there. the offshore winds as we had protected. we're waking up with a few patches of fog this morning. most of us mostly clear. storm tracker 2 showing you again just a little bit of cloud cover out there. mostly sunny skies around the bay and inland this morning. we'll check on those winds, we have calm conditions in and around know have a tow. we're reporting 5 miles per hour, it's breezy in our hills. most of us are not feeling the wind. livermore, a weak onshore breeze. in addition to the clear skies, these winds are having an impact on our temperatures as w63 half moon bay 63 san francisco, 60 degrees sfo, i thought wow, when i came in this morning, it's balmy out here. you're in the 50s and low 60s this morning. if you don't have the wind you're like 41 degrees in know have a tow and 40 degrees in concord and 48 in san jose. a cool start for you as well.

take a look at concord to walnut creek. no wind and wind, we have 58 degrees. i'll detail the numbers for you coming up. there is a major development in the mysterious case of body parts shoved in a suitcase. we are live at the hall of justice where police have detained a person of interest. >> reporter: no word from police yet this morning whether the person who was brought in from questioning has been released overnight. police have confirmed, the man they brought in for questioning last night, this person of interest seen here with this sheet covering him is the same person that was seen in a grainy surveillance picture that police released around 2:00 yesterday and. they released that picture showing a man in his 50s or 60s with a baseball cap. and the man with the sheet covering him is the same man in

that picture. they wanted to find and talk to the man, he was in the area of 11th and mission a few days before, a suitcase was found outside the goodwill store with a dismembered body outside. after circulating the photo in a few hours, they got a call on the anonymous tip line, someone said the man they were looking for for questioning lived at 434th street. >> we got a call from anonymous tip line, nothing, but a quick blush, i don't know who that person is, i want to say thank you to that person for going ahead and giving us a call and letting us know that person was there. >> now, police don't know if a man in the photo, the man with the white sheet was brought into the patrol car had anything to do with the crime. at that point they wanted to talk to him in connection with this case. police got a second man from that residence in for questioning. at this point we're waiting to hear if that led to any arrests or if that person of interest,

the man with the white sheet was released. back to you. thank you ali. an investigation is under way at another security breach at the airport. operations are running normally at thator this morning. you're looking at a live look at the airport and it's clear out there. someone was walking on the side of a runway after he got through a fence. he was chased down before he could escape over another fence. he's been identified as 40-year- old jose mendoza. his arrest shows that new security measures are working. it's the fourth breach in ten months, and that includes a 15- year-old boy who held in a wheel of a plane that flew to hawaii. there are 91 confirmed

cases of measles since wednesday. 68% have been linked to those from disneyland. the outbreak started last month, and it started when someone to disneyland. they've confirmed a third case of measles. there are now 13 cases in the bay area, marin county and santa clara county has two confirmed cases and alameda county has the highest number confirmed with six. they are encouraging parents to get measles for their children. president obama's secretary says the science on vaccinations is really clear. the vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles. uc -- go ahead. the medical center is set to open yesterday. they're expected to have the

largest fleet of robots. they'll transport lab specimens. each robot can carry 1,000 pounds and will travel several times each day. and it costs $6 million, for each robot. the new 55, 16th street line will increase service along the eastern end of 16th street. bus also run every 15 minutes during the day and 20 minutes during the day. a deadly danger for pets in an east bay park. algae is poisoning dogs at lake chabot. three dogs have died so far and there may be more. there is a warning from the east bay warning is too little too late. >> it's this green algae everywhere, it's fatally toxic to dogs. >> katie warns everyone with a dog to know what she had known.

have the ridge of high pressure locked in over the bay area. the system to the south of us and the ridge of high pressure nosing into the bay area has kicked up the winds and because of it some of us are waking up quite a bit warmer than where we were 24 hours ago. it's a help to keep that fog away. we're looking at a few patches of fog out there and we'll be sunny for the afternoon as well. as we get no the first part of february, we'll start out dry and we'll get rain as would he get into the second part of the weekend, into the weekend. i'll take you forward and we'll check in on our numbers for today. as we got into saturday, we have mostly sunny skies, notice the clouds are here, that ridge of high pressure that's in place today will weaken a little bit. and that will weaken the onshore breeze. it will be partly cloudy but not as warm. we're dry and all the way into thursday now, and here comes

