both were membered of al-qaida and iraq which later became the islamic state. there were reports earlier today that additional executions could be carried out by jordan in response. >> like you ken, i watched the whole tape. and besides the fact that it was sickening to see. one of the things that struck me is how it was produced. very slick, slow motion, music, graphics. >> it was produced from beginning to end. at the end of that video, you saw the names and faces of other jordanian pilots who were involved in this operation oversyria. so clearly this video is also meant to be a warning. >> yeah, ken pritchett, thank you. more news now from overseas, in taiwan a plane has crashed into a river in the capital. 58 people were on board. at least eight are dead.

the fuselage wound up half submergeed in that river and rescuers rushed to get victims out of the plane. taiwaneese officials say 18 people were taken to the hospital. the plane had just taken off and was on its way to a small taiwaneese island. and now to breaking news from san francisco, where the man arrested friday night following the discovery of a dismembered body. prosecutors are saying there just wasn't enough evidence to hold him. paul chambers is live. >> reporter: mark andrus is a free man. hoe was just released a half hour ago from jail here. still the district attorney's office says this is an active investigation they will continue to follow up on. >> mr. andrus is very released that the district attorney decided not to file charges against him. >> reporter: for days, police

have said that mark andrus was the the suspect of a decapitated body found in a suitcase in the trash can. that all changed as the district attorney's office said it didn't have enough evidence to hold him. the d.a. released this statement. there's insufficient evidence to charge the suspect with murder. until we have the evidence necessary to prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt, we're ethically obligated to hold off on charging the suspect. andrus has asked for help. >> whatever evidence the police have had was presented to the district attorney. and so, you know we don't have any of the information they had. >> reporter: according to the d.a's office. part of the reason the case was dropped, is because the medical examiner has yet to find a cause of death. sources close to the investigation have confirmed to

ktvu that the coroner is trying to determine if the body is a missing friend of the suspect. jeff adachi drove his client away tonight. he said he wanted to make sure he had a place to stay and we're still waiting for word from if medical examiner on the cause of death and identity. >> paul chambers in san francisco, paul thank you. the alameda county sheriff's office has released a sketch of a man accused of molesting a child in the toy section of a dollar store. deputies say the assault happened on sunday inside the 99-cent store on mission boulevard in unincorporated hayward. the girl is only 8 years old. her mother was actually shopping in another aisle of the story when it happened. a striking sunset over the

bay this evening on another unseasonably warm winter day. but this dry pattern we've been seeing now for 40 days is about to change. take a look now at this satellite imagine from noa. it shows the wet weather headed our way. it's called an atmospheric river and it stretches to northern california. our chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking the rain. bill so far as the bay area it could get a lot of rain. >> if that satellite imagine and this satellite imagine looks familiar to you that's what we saw last month or the month before last in december had all that heavy rain. this is an atmospheric river. it's called a pineapple express. it's basically moisture coming from the hawaii island area. that low latitude stuff and working, focusing its way north. right now the jet stream would follow this line. about 2,000 miles of moisture and it's right now b lining for washington, oregon and northern california. but as we go into the next 24 to 48 hours this thing is going

to shift south. the jet stream. and this moisture will as well. so what that means is heavy rain certainly in the north bay but if we're fortunate and we very well could be because this forecast is still a long range forecast. these accumulations down here let's say san jose, san francisco 2-inches of rain over six days that could easily be increased if this 10-inch line drops about 60 miles south. that's kind of what we're hoping on. either way we're getting rain. we're going to get a good amount of rain but we could get great amounts of rain if that jet stream drops a little bit. we're going to talk about the long range model. we'll show you the opportunity that it gives you for the jet stream to dip down. we'll see you after the break. californians did a good job of saving water at the end of next year meeting the governor's 20% water conservation role for the first time. water use was down 22% statewide in december. some of the lowest numbers were

in major metropolitan areas. all the rain we got in december reduced the need for outdoor water and obviously we're still in a drought so everyone is still being asked to conserve. the gridlock at the port of oakland may get worse before it gets better. a trade group representing exporters of agricultural products is telling its members to brace for a possible port shutdown late this week or early next week. this comes amidst an eight month long dispute at west coast ports and the shipping lines that employ them. the shipping line says it is still negotiating with the longshoremen but the deadlines remain far apart on crucial issues. the long shore workers say it is -- police arrested a woman who they say was armed with a

