"mornings on 2" starts now. good morning to you. you are taking a live look outside. looks like we are getting a little bit of a break from the rain, but check out the clouds, this is not over yet. we've got more rain on the way, welcome to "mornings on 2". it is saturday, february 7th,

i'm claudine wall. the north bay is where i live. i had my gauge out, 3.25 inches. >> i did and i looked and i took a picture and i forgot the number. >> you took a picture and you forgot the number? >> i'm a rookie rain gauger. about an inch and a half. does that sound right? >> yeah that sounds about right. >> everybody got wet. mostly everybody had wind as well. >> i was surprised when i walked out it wasn't raining on me. i had my rain jacket. >> we are getting a break. exactly. >> we have a lull expected for today. not completely dry but a lot drier than we were yesterday. as we get into your afternoon a mix of sun and clouds. let's take a look outside our doors this morning where it is a gloomy start, sun on its way up and again, we'll have partly sunny skies for part of the day. but at this hour, most of us waking up mostly cloudy and picking up just a few scattered showers, we'll head to the south bay for areas near gilroy as well as morgan hill along

highway 101. may have some here falling still and over to the santa cruz mountains where we have light showers here. the winds have really calmed down. look at the breeze now, even calm reported in oakland and concord. fairfield reporting at 7 miles per hour. heyward 5. quite a difference from yesterday when the winds were gusting at 40 miles per hour and mount diablo reported 70 miles per hour yesterday afternoon. mostly cloudy a few scattered showers over here monterey and the santa cruz area. partly sunny to mostly cloudy. not a lot of sunshine, but we will have a little bit and notice not a lot of rain. a few scattered showers in the forecast today, as we roll into your evening hours. if you have evening plans we may see scattered showers a move through throughout the evening hours. we are looking at this for today. the next wave rolling in tomorrow and i'll track that for you, coming up. have a look at your

temperatures for the afternoon today. take a look at some of the rainfall totals from the last 24 hours. back to you. thanks rosemary. trees down, roads flood and some people left in the dark. >> it is the rain that we have been needing but it is also causing big problems across the bay area. areas of san rafael received more than 2 inches. 50 to 60 miles per hour wind gusts knocked out power to traffic signals and yes they did topple trees. >> a did you go lar first -- douglas fir fell right on to her house. >> strong gusts of wind. i heard banging around here. maybe some of the birch branches coming down first. >> homes and businesses had to deal with power outages.

cash registers ran on an emergency generator at this united market in san rafael. the store had to rely on dry ice to keep foods fresh. >> there were a couple of surges. it went off and then it came back on and then it went off. >> coming into a grocery store without power, it is a little weird right? >> i just read a survivalist book so it goes right along with it. >> everyone rolling with it. as you can see from these traffic lights, that outage actually ended up being traced to a runoff that had flooded an underground electrical vault no we just got off the phone with pg&e. many across the bay area don't have electricity across the area. power is out at 4500 homes and businesses in the north bay. san francisco and the peninsula combined 380 in the south bay and 170 in the east bay. at this point we don't know when the service is going to be back on. >> but they hope to restore

power within 24 hours from when the lights first we want out. a mother from bo diageo ga said she did what she could to keep herself and her children calm even though live wires charged with 12,000 volts of electricity were wrapped around their minivan. >> sophie martin and her young children were on their way to go bowling. but then power lines fell on top of their vehicle. martin stayed calm and resisted the urge to get out of the minivan. she learned a long time ago you have got to stay in your vehicle if it ever comes in contact with live wires. >> the wires started arcing and causing a fire in front of us. my children were freaking out a little bit worse. i called 911 to make sure they were coming. >> crews cut off the power and martin with his allowed to drive off. she then took her children, ages 4, 6 and 8, out for ice cream. well this latest storm, it

is good news. treacherous out there. skiers and snowboarders are waiting for this, especially since we didn't get any fresh snow last month. >> i want to show you i believe a live picture, there it is, from evan lea. nice and white this morning. strong winds and snow actually forced, the snow is expected to fall through monday. several inches have drawn people headed up to reno and tahoe last knightheaded to bumper to bumper traffic. chains were required for drivers. right now there are no chain requirements, but if you are planning on heading to the sierra this weekend, you want to make sure to carry those chains just in case. now even though there are just scattered showers out there, today s fo is already reporting flight disruptions. this is a live picture out there at the airport. telling us ten departing flights and 11 arrivals have already been canceled today. that is the lingering effect

