to expedite the testing on the body was the case garnered so much attention and investigators want to close it. >> david stevenson in san francisco, thank you. people across the bay area are cleaning up from the storms. we have seen downed trees, damaged homes and falling power lines. we have team coverage, noelle walker and our chief meteorologist bill martin. how much rain did we get? >> we got plenty of rain. north bay and coastal hills. friday, saturday and sunday and into this morning. some of the totals friday through monday, these are numbers i grabbed from areas. over four inches of rain. and the coastal hills, russian river area, 8 inches of rain. check out ben lomond six inches of rain. fremont two inches.

talking about. trimming -- we were talking about. trimming the trees and thinning it out could help. if the tree falls on a structure, insurance may pick up some of the cost. if not, the cost is on you. >> thank you for that help. a "v" in the tree could be trouble. shelter in place has been lifted where a trie knocked -- tree knocked down power poles about 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. police told residents in the area to stay inside and close doors and windows. 15 people were effected. the lines were deactivated. 30 customers are still out power. highway 9 will reopen at any moment following a large mudslide. both lanes of highway 9 at 236 has been shut down for much of the day. here is a look at the dirt and debris that came down on the

road. they also fixed downed lines. lanes on highway 9 is expected to open anytime now. a woman is lucky to be alive after a train slammed into her suv this afternoon. check out these pictures the police department released. it happened about 1:00 p.m. this afternoon on harbor way and wright avenue. sky fox brought us these pictures. there are no flashing lights or signals to warn drivers of a train. a witness said the train operator was sounding the horn. the suv was pushed 75-100 feet before coming to a stop and she only suffered minor injuries. to the latest on the port troubles. not a single container ship was loaded or unloaded this week at all 29 west coast ports, making a bad situation worse. ktvu's tom vacar has been on the story for week. he talked with two people tied

up in what many consider a monumental mess. >> reporter: america's supplier of natural cork. they were desperate to get any of its 17 containers holding 30 million corks. >> enormous back log. >> reporter: he says since friday he received 3 containers. that is less than 1/6 of what he needs but enough to present layoffs for a few days. >> they are delayed since december. they are product that arrived in december and we are still waiting for. >> with the season underway, this warehouse should be loaded with corks. more than 15 million of them. it is empty because the containers haven't arrived. >> anything leaving the factory was to go to an alternate port.

union. state regulators announced a new plan to protect water supplies from waste water. this should bring the state back into compliance. last week we reported they authorized oil field operators to inject waste water into protected aquifers 2500 times and the state admits some mistakes were made. in one case they used a map from 1875 to check the boundaries. he says california will make some long over due changes. firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a wildfire in the sierra nevada. tonight the communities remain evacuated but they could be allowed to return this evening. the fire started four days ago and destroyed 40 homes, damage said 5 others and charred 7,000 acres. flames were fanned by strong

$160,000 has been raised for the victims of the fire in san francisco's mission district and the campaign to help ends today. the fire broke out two weeks ago. the fire killed one man and forced 60 people from their homes. also 18 small businesses were forced out by the fire. a neighbor set up the account on go fund me. he tells us 2,000 people donated. >> amaze thing. people from all walks of life. construction workers. it is garbage -- everyone has been donating. $5. $10. $20. it is adding up. complete community effort. >> if you would like to help we set up a link. you will find it on our website www.ktvu.com. gay couples are celebrating in alabama as same-sex marriages move forward but the

battle isn't over. the supreme court cleared the way for weddings. that makes alabama the 37 state to allow same-sex marriages. already a number of gay marriages have taken place. >> tomorrow if something were to happen we are protected under the law. >> a majority of counties are refusing to issue marriage licenses. what happens next will be decided in the courts. several lawsuits are in the works. the snow keeps piling up in the northeast and conditions aren't expected to get better soon. an update from boston where the mayor says it has been the snowiest month on record since 1978. >> reporter: another wintery mess for people in boston. streets clogged with snow. piles lining the road. this is the third big winter storm to hit the northeast in

two weeks. >> just getting tired of it. yesterday we had do it. 2-3 times a day for every storm. . >> reporter: 1-2 feet of snow expected in the boston area. schools closed through tuesday but public transportation is running with delays and cancellations. crews rescuing dozens. passengers stuck for two hours after the snow covered third rail caused the train to lose power. >> since it stops snowing -- once it stops snowing we plan to have a conversation with the folks about improving performance. >> the snow fall causing dangerous conditions elsewhere in massachusetts. a plant suffered extensive damage when the sides caved in. a partial collapse at a ship yard breaking a gas line. roof collapses like these and other hazards are a major cerb for officials. -- concern for officials.

