it's friday, january 30th. i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. >> i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic. steve, how is it looking out there? >> very foggy. not for all. but for many, there's coast fog, bay fog, from santa rosa to vallejo, all the way to san jose. even on the coast we have fog in there. there's pretty good rain in southern california, lighting up by kingman, arizona, las vegas, phoenix. today looks like rain in arizona, tomorrow decreases and sunday it shut calm down. it will be sunny, cool to warm, the fog will retreat by the coast and inland fog will start to head back to the valley. don't usually see this in january to get the radiation and the invection fog. that's what we have. there is a lot more today than yesterday. 30s, 40s, 50 is on the temps. 38 napa and santa rosa. some of that fog is thick 50

los gatos. 40s for morgan hill and gilroy. really foggy towards morgan hill. we have a lot of cloud cover in the four corners of southern california. not here. we have sunshine after the fog. burns and lifts or heads back to the coast or out to the sacramento valley. cool, mild, warm. 50s, 60s to near spent degrees. all right. sal, i've been listening. haven't heard anything major yet? we're dealing with the fog. right now i'm looking at the faa ground delay program. even though it's really foggy in san jose, according to the faa map, san francisco airport has delays expected a little later today of about an hour. it's interesting because phoenix airport also has delays because of weather and la guardia. those are the three airports that are right now across the country that are experiencing delays. guess what. san francisco is one of them. who knew? all right. let's take a look at the commute here in san jose. northbound 280,s get up to the

-- as you get up to the 880 interchange, look at the top. there is a crash at the top. you can see there is a bunch of crowding there at the top of the screen, then it moves well. that's a bus accident on northbound 280 getting up to highway 17. so please give yourself extra time as you drive through there. the traffic is going to be slow. it's not quite backed up from downtown san jose. but it is slow and once you pass that, you can see it looks better. northbound 280, about half-mile before the 17 interchange. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, this looks okay, westbound traffic is moving along nicely with no major problems. if you are driving in walnut creek, 680 from concord to walnut creek looks all right. highway 4 is still slow in antioch and pittsburg and baypoint. 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. oakland police are asking parents to be on alert this morning after a boy was sexually assaulted as he walked home from school. ktvu's alex savidge is here now to explain what happened and who police are looking for.

good morning, alex. >> police are worried there may be someone out there targeting children on the streets. the attack we're talking about here happened in this east oakland neighborhood here. we'll go further in and show you. it happened on this particular block of 98th avenue. in fact, the boy was walking along this block when the attack happened earlier this week. this is a 10-year-old boy and he says a man lured him off the street and then sexually assaulted him. this was at about 3:00 in the afternoon this past tuesday. now, investigators have alerted schools in that area, they are also reviewing surveillance video from some. nearby homes and businesses to see if that may help to identify the attacker here. and in the meantime, oakland police say they are concerned that other children in that area could be at risk. they are encouraging parents to talk with their kids about stranger danger. >> talk about what children can do. strangers, you don't want to engage in conversation with them. you don't want to go anywhere with them.

stranger is danger. >> and police are putting out this description of the man they are looking for this morning. he's described as hispanic, in his 40s, about 5'7". he has a slim build. short salt and pepper hair e also has what police are describing a fairly distinctive bushy, salt and pepper beard. at the time of the attack, he was wearing a brown leather jacket and black pants. if you have any information, a good idea to put in a call to oakland police. there's now a $7500 reward from crimestoppers on the table here in this case for any information. >> thank you, alex. health officials in marin county have confirmed their first two cases of the measles. now there are 12 cases overall in the bay area. san mateo and santa clara county each have two cases. alameda county has the highest number of confirmed cases in the bay area with six. the centers for disease control and prevent says the measles

outbreak that started in disneyland probably came from overseas. the virus has now infected 94 people in eight states. 67 can be clearly linked to disneyland. the cdc says either a foreign tourist or an american traveling overseas was infected and then spread the disease to others while visiting disneyland. 7:06. new this morning, rap music mogul suge knight turned himself into los angeles police this morning. he was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with a deadly hit and run. here's some video of suge knight and nis his lawyer walking -- and his lawyer walking into the sheriff's station. police say he was visiting a movie set in compton yesterday afternoon when he argued two men. witnesses say he got into his truck, followed the men in the restaurant, ran over the men in the parking lot and then fled the scene. one of the men died from his

