denying additional information beyond the fact that the a patient was showing systems consistent with ebola was admitted this morning. >> reporter: after a.m. in sacramento -- 9:00 a.m. in sacramento. closed off after a patient arrived at the er showing symptoms quint ebola. that patient was then taken to uc davis medical center. one of four hospitalled designated to treat ebola patient -- hospitals designated to treat ebola patients. >> they announced everybody had to stay back. and people left. but the rest of us we just stayed there. >> reporter: in an e-mail to staff he writes we assure you this patient's presence poses no threat to you.

this morning you can see the ambulance that transported the patient to uc davis medical center with police standing guard and a medic being decontaminated and workers tending to equipment that was wrapped in plastic. she has been in contact with nurses at uc davis medical center about safety procedures which were lacking at many california hospitals during the height of the ebola outbreak last year. >> our initial feed back is that they have all of the required personnel protective equipment that is required by cal-osha and they had the training interactive practice with putting on and taking off the equipment. >> reporter: she is also in contact with nurses over at mercy hospital and says this is a example of why all hospitals

must be prepared because a person with symptoms of ebola could show up at any hospital. as for this case, uc davis medical center indicated it could be tomorrow before they -- it could be tomorrow before they make a statement. they said the patient is in good condition. >> did he know anything else about the patient, where the patient has been and is there concern this patient may have infected other people before being brought to the hospital? >> reporter: we have very little information. almost no information about this patient. we don't know if this patient is a man, woman. presumably it is an adult. we know nothing about name, age, where the patient has been or when the patient was in africa. and we tried to ask uc davis medical center about their procedures, their safety procedures since they are giving assurances the patient

and staff are not at risk but they decreed that information -- declined that information. >> ken pritchett live in san francisco. thank you. a neighborhood is on alert tonight looking out for a sexual predator. earlier this week the man attacked a 10-year-old boy. ktvu's john sasaki is in oakland where police are putting out a good description of the attacker. john? >> reporter: this is a shocking crime that has police trying to find the man before he strikes again. he didn't just attack the boy, he lured him into a trap. the boy was walking home from school 3:00 p.m. on tuesday afternoon. police wouldn't say what the man did but he lured the boy to an area where he sexually assaulted him. it is a mixed use area. police have warned schools in the area to be on the look out.

on the former president of the california public utilities commission. they took computers, telephones and documents. he is imprecated in making illegal deals benefiting pg&e. last year pg&e released e-mails indicated he negotiated with officials to name a judge they preferred in a case. they complained about the activities long before the san bruno explosion. the city of san bruno sued the p.u.c. >> that blew the lid off the back room deals that were goes on for years. the problem here is that this isn't just morally offensive. >> he never commented on the e- mails. senate republicans on capitol hill today passed a bill authorizing the keystone xl pipeline despite the threat

of a veto from president obama. the bill authorizes construction of the 1200-mile long pipeline to carry oil from canada to the gulf coast. republicans say the pipeline would pump billions into the economy and create jobs. but critics say it would be bad for climate change and it would only create 40 permanent jobs. a case of vandalism to a public building in the bay area and why red tape is holding back an offer to fix it up at no cost. ktvu's eric rasmussen is here to explain why some blame mismanagement for letting this problem go from bad to worse. the red wood center. now a former patient offered to

pay to reopen the center with his own money but he can't get anybody to take his money. he says it turned his life around 20 years ago. since it shut down the building that is owned by the san francisco public utilities commission had been gutted by copper thieves. he offered to spend $2 million to fix the damage and reopen the center but the sf p.u.c. turned him down. >> because it was mismanaged and because of the theft they didn't want this to come to light. they wanted me to go away. >> reporter: they say they can't hand over operations of a building to someone. but after we started asking questions they told me all options are still on the table. 2 investigates went through several years of e-mails and reports about the center to

[ speaking foreign language ] >> reporter: he was a good roommate. he is heartbroken because he said the victim was found by the window. the man who died work nights and that may help explain why he didn't run from the burning building. she says the victim needed to go to sleep so would wear head

phones. when people knocked that door he couldn't hear anything. some of those who made it out had to take dramatic steps. he heard noises outside his apartment and called 911. >> as far as i told them my address, he said there is a fire. get out now. >> reporter: he found the hallway filled with smoke. his only option, gather up his dog and use the fire escape. >> i grabbed my dog. went down the escalators, the ladders, i mean, and from there i had to jump. >> reporter: san francisco police were there to catch him. he says he is still in mourning. he wasn't able to save his rabbit too. >> 7:30. >> the building was home to mission local, a newspaper. workers say computers, cameras and files were soaked over night. they waited today outside for a chance to salvage what they can. >> that is the least of the

about the safety inside. >> reporter: residents waited to be allowed into collect a few items this afternoon. many shared stories of rushing home to find the third floor in flames. >> we got a call from our landlord that our place is on fire. asking if anybody was inside. >> one person died. six sent to the hospital and 54 people displaced. 12 people had to be rescued. they did a check of the building in 2010 and found fire alarms weren't working. those problems were fixed by november of that year with another inspection due by the end of 2015 but today the fire chief said some of the equipment here was not working
