beautiful sunrise. let's get to the numbers. this is definitely the headline at this hour. 36 degrees in napa. that is 12 to 14 degrees cooler than where we were 24 hours ago. 39 in novato. 48 at sfo. livermore 38 degrees, that is cooler than yesterday at this hour. the off-shore winds are gone. because of it our numbers are coming down. for the afternoon they will be coming down as well. so again partly cloudy skies this morning. as we roll through your sunday afternoon notice the clouds continue to pass on by. that is really going to be about it. the onshore breeze will be a little stronger today and again our temperatures, notice widespread 60s on the map. not 70s. some of us even broke a few records yesterday. so i will put some numbers on the screen, in the extended forecast still tracking the possibility of rain. i'll have the update on that coming up. happening now -- a billion- dollar state of the art medical facility is officially opening in stores along the san francisco waterfront. it is a potentially life-saving project that has been in the

works for years. ktvu's allie russmus at the campus where some patients are being transferred to the new facility. not an easy process. >> reporter: it's a huge logistical operation. it took 15 years of planning and cost $1.5 billion to build. today's the first day the usf mission bay campus will be in operation. a new hospital? you need patients. that's what's happening this morning. there's 125 patients that will be transported from the ucsf parnassus campus to the mission bay campus. the way they will do that is, take 40 ambulances to transport all the people. in fact right at that intersection there you can see the headlights of three ambulances pulling up. ambulances will be arriving every four minutes, they are going to be taking some of these patients to that new mission bay campus. they will be escorted by police. along the way the patients have

been matched up with specific ambulances in order to make sure all their needs are met on the ride over to this new hospital. we talked to ucsf's ceo about this logistical operation. >> it's a huge number of people, obviously getting the ambulances but also the families, the patients, getting them all ready. it's a big day, a big deal. >> reporter: the new campus hospital has a lot of new technology they are touting. they have 25 medical robots that can roam the halls, traveling about 12 miles a day they expect of this new campus. and they will be able to transport and dispense food and medication and the patient rooms also come equipped with a lot of equipment. monitors and tablets that allow patients to do things like view their own x-rays and test results from the come pert of their room. again the ucsf misbay campus,

it's the first day in operation and right now we're watching part of the process. some ambulances here that will be transporting 125 patients from this campus over to that new hospital. what type of patients? there are some cancer patients, there are some pediatric patients, some young kids that will be heading over. also some infants from the neoinatal intensive care unit will be going to the new campus. we're told there were three women who were about to deliver at the parnassus one, they were hoping to get to the new one in time to deliver babies in time. we're told they went into labor this morning so they will be staying here at the old hospital delivering their babies and then once things settle down later on today the new moms and babies, three of them, three moms, three babies, will be heading to the new mission bay campus. >> they will get there eventually. >> reporter: yes. according to the hospital representatives the new moms were hoping to deliver their

babies, be the first to deliver in the new hospital. >> babies come when they want to come. they don't ask us. >> reporter: you can't plan for that. >> thank you. live from san francisco. a large apartment fire in san francisco displaced more than two dozen people. that fire started 1:20 yesterday afternoon at a building near alamo square in the city's western addition. it grew to four alarms. 100 firefighters battled the flames as they spread to two other buildings. a 71-year-old tenant and her great grandson said they didn't even know the building was burning >> they knocked my windows out. we was running downstairs and we seen fire. in the den. >> i was scared and he was crying. and i was crying. it was terrible. >> one firefighter went to the hospital with the leg injury and exhaustion but will be ok. no tenants were hurt. the red cross has been helping some of them find temporary housing. investigators say they don't

know what started that fire but they don't think it was intentionally set. a former champion swimmer at stamford is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow on sexual assault charges. 19-year-old brock turner faces five felony counts including rape. accused of raping an unconscious and intoxicated woman at a fraternity party two weeks ago. he told police he kissed the woman but denies assaulting her. the alleged victim is not a stamford student. turner, voluntarily dropped out of school and free on $150,000 bail. police in san francisco say they are doing whatever they can to get everyone home safely from super bowl parties today. teeming up with madd and uber. uber is going to donate a dollar to madd. users enter the promo code "think and ride." police officers from across the bay area will be in full force looking for drunk drivers. they say they make more drunk driving arrests on super bowl sunday than any other sunday of