we did get a nice break of winter over the weekend. snow in the mountains. snow at the top. turned out okay. some areas 5, 8 inches of snow, rain in the russian river. that is good news. santa cruz mountains. that is the high for today. nice looking weather system. not going to get to us. this is going over the top. not going to happen. looks like we are going into a dry pattern for this week and maybe next week too. percentage of average, over 100%. that is good. santa rosa 100% right now. we are doing well. if they shut off, we have to worry. over night lows in the 40s. wet ground. cool nights. cooling off. this was a warm storm.

temperatures were in the 60s. 43 napa. valley fog. same old song and dance. warming trend this week. warmest day wednesday and thursday with numbers on wednesday and thursday into the mid-70s. warm. morning fog. the high-pressure system will make the air sink. it warms. air sinks and warms our temperatures go up. wednesday will be low 70s. thursday the warmest day. that will be 75 degrees. and our warmest spots won't be concord or livermore. that is a summer time pattern. this time redwood city, san jose, fremont. they don't get as cool over night because of the temperatures. 66 shows. 65 pleasanton. highs tomorrow. a warming trend. dry as well. we will see that in the five- day forecast. and, you know, i am happy we got the rain we got. would have been nice to get a few more inches.

saturday on the pacific coast highway. investigators say he rear ended a car that was pushed into head on traffic. the driver of that car was killed. police say phone record requests are routine in major accidents like this one. police are looking for a suspicious individual who tried to lure a 10-year-old boy out of his yard. a man was seen drive by the boy's home six times and waving and smiling at the boy when he was outside and on one occasion he ordered the boy into the car but the boy said no and ran off. the suspect is a white male, 30s, 5'10", 170 pounds with light brown hair and dark brown eyes, driving a white car. a politician hit by a driver who fled the scene. he was caught, though. the crash was the end of a 9

this car crash ended what police are calling a day of crime. not only was the car stolen it was involved in a hit and run where a former assemblyman was the victim. the man is facing assault on an officer to attempted robbery to resisting arrest. it ended in a crash at 6th and mission. it involved a number of cars. including one carrying a former assemblyman. ktvu's claudine wong spoke with him and a witness. >> good evening. yes, we are three miles from where the crash happened but we are here because police believe the suspect was here before the crash. we are retracing his steps because police believe the crash was just the end of a long day of crime. >> she only saw the stolen car

for a moment before the crash. >> wobble. pow! >> reporter: the suspect ronnie moody hit a taxi and a sedan. the sedan had two people inside. >> we looked at each other and the headlights came barreling at us. boom. >> reporter: republic republic was running -- ronnie moody was ronning. >> he wasn't hurt at all -- running. >> he wasn't hurt at all. >> he did not want to be taken into custody. >> he had already had a busy day. the car he was driving was reported stolen at 10:00 a.m. that morning. 5:30 p.m. he was involved in a fight on mission. police tried to talk to him there but he jumped into the car and drove off. >> he backed up towards the officers. causing one to have to jump out of the way. >> reporter: 40 minutes later

he made time for a robbery attempt. >> he pulled up, exited and attempted to steal a woman's purse. >> reporter: 6:30 p.m. the crash. even in the chase that followed he was desperate to get away. >> he did attempt to grab on officer's firearm. >> reporter: one man. 9 hours. 4 crime scenes. >> i was like oh, my god. i home ain't nobody hurt. >> reporter: there were no major injuries. the officer was okay. they had bumps and bruises. the suspect was arrested and as you can imagine he is facing a very long list of charges. >> i bet. you spoke with him, he seemed to be okay. what was his mood after all this? >> reporter: he was joking about, you know, being okay. not being seriously hurt. he has bruise and scratches.

air bags went off. his friend had a cut to her face because of the air bags and the car was totaled but he said i am fine. it was scary. a scary moment. who would have known we would end up trapped in that. stopping at a stop sign and waiting. he was in good spirits. glad to be okay. >> thank you. one of two young men charged in the death of a jogger while they were street racing in san jose was arraigned today. the 18-year-old is charged with vehicular manslaughter. police say he and a 23-year-old were racing at more than 70 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone. they crashed and hit the 24- year-old who was jogging. she was killed incidentally. >> this is a very good hearted

young man. he feels extremely bad about the incident. >> he will enter a plea on march 2. he is supposed to be in court with him that day. 2 investigates shines a light on a industry on the internet. talking about the websites that post mug shots after someone is arrested and they will only take them down if you paid them. a practice that was made illegal in california but ktvu's melanie woodrow found it is still happening. >> reporter: exactly. there are dozens of websites that post mug shots. that is not a crime but refusing to take them down unless somebody pays is against the law in california. despite that law going into effect on january 2, we found several websites that were still accepting money to take down mug shots. i visited one of them. and called the number.

