the rain is finally making its way across the bay area. a flash flood watch in effect as well adds a wind advisory across parts of bay area. we have team coverage as we track this storm with rosemary. she is monitoring conditions right now. >> at this point widespread,

wet and windy right now. we slide in a little bit closer. moderate to heavy showers. take a look. we'll start in the north bay. the largest areas reported more than 2 inches of rain. we have moderate rain falling. it shifts over the areas like saint helena. this rain will continue for the entire day. down into san bruno it is very widespread. this is along 101 and 280. this is near palo alto. we have more going on here across the east bay shoreline through san leandro. as we shift into areas near

lafayette you have moderate rain falling in your neighborhood. livermore light rain here. as we get into the south bay it eventually made its way into the south bay about inmarriage. over the santa cruz mountains we have rain here as well. in addition to the rain we have wind out there. the wind gusts any where from 20 to 30 miles per hour. oakland 37. as we get near sfo i saw a 40 miles per hour gust. it is now 43. i do expect the winds will be strongest this afternoon. as we get into evening hours it could be a little bit dangerous getting out the door and into evening. this wind advisory will last until tomorrow morning. showed you 43 a moment ago. the flash flood watch continuing over parts of the north bay. take it easy out there.

of people walking into a hardwood store. we are caught off guard with the rain. plenty of sand for sandbags. firefighters say so far a minor call of power lines was cooked to respond there. they say they are ready for the rain and wind this weekend and so should you. >> we tell residents if they have had their house or area susceptible of flooding or had flooding before to get sand early. we asked them to make sure they flashlights if the power goes out especially with wind and power outages. make sure they have enough food on hand and charge their cell phones and stuff like that. >> reporter: several businesses were also getting ready for the storm. forecasters predict several inches of rain throughout the weekend. for many since we are in a

he said it happened this morning at his workplace. that tree fell on someone else's car. that's not his car. here is another angle of that fallen tree. this is the kind of problem utility crews have been getting ready for over the past few days. our team coverage continues with mike right now. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: good afternoon. the wind right now ripping right through the golden gate. it has been more impressed with the wind so far than with the precipitation. that's from where i am standing again. it has been one of those dig your boots and hold on kind of day. a pretty choppy day. san francisco bay quite choppy this morning. as for the rain, it has been kind of off and on. we first heard the drops this

morning. it tapered off and started up a few hours ago. no big flooding that i have seen. we have seen pretty big puddles out there on city streets here and there. we were cruising around. we found crews trimming back trees and saw plenty of sandbags in one neighborhood. back in december residents said that creek popped all the way up flooding some of their yard. this time around not even close to what they saw two months ago. some disappointed and others say they are not. >> not at all. then again it hasn't even -- it just started raining. it could be worse ! am particularly disappointed because i know we need a lot more rain. the floods, they have flooded here three times and they are never been devastating yet. >> reporter: back live here, the wind and rain not stopping tourists from making their way up.

years old. investigators unveiled a new case. john sasaki joins us live. you just met with police. what did they tell you? >> reporter: they told us a lot but not enough to solve it. there is the victim. this is a case that tormented police. just after sunday on june 10th, 2001 a woman was shot and killed standing outside a club. she was maria shou. she was shot standing with family and friends. they have not been able to find any hard leads and the killing is still unsolved. >> if even this video doesn't

the southbound lanes on 880 for 3-miles before crashing head on with a pickup truck. the impact was so powerful chp says it tore the truck apart. >> upon the collision the cab of the truck -- it was a quad cab. the quad cab completely separated. it landed probably 10 to 15 feet in front of the chassis. >> the female died at the scene. the three men in the truck were rushed to the hospital with what doctors describe as serious and possibly life threatening injures. despite the rain it is still not enough for the state's drought. jerry is taking a try to boost the federal response to the conditions. golden state warriors get ready for a big match up. we'll tell you who told

police searching for at least four suspects in a home

invasion robbery. at least four masked men broke windows to get into a home about midnight. they demanded money from the victims. seven people including two children were home at the time. one person was tied up and two were assaulted. they found several plastic tubs of marijuana in the driveway but it's not clear who they belonged to. a man that has been found guilty of sexually assaulting immigrants while posing as a police officer. he was convicted of 17 felony counts yesterday. the security guard lured five men to his house. five pretending to be an officer. he would use a gun to intimidate the men. in some cases the victims were drugged before being assaulted. he faces live in prison. sentencing set for march 6th.