the year. aaa is also offering people a safe ride home. part of their tipsy tow program starting 6:00 tonight. aaa will transport people and their cars for up to 10 miles. this is not a program that is only available to aaa members. just call 1-800-aaa-help. and say "i need a tipsy tow." in arizona last week i picked up this football. the official super bowl ball with the patriots and seahawks logos on it. it's for my son. i snuck in his room and took it, so i could be borrow it for the show. even though the 49ers and raiders aren't in the super bowl the big game comes with a lot of hype. >> this year two of the main storylines are centered around players with bay area roots. >> reporter: the bay area is noted for its diversity. that couldn't be better demonstrated than the contrast between two of the biggest

stars in super bowl xlix >> i'm comfortable staying it nobody did it as far as i know. >> reporter: the air pressure in the footballs was a hot topic in the leadup to the game but in reality a trivial footnote when it comes to any outcome determining factor. new england quarterback tom brady continues to be america's golden boy. he's married to a super model with his roots at san mateo's sarah high school. brady's presence is still very much felt on the field and in the hallways and trophy cases. one of his former receivers, john kirby now assistant athletic director. >> we knew he would be a great college quarterback but no one could fathom the ranks he's ascended to now and we could never think a lot of us were coaching him, playing with maybe one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. >> i'm here so i won't get fined. i'm here so i won't get fined. >> reporter: fans across the bay have another role model.

the daughter of singer bobbi kristina and the late whitney houston has been put in a medically induced coma. 21-year-old bobbi kristina brown was found unresponsive in her home yesterday morning in her home in roswell, georgia. three years ago before the grammys her mother found dead in a bathtub. tests found cocaine was in whitney houston's houston and

considered a factor in her death. georgia police say they didn't find prescriptions or drugs in bobbi kristina's home and still trying to figure out what happened. the measles outbreak continues to spread across california and beyond. solano county health officials confirmed the first case friday night. there are three cases in san mateo at least and two more in morerin county including siblings. officials believe the morrine cases are connected to disneyland and measles has been confirmed in 14 states and mexico. health officials say a college student with measles boarded an amtrak train from new york city to albany last sunday. officials say everyone on the train who has not been immunized and has a fever should call their doctor before showing up for care. amtrak says it cleans its trains everyday and is working with the new york health department to contact everyone who was on that train. california drivers are paying a lot less for gas than they were this time last year. the average price for a gallon of regular is down $1.15 since january 2014 but even at $2.44

californians are paying the highest average price outside of alaska and hawaii, can't see alaska or hawaii on this map but if you did it would be complete red, kind of like parts of california. the red in case you don't know average gallon about $2.50. a little above that. if you go to yellow it's $1.94 to $2 and then the dark greens, $1.60, something like colorado, i spent time there. any buffalo fans? so that gives you an idea of where the nation is again this week when it comes to gas prices. only seven other states are paying more than $2.16 a gallon. the cheapest gas in colorado as i mentioned, and oklahoma at $1.86 a gallon. while drivers are enjoying the savings some economists now worry lower gas prices will mean higher unemployment in the energy industry. the vice president of the dallas federal reserve says texas could lose 140,000 jobs if gas prices don't bounce back soon. the companies that look for new places to drill oil and operate

drilling rigs say their business is dropping off already. >> we have been running four rigs, most of 2014. we have already dropped one and gone to three. and we will be in the process in late february, early march and we'll go to two. >> economists say even though oil-related jobs are in danger lower oil prices have been good for the overall dme. the government reported last week that consumer spending, which is the largest component of the economy rose 4.3%. two million cars and trucks being recalled for potentially dangerous airbags. some of the vehicles have already been recalled once before. the concern is over airbags that could deploy inadvertently. some vehicles have been recalled once before but the government says the original repair only works 85% of the time. so about one million toyota and honda vehicles with airbags made by takata are being recalled again. the airbags can deploy with so

