freeway. a pickup truck caught fire just after 10:30 this morning on interstate 880. this is at the washington avenue exit in san leandro. look at that charred remains of the truck there. the chp and fire engines blocked all but one lane in the northbound direction for about an hour. that caused traffic to back up all the way to highway 237 in hayward. there were some small explosions coming from the truck and for a while, the chp thought the truck itself might explode. the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. san francisco investigators have more information this noontime on the person whose body parts were found in a suitcase. the medical examiner's office says that person was an unidentified light-skinned male. the suitcase was found wednesday afternoon at 19th and mark streits. more body parts were found nearby. the victim's head and hands have not been found. they are asking for the lab for

help. one man said he was working nearby when police found a body part in a dumpster. >> i talked to the cop. i was like what did you see in there? what did you find in there? he says, you don't want to know. >> police are also circulating a photo of a person of interest in the case. at this hour, san francisco police are investigating a home- invasion robbery where the suspects may have been dressed as utility workers. ktvu's brian flores is in san francisco where the crime happened a few hours ago. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: yeah, it did. good afternoon to you. we're on the 100 block of farrelon street. this remains an active investigation at this hour. the good news is that the victim in this case is doing okay. now, police tell us that this started around 8:15 this morning. a woman living here was waking up from sleeping when she saw a man wearing a yellow vest coming out of her bathroom. she thought it might have been a pg&e worker. that man didn't say anything and just left police say the man may have gotten into the

home by an unlocked window or door. it remains unclear exactly how i fought into the house-- got into the house. about 30 minutes later a woman knocked on the door. she was not wearing a vest. she struck up a conversation and the victim allows the woman to use the bathroom. soon after that, the man wearing the yellow vest enters, they put a blanket over the victim, pulled a knife on her and went through the houser looking for valuables. >> they are asking her for money and jewelry. they put a blanket over her head and they are rummaging through the place and they haven't found what they want. they want something valuable and they don't see anything. they almost frustrated and they start hitting her on the head. >> police say when they ransacked her home they got away with about $7,000 worth of jewelry. about $5,000 worth. tools. that information coming from the family members at this hour. the victim again doing okay.

she lives here with her husband and another couple. she was at home while the other three people were at work. as we take it live in the oceanview neighborhood, the victim only seened contusions on her head. she did receive medical attention but they continue to look for any information, any witnesses who may have heard something. if you did, you are urged to call san francisco police. back to you. >> thank you. we have an update from state health officials who now say a patient at uc davis medical center who showed signs of the a viral illness has negative for ebola. that patient showed up at a sacramento hospital yesterday. doctors said the person met the government guidelines for being tested especially, including a -- looking for ebola. the hospital said the unidentified patient is doing well. health officials in marin county have confirmed their

first two cases of the measles. now there are 12 cases overall in the bay area. san mateo and santa clara county each have two cases. alameda county has the highest number of confirmed cases in the bay area with six. across the country, the cdc says it's seen more measles cases this month than it usually does in an entire year. now we're getting word that a number of california pediatricians are refusing to see children whose parents will not allow them to get vaccinated. the virus has now infected 94 people in eight states. at least 67 measles cases can be clearly linked to disneyland parks. the cdc says either a foreign securist -- tourist or an american traveling overseas was probably infect spread the virus. a boy was sexually assaulted as et walked home from school this week.

a 10-year-old boy said a man lured him off the street on 98th avenue near international boulevard. the attack happened around 3:00 this afternoon this past tuesday. investigators are reviewing surveillance video from nearby homes and businesses to see if it can help identify the attacker. police alerted schools in the area and they are encouraging parents to talk to their kids. >> talk about what children can do. strangers, you don't want to engage in conversation with them. you don't want to go anywhere with them. stranger is danger. >> police say the man they are looking for is described as hsht in his 40s about 5'7" with a slim build. he has short salt and pepper hair with a bushy salt and pepper beard. san francisco business owners whose stores were destroyed in a deadly fire are being you a loud -- allowed back in side. the fire raced through 22nd and mission wednesday tonight. today they are being escorted into the building to see the

