pittsburgh says 50. alamo at 39. a lot of low 40s here. black hawk and san ramon. danville is sleeping in. a little bit of fog in the valley. higher clouds to the north bay. over all there is not much going on. system in southern california might flirt with us on the weekend. mostly sunny morning fog. a few high clouds. mild temps. some areas will be held in check by that cloud cover but others upper 60s. here is sal. steve, good morning. we are doing okay out there. as as a matter of fact, traffic is just okay here at the toll plaza. it's backed up for a 20 minute delay. nothing out of the ordinary. no major problems getting into san francisco. also the morning commute is doing okay on the san mateo bridge heading out to the high- rise. traffic looks good on 101 as well when you get there. still early enough northbound 101 near 280 we had an earlier stalled week. the traffic will be a little slow in that area.

for the most part silicon valley commute does look good. let's go back to the desk. students at stanford university telling us there is both shock and relief on the campus a member of the school's highly rated swim team left school after he was arrested on charges of sexual assault. janine de la vega is out there now. you're at the school's swim center this morning. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we're here in front of the avery aquatic center. we just ran into master swimmers. they use the pool to get exercise in the mornings. many are surprised and saddened to hear the news. authorities say the late night attack happened on january 18th near student apartments and fraternity houses. 19-year-old freshman brock turner is accused of raping a woman he met at a party as she

lay intoxicated on the ground. he was tackled and held until campus police arrived. brock was arrested on five felony counts. >> it's very easy to take a stance when you hear about it at other schools. it's a strange experience trying to cope with your feelings of how you feel about your school and your classmates and having to hear news about these allegations. >> reporter: stanford has come under fire recently for its handling of campus sexual assaults. students held protests last spring. students have put a sexual assault program in place for incoming freshmen. spokeswoman says they taking the allegations against brock very seriously and conducting their own investigation. he is out on $150,000 bail scene he has bit drawn from stan -- and he has withdrawn from stanford university. >> janine de la vega down there at stanford, thank you. a woman is recovering after

and also tweeted about having a hard time trying to flag down a cab. now people were out there snapping photos and this video here this was posted on youtube. the yetty came a hit on social media. as of this morning we still don't know the name of the person in that costume. the company godaddy.com is pulling its super bowl commercial following backlash from animal rights groups. the commercial shows a puppy falling out of a truck and over coming all odds to find his way back home. but after running into hizzoner's arm after that long trip, he learned she has sold him top thanks to a website she created on godaddy.com. they say the commercial is heartless. go daddy decided to pull the ad saying it was meant to be funny but clearly missed the mark.

is gearing up for super bowl 50. alex savidge has a high profile every port to make sure the bay area charities benefit from the game. and alex tell us what you will be seeing -- what we will be seeing this sunday? >> we will be seeing a lot of recognizable faces from here in the bay area. local organizers they promise to give back in a big way with super bowl 50 in the bay area. and already there is an effort under way to raise money for local nonprofits which is why the host committee will be producing and airing a 60 second spot during the super bowl this upcoming weekend and feature a wide array of local celebrities. >> the spot that is being put together is being produced by

the san francisco bay area super bowl 508 host committee. it will feature a number of athletes and politicians. most in the bay area. the spot will promote the 50 fund which is the philanthropic arm which will be raising money for charities leading up to the big game at levi stadium in february of 2016. organizers have pledged to make super bowl 50 the most giving big game ever. if there you two. complete with explosions. even the preview feels like hollywood production. organizers have pledged to donate 25% of all the money raised for the super bowl. that means $10 million toward local charities. a 60 second spot during this years super bowl is certainly not cheap. this ad time was donated to the local host committee.

family star. now the driver's have been identified as 18-year-old gabriel esparza and 20-year-old manuel. san francisco city supervisors approved a $3 million settlement for the family of a former patient at san francisco general hospital. in september of 2013, lynn spalding was reported missing from her hospital room. 17 days later she was found dead in a hospital stairwell. the $3 million settlement will go to supporting her two adult children. >> i would say there are normal slow downs though. let's take a look at what we have. bay bridge for example is backed up for a 25-30 minute delay which is very typical for this time of the morning. people are trying to get into

clear skies. a little cooler on some because we lost another cloud cover. we dropped a good 15-20 degrees for some. we could sure use some rain but it's not happening. the last time we had above arch rainfall in san francisco we have to go back five years. it's been declining ever since and it's been declining to the point of zero. sure looks like san francisco will go through this january without any rain. that is the first time ever in their recordkeeping they've nod had a january. last january was the best ever. over all it's a little cooler here. 40s on these temps and 50. yesterday we had low 60s. 40s for morgan hill and gilroy. 54 scotts valley. a slight easterly breeze which might bring in a little bit of that fog. cloud cover to the south. southern california will keep an eye on that. see if anything can rotate up here. i doubt it.