injuries. knight's lawyer has confirmed knight was driving when the man was his. >> it was very shocking. >> so far people said it looked like an intention am act. so we're handling its a homicide. >> knight's lawyer said he was being assaulted by one of them. he's being held on $2 million bail. coming up at 7:45, ktvu's pam cook will have more details on the deadly incident and the arrest of suge knight. meantime, back here at home, a gunman is still on the loose after a deadly shooting last night at oakland. it happened outside of a liquor store on harrison street near pearl street in the adams point neighborhood. the "oakland tribune" is reporting the unidentified shooting victim was found outside the liquor store. we have few other details but the search for that shooter

continues. 7:07. b.a.r.t. has been asking its riders what they like and don't like about the service and they got an earful. paul chambers is live at the west oakland station with riders number one complaint and how b.a.r.t. is responding. >> good morning. they asked and they got the answers. now, more than 70% of b.a.r.t. riders are satisfied with the service but that's a 10% drp from two years ago when it was 84%. a lot of people are unhappy with the overcrowding and hot trains among other things. >> need more b.a.r.t. more than then cars. there's tons of people. i don't usually get a seat when i'm usually getting off at 5:00. >> the customer satisfaction results are not a big surprise for us. we knew we would see something like this. that's why we're taking steps to address it. >> reporter: and according to b.a.r.t., there are roughly 33,000 more passengers than two years ago. now -- what is b.a.r.t. doing about the overcrowding?

a short-term solution is running shorter trains on shorter routes during busy times during the day. b.a.r.t. plans to have 80 cars back up and running by july. b.a.r.t. says it would like to run more trains but currently can't because there aren't enough cars available. however, there is good news. the first ten cars of the new fleet are expected to go into service in the fall of next year. however, the remaining 765 will slowly be poured in over the next ten years. back to you. >> thank you, paul. 7:09. one of the biggest importers of mushrooms in the u.s. could face 20 years in prison for failing to pay taxes. the san jose mercury news reports the ceo of conford firms was indicted yesterday. david tong of hillsborough allegedly created phony invoices lowering the amount of import duties owed on the mush rules. he's free on $250,000 bond. he faces wire fraud and conspiracy charges. concord farms has locations in

union city and half moon bay. california is enforcing a plan to make sure marijuana growers do not harm the environment. the state has launched a series of inspections including fields being cultivated in hum bolt county. state regulators are concerned that in a drought people who are growing medical marijuana near waterways are taking the water for irrigation. there are no plans to pull the plans. the idea is to limit the environmental impact of the pot growing. there had is a new report about state parks and we should -- there is a new report about state parks and we should expect shorter hours and serious budget cuts. a new report says more has to be done to fix the system. the report calls for a fundamental transformation of the park system which covers almost 1.6 million acres. and it includes 339 miles of coastline. in particular, it says a new nonprofit organization is needed to help get more funding and also attract new visitors.

definitely going to affect, according to the faa website, san francisco airport a little later on. they will have a ground delay program that keeps planes delayed. a lot of flights delayed for an hour and one minute. i wonder how they come up with that, an hour and a minute. but that's what they say. let's take a look at 880 northbound and southbound. it looks okay. we had an earlier problem in san leandro that cleared up. and now there are no major problems driving through the stretch of 880. bay bridge toll plaza, we do have a delay here. it's backed up to the macarthur maze. about 20 minutes. not a huge deal getting into san francisco. i want to mention that contra costa county, we have some slowing from concord to walnut creek. but highway 24 looks good on the way to oakland. we also did have a couple of things on highway 4 westbound looks like we have a crash westbound near bailey but traffic had been heavy in this area. let's go to steve in the weather center. two and a half-mile

visibility and going down at the airport. >> if you are taking a flight, check with the airline. >> correct. if you can see it, another beautiful sunrise. a few high clouds. a lot of fog. a lot of coastal fog. end of january, yep. fog, though, santa rosa, napa has reports of vallejo and even san jose, a lot of fog. mountain view in there, much of the peninsula. fog, then sun, weekend looks warmer. breezy late tonight and tomorrow any rain possibility end of next week. i say possibility because we've seen this before. two of the forecast models are leaning in that direction. the other one which has been good for a month now says not a chance. we'll see what -- it won't be for a week. there is rain down in kingman, arizona. possibility of record rain. las vegas getting rain. phoenix is getting rain. los angeles over to palm springs also in the desert getting rain. for us, it's a sad, sad stat. december was the fifth wettest

