arrested in connection with the dismembered body found in a suit case has died. ktvu's christien kafton is live with details. >> law enforcement source confirmed for ktvu that he checked himself into a http://yesterday and died -- into a hospital and died last night. he was arrested after police release photo in connection with a body found in a suit case found in san francisco. at this point there is no word on why he checked himself into a hospital or why he died. we managed to catch up with a friend of his who defended him after his arrest. he met up with him on friday and had no idea the next day his friend would be dead. >> he came over and -- he asked -- he told me he was on the

street. i went back up home and gave him a sleeping bag and water and a sandwich. >> reporter: a public defender heard media accounts that he died and said he was a good person, i am sorry to learn of his passing. he picked him up from jail when the district attorney declined to prosecute because of a lack of evidence. it is not clear how this will effect the investigation. police are still trying to work to identify the body found in the suit case and no word on any other suspects. >> all right. a big development in records to the case. thank you. another wet and windy day all over the bay area today. we want to show you interstate 580 in oakland this morning. steady rain. break lights out there. drivers try navigate the stormy weather. we have team coverage. ktvu's cristina rendon is covering the roads, noelle

walker is watching the winds. we begin with meteorologist mark tamayo with the rain totals. >> starting to add up across the bay area. when you factor in the system friday, and the second one today. right now we have breaks in the clouds towards san francisco bay. cloudy skies. that bright light showing up this afternoon with breaks in the clouds. as far as rainfall totals. we will look at those for you right now. adding up. napa one inch. ben lomond 2 inches. san jose .34. and there is a chance of scattered showers in the evening forecast and into monday. over the past three days. look at the numbers. lake sonoma 7 inches of rain. santa rosa 4 inches. kentfield 3 inches and san francisco inch and a half. here is the storm system, the second one we have been tracking. there is the circulation off shore. the active weather is to the

on roads. ktvu's cristina rendon is tracking road conditions and joins us now. >> reporter: the north bay, the south bay, the peninsula, the east bay, officers have been responding to traffic related -- rain related accidents rather across the bay area. they are reminding drivers to take it slow. >> reporter: rain made for a messy travel day in the bay area. >> a two wheel drive car. i am staying off the freeways. >> reporter: cars go through flooded areas and on highway one these drivers slammed on the breaks to avoid a collision. many others weren't so lucky. >> when it rains we see twice as many. >> reporter: this driver walked away after crashing on highway 24. slick roads, high speeds and

low visibility contributed to pneumerate accidents -- numerous accidents. >> been a mess out here. everybody needs to slow down. 2-3 accidents per hour. >> i worry about that. [ indiscernible ] >> my car spins. after that i -- you know, just carefully drive. >> the best way to avoid hydroplaning is reducing speed. >> it is a big issue. especially in the rain. especially since we haven't had rain in a while. >> reporter: drivers know slowing down is the best way to avoid the crash. even if it means taking longer to get to their destination. >> please don't drive 80 miles per hour. >> reporter: if you are driving in the rain tonight or tomorrow, chp wants to let people to know to turn on headlights when their windshields are on.

stay dry without flowing away. >> reporter: wind gusts around san francisco international airport topped 45 miles per hour. about 50 flights in and out of sfo were canceled. others delayed. >> coming in it was pretty rough. we hit turbulence and i feel liquated get rerouted -- like we had to get rerouted. . >> reporter: windy enough to snap trees that stood up to bouts with wind until now. a blast of mother nature indeed. >> makes you feel alive. if you look closely a sign of the dance between storms and sun. >> makes you feel like you are a small part of this whole scheme of things. >> that rainbow to show there

is always a silver lining. the guy up there he is here to finish chopping this tree down. no one was hurt. the woman who was in the room when this happened said she feels lucky. >> bet she does. huge tree that came down there. thank you. stay with ktvu fox 2 news all weekend to find information about the storm on air and online and facebook and twitter. a fuel truck closed down the roads and spilled thousands of gallons of gasoline around 8:15 a.m. this morning. crews have been on scene all day. firefighters on the scene said the truck was carrying 8800 gallon of fuel and 3,000 gallons leaked out -- gallons of fuel and 3,000 gallons

leaked out. . >> good news is because it is raining so much it will be diluted by the time it gets anywhere. >> the driver suffered only minor injuries in the accident. it is not clear at this point what lead to the accident. if it was the weather or not. they hope to have the road opened around 6:30 p.m. police say a alert led officers to the scene of a fatal shooting about 3:20 a.m. this morning on east 12 street in oakland. they found a man who was shot at least once. he was pronounced dead at the scene. there is no word on suspects. the shots spotter system involves microphones that pick up the phone of gunfire and pinpoint the location. it is in oakland and other bay area communities. flames lit the skies over oakland and officials are calling the fire suspicious. it started before 5:00 a.m.

this morning near 16th avenue and east 20th street. the fire displaced 14 people. took firefighters 20 minutes to control the fire that caused $250,000 in damage. two alarm fire damaged a daycare center last night. it was reported after 10:30 p.m. at the children's learning center. firefighters had this fire under control in 30 minutes but it spread quickly and it melted a power line. no one was injured. firefighters are looking for the cause. president obama is heading back to the bay area where he plans to go and the issues he plans to address. >> and bill cosby cancels a show in boston as another accuser comes forward. >> the day fans have been waiting for. the sights and sounds of a's fan test 2015.

president obama is set to return to the bay area this week. president obama is set to arrive in san francisco thursday and take part in a cyber security summit friday. focused on government and private companies working together protect consumers and businesses from cyber threatss -- cyber threatss -- threats. friday night he plans to speak in san francisco. authorities in southern california will likely ask to look at bruce jenner's cell phone records as they investigate a deadly crash. he was in a car crash yesterday along the pacific coast highway. investigators say they want to look at the phone records of everyone involved to see if someone was using the phone in the crash. pawoman was kill -- a woman was

killed. bill cosby canceled too shows in boston tonight before new accusations today. she says she appeared on the cosby show in 1987 and was called back for another interview. but ended up with a drink and his groin in her face. he faces sexual assault accusations by 15 woman. he said the performs were canceled because of a snowstorm. fans got a chance to meet and greet fans at fan fest this morning indoors that coliseum. there was time for autographs and shatting as players -- chatting as players get ready for spring training. they got personal time with their hero. >> like looking in the mirror.

three people hospitalized last night in san francisco while hit by cars. police say it started when two cars collided about 8:00 p.m. after the crash one of the vehicles rolled into the crosswalk and struck the pedestrians. the victims were taken to the hospital. one suffered life threatening injuries. the drivers were not hurt. police are releasing a sketch of a man who sexual assaulted a 10-year-old boy. the suspect is a between 4-50 -- 40 and 50 years old. 5'7". slim build. he was wearing a brown jacket and brown pants. it happened on january 27. there is less than a week left to sign up for healthcare or face penalties. the last day is sunday february 15. if you don't enroll the penalty