the possibility of rain. thursday, friday, and last nothing saturday. that will be our next chance, let's cross our fingers and say a little prayer that rain is coming our way for the end of the week. as we get outdoors this morning. look at some of these numbers. we're 39 degrees in novato where things are calm. we're 64 at half moon bay, winds are gusting at 20 miles per hour. we're seeing it all over the bay area. 61 in hayward, 40 degrees in concord with mostly clear skies and calm conditions, as we got into the second half we'll catch up and we'll be around mid 60 and low 70s, we have 70 for san rafael. upper 60s to low 70s, 69 san jose, 72 degrees expected for santa cruz, the extended forecast with the bay area weekend always in view. we're still going to stay well above average, and notice as we get into the business week,

this morning. look at half moon bay, hayward reporting 12, conrad and san jose, if you don't see the trees blowing or swaying beings you could have wind in the hills and it compresses and warms as it moves in. we have temperatures in the low 60s. hayward we saw wind there, 61, half moon bay you're at 64 and napa 59 degrees outside your door right now. even though the winds are light we have an offshore breeze blowing through and warming things up. 15 degrees warmer, fairfield also doing the same. livermore a lot warmer this morning, you'll notice if you're stepping out this morning early on, but take a look we have calm conditions and 39 degrees in know have a tow. not everybody in this party, but again, if you have a little bit of wind outside your door, it's making a difference this morning. as we get into the afternoon, mid-60s in the forecast.

73, santa rosa this afternoon. 69 redwood city and 66 for san francisco and upper 60s in san jose. in the extended forecast, you could see a chance of rain coming in the bay area and i'll show you that coming up. san francisco police detain a man who may be connected to remains found in a suitcase. ali is outside where the police investigation is far from over. >> police brought the man in in connection to the police found last night. he's possibly being detained and questioned. no word from san francisco police this morning. what police have confirmed, the person they brought in for questioning seen by a white sheet is the same man seen in a grainy surveillance picture that police sent out yesterday afternoon. they released it at 2:00, it was a man in their 50s or 60s

with a baseball cap. they wanted to find and talk to the man since he was in the area of 11 and mission on weapons. and that's when the suitcase was found with a dismembered body inside. they got a call on their anonymous tip line where someone said the man they were looking for lived at the 400th block of turk street. last night police said the person that they arrested was a person of interest, not a suspect, and they claim that's why they concealed his identity with that sheet. >> i believe the people on the scene did put, covered his face for a precautionary measure. obviously, this person is entitled to justice and in the interests of justice we wanted to make sure no doubt is placed in anyone's mind if he is, in fact, the suspect. >> now, as of last night police said they did not know if the man in the photo or that man with the white sheet they took

into custody had anything to do with the crime. they wanted to talk to him. they brought a second man from the residents in for questioning. we're waiting to find out if any of that questioning led to anything, whether either man was arrested or whether they were released overnight. we just don't know yet, no updates yet, mike. >> hopefully we'll get answers to those questions. thanks for that report. an attorney for rap music mogul suge knight, his client was arrested for a deadly hit and run. he was visiting a movie set when he got in an argument with two men working on the set and he followed the men into a restaurant and ran over the men in the parking lot and fled the scene. >> there are witnesses who said that mr. knight was being attacked by a number of men.

that they were beating him,000 the car window, he was making an effort to leave and tragically two were run over and one was expired. >> he's being held on $2 million bail. the huge fire in the mission district had a chance to retrieve belongings, one person died. 50 people are without homes and ten businesses were destroyed. the people who lived in the apartments were allowed to get their belongings and storage lockers out. what she wants most is upstairs in her apartment which is still off limits. >> all my tools, all the photographic workers of the work of my life, my family photos, my newest projects and i'm 73. do i have time to do it again?

who knows. >> there is no official word yet on what caused the fire. who knows, some say an unattended religious candle may have sparked it. this is being questioned by some residents. cellphone video shows the moments leading up to a shooting. police responded to a man who had a hammer and neighbors screamed for him to put it down. a police dog rushes that man and police say he hit the dog with his hammer and tried to go after officers and he was tased and eventually shot. police should not have pulled the trigger. he said the video supports officers' versions of events. >> that could have been any one of us. >> that video seems to confirm

the sequence of events on how the shooting and how the events that led up to the shooting went down. >> the officers involved in the shooting were not hurt and have been placed on paid administrative leave. >> a jogger was hit and killed during a street race. they've put a permanent speed, it will flash slow down if cars go at least ten miles per hour over the posted speed limit. this one was delivered in a day when it normally takes four months to get it. >> the tragedy happened, we thought outside of the box and we thought how can we get something in there immediately. >> signs will be installed in high traffic areas within two weeks. karen was on a sidewalk on this road near aiden wood drive when she was struck and killed by a