much force they can cause injury or death. the new recall covers vehicles from the 2002 through 2004 polled years. -- model years. january has come and gone. it was a nice month but not weatherwise. we could have used the rain. it was very dry. february is here, we've already got a change possible possibly later this week. >> changes today, no rain but we'll cool down some and we're seeing fog this morning as well. then the rain coming, hopefully by next weekend. we'll show you that in a moment. let's start with the fog, a live look, well, attempting to in to san francisco. can barely see the bay bridge from this point of view. so the fog is back in some areas. i'm seeing a little patchy and a little dense through areas like fairfield and vacaville. in fact sacrament and central valley have a dense fog advisory. for us, high clouds overhead, a little of that fog moving in.

to the north of us there's a little rain. we've got some -- weak system actually moving through the pacific northwest for today. this is actually helping to weaken the ridge of high pressure over our area. so for today, a mix of sun and clouds, high clouds in the forecast. and temperatures not as warm as we were yesterday. we can even pick up a little bit of moisture over areas here. no rain from this but temperatures will be coming down and that will be the story for sunday. let's track the possibility of rain. it's going to come next week and looks like by thursday it starts to change up could last into saturday. so for today, tomorrow, monday, tuesday and wednesday. those systems continue to ride over and through the pacific northwest but we remain dry. by thursday morning though it's a lot closer to the bay area. by thursday night it begins to shift in. friday looks to be wet. notice the southern exat the present time there, right there along the central bay, maybe around the golden gate bridge. we'll continue to track this. we're still several days out but by friday we have rain. saturday morning we could wake up with rain.

swastikas of the house are the jewish fraternity. the vandalism happened after the student government asked uc regents to divert money from businesses connected to israel. the uc davis chancellor called the vand limple "repugnant" and says the and won't be tolerated. it's designed to help people find the services they need. coming up at 7:45 -- the san francisco supervisor will be live in studio, talk about this year's homeless count and how it could affect the services being offered. >> and scientists say it's going to be a rough year for california's sea lions. we'll tell you why.

rescued they fell 500 feet. another man climbing nearby also fell. portland mountain rescue crew was doing training and was able to jibingly jump into action. two climbers were taken to the hospital. the third wasn't seriously hurt. the coast guard had to rescue five people from a sinking boat off the coast of monterey. it started 8:00 yesterday morning after the coast guard received the boat's distress call. a nearby tanker ship also responded and helped block seas and wind until rescuers arrived. the coast guard had to also launch two helicopters, one from san francisco, and the other from los angeles as we mentioned. none of the five people on board the 65-foot boat were hurt. another five people stranded off the coast of north carolina had to be rescued by the coast guard. it happened friday after the mast on the boat broke. this video shows coast guard helicopter hovering over the boat as rescue crews tried to save all those on board. luckily no one was hurt and crews were able to bring all five of the passengers back on

shore to safety. scientists say it could be a tough year for california sea lions. according to the marine mammal saturday in sausalito an alarming number of sick pups were found abandoned on beaches in january. but the pups aren't the only ones in trouble. 57 sea lions of all different ages were also found stranded. usually only one or two stranded sea lions are found in all of january. scientists say they are trying to figure out what is going on, could be an illness or something in the environment. the mystery surrounding body parts found in a suitcase in san francisco continues. we'll hear from one of the men who was detained by police and why he says he believes the man now under arrest booked on murder charges is innocent. >> cooler pattern settling in for your bay area sunday and this morning a lot chillier for some. an update on the current countries.