shipping containers to stackups at west coast ports. it has taken a new turn. the shipping companies and terminal operators are telling dock workers stay at home this weekend, because they have shut down operations until monday. ktvu spoke to both sides and has the latest on negotiations. >> reporter: by 4:00 p.m. word had spread to truck drivers at the port of oakland waiting to load or unload shipping containers before the weekend shut down. the pacific maritime association, which represents 70 port terminal operators and cargo shipping companies says nothing will be moved off or on to any ships this weekend to the 29 ports on the west coast. >> just waiting all day in a line. don't make nothing. >> reporter: for thousands of truck drivers no loads this weekend means no pay. this driver who doesn't want his face shown says for him each trip means $500. >> when you don't work you

don't earn money you know. >> reporter: labor negotiations between pacific maritime and the international long shore union have been dragging on for nine months. 20,000 dock workers are accused of a deliberate slow down. >> if the union is going to work at 40, 50, 60% bele normal, then we really don't have a choice. >> reporter: the association's president issued a statement yesterday in a youtube video i don't these slowdowns are having the same result as a worker strike except that workers are getting a paycheck. >> reporter: the president says they have offered dock workers $160,000 a year. but a spokesman for the union says that number is inflated and that worker's pay is closer to $36 an hour or $75,000 a year. the union says the main sticking points are work rules, procedures and safety measures. >> this was a shocking development to have the companies close the ports done on the weekend in the middle of this congestion mess that's been affecting customers for the better part of 2014.

>> reporter: for customers caught in the middle it means yet another blow to their bottom line. >> i think there needs to be an intervention from the government, because this is destroying our economy. >> now a federal mediator has been at the table since last month. the work and negotiations are expected to resume on monday. the queen elizabeth cruise ship is back in san francisco, the 112-day strip started on january 10th. i can emergency a pretty impressive sight ali? >> reporter: an impressive experience in general all morning. we are on board the delta katherine tugboat out in san francisco day. bay. the stormy weather the sky is clear, not a drop of rain so far this morning. you can see the what you are on the bay is really still. we started our morning at 5:00, when we boarded this tugboat. we got a really unique, behind

the scenes view of the whole process. we were on the boat as it went out to the golden gate bridge and met up with this cruise liner. the queen liz beth cruise ship. let's slow you this video because this is a really pretty shot and video of the cruise liner as it was coming underneath the golden gate bridge. from a distance we could see some of the passengers who had gotten up early. they were snapping photos as they passed under the bay area landmark. this morning now you can see the queen elizabeth is now docked at pier 35. and we have with us stewart sharon, known as the cruise guy for your expertise in this line of travel work. what can you tell us about this ship in particular? >> it is a very special ship. i was in south hampton in 2010 when she was cristened by the queen. she holds 2068 passengers. on a 112-day world cruise.

absolutely a spectacular ship. people get excited because of the alliance the line has with the royal family here they are visiting in one of the most beautiful cities in the word. san francisco is fantastic, they are going to have a great experience and sailing under the golden gate bridge was priceless. >> reporter: the people will be exploring the city later on this afternoon. they are not the only ones. there is a princess cruise liner out here. it is going to be very busy out here later on this afternoon. you can expect thousands of people, for part of these two cruise liners coming out, enjoying san francisco. if you are into cruising, why is now a good time to kind of look for some deals? >> we are in the peak of the booking season. essentially by the end of march, 75% of all the cabins for 2015 will have been booked of the the cruise lines are offering some really fabulous deals, nice amenities. i tell people research online

scott reese ktvu channel 2 news. oakland a, fans will get a chance to meet their favorite players tomorrow. >> the fan fest runs from 10:00 tomorrow morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. weather should not be a problem because that event will be held at both the coliseum and inside the arena. fans and players will be able to do autographs and photos with the team's four trophies. admission $10. >> it is nice they have that option of going indoor. today giants i don't know. they do have some indoor stuff at the ballpark. >> sure. >> is it going to be wet out there? >> going to be foggy but it won't be too bad. today is definitely the better day to be outdoors. let's look at what is happening. want to start out with a nice view of bay point, where again we have breaks in the clouds and a nice sunrise for some this morning.

