highway last year. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. brian flores is in the newsroom with the new lead napa county sheriff's officials have now. good afternoon, brian. >> good afternoon. the sheriff's department released new surveillance video from a restaurant showing the victim and two persons of interest. the department posted it on youtube. it's the first time they've ever done something like that. they hope more people see it and provide more information. now, here is the video of maria cruz behar with two men back on november 15th of last year. this was taken at the restaurant tweeent 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. that night. at one point in the video, you see a man holding what may have been her shopping back and then in another clip one of the men holding her hand. authorities hope somebody knows who these men are. bothed describe as latino between 25 to 40 years old. the next day, her body was found lying on highway 29. the result, according to authorities, of being run over.

>> she was in the rohnert park santa rosa area as late as 12:30 in the morning the night she -- osh the morning she die -- or the morning she died. >> i want to go to a map of a time line we're tracing her steps that day. she went shopping at santa rosa at 2:00 p.m. at 6:00 p.m., she visited quincey's bar and grill in rohnert park and then at 8:00 p.m. that's when she met the two men at the restaurant and the trio went to the casa delmar restaurant at 11:00. her body was found on state route 29 just before 5:00 a.m. last november. police say she met the men for the first time at the restaurant. the video is posted on our website, ktvu.com. er er tofully -- tori? the mother of three gunned down in front of her children has been identified as maria sosa. neighbors say she was an

innocentby stadder in the gunfire that erupted around 4:15 yesterday afternoon. witnesses tell ktvu there were two cars engaged in a rolling gun battle. >> got caught in the crossfire of other people's stupidity and not knowing what was coming for her, whatsoever. and it's just little sad. her friends and family were here and for them to have to see that is just horrific. >> nine minutes after sosa was killed two more shooting victims turned up two miles away. the second shooting victim showed up at the old clamhouse on bayshore boulevard. a woman pulled up in a black suv. she was bleeding and said a man was shot to death inside her car. that man is 38-year-old dante glen of san francisco. so far no arrests have been made. in the wake of such increased gun violence in san francisco, the city may soon have a gun violence prevention task force, an ordinance to establish it was approved

unanimously last night by the board of supervisors. the task force will be comprised of department heads, school officials and community members who have lost loved ones to gun violence. among its responsibility, the task force will analyze and monitor police response times and the allocation of resources. police say a confrontation over loud music turned violent in oakland leaving a man hospitalized with serious injuries. investigators say a couple living in an apartment on 90th avenue asked a 65-year-old neighbor to turn down his music last night. when the neighbor refused, the woman showed up with a baseball bat and the neighbor with a wooden board. the woman hit the man in the head with the bat at least twice, leaving him critically injured. the couple, both aged 26, were taken into custody. a stanford university student has dropped out of school after being arrested for allegedly rain raping a woman on campus. the news has sent shock waves throughout the campus. janine de la vega tells us what

she's learned about the case and how the university is responding. >> reporter: the men's swim team was not the same at practice at the avery aquatic center. a star member of the team, 19- year-old brock turner, withdraw from the university after news surfaced he was arrested for raping a woman on campus. >> everyone got along with him very well. he was very likable from what i heard. >> reporter: the late-night attack took place january 18th in lomita court near apartments and fra the houses. they say turner raped a woman he met at a party as she lie unconscious intox cablessed on the ground. we're told two stanford students saw it and ran after him. he was held until police arrived. the woman was not a student and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. >> i think people with like oh, another one. shouldn't we have done something by now? >> reporter: last year stanford came under fire for the way it handled sexual assaults.

officials have put a program in place on that topic that all incoming freshmen are required to take. >> the university as a whole i don't feel has taken a strong enough sense. i don't think an e-mail that we condemn rape is effective or sensitive. >> reporter: university officials say they didn't put out an alert when the alleged incident happened because there was no longer a threat and privacy laws prevented them from doing so. now that turner has been arrested, a spokesperson said there put out a letter and are praising students to helped praise turner. a spokesperson said they are taking these allegations very safely and are conducting their own investigation. turner no longer permitted on campus. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. one of the drivers accused of participating in a street race in san jose that claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman is due in court today. 23-year-old manuel avalos is expected to be arraigned this afternoon. investigators say he was racing

18-year-old gabriel eperza on monday. the two were booked on vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving charges. a memorial for the woman is growing at the crash site on yerba buena road. her siblings say she was the star of their family. >> she's a really good person. she didn't deserve this. she just went out for a jog like every other day. >> police say the two drivers were going 70 miles an hour in a 40-mile-an-hour zone when they lost control and crashed there hitting pablo who was jogging by at the time. santa clara county health officials have confirmed the first flu deaths of the season there. the health department says the person who died was younger than 65. the death occurred last weekend. the person did not have any known medical risk factors for flu complications. officials also say the person had not received a vaccine. union city police are looking for a man with dementia

who disappeared last night. 87-year-old muhammed khan was last seen walking on gilroy court about 5:30 p.m. he has disappeared before and has been known to walk long distances. he's 5'4", weighs 155 pounds, he was last seen wearing traditional blue clothing. wild pigs continue to cause big problems in san jose because of that, the city now has a permanent law allowing wild pigs to be caught, shot and killed. a temporary law was passed in november but residents and businesses near coyote creek and the almaden valley have continued to complain about damage caused by pigs. officials say about 14 have been and killed but residents say they still see wild pigs, especially at night. >> that's pretty bad. they come in and they -- they come around in the evening and

happening now, more than 20 birds found in san francisco bay covered in a mysterious goo are now back in the wild. they were released from their cages and capts about two hours ago -- crates about two hours argue. workers at international bird rescue in fairfield have been cleaning and nursing the birds back to health. the group is still treating about 220 birds. fish and wildlife officials don't know the source of the mysterious substance that coated the birds killing least 300. b.a.r.t. is getting ready to ban e- cigarettes on its trays.