gun. ktvu's cara liu talked to people on the scene about what led up to that deadly gunfire. >> i was a block away. down the street and i hear some gunshots. >> reporter: emeryville police confirm one of their officers shot and killed a woman near a storage facility in west oakland near the edge of emeryville. this man was caught in the gunfire. >> the the next thing i know, the windows were being blown out in my car. >> reporter: emeryville police say it started around 12:30 this afternoon when they were called to the east bay bridge shopping center regarding a combative shoplifting suspect. >> i just saw a lady, the bus was stopped behind best buy at the stop sign. she was running holder her purse and waving her hand. next thing i know i see a police lady chasing her. >> the caller reported that the suspect was armed with a gun. when officers arrived on scene, the suspect had fled on foot. our officers located the

suspect. >> an adult female is the suspect and we also will share with you as the sergeant said that a firearm was located at the scene. >> reporter: the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. police won't say yet whether she pointed or fired a weapon at them or how many of their officers opened fire. police say they're trying to review any cell phone and surveillance footage that may have captured the incident. also some emeryville officers do wear body cameras but so far the department has not shared whether the officers involved in today's shooting had them or not. in oakland, cara liu, ktvu fox 2 news. several dozen people gathered for a candlelight vigil where police shot and killed that woman. the vigil was initially peaceful but we have received word that someone has now vandalized the emeryville home depot store. there was also a shooting

today in antioch and it happened minutes before that shooting in emeryville. it happened at 12:30 this afternoon. deputies say they were on a domestic violence case on claudia court off of highway 4. the sheriff department says deputies were serving a restraining order and another order for him to move out of the apartment. the man charged at police and that's when an officer opened fire. the sheriff's department, the district attorney's office and the antioch police department are all investigating. one in 10 high school students say they have been physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend. the role this woman is playing to try to stop violence in teen relationships. and a big boost at san jose's b.a.r.t. project. what's helping to pus construction on the fast track. >> i'll be the first one to get on the train. >> night of special performance to commemorate its 100th anniversary. we'll take you all the way up

new at 10:00, a centennial celebration for a landmark on the uc berkeley campus. the campenili turns 100 years old this year. today tribute kicks off a full

year. the tribute included music and fireworks. people are celebrating the history of the campenili, amber lee has the story. >> reporter: we're right by the campenili and tonight, students past and present, staff and teachers came out to celebrate its presence. a special musical composition created for the 100th anniversary of the majestic campenili emanating from the clock tower some 300 plus feet tall. >> sort of like star bursts of notes coming at you. live music, from a piano like instrument up on the tower simulated with sounds of bells. a composition called natural

the campeneli. >> maybe the tower helps us come together and share a concern consciously. >> reporter: uc berkeley plans to host a celebratory event once every six weeks through the end of the year. >> 100 years old. it's a beautiful tower. amber, thank you. the damage estimate is in for that four alarm fire in san francisco last week. it's now believed that the fire caused $8.6 million in damage to that building on mission and 22nd. the exact cause of the fire is still not known. and today the building owner said his engineer has determined the building is no longer safe and therefor he is no longer allowing anyone inside. one man died in the fire and a number of people lost their homes. one of them was 13-year-old alejandro gonzalez. today we found him at city hall where the board of supervisors and fire chief gave him a commendation for his bravery during the fire. he told us the salvation army and red cross have been really helpful and that the clothes he

was wearing today are donated. he said everyone though he's grateful for the commendation, it's been a rough week. >> i try not to think about it. i try to go to school, soccer practice just to get my minds off of things. it's been a little bit hard but yeah we have fun at the shelter. >> alejandro managed to get out of the burning building by going down the fire escape. he was able to rescue his dog but unfortunately he could not save his pet rabbit. the long awaited b.a.r.t. extension to the south bay is staying on track thanks to money from washington, d.c. as ktvu's azenith smith reports, president obama's budget includes a financial boost for the mass transit extension. >> slow and steady is how the transportation authority describes work on the b.a.r.t. silican valley extension project that's now half way down. sky fox capturing construction throughout the south bay for the ten mile corridor. >> this effort is unprecedented because it's the first time an entity other than b.a.r.t. is building an extension of the

system. >> reporter: the extension begins in south fremont. then it'll stretch from alameda to santa clara. and then north san jose next to the flea market. vta is building this extension thanks to several donations. >> the money is really dispersed throughout seven years of this agreement. >> reporter: money that will lay down tracks, build grade separations and under ground trenches. the vta project was chosen for the expected 23,000 riders on opening day and the economic impact those riders will bring. >> the over all return on investment has been at the low side $4 and at the high side $10 for every dollar invested. >> it's been a long time and i

of fog for us. coastal fog. i suspect we'll see a little patchy fog. really just in a holding pattern. in the meantime it's more of the same. which means overnight lows in the mid-40s. 48 in vallejo. 49 in concord patically fog. coastal fog as well. and you are starting to feel it out there. these things are starting to turn around quickly. in san jose overnight lows will be in the 40s. lunchtime you're easily into the mid-60s. the day ends up in san jose a lot like it did today 72 degrees. as this weather system moves in it's going to be a warm system. even with the showers we're going to see temperatures that are going to be up there. daytime highs as we head into your bay area friday, saturday and sunday. here comes the system. the bay area starts on thursday. i'll time it out. right now it's going to be wet. how much is still in question. we know north will be wet.