a few scattered showers will linger throughout today on and off, light and passing. sierra, north star reporting 10 inches of new snow, diamond peak reporting 8. yesterday actually dropped down to 6500 feet and created a little bit of problem along the passes, but it is back up this morning and will continue to see the scattered showers and high elevation snow there for today. as we get here home we have santa cruz across into areas like morgan hill and gill roy where the scattered showers continue to fall at this time. for most of us it is a dry start to the day. we will have this possibility as we move through your saturday, nothing like yesterday. and perhaps nothing like tomorrow. take a look at this. i'm going to run you through very quickly for saturday. we get into the afternoon, we get into the evening hours, we have plenty of cloud cover, partly cloudy skies for some of us and a few fits bits of moisture hanging around. the possibility of a few

scattered showers. we are back here live on ktvu. take a look at what is beginning to roll in. the next round on the way, in addition to wet weather. wind is expected to come back with it as well. very widespread, even pockets of moderate to heavy rain a possibility here. 1:00, begins to taper off just a little bit. i think we'll have scattered showers in the forecast the entire day and in reality looks like monday morning we could have a few scattered showers that linger. all good news. here's eye look at some of the numbers from the last 24 hours. san rafael 2 inches, oakland an inch and san francisco has picked up three quarters of an inch. could see another inch to three inches with tomorrow's system, so we'll take it. 59 degrees right now san francisco. 57 in walnut creek, relatively mild start to the day. take a look at what you can expect for fan fest this afternoon. low 60s in the forecast with partly sunny skies and maybe a few sprinkles passing by.

recovery crews in the taiwan plane crash have found the bodies of 40 victims.

three people -- bodies of 40 victims. there is speculation pilot error may have caused the crash. the lighten gin mal- functioned, officials say the pilots then turned off the left engine that was still working. investigators won't comment on whether the pilots followed proper procedures or why they would have turned off that left engine. meantime transasia has canceled 90 flights in the next three days to give proficiency tests to its pilots. the government of jordan is skeptical of a claim made by isis that one of jordan's air strikes killed an american hostage. isis posted online an air strike took out a building and claimed the life of 26-year-old kayla mueller. she is an aid worker from arizona taken hostage in sirria back in august of 2013. jordanian officials say isis has not provided any evidence to back up its claim she is dead. jordan has been launching terror strikes against the group ever since isis burned

alive a jordanian pilot. a candlelight vigil will be heldton for that pilot. the local arab community has been in mourning following the pilot's execution. 500 people are expected to attend at the group's headquarters on lyndon avenue in south san francisco. that ceremony begins at 7:00. thousands of people are expected to join a march for climate change in oakland today. the rally starts in downtown oakland and then the group moves along the lake. it is being organized by a broad coalition of more than 100 groups across the state and that event starts at 11:30 this morning. well fifty shades of gray fans are getting excited about the big screen but concern is growing for theater executives. >> like many other hit movies, people are being encouraged to show up to the film in costume.

welcome back. i'm claudine wong. we talked a lot about this weather, windy and miserable outside. >> i was in the head lands yesterday. holding on. 50, 60 miles per hour there. >> a lot of friends posted pictures of downed fences. looks much, much nicer right now. as you are looking outside our studios this morning. katy, we sent her out to survey the damage out there to make sure everyone is doing okay of the what are you seeing? >> reporter: we are seeing downed trees. it is muddy. fortunately no one was hurt. this downed tree is on top of the berkeley hills and a

massive monterey pine fell from two houses over. the property owner tells us he has the trees inspected and trimmed every year but the winds were so strong yesterday afternoon it completely uprooted the tree. >> the bulk of the rain dumped on the north bay clover day recorded 40 inches. 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts knocked out power to traffic signals and toppled trees. one resident felt a douglas fir fall on to her house. >> sitting there with a cup of tea and looking out the window thinking strong gusts of wind ask i heard some banging around outside here. maybe some of the birch branches were coming down first. then just crash. >> cleaning crews are expected to be out here around 9:00 to start chopping up that massive