speeding car and she was laid to rest yesterday. a case is coming out at kaiser permanent call centers. she died from bacterial meningitis. it's a contagious infection that can lead to death or permanent brain damage. about 450 people work at that service center answering phones for kaiser's human resources office. >> it's a life-threatening condition and even those who recover may have permanent damage to the brain. people should be reassured that we really don't see transmission of this in the work place. we obtained e-mails sent to employees notified them at the worker death and employees worked near proximity have been contacted and taking steps to keep them healthy. there's a unrelated case of viral meningitis which is less serious and most recover from that in a matter of weeks.

16% since 1980. the average commuter who spends 24 minutes on the ride spends 28 minutes on the road. and san francisco residents average more than 30 minutes. people in alameda county spend nearly 29 minutes commuting and in contra costa county that's more than 33 minutes. >> and the longest commutes not surprisingly are found in places like eastern contra costa county, cities like antioch, oakland. >> those who spend time commuting rather than driving using public transportation have longer commute times. >> they'll be adding the new trip at 8:40 in the morning. that is expected to relieve

we have a offshore breeze and that is what has prevented that fog from forming in and around the bay area even parts of the central valley looking good this morning. the high clouds will roll in for tomorrow. to set it up for you here, ridge of high pressure, in control of our weather pattern. we have a system that's over southern california and it's pushing its way towards the east. the pressure gradiant between the two are kicking up our winds, in our hills this morning we have a good breeze especially over the east bay hills and over areas along the peninsula, even if you don't see it outside your door this morning, and you don't see those trees swaying around, it's impacting our numbers, and i'll show you that coming up in a moment. we're dry today, we'll get through saturday, not a lot going on, beautiful weather coming our way. as we get into sunday, we have minor changes coming. we'll have the partly cloudy skies and the onshore breeze is expected to return. the rain is going to stick to

historic balloon journey made it to mexico. it touched down to baha california. this is video showing the video of the american and russian team, they have flown more than 000 miles. they traveled farther and longer in a gas balloon than anyone in history. the previous record was set back in 1978, that team flew 137 hours. the warriors are looking to break their longest losings streak in a season. they lost to the utah jazz 100. the coach said the team lacked energy to a younger and more hungry team. it's the second time they lost back to back games. they still have the best record and they hope to snap this losing streak against the phoenix sun team.

finished out this morning. police brought this man in for questioning last night and so far no word yet from san francisco police as to whether the man was arrested released or if he's still being questioned. what police have confirmed is this person that you see here covered with the white sheet is the same man seen in a grainy picture that they circulated yesterday afternoon. police released the picture yesterday showing a man in his 50s or 60s with a baseball cap. they wanted to find and talk to him because he was in the area of 11th and mission on wednesday and that's when the suitcase was found outside of the goodwill store with the body inside. within hours, they got a call from their anonymous tip line and someone who said that the man they were looking for lived on the 400 block of turk street. that's where police went last night and brought the man with the sheet covering over him in the police control car. the man was a person of interest not a suspect, they concealed his identity. there was a second man that

police also took down for questioning. police would not say who he was or whether he lived in the same building. >> they got a person, a possible murder in the area. he might want to kill someone else, you got all these kids running around here. >> these are only persons of interest and we'll find out their involvement in the crime, if, in fact, they're involved. >> as of last night they did not know if the man in the photo or the other person questioned had anything to do with this crime. they were emphasizing that at that point last night when they brought them in for questioning they simply wanted to talk to them. we have reached out to san francisco police what came of that questioning, whether they were being questioned or were arrested or were released sometime in the middle of the night. we're waiting to hear back. claudine? >> thank you.

there are now 91 confirmed cases up from 79 on wednesday. of those 58 infections have been linked to visits to disneyland. half a dozen states in mexico have recorded cases. the outbreak started last month after people went to disneyland. and alameda county has confirmed measles. marin county and santa clara cases have two confirmed cases and alameda cases has the highest number of confirmed cases with six. the medical center in mission bay is set to open tomorrow. the hospital will have the largest fleet of robots that are programmed to transport items such as meals, medications and lab specimens. it's expected to travel 12 miles inside the medical center each day. the robots cost the hospital $6 million. the new bus route will connect