the person said they would unpublish a mugshot for $399. the phone said it was a national website not bound by california law but a senator says that is not true. he says for people who are trying to clean up their reputation, what the sites are doing can feel like extortion. >> if we can eliminate the profit then they won't do it. >> i see my mugshot, i always remind me about my family. i don't want to hurt my family. >> reporter: her mugshot was posted online after she was arrested for shoplifting even though the charges were dropped, her mugshot is still available. she says the site will not take it down unless she pays. we will hear more from her tonight at 10:00 p.m. and what recourse is available

remarkable new video to share of a man being rescued from a burning car in florida. deputies smashed the window and dragged the man out. the video is from christmas day. the driver was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. the deputies received a medal of merit. two homeowners have a clean up job on their hands. winds uprooted this tree that came on two neighboring homes. the tree fell about 9:00 p.m. friday night. taking out a deck. no one was home. the neighbor who lives across the street heard that giant tree fall. >> it was like a rumble.

. it is something we haven't seen in weeks. water falls and creeks that was dry are now gushing in marine county and hikers are thrilled. reservoirs are almost full and despite the drought here the distribute water engineer is one happy man. ktvu's john fowler talked with him and today he shows us they have more water than they can store. >> reporter: so much water the water district is sending thousands of gallons a minute out to the bay. from this spillway at phoenix lake. phoenix is a reserve lake. >> that water could be pumped up to the pupper lakes when -- upper lakes when there is room

slopes in the sierra looking whiter and more skiable with the latest storm. the slopes of sugar bowl brought joy today. the season started early with a dose of snow in december but it melted to nothing last month. now they are reporting 2 feet of new snow at the top and a foot at the base. >> we have a huge snow accumulation up there. covering up all the rocks. it is a lot of fun. >> hard packed. it is wet. snow. skiing on top of it. it is carvable. good skiing. >> 60% of trails are open and 4- 13 lifts are open. they plan to fire up three more lifts for the weekend. other reports are reporting good conditions as well. we are in lake tahoe two weeks ago, no snow. i wish i could go this weekend. our chief meteorologist bill martin.

john fowler's piece, we were just talking about seeing all that water. i get it but seeing all that water -- [ talking at the same time ] >> i love after a big rain, i love watching the run off. seeing where it goes. where is it going? that is why the snow pack is important because this water runs into the bay. in the mountains it sits up there in the snow and melts slowly feeds in slowly and we are able to capture it in reservoirs. a lot of times -- it is all about the snow. really about how much snow we get in the mountains so it could time release the water accordingly so we can store it. it is painful to watch it run off. here is the system that will miss us. a nice looking weather system. it goes over the top. radar is spinning. not much to show.

rain around lake shasta. big reservoir filling up in lake sonoma. northern portion of humboldt county. snow was okay. not a ton. but snow, that is good. higher elevations. it does -- it is interesting, that drives it into your head, why we need snow. the snow time releases and puts it in a form that we can control. when it runs, we get all the rain, it goes down the river and out into the ocean. forecast highs. it will warm up the next few days. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, into the mid-70s. the high-pressure system is with us for this five-day forecast and it will stick around. highs tomorrow fog in the morning ask high -- and highs to where they were today.

preparations at levi stadium for the nhl outdoor winter classic between the sharks and the kings. a truck hauling ice making equipment arrived this afternoon. february 21 the san jose sharks play the los angeles kings outside at levi stadium. and crews have just 12 days to make an ice rink. >> the biggest challenge here is rain and the sun. they plan to do a lot of ice making and the construction of the rink after the sun sets or in the evening and work through the night and during the day they will keep the ice covered so there is no sun on the ice. >> the sharks are expecting a crowd of 70,000 and only a couple hundred tickets are still left. this is the second outdoor nhl game ever on the west coast. a small non-profit service that works with cancer service in san francisco lost its lease to make way for a tech company. ktvu's rob roth says they are