tree behind us. while the people who live here stayed in a hotel overnight there is some roof damage hopefully that can be repaired today as well. mike and claudine the good news is there were power outages, downed trees and a bit of a mess but nobody was hurt. in fact today doesn't look too bad at all. winds have died down quite a bit and the rain has let up. giving you a live look there across the bay bridge. a little bit of fog. calm conditions reported in concord, oakland, just a light breeze, napa reporting 8 as well. the winds picking up a little bit for the afternoon, but shouldn't be too bad. heyward 5, san jose 3. when the next round of rain moves in tomorrow morning, the winds

will be back as well. let's look at a few scattered showers in and around santa cruz as well as gilroy. for today leaving the possibility of just a few passing showers and that will be about it. we'll have plenty of cloud cover out there and we will be mainly dry. along highway 101 expect wet roadways if you are going to be outside and about early on. the snow continues to fall over parts of the sierras. high elevation snow. you can see here from the futurecast model this is continuing here as well. dropped down to 6500 feet yesterday. that caused a bit of trouble for folks trying to get over the pass. by noon time not a lot of breaks in the cloud cover there. i think we will be partly cloudy to partly sun any and a few bits of moisture that continue to seep across the area. as we get into tomorrow morning the next round of rain comes our way. we'll have a look at some of the rainfall totals and what i expect from the next system

will be, coming up. a terrifying experience if a family in the santa cruz mountains. check out these pictures a tree fell and crushed the front end of the car. inside the car was a mother driving her two kids to school. no one was hurt and the driver of that car actually works for an insurance or worked in the insurance industry. nearby on highway 17, several cars spun out and bumped into each other as drivers did lose control on those wet roadways. several trees toppled over last night in san francisco. a 40-foot tree came down in the area of fell and broad hurts streets. a city crew ended up showing up and cutting up the trunk and branches. large trees toppled over near san francisco general hospital and at the police station in the richmond district. no one was hurt in either incident. firefighters are investigating a deadly fire at a mobile home park in san jose. it happened just before 2:00 this morning at a mobile home on moss hollow drive. firefighters say when they arrived they found the house

and carport surrounded by flames. once inside, firefighters say they found a bid. it is still unclear how the fire started. police remain baffled about the mysterious circumstances in the death of a teenaged girl. a garbage truck driver called 911 early wednesday morning to report he was the victim of a hit and run. now officers followed a trail of debris, which led them to a heavily damaged cadillac, half a mile away. its trunk was on fire and there was a body of a young woman outside the vehicle on the street. the coroner has now determined that the victim is a 14-year- old girl. >> a lot of stuff does not add up, and we recognize that and we are still actively trying to put the pieces together to figure out what happened, timeline. >> investigators are trying to determine how many people were inside that car. police were hoping nearby traffic cameras could provide answers, but we have learned they don't work and have not been replaced due to budget cuts. palo alto police are making

a renewed push to solve a 14- year-old cold case. 21-year-old maria seal was shot and killed on june 10th 2001. she was standing with family and friends outside a cafe at the time. so far there are no hard leads in the case. investigators have released new video with interviews with her family, hoping it will jog someone's memory about the case. >> even if this video doesn't reach the actual person that has that direct knowledge, this video may reach somebody who has secondhand or third hand information about what happened. >> a $100,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to the killer. investigators say someone hopped over a school fence three separate times during one six hour period and stole items that included a wheelbarrow, art supplies and emergency earthquake kits. in all the thieves got away with about $2000 worth of gear. it is a theft that shocked and

saddened teachers as well as parents. >> we were surprise today hear it went on for several hours, and no one sort of noticed anything peculiar. >> several of the items stolen were marked as property of marshall elementary. a neighbor of the school set up a go fund me page to replace some of the stolen items. more than 100 measles cases have been reported in the state of california, but the number of bay area cases actually remained at 13. health officials say the out break started in mid december when 39 people at disneyland in anaheim contracted the virus. 28 of the total cases include people who were in close contact with the disneyland visitors. but 36 of the cases have no known route of exposure. state health officials are recommending everyone to get vaccinated. the vaccine is more than 99% effective. the university of california is responding to the measles outbreak with a new policy. starting in 2017, it is going to require students to have

measles vaccinations. right now the uc system only requires hepatitis b vaccinations. some individual campuses do have other additional requirements. lotto fever hitting up across the bay area. the reason? tonight's powerball drawing is worth $380 million. the prize would rank as the seventh largest powerball jack potted ever. the game's record jack potted is $590.5 million prize won in florida in may of 2013. the last six-number winner was a single ticket in california on november 29th for $90 million of the last week someone in antioch bought a powerball ticket that matched five of the six numbers. san francisco general hospital is soon going to be receiving a $75 million donation from facebook founder mark zuckerberg and his wife, priscilla chan. it will be the largest single donation the hospital has received since opening in 1994.