a fiery collision between a commuter train and a jeep killed seven people tonight. north of new york city in west chester county. six people on the train and the driver of the jeep all died. at least a dozen other passengers on the train were injured. authorities said the jeep was stopped on the tracks when the crossing gates came down on top of it. the driver backed up then moved forward again on to the tracks. the metro north train was packed for the evening commute home. music mogul suge knight was

rushed to the hospital after pleading not guilty to murder charges. knight complained of chest pains in court. his attorney says he has a medical condition and has not had the right medication in jail. he is accused of killing two men. one of those men died. today knight pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder. he's the founder of death row records and if convicted he could face life in prison. tonight friends, family and fans are mourning the death of a bay area rapper who was shot to death last night. dominique movie was better nonas the -- better known in the community as jaka. >> to me it's not even real. it hasn 't even set in yet. >> reporter: we met with stanley cox better known as

when you hear about domestic abuse you may think about teenage relationships. you may not think about teenage relationships but according to the cdc10% of high school students report being physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend. >> heather holmes is live with the effort to try to stop all this violence, heather. >> reporter: the city council tonight declared february teen dating violence awareness and prevention month. earlier tonight i sat down with a group dedicated to helping teens their parents and educators spot dangerous dating behaviors before it's too late. roses, sweet treats, heart shaped balloons all signs of love. but with valentine's day approaching a warning to look

for signs of abuse in teenage dating. davis is with safe alternatives to violence. while she says domestic abuse within teenager is not understood, it's pervasive. she says the abuse appears to be increasing as more harassment and name calling takes place on the internet, by cell phone and text. >> if you can imagine you're getting a text at 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m. it's a really, really strong intimidation tactic. it's part of the isolation process that we see abusers doing to victims. all of you have? >> yeah. >> reporter: this group told me it's seen this type of behavior. >> they told each other things and they made each other inferior to each other. >> it was a situation at school where she was physically harmed

by her boyfriend. >> her boyfriend and girlfriends could be very controlling or very obsessive. >> we realize they're putting on an act and that behind closed doors unhealthy stuff was going on. >> reporter: the teens work with the group spreading the word to other students about mistaking jealousy with caring and about finding a happy, healthy relationship. >> reporter: experts say confusing possessiveness with love is another common mistake that can lead to dating violence. frank i read the cdcs investigation. but hearing from those young girls really put this problem in perspective. as you heard every single one of them knew of at least one person who was in an unhealthy relationship. >> yeah, as the father of two girlless. boy -- girls, boy that is something that really gets you to stop and think. city leaders voted unanimously to appeal their anti trust case to the u.s.

supreme court. less than 1% of cases actually make it to the nation's highest court. those laws are designed to ensure competition and san jose's argument is that it should be allowed to compete for the oakland a's. the problem is the san francisco giants have blocked the move claiming territorial rights to santa clara county. police in mountain view hope two new sketches will help them make an arrest on a deadly shooting at the shoreline amphitheater. police released two versions of the sketch of the shooter. one shows the suspect with hair on his head but no facial hair. the other sketch shows the suspect has no hair but large side burns. investigators say the suspect shot johnson of orinda while they were both at the backstage of whiz khalifa concert. the arch bishop of san francisco as issued new rules

general welcomed what's been called the greatest generation into her san francisco home. 10 american world war ii veterans received the french legion of honor. >> today we are celebrating 10 heros. >> reporter: the medal is the highest french recognition of service. a way to say merci, thank you. in any language 91-year-old sakai was a young man when the japanese bombed pearl harbor. suddenly america was at war. but when sakai went to enlist his friends his draft designation was based on how he looked. >> which is the designation for enemy alien. all of a sudden i was not an american anymore. >> reporter: two years later sakai volunteered in the 442nd