can show you, that one has a sign that says "we are on the move to mission bay." that is where the ambulances are headed. they are lined up outside the emergency room here of the hospital. we can't be right up at the emergency room now because not all the patients being transported this morning are willing and able to let us film them live as the transport happens but this morning we were there for the first of the 125 patients that were leaving the ucsf campus being leaded to get to the new hospital at mission bay. it takes weeks to plan this. they are picking up cancer patients, pediatric patients and maternity patients from the neothat thal intensive care unit at the hospital. each ambulance is specially equipped to meet their needs for the ride over. they depart every four minutes with many escorted by police. we talked to the ucsf ceo about

how this huge logistical operation is taking place. >> reporter: it's a huge number of people, obviously getting the families, and patients, and getting them ready and staff ready both here and mission bay. it's a big day, it's a big deal. >> reporter: at that new mission bay campus there's a lot of new technology, new amenities that they are really touting as $1.5 billion hospital that is in operation for the first day today, in it they are going to have things like medical robots, 25 of them that will be able to roam the hallways of the hospital, transporting and dispensing food and medication. patient rooms will come equipped with monitors and tablets so they can do things like view their own x-rays and test results from the comfort of their room. that is what all the patients who are being transported today will get to experience once they are at the new campus. once again here live you can see all the ambulances, there's

40 of them in this -- in rotation, getting ready, lining up outside the er to take some of the patients from the parna campus to the new hospital across the city. >> despite the move, the old campus will still remain open? >> yes. with the ceo explaining to us, is that they are moving these patients from three floors of the parnassus campus to the new hospital and the three floors will be repurposed for other services. they are not getting rid of jobs or services here. they are just expanding them by moving some of the patients to the other hospital. >> got it, thank you for that report. live in san francisco. scary moment for a man in santa rosa when he found what appeared to be a bomb as he landscaped his yard. it happened last night at the west oaks apartments. officers say it appears the package had been buried in the ground for some time. the bomb squad cleared the area for 50 minutes while they fired

water and ceramic rounds at the device. officers say it's unclear where the bomb may have come from. new information about the two men detained in connection to the body parts left in a san francisco suit street in a suitcase. an anonymous tip led police to 59-year-old mark andrews, that is him under a white sheet taken into custody friday night. he's now been booked into the county jail on suspicion of murder. the other person detained was his friend, a man named mark cheeber, police questioned him. >> i just met him like two years ago. he's a good friend -- and i believe he didn't do it. he was here -- at the same time they say that he was -- he was here. he didn't do it. >> authorities are still not able to identify the victim. the medical examiner though says he was a light-skinned

man. hundreds of people gathered to remember in east -- an east bay coach that inspired student athletes with his actions and his words. >> you guys love me? >> yes. >> we're a team. >> todd french, the football and lacrosse coach at san ramon valley high school died friday. four years ago doctors told him he had lung cancer even though he didn't smoke. during the past four years french never stopped coaching. tearful students say they will try to emulate the man who always seemed to know what to do and what to say. >> the way he spoke to people and how powerful his words were, he could say the same five words over and over again and i would be interested in hearing them again and again. >> french is survived by his wife michelle and sons austin and cole but at last night's public memorial everyone felt like part of his family. a public memorial will be held two weeks from today at san ramon valley high school.

support continues to pour in for the victims of a massive fire in the san francisco mission district. last wednesday's fire destroyed a three-story building, claimed the life of one resident and left more than 50 others without homes including 11 children. a fufned dreyser was held last night at dock's clock, a bar not far from the fire sight. one of the bartenders says it's a chance for everyone in the mission to give back to their community. >> handfuls of $20s, singles, all walks of life, rich, poor. punk, gay, straight, whatever. everybody has been donating beautifully. >> google promised to match dollar for dollar at the fundraiser. in addition several go fund me sites have been set up for fire victims. at last check the largest site is $70,000. president obama and republicans are headed for a showdown beginning for tomorrow. he will go to the homeland security department to unveil his trillion-dollar budget for next year. he will propose a $38 billion

increase for the pentagon. also wants nearly the same amount for domestic programs. on thursday president obama could draw the ire of china. he's invited the dalai lama to the annual white house prayer breakfast. beijing doesn't want the two men together since the dalai lama sim below zeros tibts's struggle for independence from china. president obama is going to attend a cybersecurity summit in the bay area february 13th. he will meet with leaders from industries including finances, technology and communications to talk about the growing cyberthet. president obama will also take part in at least one fund draisesser, a dinner is planned that night in san francisco. happening today -- it's one of the most scenic races in the country, the 32nd annual kaiser permanentay half- marathon begins at 8:00 this morning. everyone who finishes is going to get a commemorative medal which also doubles as a cool refrigerator magnet.