turbo tax is back in business after a fraud related suspension on thursday. it shut down efiling capabilities for state taxes after being aware of filings that were fake. two people in minnesota logged on to turbo tax to file their state tax returns, only to find someone else had already filed a return using their identity. turbo tax says it has seen an increase in this type of fraudulent activity. thieves used stolen information to claim other people's tax refunds. >> you can always improve on your security. no matter how good it is some clever person out there can figure out how to circumvent it. >> one woman says this latest problem is just a reminder to

be extra careful. >> there is identity theft everywhere. you just have to keep track of your stuff and pro together yourself as best you can. i have been a victim of identity theft and still recovering from it. >> they said they are taking this issue very seriously and from the moment it emerged it has been all hands on deck. we are finding out. hackers gained access at anthem by using credentials of five employees they likely got through e-mail phishing scams. the hackers stole the personal information of 80 million customers. now anthem is warning current and former clients that someone is sending fake e-mail about how to deal with the attack. anthem says its system was first breached back in december. well women across the nation are going red to raise awareness about heart disease. next week there is a special fashion show in new york city and one of the dresses that

rosemary. it is a calm, quiet morning. if you didn't see this mess beside me you might not have known there was a storm last night. this massive monterey pine came down around 2:30 in the afternoon yesterday, when the winds were their highest in the berkeley hills. you can see where it landed on this rooftop, actually punched a hole in the roof of this house. the people who live here stayed in a motel overnight. if you follow the tree all the way to where it started, that is two houses over. the person who owns the property the tree fell from, tells me he has the trees inspected every year. this one was him and inspected and the winds were so high that it just completely uprooted it. now others braved the storm in the marin head lands and we saw high winds where people were determined, still to get a view of the golden gate bridge. >> it is beautiful. weather is weather. you just endure it, wear a

jacket. we are here in town, we are not going to miss it. >> reporter: the north bay took the brunt of yesterday's storm. san rafael got an inch and a half. 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts knocked down power to traffic signals and toppled trees. now we are back out here live. you can see the amount of limbs that are with this tree, it is going to take quite awhile to break it all down. i'm told tree trimming crews are expected to be here around 9:00 to begin that work. good news here though, nobody was injured as this tree came down and certainly came across three yards, so the potential for injury. but the homeowner says they are taking care of it. like i said the tree cleaning crews are going to be here around 9:00. hike and claudine a lot of mess and clean up to be done but it is rain we definitely needed. >> it is lucky no one was hurt. what a mess out there. a mother from bow diageo ga bay said she did what she could

hills this morning where a giant tree fell on three homes? >> reporter: well mike, it spans the distance of three yards. you can see how close it was to this home behind me. and here is the root ball. the winds were so high here, in the berkeley hills, that it completely uprooted this tree, that had actually been inspected. the homeowner says that he inspects the trees every year. this had been himmed so it wasn't top heavy, but the ground so saturated, it just kind of store and snapped. it goes across all the three yards and ends up, where if you were with us in the last half hour, where i was standing before is the backyard where the tree landed and actually hit the roof of that house, and punched a hole into that roof. those people stayed at a hoe toll overnight, so that the repairs could be made. there were some leaks through because it did punch through

the roof. pretty scary. fortunately, besides the one house it missed the house and landed in the yard it came from. we spoke to the lady who lives here. >> i was pretty shocked. simply because i was just outside with the dogs. so you know, i think we are really, really lucky. >> reporter: and she described for us those winds as kind of just strange sounding, almost as if it was coming through a wind tum. the north bay took the brunt of yesterday's storm. clover dale recorded 4 inches of rain yesterday san rafael got an inch and a half and they also saw high winds. 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts knocked out power to traffic signals and toppled trees. if you come back out here live, i want to give you another shot of the mess that is going to need to be cleaned up today. i'm told the tree service is probably coming around 9:00, so we have a little bit of a lull between the stores. actually some sunshine, so it is a beautiful morning. if you didn't see all this