the board voted to bar the use of e-cigarettes on trains and in stations. the american lung association says it pushed for b.a.r.t. to make this change based on rider complaints. that group says most cities where b.a.r.t. has stations already ban the public use of vapor cigarettes. a vinal vote is set for two weeks from tomorrow. state spending reductions are being given the most credit for california's recovery from the recession. that's according to a new financial report from the credit rating service standard & poor's. it says the state has recovered from the recession largely by controlling expenses. that's contrary to the popular belief that higher taxes and an improving economy lifted the state out of its deficit. the service has upgraded the state's rating twice since 2013 due to the improving standing. the super bowl will not be here in the bay area for another year but organizers are hoping to grab some april tension -- attention this coming sunday. >> 50 fund will take you on an

[laughter] >> well, i think it's unfortunate that, you know, someone has to be forced to do

the interview. in he really doesn't want to. i think i sit on the side of if you don't like doing interviews, you shouldn't be forced to do them. that's my response to it. i'm not surprised. i just don't like the fact that he feels he's been forced to do it and i kind of side with him on that. >> okay. and he made it very clear. and that's really interesting to hear your take as a former player. i also want to just talk about -- the nfl came under fire for the handling of some domestic violence cases involving players. do you think the league has responded appropriately with new ads and new rules in place? >> i would say that they are responding appropriately. you know, it's -- it's not over. this is an ongoing issue and will continue to be an iron that's gonna go on and i'm very happy, very proud of the way they have responded, absolutely. >> good. all right. so another big cause for the nfl is fighting prostate cancer. it affects one in seven men and

you, in fact, are one of them. so obviously you are doing well which is good. but -- what is the nfl doing to help raise awareness about this? >> well, one, we're getting out in the communities and we're educating men. we've established a website for guys to, you know -- we can point people to the website, not just people that i know or -- but people that i meet? general. i get out quite a bit and talk to folks and hospitals and make myself available. and we use a lot of our hall of famers who want to help with the cause as well. >> you found out about your diagnosis because of an nfl get- together. is that correct? >> well, it was actually, a screening. it was at the pro football hall of game. it's where there launch the campaign. i went down as an employee of the nfl to try to help the guys

take the simple blood tests. i ended up taking -- taking the test myself. because i took the test, the doctor called me in to give me the results of the test, that's the first time anyone had ever talked to me about prostate, prostate health, prostate cancer. when i heard the statistics -- at that time it was one in six will be diagnosed in their lifetime. i thought that seems like a lot of men. i asked about how many women are diagnosed with breast cancer. he said one and eight. so i said why is that i know more about breast cancer and know nothing about prostate cancer and there was no explain explanation. and i found out that i had prostate cancer and then later they asked if i would be a spokesperson and i said absolutely because i thought it

was terrible men knew too little. it's run in families. i've talked to guys where the dad had it and has passed away and the sons know they should be getting screened or having a blood test every three months to monitor their psa levels. when you start talking to them, they still don't know where the prostate gland is. men need to start talking about it and normalize our discussion about their health. know your stats.org is the weeks. you played for the patriots and the l.a. raiders doe i don't need to ask -- so i don't need to ask who you are rooting for. joining us. we appreciate it. >> thank you. all right. and michael haynes very nice to talk to him. turning to the weather and our midweek forecast. mark joins us from the weather center. mark, more of mostly sunny and mild. >> more of the same. >> a lot of sunshine. we have some 60s showing up on the mas. fairly mid afternoon. no big changes. no major weather headlines to talk about. this is san jose, a lot of sunshine. temperature currently 61 degrees in san jose at the airport. on the satellite, you can see this. clouds up to the north. cloud to the south and even some rain in those two areas of the state but for us, we continue to have the dry weather pattern and the fairly calm weather pattern with no major storms to talk about. we should be talking about significant rainfall but that's not the case. here's a look at the some of the current numbers showing you 60s for santa rosa and fairfield. san francisco downnoun, 61 and there is that 61 showing up in

san jose. this will be most likely unless we get a phantom storm, the lowest january rainfall total for san francisco. here we go. the lowest, the year is out there with 2013 only .49. 2014 we thought last year was bad. .06 no. at drop of rain for san francisco. it looks like that will be the case as we wrap up january 2015. you can see the cloud and rainfall forecast models just a few clouds out there tomorrow morning. i think we'll have patchy fog for your thursday morning but then into the afternoon hours, partly cloudy skies. more sunshine for today. patchy fog as we talked about, regroups overnight. here is the bigger perspective. we m a weak produce a few -- we had a weak system produce a few sprinkles. there is a system down in southern california that will generate rainfall for parts of the state. but not for us. for us, it looks like high pressure builds back in. a familiar weather pattern. we've been talking about this for quite sometime.

in the last hour, the federal reserve announced it will be patient in raising rates from record lows and said the u.s. economy is on track despite turmoil and other markets around the world but low inflation is below the target because of a plunge and a steadily strengthing dollar. this could affect when the rate is raised from zero.

taking a look at how the markets are responding. the dow is down 72. the nasdaq is down 10 and the s&p is down 13. now, among the storks we're baching, yahoo's! stock was up. it's now down about 1%. that's after yahoo's! ceo announced the company will spin off its shares of alibaba. the share is worth $40 billion. and apple's stock that's currently up about 7%. the cupertino-based company reported the most profitable quarter of any company ever, $18 billion from the last three months of 2014. record sales of i'm phones and other gadgets boosted the stash of cash. it's now sitting on $178 billion in cash and investments. that's enough money to give $556 to every american. tonight we find out who is