ever in san francisco with 11.75. you follow that up with a january. that was the driest ever with no rain. that's the first time that's ever happened. the we talked about it in the winter months. december, january, february in san francisco. there have been two dry decembers. 1989, 1876. one dry february. 1864 but never has been there a dry january until now unless they get a .01 from drizzle which is possible because there's so much coastal fog. not sold out. it will burn off and lift. 40ss on the temps. santa rosa in there. napa in there. but 54 sfo, half moon bay, 54 and san jose mountain view reporting very thick fog. los altos. 39 petaluma has some fog. sebastopol is in there. 45 calistoga. a lot of cloud cover into the four corners. this looks like it will be with them through saturday, then

decreasing rapidly on sunday if by chance you are heading that way. high pressure will build to the north. that will give us a north- northeast breeze starting tonight into saturday which means a lot of sun for the weekend. if there's any fog it will burn off sooner. it looks like a nice pattern. next seven days rain, to the north. a little bit in extreme northern california. but nothing here maybe next friday, saturday. the try pattern continues. watch -- this is the american version of the long range outlook. it's called the global forecast system. it is trying to bring the rain in. we'll see. but the canadian model, which has been really, really good, has this big dome of high pressure on us and says you don't know what you are talking about. we'll see. cool, mild, warm. afternoon temps, 50s, 60s to 70s. beautiful day in clearlake. shot out to billy and lucille. they are all watching.

california's first case of ebola. health officials say someone showed up at a sacramento hospital yesterday who meets the government guidelines for being tested for ebola including a recent trip to west africa. the patient originally walked into the e.r. mercy general hospital a few miles away but was taken to uc dave vits which is one of four hospitals designated in california to treat possible ebola patients. >> we know the nurses have been drills sense then on a day-to- day basis and we know they are so much better prepared. >> according to one witness, the patient's arrival had several people leave. the ceo said we assure you that this patient's presence here poses no risk to you or our patients. the isolation room here is properly equipped and segregated.

7:25. if you are in boston and you want to find a place to park your car, better bring a shovel. that historic blizzard earlier this week, left two feet or more of snow in new england. when the snowplows cleared the streets, all of that snow has to go somewhere. now in boston, a lot of it is dumped where people usually park their cars. and when it comes to shoveling snow in boston, everybody has got to do it, including you, secretary of state, john kerry. kerry was hit with a $50 fine for not clearing off his sidewalks at his home in boston. he was busy. he was in saudi arabia during the blizzard. kerry's spokesman said the sidewalk is clear now and secretary kerry intends to pay that fine. the sierra snowpack is still near historic lows. the department of water resources measured the water content of the snow yesterday at echo summit above lake tahoe it's 12 passengers of average. the entire sierra, slight lit

pretty good on 880. one of the things i want to mention is the peninsula traffic is okay getting to the san francisco airport and also decent on the way down to palo alto. 7:32. let's go back to the desk. some frightening moments late last night in alameda for a woman in her townhouse that caught fire and she barely got out. ktvu's brian flores joining us live. you are outside of the home with more on the story and you are showing us some of that damage, brian. >> reporter: yeah, let's get right to the damage. we are on the 1100 block in of camino. you can see burned tables, chairs, tarp on the windows. the fire officials gave us an update. but a viewer not only shot the video you are about see but said he rescued a couple of people who didn't even know the

fire was burning. this was alameda firefighters putting water onto the fire that began just before 8:45 last night. this sh a two-story town home where the fire started. fire officials say it started somehow in the downstairs living room. there are a couple of rooms in the downstairs. that's where they say it started. but the fire spread upstairs also. alameda firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire keeping it from spreading to nearby unknits. according to the viewer who took the video, he had to pull the woman out of the town home and notified another neighbor that the fire was burning. luckily, another were no major injuries. only minor injuries to the woman living here. back out here live, you are taking a look at the damage from the fire last night. i spoke with fire officials not too long ago. we're still trying to speak with the person who shot the video. i've been trying to contact him all morning long but they say that the person who escorted the elderly woman that lived in this town home was a teenaged

boy. he esescorted her out -- escorted her out and went to a neighbor's house and got that person out. we're trying to get in touch with that person. i'm sure he has quite a story to tell. i'm sure he's tired from all of the fire burning last night. back to you. san francisco business owners whose stores were destroyed in a large fire on wednesday night will be escorted inside their businesses to see the damage firsthand today. the fire raced through the three-story building on 22nd and mission that housed 18 apartments and several businesses including a popeye restaurant. the cause of the fire still isn't known but there are reports that fire alarms never went off and that the building's fire escape ladders were padlocked or just did not work properly. >> i grabbled my -- grabbed my dog, went down the ladders and from there, i had to jump.