damage, you would hardly realize that there was a storm in the bay area, based on the nice weather that we are experiencing. but should hopefully be enough time for them to clean it all up. i'm told the homeowners insurance will take care of that roof line but certainly a scary situation out here. everybody is thankful nobody was hurt but a big clean up effort underway in berkeley. ktvu fox 2 news. clean up crews there and pg&e crews out as well. they report more than 6000 customers are waking up without power this morning. high winds toppled trees and downed power lines. it was a frightening experience for a family in the santa cruz mountains. check out that picture. a tree fell and crushed the front end of the car, inside that car was a mother, who was driving her kids to school at the time. they are all okay. now nearby, on highway 17, several cars also spun out or bumped into each other as drivers lost control on the wet

roadway. several trees toppled over in san francisco. a 40-foot tree fell and ended up blocking two lanes of traffic on roderick street. large trees toppled over near san francisco general hospital and at the police station in the richmond district. fortunately no one was hurt in the incident. police remain baffled about the mysterious circumstances in the death of a teenage girl. a garbage truck driver called 911 early wednesday morning to report he was the victim of a hit and run. officers followed a trail of debris, which led them to a heavily damaged cadillac just about a mile and a half away. its trunk was on fire and there was a body of a young woman outside the vehicle on the street. the coroner has not determined that the victim or has now determined that that victim is a 14-year-old girl and a lot of stuff does not add up and we recognize that and we are still actively trying to put the pieces together to figure out

what happened, time lines. >> and investigators also say they are still trying to determine how many people were in that car. police were hoping that nearby traffic cameras could provide some answers, we have learned they don't work and have not been replaced due to budget cuts. a new push to try to solve a 14-year-old cold case. 21-year-old maria show was shot and killed out a cafe on june 10, 2001. she was standing with family and friends at the time but so far there are no hard leads in the case. investigators have released a new interview with interviews of her family hoping it will jog someone's memories. >> even if it does not reach someone who has direct knowledge this video may reach someone who has secondhand or third hand information. >> a $100,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the killer.

someone hopped over a school fence three separate times during a six hour period. they stole items include august wheelbarrow, art supplies, and emergency earthquake kits. in all the thief got away with about $2000 worth of gear i can't we were surprised it went on for several hours and no one sort of noticed anything peculiar. >> several of the items stolen were marked as property of marshall elementary. a neighbor of the school has set up a go fund me page to replace some of those stolen items. san francisco general hospital will soon be receiving a $75 million donation from facebook founder mark zuckerberg and his wife dr. priscilla chan. it will be the largest single donation the hospital has received since opening in 1994. the money is going to go toward building a world class acute care and hospital facility.

the queen elizabeth cruise ship is back in the city by the bay. >> yes, it is and it started an 112-day trip around the world. >> ali is on the ship right now and tells us this is actually the third time she has come into the city. >> reporter: she has been to the city before and this is the second time this ship has been docked overnight in san francisco. so instead of just coming for the day and leaving at 5:00, the people on board will get to experience some of san francisco's wonderful night life. we are standing on the sports deck of the queen elizabeth, and right next to us they have this life size chess set up out here. a lot of stuff to keep the passengers entertained. as you can imagine 112-day cruise a lost days you are out at sea and people need to be entertained on the ship. we have a great view, looking at telegraph hill over there.

the change in a lot of world circumstances, including demand and increasing ships. there are more ships going to more places in the world now, and 2014 was the record number of ships going to cities like ours. so we have been very fortunate to see a very strong increase in our cruise business. >> the average is about 80 culls a year for these cruise ships that come to san francisco. at any given time about 2,000 to 3000 people. >> there can be 2500 on the ship you saw the star princess. plus another thousand to 1500. each time a ship comes in we are welcoming that number of people, it is a great way to see san francisco. >> thanks monique, it is a great economic impact to the city. the economic impact every time these cruise ships come in is about $60 million for san francisco alone. passengers coming off the ship, shopping, buying, going to

city. as you get into areas along palo alto, sunnyvale, campbell, san jose, light scattered showers that continue to follow over the santa cruz mountains as well. we are sort of in between systems as this one pushes out and the next one gets ready to move in in time for your sunday. also looking at some scattered shower activity over areas of the sierra, had some snowfall all the way down about 6500 feet yesterday, a little lower than expected but those levels are back up. the good news is 10 inches reported in areas like north star, 9 inches reported at kirkwood with more to come. temperature-wise upper 50s to low 60s outside right now. not too bad, especially if you have sunshine out there. for the afternoon a lot of 60s, mid to upper 60s if you're going to be in the south bay. 68 san jose, 64 in oakland, 64 if you're going to fan fest, partly sunny skies and just the slight possibility of a few scattered showers. a massive tree fell on top three homes in the east bay. katie utehs is live in the