a silent vigil opposing the new morality clauses. dozens of teachers, students and staff gathered at saint mary's cathedral. most of them dressed in black. san francisco's archbishop, inid colludes new language opposing homo sexual relationships. the archbishop scheduled a press conference for 2:00 this afternoon. 29 west coast ports could be shut down by monday because of an ongoing labor dispute. they negotiate on behalf of terminal operators and workers slow down for a massive backlog of shipping containers. they say employers could start locking out longshoremen in the next 5 to 10 days if a contract is not reached. the union wants job guarantees

and more money. they accused it of making it worse in order to gain the upper hand in bargaining. the rain is not expect today bring much drought relief. financial help is on the way. governor brown met with u.s. secretary of the interior. they are spending $50 million. $29million will be coming to california to help it whatter districts and waters users. >> we are working very very hard to manage the water supplies that we have. that means using every tool to alleviate drought impacts

people on the peninsula may have experienced a little shaking after two earthquakes ratterred the re -- rattled the region. just after 7:00 this morning a 2.5 quake hit. no reports of damage or injuries. finally the bay area is getting a much needed soaking. we'll take you to the area where 1 to 2 to 3 inches already reported since this morning. you can see a very soggy one. as we talked about at the top of the hour it's a windy one also with wind gusts as high as 20 to 40 miles per hour. wind gusts will continue for the entire day. expect that wet weather to be whipping around the bay area. we have been waiting on this for some time. still waiting on it. take a look now.

very widespread. over parts of the north bay it's coming down. moderate to heavy pockets coming down. it is stretching along highway 101. it is in addition to the wet weather and the wind. we shift over along areas along the peninsula. here seeing some across the bay bridge. it is tough to get into the afternoon. we have moderate rains falling here. the east bay shoreline seeing pretty good rain. it is very widespread along highway 101 and 280. as we shift far then to the east it is over mount deablo. it is picking up into the central valley. into the south bay it finally arrived about an hour or two ago. we have widespread over san jose. it stretches into the mountains. this is the first wave of two.

i think we have the opportunity of seeing rain for the next two days. we will have breaks. i'll show you that in just a moment. let's take a look where we finally have rain falling here. this is a very warm system. we have been talking about it for days now. unfortunately the snow levels are going to be high with this, up above 7000 feet. i know we are very anxious. this is just the beginning. already reporting more than 3 inches of rain. santa rosa picked up half an inch. pet lieu ma 1 to 2. this is the first wave. it will move through tapering off tomorrow. the second wave moves through on sunday. we do have that flash flood watch that will continue and the wins are going to continue to gust as well. as we get into your afternoon here is the 5:00 drive. we have showers in the

forecast. it will continue into the evening hours. tomorrow morning we wake up with a few scattered showers. we will be mostly cloudy. it will be periods of off and on rain. it is saturday night, a few sprinkles in the forecast. there is sunday morning. round two moving our way. sunday looks wet. looks like we could be wet as we start monday morning as well. as far as rainfall 1 to 4 inches for our central bay area and 3 to 7 over the north bay. temperature wise for today widespread 60s in the forecast. we have been talking about this being a warm storm. it is 68 for san jose today. the extended forecast there the bay area weekend always in view. wind and rain for today. scattered showers for tomorrow. the next wave moves in on sunday. it looks like sunday will be a wet one as well. monday morning we wake up scattered showers and we finally begin to try it. >> okay. but boy do we need this. soaking in as much as we can.
