear to be life-threatening. >> these victims broke some bones. they are being treated now. investigators say the railing

was rotting. now the deck will be examined this week to see if it is up to code. starting today, a san rafael park will be off limits to the public. boyd memorial park will be closed until late february for what the city calls health and security issues. city leaders say the park has been the target of vandals and they've been finding drug paraphernalia there. they will shut down the park to clean it up for a month. the city also plans to work out new enforcement strategies to keep the park safe for everybody. four bay area figure skaters will represent the united states at two world championships in the next two months. polina edmonds was named to the u.s. team after placing fourth at the u.s. championships this past weekend. now, fremont's karen chan finished third in that erent

the country already. the peak of the storm is supposed to hit tonight into tomorrow. but the weather warning goes into wednesday. it spans all the way from the coast of maine, upstate new york, down through philadelphia, maryland and washington, d.c. according to flightaware, more than 3500 flights scheduled for today and tomorrow have been scheduled. airports are warning that flights that aren't canceled will likely be severely delayed and we could see complete airport closures. we're in contact with our airports here in the bay area. taking a live look at sfo right now, this morning, sfo reports 39 departures, 22 arrivals, have been canceled to and from the philadelphia to j.f.k. area. oakland says all flights are fine so far this morning. but arrivals are expected to be delayed later today and san jose says flights on jetblue to and from new york are canceled for tonight. and then a side note of how the

and ashby. they removeled the crash. that's good news for traffic. we already saw the traffic time come down a little bit. it was 41 minutes. now it's 36 from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. but you still will be waiting a little bit. at least the goo news, the injuries were not major or life- threatening. they were -- they were moderate injuries but they didn't have to close the freeway for a long time. this is a look at the commute here at the toll plaza. it is backed up for a 25, 30- minute delay and no major plosh blems as you drive through. we've been looking at the peninsula and traffic on highway 101 down to san mateo. a little slow there. also slow in palo alto heading south but for the most part, it looks good. 280 is slow but i would still use 280 instead of 101 at this point. it's a little bit better off. 8:18. let's go to steve in the weather center. sal, thank you. had a nice tweet from george mccray in el cerrito. he said the first reported bee swarm of the year. one of my hives is going nuts.

i said is this the earliest ever? he said yes. we have fires in pacifica in january, we have bees already out in january. and we had 80s yesterday on the coast. yet if you were stuck in the nothing, oh, my gosh, it was cold. bleesk me -- believe me. i know. still there. not as much as the weekend but enough to go around. parts of the north bay and east bay no. i said go west. salinas, 82. richmond set a record high of 69 and south lake tahoe, you get above the fog, also had a record of 66 warm degrees. everything is now pointing unless we get rain tomorrow from a system from southern california and baja, it will be the first january ever in san francisco without any rain. there have been two decembers and one february but there's never been a january. usually we get a 4.5 inches.

and requesting more resources. it was behind a home in the wildland area. >> the wind gust was a major concern for many of the fire crews out here. we heard upwards up to 15 miles per hour from the northwest direction this morning. 60 firefighters in total responded to this fire battling it it from atop the hillside down to the canyon. you can see some smoke still present here this morning. but again, this fire under control. that's definitely good news. many of the people who were evacuated, many of them, about 40 were sent to an evacuation center here at the pacific community center. they are being told they can return home which is definitely good news. still no cause for this fire this morning. but that's currently still under investigation, again, as the fire is contained. back to you. >> that air quality out there

b.a.r.t. officials about the roads being closed. here's what the construction area looked like this morning pth a deep trench is being built for the b.a.r.t. system to travel through. crews need to excavate and relocate utilities. they say this is one of the more complicated intersections of the extense into the south bay -- extension into the south bay. parents dropping their kids off at the nearby elementary school seemed to take it in stride. most parents were more concerned about the delay they would experience driving to work. >> kind of a pain just because of the fact that i would rather just go down lundy here as opposed to finding alternative routes. it's a straight shot so i would have an easier way to get to work. that's a long time to be stuck trying to find alternative

law enforcement. the national sheriffs association is urging google which owns waze, who disable this feature which one sheriff called the police stalker. the law enforcement group believes this feature could put officers' lives in danger. important to point out, there are no known connection. those pressuring google here say it's only a matter of time. now, google has declined to comment on this issue although a spokesperson for waze says the company thinks deeply about safety and security and works closely with law enforcement agencies around the world. this has generated a healthy debate. many users, they don't buy the argument about officers' safety. this person wrote, if people want to get to cops, they won't need an app for that. i use waze and love it.

homeless. contra costa county is looking for volunteers to help count the homeless population. volunteers will work four- shower shifts interviewing at food facilities, soup kitchens. volunteers have to attend a two- hour straining session before starting. happening today, a verdict is expected in the trial of a concord schoolteacher accused of mowest willing his former students. this is the second trial of joseph martin. last year, a jury acquitted him on 21 counts but could not agree on some of the other charges in this current trial,er faces 24 counts of molestation charges. if convicted, martin could spend the rest of his life in prison. the man accused of the gypsy hill killings that shocked the bay area in the 1970s is set to make his first bay area court appearance today. 66-year-old rodney howbower is

a montessori in arizona is renting out rooms that go to the super bowl. nuns say it's a natural fit. they are just five miles from the university of phoenix stadium and they say hospitality, that's the mission of the sisters of saint benedict. the sisters have eight rooms. they went at $300 a night with a three-might min number. they are offering their retreat house for $3500 for the week. but they won't put in a special