this week volunteers conducted what is called a homeless count in san francisco i know you were there thursday night. tell me about the process. we had video of you counting the homeless. what are you actually looking for and what are you doing? >> first, we have hundreds of volunteers from throughout the city of san francisco and frankly the bay area, and we do it every two years. it gives you a report of how we're doing and a road map forward. >> we don't get the report card until spring or summer? >> correct. >> how are we doing in san francisco? >> it's tough to tell. i'll say anecdotally the issue is becoming worse. we have people in our neighborhoods feeling the effects of it more than ever

before. part of the benefit of the economic boom we're having in san francisco is a lot of places such as downtown, all being redeveloped, new high rises coming up, great for jobs and so forth but also displacing, if you think about our homeless issue, displacing a ton of individuals and families that were living there before. so coming out to different parts of san francisco. >> it seems counterintuitive. when the economy was terrible people losing jobs, it made sense more people would be on the street but now that everyone's improving most people think it should be getting better if it's not getting better because the economy is improving, do we have more resources to address the problem? >> we do but i think what we're doing and what i spent a lot of time doing the last year and-a- half and taking a hard look at what we're doing and what we've been doing to date. is it working? not be afraid to challenge the status quo and say if the services or policies are not working, let's break the mold, let's do something different in san francisco because we want to have a real effect on the

streets. >> you talked about that. you talked about where to put the money. could you give me one example of what is not working where you're looking, ok, we're throwing money at this program and it's not -- it hasn't been good for us? here's maybe what we should try? >> the one thing that does work and we know it, every city knows it, san francisco knows it, it sounds trite but the best way to work on our homeless issue is to house the homeless. san francisco, as we think of housing now we have an affordsability crisis across our city, certainly affects the city's ability to provide enough housing for the homeless population. >> when you're talking to homeless, do you sense frustration? do you sense they are looking for services and not getting them? did they not know they were out there? what is the general consensus? >> i think -- no one is

created equal obviously and everyone has a different situation. some have mental illnesses, some are just down on their luck and if the right situation appeared could get a job and be part of society again. some quite frankly are never going to rejoin society if you will. we need to think about them from a government perspective, about providing long term care. everyone is different. but i will say that the more attention that we focus on the issue the better it is for the city of san francisco. if we talk about anecdotally or through numbers the situation getting worse, ignorance and putting our head in the sand is not an option. >> what is the progress report? what grade would you actually given the city now? >> a b right now. i think we're putting a renewed focus on the issue but in the aggregate i don't see our numbers getting better right now. we're focused on it, the board of supervisors, mayor, we're all pulling on the oar right now and i'm hopeful for what it is going to bring in the future. >> thank you for coming in. back to mike and rosemary,

talk about how our weather is shaping up today. >> north bay yesterday, one pocket, 80 degrees. >> santa rosa. >> fantastic. but a lot cooler today. >> we're cooling down. still going to be above average but temperatures are coming down and actually want to start by showing you some of the records that were broke -- well, the records that were set yesterday. new records, giving you a live look into san francisco and ever othe bay. let's go to the graphic. again records from yesterday. it slipped by but we're talking areas like napa as well as san rafael and kentfield, all setting records in the upper 70s. oakland 78 yesterday breaking a record. 73 in and around the airport. mid-70s in richmond. san jose tied a record at 71. so for today the ridge of high pressure is breaking down, we have systems that will ride through the pacific northwest not bringing rain but bringing high clouds you may have outside your door. the fog is back, the onshore breezes a little stronger. and because of it again our