>> one person died while trying to escape the burning building at a local church. his friends shared photos and sawyers about him. they said -- -- they said he was a single individual who came from el salvador. police in berkeley are searching for a man who attacked an 83-year-old man and stole his iphone. the police just released this video. it happened december 26th. look at this. the elderly man just purchased an iphone at the apple store on 4th street. a man in a red hoodie, ripped the phone away and hurt him in the process. the police say the suspect got away in a sill verl audi with paper license plates -- silver audi with paper license plates police describe the man as african-american, mid-30s, wearing light blue jeans and a red zipup gap hooded sweatshirt. san francisco police are

circulating a photo of someone they believe may have something to do with a suitcase that contained body parts. more body parts were found nearby. police say the victim's head and hands have not been found and that makes identifying the victim very hard. people who live and work in the area are horrified by this. one man said he was working nearby when police found the body part inside of a dumpster. >> i talked to the cop. what did you see in there? what did you find in there? >> he said you don't want to know. >> so far, police are not releasing that photo to the media. but people who have seen it say it's blurry. it shows someone from behind wearing a hoodie. they say it's hard to tell if it's a man or a woman. the police are only showing that photo to people who they think might recognize the person. 7:37. the senate has passed a bill authorizing the controversial keystone pipeline despite the threat of a veto from president

obama. nine democrats joined 53 republicans in passing the bill for a total vote of 62-36. but that's just short of the threshold needed to override a veto. the bill authorizes construction of the nearly 1200- mile pipeline to carry oil primarily from the tar sands in canada to refineries in the gulf coast. people in favor of the pipeline say it would pump billions of dlafers dollars into the economy and create jobs. the state department says it would actually only create fewer than 40 permanent jobs. it's the goal that a lot of shark fans are talking about this morning. >> scores! >> it thanked in the second period of -- -- dash it happened in the second period.

well, known rapper suge knight was arrested overnight. the l.a. county sheriff's office says it's for murder. pam cook joins us for what happened and how it may have started on a movie set. >> good morning. a lot of details still coming out. suge knight was interviewed extensively overnight and into this morning. witnesses are being questioned still by investigators this

morning. but the l.a. county sheriff's office says what happened appears to intentional. this is video of knight and his attorney as he turned himself in for questioning earlier this morning after sheriff's deputies were looking for him. investigators say knight was visiting a movie set yesterday afternoon, when a fight broke out between him and two men. witnesses say that argument moved to a burger place nearby and that's when things got violent. >> as we're arguing, the driver of the red pickup end up running over a couple people in the parking lot and taking off. >> to see the argument happen is one thing. nobody deserves to lose their life. seeing the car incident, that was very shocking. >> knight's attorney says knight was driving the car that hit the men but that he was being assaulted by the men and was trying to escape when he hit one of them. tmz reports that one of the critical factors is that witnesses claim, suge knight threw his car into reverse once

and then a second time in what they say -- in what witnesses say was an intentional move to hit those men in the parking lot. now, the movie set he was visiting is about a pioneering rap group that included ice cube and dr. dre and the group is crediting with making mainstream and inspiring many of today's top artists. we'll certainly have developing news on this story throughout the day. dave and tori? >> all right. thank you. 7:44. comcast apologizing after an employee changed a customer's name on a bill to a word we can't say on television. here is a copy of the bill posted on elliott.org. lisa brown of spoe ka kan said she called to cancel -- spokane said she called to cancel. a couple weeks later, a bill showed up with the inappropriate name in place of her husband's first name.

