let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. no major problems. also the morning commute looks okay on 880 heading up north as you drive past the coliseum. that traffic continues to look good. let's take a look at the south bay maps. northbound to 101 a little bit slow as you drive up to the 880 interchange as you can see the red on the map there. let's go back to the desk. topping our news oakland police are asking parents to be on alert after a boy was sexually assaulted after he walked home from school. alex savidge is joining us now to explain what happened and who police are look for. >> reporter: good morning, to you. yes, a very disturbing crime here. oakland police say they are deeply concerned there may be someone out there now targeting children on the streets. in this particular case we are talking about, it was earlier this week. a ten-year-old boy says a man sexually assaulted him during his walk home from school in this oakland east oakland neighborhood. the young victim told police

the attacker lured him off the street on 98th avenue. close to international boulevard. that is when the boy was sexually assaulted. this happened around 3:00 in the afternoon this past tuesday. investigators went out and put an alert out. they are also reviewing surveillance video. and then in the meantime oakland police say they are concerned other children could be at risk here with this person still on the loose. they are encouraging parents to talk to their kids about stranger danger. >> talk about what children can do. stranger is danger.

bushy salt and pepper beard that is quite distinctive. at the time of the attack he was wearing a brown leather jacket and black pants. also new this morning wrapper knight has been arrested for murder until connection with a deadly hit and run. this is video of knight and his attorney walk into police station early this morning. nigh was visiting a movie set when he got into an argument with to men.

>> knight is the cofounder of death row records which features wrappers such as dr. trey, snoop dog, and ice cube. he is being held on $2 million bail. >> it housed 18 apartments and several businesses including a popeyes restaurant. the cause of the fire is still not known. but there are reports fire alarms never went off and that the buildings fire escape ladders were either padlocked or just did not work properly. >> i grabbed my dog, went down the escalator the ladders i mean. and from there i had to jump.

>> one person died trying to escape that burning building. the local church his friends shared photos and stories about him. they say he was a single man in his late 30s. he had come to the u.s. from el salvador. next door to the building is a brand new condo complex. firefighters actually went into that new building and used it hoses to fight the fire. last night there was a celebration for the team that built the condos and part of the celebration they decided to raise money for the fire victims. >> teamed up with the san francisco foundation and have raised $18,500 so far. we will see how much more we can raise. >> there is a go fund me page to help the victims. at this time yesterday it was

about $200. this morning it's woman $40,000. terrifying moments for a woman in alameda as her house caught fire. brian flores is joining us from the home. brian. >> good morning. . you can see the heavy fire and smoke damage. ktvu viewer not only shot the video you're about to see but says he had to rescue a couple people including the woman that was inside the town home. they didn't even know the fire was burning. this was alameda firefighters putting water on to the fire that began roughly before 8:45 last night. this is a two story town home where the fire started and fire officials say it started somehow in the downstairs living room. but the fire spread upstairs also. alameda firefighters were able

to quickly put out the fire keeping it from spreading to nearby units. according to the viewer who took the video, he had to pull the woman out of the town home. he also notified another neighbor that the fire was burning. luckily there were no major injuries. the fire department says only minor injuries to the woman living here. back out here live you can see the heavy damage here again to the wall there. outside. also a window broken as well. fire officials say it started in the downstairs but we still don't know an exact cause. we tried to contact the viewer that shot the video. we contacted him last night. we hope to hear from him during our 6:45 hour. hear from him to tell the story he had to say about this fire that burned last night. >> that will be an incredible story to hear. thank you. 6:09 is the time. a gunman is on the loose after a deadly shooting in oakland. it happened outside a liquor store on harris son street near pearl street in the adams' point neighborhood. the oakland tribune reports the unidentified shooting victim

was found outside the liquor store. there are a few other details but the search for the shooter continues. our time is 6:09. health officials in marin county they have confirmed the first two cases of the measles now there are 12 cases over all in the bay area. san mateo and santa clara county each have two cases. alameda county has the highest number of confirmed cases in the bay area. they have six. now the centers for disease control and prevention says the measles outbreak that started in disney land probably came from over seas. the virus has now infected 94 people in eight states. 67 can clearly be connected to disney land. cdc says either a foreign tourist or american traveling overseas was infected and then spread the disease to others who came to visit disney land. >> kind of scary. a bold robbery in beck lay caught on tape. coming up at 6:30 what police say the victim did just moments