campus. the medical center is now transferring about 120 combined patients from its main parnassus campus as well as it's mount zion facility. patients are being taken to the new ucsf medical center once mission bay near pier 54. the large facility is actually three hospitals including a children's hospital and cancer center. >> it's a huge number of people, obviously getting the ambulances but also the families, the patients, getting them all already and our staff ready both here and at mission bay so it's a big day, it's a big deal. >> the new mission bay medical center will have the world's largest fleet of mobile robe bottoms that are programmed to -- robots that are programmed to transport things such as meals and lab specimens. a fire that displaced two dozen people, it was yesterday near a building at alamo square

weeks ago. he said he did not assault her, said he kissed the woman. turner who voluntarily dropped out of school is free on $150,000 bail. the measles outbreak continues to spread across california and beyond. solano county health officials confirmed the first case there friday night. there are at least three confirmed cases in san mateo county and two more cases in morinne county involving siblings. officials believe those cases are connected to the december outbreak at disneyland. measles cases have now been confirmed in 14 states and mexico. >> i think most parents think measles is gone but it's forgotten but not gone. the outbreaks we're seeing so far this year are a remind they're measles is a plane ride away. >> the centers for disease control is advising parents to get their children vaccinated for measles at age 1 year and also going to need a second shot between ages of 4 and 6, health experts say anyone who thinks they have been exposed to measles should avoid going

another man climbing nearby also fell. fortunately the portland mountain rescue crew was actually doing some training on mount hood so they were able to quickly jump into action. two of the climbers had to be taken to the hospital. the third wasn't seriously hurt. scientists say kite be a tough year for california sea lions. according to the marine mammal center in sausalito an alarming number of sick pups were found abandoned on beaches in january but they are not the only ones in trouble. 67 sea lions of all different aimtion were also found stranded. only one otwo are usually found in all of january. scientists say kite be illness or something in the environment. there's another pretty incredible transformation. this is the first picture of jewel, what jewel looked like when found by a good samaritan as a stray on the streets of va lejo. so badly matted they didn't know if it was a boy or girl.

suitcase that was left on a san francisco street last wednesday. police first released still images of a person of interest. an anonymous tip led them to 59- year-old mark andrus. that is him under the white sheet. taken into custody on friday night. he has now been booked into the county jail on suspicion of murder. the other person who was detained was his friend, a man named mark keeber. police questioned him and released him. we caught up with him, who says andrus was with him last wednesday. >> i just met him like two years ago, he's a good friend. i believe he didn't do it. he was here wednesday, at the same time they say that -- he was here. he didn't do it. >> authorities have still not been able to identify the victim. the medical examiner can only say at this time he was a light- skinned man. hundreds of people gathered to remember an east bay coach who inspired his student athletes with his actions and

couple of days. time now 8:51. anger erupted during a tribute for a teenage the boy in santa rosa shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy. 13-year-old andy lopez was killed by deputy eric dillhouse in october of 2013. lopez was playing with a bb gun that looked like an ak-47. according to the press democrat yesterday supporters of lopez gathered to discuss a neighborhood park to be built on the shooting site. but activists interrupted several lawmakers when they got up to speak. the activists are angry that he was cleared of any wrongdoing. cars and trucks recalled for potentially dangerous airbags. some of the vehicles have already been recalled once before. the concern is over the airbags that could deploy indivertently. some of the vehicles have been recalled for this problem before but the government says the original repair work only works 85% of the time. so about a maltoyota and honda vehicles with airbags made by takata are being recalled

live look here at a pretty school shot, high clouds in san jose, most of us waking up with at least a few mid and high level clouds. that'll be the call for today. i want to take us back to one day wow was it a warm one yesterday. we set several records napa and san francisco at the airport all setting new records for today. i should say yesterday; 78 until oakland and 73 at the airport. but, we do have changes in store if you are outside this morning. you may have noticed we have got clouds again and numbers are not as warm as we get out the door this morning. the offshore breeze is gone. we have a system riding to the pacific northwest. a few showers, that should be about it. if i slide in closer picking up some moistures here near areas around here. again, it is not hitting the ground. a little bit of moistures out there. as we get to the next few days,