we'll keep an eye on it. 60s on your temps today. sal so far so good. yeah we've had slow traffic that is for sure. the traffic is more of a normal variety than something this unusual. let's take a look at 101 in san francisco. looks good on northbound 101 and southbound 101. there are no problems at the bay bridge. however it is backed up for a 25 minute delay getting into san francisco. and if you are driving on 101 north and southbound in san jose, it looks good about the only slow traffic we see that is pretty severe is 237 near 880 getting into sunnyvale. and just a little bit of 101. still a good opportunity for you top jump ahead. let's go back to the desk. thank you, sal. time is 6:31. a freshman swimmer has dropped out of stanford after he was arrested on suspicious of raping an intoxicated and

unconscious woman. janine de la vega is at the stanford campus with what you have learned about this investigation. >> reporter: the university says it is holding its own investigation. we are here at the avery aquatic center because the young man accused was a member of the swim team. since his arrest, he has since dropped out of school. 19-year-old brock turner had been arrested for rape. officials say the assault took place on january 18th near student apartments and fraternity houses. turner raped a woman he met hat a party as she lay intoxicated, unconscious on the ground. we're told two stanford students on bikes saw the assault and chased after turner who ran. the woman is not a stanford student. she was take ton the hospital for evaluation. >> i don't think it should really be taken into account when talking about the actions

that he took because he took those not as part of the swim team. not as part of stanford but as an individual that makes very horrible life changing decisions. >> reporter: last spring stanford came under fire for handling of campus sexual assault and students held protests. officials have put a sexual assault program in place that all incoming freshman are required to do. a class that turner was supposed to take. a university spokeswoman says they are taking the allegations very seriously. he's out on $150000 bail. pam. >> all right, thank you janine. time is 6:30. san francisco police busy looking into whether two deadly shootings that happened within minutes of each other in the bay view neighborhood are related. the first one happened at 4:15 yesterday afternoon.

the second shooting occurred at 4:24 on bay shore at oak dale. less than two miles away. a woman drove up to the old clam house restaurant and told the workers there she was hurt and that a man in the passenger seat of her car was dead. that woman was taken to san francisco general hospital with life threatening injuries. >> she was bleeding and i told her to -- and she was like can you help me? and i told them to call the ambulance and they called and they came right away. >> the police shot spotter system alerted officers that 19 shots were fired. a woman who aped to be in -- awoman who appeared to be in her 30s was gunned down on the sidewalk. they are still trying to determine if these three were related.

montgomery street early yesterday morning. we were on the air recovering this. they held a guard at gunpoint. they got away with a couple gold nuggets and gold orr in a display days. they weigh 4-10-ounces and would be worth about $10,000 if it was melted down. >> i thought it was the truck driver at first until it veered in and crashed. now investigators want to know if the wells fargo heist is connected to recent string of smash and grab robberies in san francisco. back on january 19th, thieves backed a u-haul van into the -- they stole clothing and gear

before taking off. last november in union square someone plowed into two upscale boutiques and stole expensive handbags. health officials have confirmed the first flu death of the season. the health department says the person who died was younger than 65. the death occurred last weekend. the person did not have any known medical risk factors for flu complications. and health officials say the person had not received the flu vaccine. it's not often you see doctors walking a picket line. but that is what happened yesterday when 150 doctors walked off the job.

about 15-20 birds that were found in the san francisco bay covered in that mysterious goo are being released this morning. yesterday workers at the international bird rescue in fairfield prepared the birds to go back into the wild they are being released at 10:00 this morning. the group says it's treating 220 birds and they still don't know the source of that mysterious substance that coated the birds that killed at least 300. a man from gill roy facing charges for using a fake furniture store as a front for an illegal marijuana operation. 39-year-old win was arrested after a long investigation. deputies say his store was never open for business and the furniture was never for sale. however toward the back of the store there was a massive marijuana operation with more than 1,000 plants and almost $2 million worth of processed marijuana. uber is facing a new legal challenge about the safety of