certainly a disturbing crime here. oakland police have quite a bit of concern. there may be someone out there targeting children in one particular neighborhood. in this case, we're talking about a 10-year-old boy who says earlier this week, a man sexually assaulted him during his walk home from school. it happened in this part of east oakland, the young victim told police the attacker lured him off the street on 98th avenue close to international boulevard and that's when the boy was sexually assaulted. this happened about 3:00 in the afternoon. this past tuesday. now, investigators went ahead and alerted schools in the area to what happens. they are reviewing surveillance video from some. nearby homes and businesses to see if that might help identify the attacker. that in the meantime, oakland police say they are concerned of other children could be at risk here. they are encouraging parents to talk with their kids about stranger danger. >> talk about what children can do. strangers. you don't want to beag engage in conversation with them.

alameda has the highest number of cases with six. the cdc says the measles outbreak that started in disneyland probably came from overseas. the virus has infected 94 people in eight states. 67 can be clearly linked to disneyland. the cdc says either a foreign tourist infected and spread the disease to others. with concern yoking over the measles outbreak here is for who the cdc should get the measles vaccine. infants can get their first dose between 12 and 15 months. their second dose should happen between 4 and 6 years old. and for adults anyone born after 1957 should get at least one dose of the vaccine. people born before that are considered immune because they live through several years of measles epidemics and likely had the disease already. that's good information.

a second campus at city college of san francisco it's closing because of earthquake safety concerns. now, earlier this month, administrators moved them to the golf street location because the quake concerns. now of the golf street is closing because of the some issue. this is angering students and teachers. they are still upset about the sudden relocation out of the civic center location just before classes. they will let students take classes at other campuses and may provide transportation. hot, crowded trains are at the top of the list of things b.a.r.t. riders do not like about the train service. ktvu channel 2 reporter paul chambers is in west oakland with the latest passenger survey and the steps they are taking to make the ride smoother. >> reporter: a recent survey conducted by b.a.r.t. says 78% of the riders are happy with the agency.

del via. you can see the damage to the chairs and the tarp in the window. a ktvu viewer not only shot the video. from what we understand he rescued a couple people as the fires with burning. this was alameda firefighters putting water on the fire that began around 8:45 last night. this is a two-story town home where the fire originated. fire officials say it started somehow in the downstairs living room and spread upstairs. we're told by firefighters this morning that an elderly woman lives here alone here. she apparently made it to the doorway by herself. but had to be escorted by perhaps a teenaged boy who was living nearby. of course, the concern for residents who saw the fire was that it might spread to their home. but luckily, it was kept to the one town home.

it is 8:41. there's no word on the fate of two hostages held pie the salt lake state terror group. a deadline has come and gone for a prisoner swap proposed by isis. the terror group said it would release a jordanian pilot and possibly a japanese journalist in exchange for an iraqi woman. the woman was convicted in the terrorist bombing case. the swap was supposed to happen yesterday. but first jordan wanted proof the pilot was alive and apparently that proof has not come yet. the taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack at the airport in carb, afghanistan. a gunman shot three american contractors and one afghan man. an afghan official said the taliban fighter had infiltrated the ranks of afghan forces to stage the attack and wore a

police uniform. we have video of that explosion in mexico city that killed four people including three babies. this happened yesterday morning when a leak from a gas truck ignited next to a children's an maternity hospital. that explosion caused part of the building to fall down. 56 people were hurt. rescuers are saying it appears there's no one left under all of that rubble. take a look at this photo. it shows a firefighter carrying a newborn baby out of that rubble. he's being called a hero for trying to save that baby but the baby later died. more than00 people were in the hospital at the time of that blast. dozens of people ran to the hospital trying to pull people out when the building collapsed. an armed gunman forced his bay into a dutch tv -- his way into a dutch tv station. the 19-year-old man, you see him here holding a gun. >> threaten a security guard to get into the studio.

for irrigation. there are plans to pull the plants. it's to limit the environmental impact of the pot growing. there is a new report about the state parks. we should expect shorter hours and serious budget cuts. the new report out today says more has to be done to fix the park system. it calls for transforming the park system which covers almost moi 1.6 million acres. a new nonprofit organization is needed to raise money for the parks and also attract new visitors. the turnaround could take about two years. it includes better transportation, online tools for planning visits and updating the cabins for those overnight stays. it would include a man to make it so so all state parks can accept credit and atm cards. they are recommending a vehicle license feet fee to generate -- license fee to generate more coming in. don't move a muscle.