friends gathered tonight at the fremont hindu temple. they lit candles and said prayers for karen pabla. she was out jogging last week in san jose when two cars collided and she was pin against a pole. police say the drivers were going 70 miles per hour in a 40- mile an hour zone. tonight family members called for harsher punishments to prevent reckless driving. >> we need to do more. we need to ask for more strict laws for illegal street racing. >> reporter: ramos and esparza are charged with vehicle manslaughter. both are due back in court on march 9. the san mateo sheriff's office is looking for a man who exposed himself on a milbrae street last night. it happened on the 600 street

of camino real between 10:45 and 11:00 last night. this is the picture of the car he drove away in. a light colored four door sedan with a rear spoiler. authorities say the man exposed himself and committed a lewd act toward a woman who was waiting at a bus stop. a body found in lake merced last month was that of a light skinned woman. those new details were released today by the san francisco medical examiner's office. the body was pulled from the lake on january 10th. the woman's age and cause of death are still unknown. officials say it's been difficult to determine basic information given how long the body was in the water. >> fewer people committed suicide by jumping from the golden gate bridge last year. the bridge rail foundation tracks suicides on the golden gate and reported today that 38 people took their lives in 2014. that compares to 46 suicide in 2013 which was an all time high. the organization says authorities stepped up patrols last year and detained 161

people who were considered to be at risk. a $76 million plan has been approved for a suicide net. it should be completed in the year 2019. two state senators say they will introduce new legislation tomorrow to boost immunization in california schools. the legislation comes as the state is dealing with its worse measles outbreak in 20 years. the bill would either tighten or eliminate opt out clauses that allow parents to skip vaccinations because of religious or personal beliefs. here in the bay area there are sizable numbers of school kids who have not had their recommended vaccinations. wall street posted some big gains across the board today as the price of oil rebounded. the dow industrial average was up 305 points. the nasdaq was up 61 and the s & p500 was up 59. as to crude oil, the prices rose. the higher price points to a slow down in production.

as allie rasmus tells us now, they're able to do it online with the help of their parents. >> reporter: julie knows her biggest seller. >> probably thin mints. >> reporter: this 10-year-old girl scout from troop 367 has learned a few things about selling cookies. >> really good to be like really friendly and don't eat cookies while you are selling cookies. it's not a good idea. >> reporter: this year for the first time she and other girl scouts will be able to sell their cookies online. >> there's a little chart on the side that says how many of each box of cookies you want. >> reporter: the girl scouts of america created a specific website girls must use. girls can include a picture or video. >> i wrote about my cookie earnings. >> reporter: there are also safety protections in place. her mother uses her own e-mail to log in. >> i can check in and monitor what's happening on the site.

>> reporter: you won't find the site by googling. girls must e-mail the site so that they only invite people they and their parents know. >> reporter: lily and other girl scouts like her will still do door to door sales. the online site isn't supposed to change that. lily and the girls from school have already agreed to share their earnings. >> go white water rafting then camping with the money we make from cookie selling. >> reporter: she will start working toward that goal thursday morning one cookie and click at a time. >> it makes you feel really good to know that i worked hard for it. >> reporter: allie rasmus. we have rain in the forecast that's good news after an entire month, actually 40 days without rain in most areas. as we go into tomorrow. it'll be much like today. but the rain will come.

these are the highs from today. 68 napa. just warm. if i were to design the perfect weather system for this where we are right now in terms of a dry january. the ability to handle a lot of water absorbing into the ground this is the system i would design. straight out of the sub tropic. tons of moisture. multiple storms that will move through the bay area. thursday night late. you will see it here in a minute. then friday, saturday and sunday maybe a little into monday morning as well. right now we're struggling trying to figure out how far north is it going to be. how far south is it going to be? we will all get wet. san jose you may stay out of the rain until friday. it could be raining up in the north bay thursday night, friday. friday afternoon evening you may see showers in san jose. so it's kind of one of these things where it's a lot depending on how far north or how far south you are. tomorrow is going to be a mild day. friday everybody is wet. everybody in the south, but later on in the day.

evening then it will continue on into friday, saturday and sunday as it drops further south. it's great news. exactly what we need. not just a one shot deal but this is multiple impulses that will slide through with tons of, moisture available to it to really create the potential for some real rain already they have some flooding concerns up in northern sacramento river. they could see an inch in redding. for us we're still in the one to 2-inch range. >> bill, thank you. well a nature hike took on a whole new meaning for some cub scouts in southern california who found themselves walking along a nude beach. the group of fourth graders started off in la jolla north of san diego. they ended up in near by black beach. some parents that were in the hike, there was a parent who said the pack master knowingly walked them through the area.