damage first hand. the building housed 18 apartments and several businesses, including a popeye's restaurant. the cause of the fire is unknown. one resident died trying to escape the claims. pg&e is set to release thousands of controversial e- mails in connection to the probe of back-chaning diehlings. they were ordered to share 65,000 e-mails with the public utilities commission and the city of san bruno by today. the content of the e-mails is unclear. but previously released e-mails between pg&e and officials at the puc were about pending rate increases following the deadly san bruno explosion. rapper suge knight is in custody in connection with a deadly hit-and-run in los angeles. this is video of knight and his attorney walking into the l.a. county sheriff's department station this morning. police say knight was visiting a movie set in compton

yesterday when he got into an argument with two men. witnesses say he gout into his truck, followed the men 2002 restaurant, rav over men in the parking lot and fled the scene. one of the men died from his injuries. knight's attorney has confirmed knight was driving. >> so far the people we talked to said it looked like an intentional act, we're handle it as a homicide. >> knight's attorney said his client was being assaulted by one of them. he's being held on $2 million bail. the taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack that left three american contractors dead in kabul. the gunman reportedly rose through the ranks of afghan forces waiting for the right time to carry out the attack. as joe wauldman reports, the recent killings are raising

iphone from an 83-year-old man in berkeley. it happened back on december 26th. police say the man had just bought the iphone at the apple store on 4th street when a man in a red hoodie walked up to him and ripped the phone from his hand. here's another look at the suspect. police say he escaped in a silver audi with paper license plates. no other information about the suspect. police are asking anyone with information to give them a call. mitt romney will not be making a run for the white house in 2016. he made the at nounsment a few -- the announcement a few hours ago. he said he will not seek the republican presidential nomination. the former massachusetts governor surprised some earlier this month by suggesting he was considering a third run. but this morning he said, "after putting considerable thought into making another run for president, i've decided it's best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee." it's been a tough year,

down into san diego. this is working its way into nevada as well as arizona. a few sprinkles reported over tahoe earlier today. right now we're looking at mostly cloudy skies and then we get into the bay area where things really haven't changed. we're dry, the morning fog breaking up. but you can see inside the bay thinning out. it's along the coastline as well. partly cloudy skies in store for the coast. the rest of us will be mostly sunny. we have the system moving out toward the east. we have a ridge of high pressure in place for the weekend. that's going to lead to a dry forecast. pressure gradient between the two going to kick up the northerly winds. i think tonight into tomorrow, we have the possibility of winds picking up. if you live in these areas, that to be aware of. no advisories but it could be breezy as we get into the evening hours. 64 degrees in concord. 65 in walnut creek. napa, struggling at 50 degrees. it has to do with the fog. you can see around the bay where the low clouds and fog sort of stuck a little bit longer than for others.

shares of amazon.com up over 14% right now after being quarterly profit expectations by a mile. taking a live look at the big board -- president obama announced a major research initiative that he says will help develop drugs to target deadly diseases. president obama is asking a million volunteers to provide their genetic information to scientists. he says that information will help researchers pinpoint factors that can lead to cancer and other diseases. researchers would also gather information about the volunteers' diets and lifestyle. the president is asking congress to approve $215 million for the project. stanford has just received a major grant to speed up the discovery of vaccines. the bill and melinda gates foundation will donate $50 million.

it will sustain a human systems immune knollgy system. a growing number of b.a.r.t. riders say they are dissatisfied with the service they are getting. a recent b.a.r.t. survey shows 74% of riders are satisfied with the agency but that's a 10% drop from two years ago. the biggest complaints are hot, overcrowded trains, dirty carpets and seats. >> if you try to get here at 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning, it's crazy. if you try to leave at 4:30 or 5:00 in the afternoon, it's not. it's extremely crowded. if you get in the wrong car, it's too hot and sometimes it smells really bad. nothing you can do about it. you are stuck for 15 or 20 minutes. bart is running more trains on shorter routes during busy times of the day to ease overcrowding. it's also working on repairing 80 broken cars by july and ten new cars are expected to go into the service next year.