berkeley hills with a look at the damage. an amazing sight, katie. >> reporter: the roof of this tree no match for mother nature with the soggy ground and the high winds in the berkeley hills, homeowners tell me the winds sounded very strange yesterday like it was coming through a wind tunnel. it was enough around 2:30 in the afternoon to knock over this massive monterey pine. it felt distance of three backyards. as you can see the top of the tree punched through the roof of that house. fortunately no one was injured at the time. nobody was home at the time that it crashed through the roof, and there was some damage to the backyard, some backyard items, but nobody injured. we spoke with the homeowner who owns this tree, and he says that it was actually inspected this year. the top of the limbs had been trimmed so he did everything right but still no match for

that's the lingering effects from yesterday's disruptions in which there were more than 400 delays and some 180 cancellations. stay with the weather team all weekend long. you'll find all the information you need about the storm on air and online including twitter and facebook. the labor dispute at the port of oakland now, it is causing some containers -- these are happening at west coast ports. it has taken a turn. the shipping companies and terminal operators are telling the dock workers stay at home this weekend. they have shut down the operations until monday. jana katsuyama spoke with both sides and has the latest on negotiations. >> by 4 p.m. word had spread to truckdrivers at the port of oakland waiting to load or unload shipping containers before the weekend shutdown. the pacific maritime association which represents 70 port terminal operators and cargo shipping companies says nothing will be moved off or on to any ships this weekend at the 29 ports on the west coast.

inside. we are standing in the lobby of the queen elizabeth. the grand lobby as it's called, and it does look pretty grand. it's three stories tall. this ship is only five years old, but you can see all the decor and everything here is done in the art deco style to make it look even more majestic. this is a massive ship. there's 2,000 passengers on board. they are in the middle of 112 day cruise around the world, and this location where we are is kind of the central hub of the ship. this is where they have lounges, bars and restaurants. there's even a library down here on one of the floors. now, it's been an interesting morning for us getting on to this ship. we started our day at 5:00. we took a tug boat out on to the bay, and we met this ship. we saw the ship as this was passing under the golden gate bridge. we have some video i will show you well before the sun came up. it was a completely clear night. you can see the moon and in the distance you can see some flashing lights from on board the queen elizabeth. those we're told are the

time picking up on that rain i showed you a moment ago. we have to take this with a grain of salt. we know there's going to be a lot of cloud cover. we know there's going to be a lot of moisture, and to pinpoint where those showers are going to pop up for today, very very difficult. i will say that we are looking at scattered showers that will continue. they'll be on and off. as we move into the 9:00 hour, the moisture's still with us, and now we have the next system beginning to move in sunday morning, and we wake up with scattered showers. but look what's behind it, light to moderate to heavy rain a possibility by about 10:00. i think the morning hours is when we'll see the very widespread sort of steady rain move through. by about 12:00 it begins to push off a little bit. we have some breaks back here, and then for the afternoon we have scattered showers in the forecast once again. that's what's in store for your sunday. first part will be that steady rain, second part will be scattered showers, and the wind is expected to come back as well. as far as rainfall amounts we could see anywhere from 1 to 2 inches over parts of the central bay, 3 inches for areas along the coastal hills as well

if we get in real close we've got rain falling in and around the airport. looks like at&t park is still dry, but highway 101, 280 from south san francisco down the peninsula, it's a wet one. palo alto, los altos hills, sunnyvale and cupertino, shifting over a little bit, light rain, drizzle falling over hayward and fremont crossing over the san mateo bridge and dun par issue dunbar ton. the winds will be a little breezy in the afternoon, nothing like what we saw yesterday, but we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies, and that moisture just going to hang on just enough to bring us the partly to mostly cloudy skies. as we get into the evening hours still the moisture there and look what is offshore. the next round of rain that will bring us not only widespread rain by tomorrow morning but the possibility of wind once again. so the national weather service is considering another wind advisory. not just yet, but we'll be tracking that for you. 63 degrees right now outside walnut creek. 61 in san francisco, 60 degrees