welcome back to the morning news. new information in the case with that former stanford swimmer accused of raping an intoxicated unconscious woman on campus. 19-year-old brock turner denies the allegations. a sheriffs department report says he met the woman two weeks ago at a frat party. turner claims the two of them kissed but he denies raping her. the woman who is not a stanford student says she blacked out after drinking heavily. turner is facing five felony counts of sexual assault. police in oregon say a well timed sales car likely saved a woman's life. it is an unbelievable story. they say a 33-year-old woman was being beaten and strangled when her phone which was in her back pocket accidentally

answered a telemarketing call. >> it was very, very frightening. the young lady was helpless. you could hear the blows as if he was hitting a punching bag and she was terrified. >> workers at the sales company in las vegas quickly tracked down the woman's address and contacted oregon police more than 900 miles away. deputies arrived and arrested the woman's exboyfriend. they found him holding her as she gasped for air. time is 6:15. dozens of investors and developers got a very special tour boat with the new mayor as their tour guide. more than 60 people joined libby schaaf on this bus tour and sights of oakland that are becoming hubs for new housing and businesses. most of those on the tour were from san francisco. mayor schaaf says oakland has

we may get new information today about what could be california's first case of ebola. health officials say someone who showed up at a sacramento hospital yesterday meets the government's guidelines for being tested to ebola. now the patient originally walked into the er at mercy general hospital a few miles away but was taken to uc medical davis center which is one of the four hospitals

designated in california to treat ebola patients. the sierra snow pack is still near historic lows. the department of water resources measures the water content of the snow yesterday. they were the echo summit above lake tahoe. it's just 12% of average. the entire sierra slightly better at 25%. but without a lot of snowfall in february or march, water officials say the drought may get even worse. the sierra snow pack delivers one-third of the water we need in california for residents, for agricultural, and for industry. if you want to find a place to park your car in boston, you better bring a snow shovel. that historic blizzard they had earlier this week left 2-3 feet of snow. in boston a lot of it has been dumped where people normally park their cars. as you might imagine that makes it very hard for people to get around the city.

and when it comes to shoveling snow, everybody has to pitch in including secretary of state john kerry. he got a fine. $50. he didn't clear the snow off his sidewalks in boston. pam, he was in saudi arabia during the blizzard. the spokesman says don't worry the sidewalk has been shoveled now and secretary kerry will pay the fine. >> it looks like he has a good excuse. the east coast winter storm is bringing out the daredevil. will is the first man to ever climb up niagara falls. he scaled up 147 feet yesterday. of course it took him an hour to get to the. the day before the claim he climbed down the frozen water fall to clear away from loose ice. and i want to show you this incredible video. this is from the grand canyon

and time lapse from the national park service shows just a sea of fog. the rare phenomenon is called a total cloud inversion. when moist cold air gets trapped in the canyon under a layer of warm air. typically it happens just once every few years but yesterday's event is the second time it has happened in the last six weeks. search continues for the person who left human body parts inside a suitcase on the san francisco street. the potential clues police are focusing on but why it may not be much of a help. >> a growing number of bart riders say they are dissatisfied with agencies service but what bart is trying to do to change that. >> we're still looking at a decent commute. we've had some improvement in some areas but also slow on others like the bay bridge. this is a look at the golden gate bridge where traffic is light. >> the grand canyons had snow and rain in the last six weeks

predator behind this disturbing crime. let me use our map and give you a sense of where it happened. it was near 98th avenue and international boulevard. right here on 98th between c and d streets. that is where police are investigating. they believe a ten-year-old boy was in that area walking home from school earlier this week. when a man lured him off the street and attacked him. the assault was 3:00 this afternoon. investigators have gone ahead and alerted schools in that area. police are warning parents in the neighborhood to talk with their kids urging them to be cautious when it comes to dealing with strangers. investigators also say that there are a lot of surveillance cameras in that area and that is where the public may be able to help out. >> we are also asking residents and personal businesses in the area to check their surveillance cameras. they may have captured the suspect on the video.