its service. class action lawsuit against uber says uber misleads its users. the lawsuit says uber markets itself as a safe transportation option but it doesn't provide safety training or supervision of its drivers. naseberries safety record has been in the news after one of its drivers were charged with attacking a passenger with a hammer inside san francisco and another driver in india was accused of raping a passenger. this morning contra costa health services will be out counting and surveying the homeless population. the survey is required if they want funding for health services. contra costa also kicks off a new program called 0-2016. it's a natural effort to end homeless by the end of next year. last years count 3,800 people were identified as homeless in contra costa county. president obama's pick for attorney general will begin two

days of questioning in the u.s. senate. if confirmed, loretta lynch would be the first african american woman to hold that post. she would replace eric holder who announced his resignation last fall after six years. lynch is expected to win con fornation. he has received praise for her credential as u.s. attorney for the eastern district of new york. we are finding out more about the operator of that drone the one that crashed at the white house grounds. he had been drinking when he decided to test out his friend's new quad copper drone. when it crashed he was worried it entered the white house grounds. but he decided to go to bed. when he saw it on the news the next morning, he decided to call in and confess. >> that is a big ut oh.

welcome back to the morning news. time is 6:44. wild pigs running loose in san jose they have been damaging property and causing big problems for awhile. now the city is giving permanent approval to catch, shoot, and kill them. ktvu brian flores is live in san jose this morning. you can tell us more about this new law in san jose brian. >> yeah it's kind of an old new law, dave if you will. the law was set to expire next week but the city council last night voted 7-3 to keep the law permanent that would allow the trapping and shooting of wild pigs. it has been a nuance for several years now. the statue allows for licensed trappers to catch and shoot wild bores that have torn up the neighborhood. business lawns looking for food here until south san jose. it was a temporary law as we mentioned first passed back in november. because of continued complaints of the wild pigs from residents and business owners near coyote

creek, the council decided to make the statue permanent. officials say about 14 pigs have been caught and killed so far but residents continue to see them. in fact, we talked to one just minutes ago. you will hear from him coming up at 7:30. the law does not allow for any resident to get a gun to use on the pigs. the pigs must be caged first before getting caught. only people with a permit from the states department of fish and wildlife can do the killing. as we take you back out here live opponents say this method is inhumane. they are asking for other ways to get rid of the pigs. you can see the fencing along here in front of the apartment complex in south san jose, that is a result of the pigs going through the lawns for several years now. in fact, we talked to a resident that says they can'ted to come out especially at night. tear up the lawns and become a nuance. one of the council members one of the three who voted against the measure says she is concerned about gunshots being heard in the neighborhood. that is the reason why she voted on it.

it's been below. we will get 4.5 inches of rain. we haven't seen that since 2010 and it's been straight down hill all the way. it looks like zero precip will fall in san francisco unless rain gauge clicks over to .01 from drizzle or something. i don't think that will happen. over all it's much, much cooler. about 20 degrees for some. 40s and 50s instead of the 60s we had yesterday. most locations are in the 50s. holding in the 40s. haven't seen any 30s yet. fog out in the valley. maybe a little bit up in the north bay. plenty of moisture stream into the southwest of san diego and los angeles. another low will form here. spinning a lot of cloud cover. southern, central california. that will be our only hope for any rain. mostly sunny 60s on the temps.

gather around the world's best chicken and home-style sides for a dinner everyone will get excited about. kfc. welcome back to the morning news. time is 6:54. a couple in connecticut says having their baby was not in the forecast in the middle of that east coast blizzard. the whole place was under a travel ban when sarah browning started having contractions. her baby wasn't due for 2.5 weeks but when her water broke the couple knew they had to go to the hospital storm or no storm. >> it was a little bit of a frantic moment because we hadn't totally prepared as far as baggage and luggage. while she is doing that i was scraping a clear path to my car. >> got to have that bag packed.

it took them 45 minutes to drive to the hospital under white knuckle conditions where their baby their son was born. the couple joked that little graham there just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. a dramatic escape in pennsylvania caught on camera. a woman tried to steal a police car. pulling over a car, handcuffing a woman there, putting her in the back of the patrol car. as they were waiting for back up to show up they got in the front seat and drove off. a camera shows them speeding and weaving through traffic. eventually they pulled over and tried to run away. she was captured and arrested and now she is facing several charges including aggravated assault and endangering people. the city of san francisco has a treasure-trove that most people has never seen. it was 90,000 square feet of