they start getting into the trunk of this long tree. it poked through the rooftop of this house and actually spans the length of three backyards. it was so windy and wet here in the berkeley hills yesterday afternoon that the root ball, the entire root system fell with the tree, and homeowner here tells me they have these trees inspected every year. this one had even been trimmed so it wasn't top heavy but it was no match for mother nature. the woman who lives in the home where the tree fell from the backyard, she tells me the wind was very eerie yesterday but she didn't hear the tree fall because she was vacuuming when it came down. >> i was pretty shocked simply because i was just outside with the dogs, so, you know, i think we're really really lucky because the dogs and i were just outside. >> reporter: north bay took the

brunt of yesterday's storm as well, culverdale reported 4 inches of rain while san rafael got 2 1/2 inches or so. there were 50 to 60 miles per hour gusts which knocked out power to traffic signals and toppled trees in the north bay and back out here live, you can see that crews are going to be busy all day clearing trees here in the berkeley hills, and just goes to show you that you can really take care of your property and have the trees expected, but when we get these heavy rains and high winds when the ground hasn't been saturated for a while, it really makes these trees vulnerable. the good news here that nobody was injured. people were outside moments before but they were in their homes when it came down, and so we're going to send it back to you guys. we're live in berkeley, katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. >> copy that. all right. thank you very much for that report. appreciate it. firefighters are investigating a deadly fire at a mobile home park in san jose. it happened before 2:00 at a mobile home on moss hollow

drive. when firefighters arrived they found the house and carport surrounded by flames. it took about 30 minutes to knock down that fire. once inside firefighters say they did find a body. it is unclear how that fire started. palo alto police are making a renewed push to try and solve a 14-year-old cold case. 21-year-old maria sheow was shot and killed outside the q cafe on june 10th, 2001. she was standing with family and friends at the time, but so far there are no hard leads in this case. investigators have released a new video with interviews with her family hoping it will jog someone's memory about that case. >> even if this video doesn't reach the actual person that has that direct knowledge, this video may reach somebody who has secondhand or third hand information about what happened. >> a $100,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to the killer. more than 100 measles cases have now been reported in the

state of california, but that number of bay area cases it's remained at 13. health officials say the outbreak started in mid- december when 39 people at disney land in anaheim contracted the virus. it appears 28 of the total cases include people who were in close contact with disney land visitors. but 36 of those cases have no known route of exposure. state health officials are recommending everyone get vaccinated. they say the vaccine is more than 99% effective. the university of california is responding to the measles outbreak with a new policy. starting in 2017 it's going to require students to have measles vaccinations. right now the uc system only requires hepatitis b vaccinations. some individual campuses, though, do have other additional requirements. women across the country are wrapping themselves in red to raise awareness about heart disease. next week there is going to be a special fashion show in new york city to help raise awareness. one of the dresses that will be

the peninsula up and down along highway 101 to 80, wood side, palo alto, sunnyvale and stretching into santa clara, milpitas, a few light showers outside your door. virginia city, oakland, 580 along 880 and crossing into areas like livermore, san ramon along 680. for today in and out of sun and clouds. we're sort of in between systems. we have a lot of moisture in place, and we will have that moisture continue to stream overhead and that's going to trigger those scattered showers for today. as we get into the evening hours we're mostly cloudy. you can see little bits of moisture. the models have a really hard time picking up on exactly where these scattered showers are going to develop and fall. take it with a grain of salt and know that the possibility is there if you have outdoor plans. this is round number 2. we've been talking about two storms for several days now. this is number 2 beginning to move ashore on sunday morning. looks like we start out with light showers. then it intensifies as we get into 9, 10, 11:00. at noontime widespread, if you have plans for your lunch hour

on sunday expect that keeping in mind that this could actually move up or back just a little bit as we get into the next 12 to 24 hours, and then we're left with scattered showers for the afternoon. as far as rainfall totals, another 1 to 3 inches expected. the winds are expected to come back as well with wind gusts at 45. temperatures in the low 60s. mid to upper 60s for the afternoon. in addition to a little bit of rain out there, we may see thunderstorm or two for sunday, and then we're drying out by monday afternoon. we're going to take a break. we'll be back in just a couple minutes.