we have investigators that are following up any leads. >> here's a description of the man police are looking for. he's described as hispanic in his 40s. about 5'7" with a slim build. he has short salt and pepper hair and also has what is being described as a distinctive bushy salt and pepper beard. at the time of the attack he was wearing a brown leather jacket and black pants. we are told investigate evers toes are sitting down with this young victim trying to come up with a sketch. obviously if you know anything call oakland police. >> thank you. talk to you later. police in berkeley searching for the person who attacked an 83-year-old man and stole his iphone. you've got to see this. they released this surveillance video of this december 26th attack. the man had just bought the iphone at the apple store. a man in a red hoody walks up totaled herly victim, rips the

phone out of his hand and hurt him in the process. here's another look at that suspect. police say he got away in a silver audi with paper license plates. police describing the man as african american in his 30s. he was wearing light blue jeans and a red zip up gap hooded sweatshirt. on wednesday afternoon police found the suitcase at 11th and market street. other body parts were found nearby. now people who live and work in the area are horrified by the discovery. one man says he was working nearby when police found the body part in the dumpster. >> i talked to the cop. i was like what did you see in there? what did you find in there? he goes you don't want to know. >> police are not releasing the picture to the media. but people who have seen it say it is blurry and it shows someone from behind wearing a

hoody. they say it's even hard to tell if it's a man or woman. right now police are showing it to people who they think might be able to recognize that person. city college of san francisco is closing a second campus now because of concerns it may not withstand an earthquake. earlier this morning administer tours moved classes out of the campus to the golf street location. now the golf street campus is closing because of the same safety concerns. the latest reshuffling it's upsetting both students and teachers. they are upset about the sudden relocation from the civic center campus just before the first day of classes. school administrators say they will allow students to take classes at other campuses. bart riders are sounding off on their list of complaints about riding the train and we are hearing from bart about how to make things better. paul, you are probably getting

an earful. >> that is correct. ly tell you a growing number of bart riders are dissatisfied with the service. 26% of bart riders say they are unhappy with it. that is 10% more than two years ago. some of the problems they say is over crowding and the smell. >> if you try to get here at 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, it's crazy. if you try to leave at 4:30 or 5:00 in the afternoon it's nuts. it's extremely crowded. if you get in the wrong car it's too hot. >> reporter: bart is working on all of those issues with a new process it's calling turn back trips. during commute hours the system is making more trips back and forth on shorter routes. a car will go from the embarcadero to concord and turn around instead of going all the way to the end of the line. bart says it's a balancing act. there are only a certain number of trains. on top of that there are 80 cars out of service because they are getting new floors and

welcome back. funeral services for a woman who was killed by street racers in san jose. 24-year-old karen pac owe was jogging along the road on monday when two cars lost control rice racing. police say they were driving as fast as 70 miles an hour. pablo was pinned between one of the cars and the tree. her funeral will be at 12:30 at the chapel of the times hayward and candle light i have vigil will take place at 5:30 tonight. >> a woman is recovering after

low cloud deck on the coast and over the bay. we have fog but it will be sunny today. the weekend looks warmer and breezy. steve, is there any rain out there? maybe the end of next week. i say maybe. two the forecast models have latched on to that. one says not a chance. the one that says not a chance has been right for three or four weeks. we'll see what happens. hopefully we will get a pattern change. the models have done this so many times in the last since christmas eve. there is rain down in southern california and l.a. vegas into phoenix. we could use the rain. coast and bay and fog. there is plenty of that to go around. cool and cold. there might be a little bit of fog by the coast and the valley fog retreat. i think we know the drill by now. 30s and 40s and 50s. 37 napa and santa rosa.

the explosion happened yesterday morning when a leak from a gas truck ignited next to a children and maternity hospital. the explosion caused parking lot of the building to collapse. 56 people were injured and rescuers say there is no one left under the rubble. a gunman forced his way into a dutch television studio. the 19-year-old man threatened the security guard to get into the tv studio. he was carrying a handgun. it look the like it had a silencer on it. he was pacing back and forth demanding to be put on the air and he was briefly before the station shut down the broadcast. police officers you can hear them screaming stormed the set, the man topped the gun and -- dropped the gun and he was arrested.
