today, certainly shaping up to be a very, very pretty weekend. welcome to mornings on 2, i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike mibach. get you over to rosemary, the sunrise beautiful behind you and we should be in store for another great day out there. >> you're right. yesterday several times my kids are like it feels like los angeles, it feels like los angeles. it was incredibly nice, warm, dry and we have another one coming our way giving you a live look outside our doors, the sun is on its way up. mostly sunny skies, we are tracking just subtle changes for your day and one of those changes happens to be a little bit more fog reported through the delta and into the north bay. take a look at stormtracker 2, again we have mostly sunny skies, again that shade of gray you see in here, that's fog developing over the san joaquin valley and if we check in the visibility on our -- in our area, santa rosa reporting good visibility this morning, thicker early on, 5 miles for napa, the visibility ahead

here. not too bad. a bit of a haze. in the meanwhile, temperatures very similar to how we started yesterday, 42 for napa, 42 in fairfield, fairfield a tad cooler than we were at this hour, 46 half moon bay, 45 redwood city, 56 for hayward. afternoon highs well above average once again, mild to warm, upper 60s to low 70s from pacifica into san francisco, hayward looking at 70 degrees for the afternoon, low 70s to mid-70s for the inner east bay, get into san jose, 74 expected for the afternoon today and to the north bay, 76 expected for santa rosa. i will be tracking a bit of a warming trend in the extended forecast. back to you. as rosemary mentioned it is going to be another nice day out there in the bay area, the nice weather is bringing more people out to the bay area beaches this weekend. this was the scene at crown beach in alameda. crowds didn't just stick to the beaches and the walking trails, they also waded out in the bay

and others set up picnics. and people who chose to spend the day on the water got a big surprise when two gray whales, wait for it, this they are, they surfaced in the san francisco bay. coming up at 7:45 we will tell you where they were spotted and what you should watch out for if you're planning on heading into the city today. right at this time yesterday a large fire broke out at an industrial complex down in san jose wiping out a couple of businesses there. fire department photographer captured some of these intense flames with his camera. ktvu fox 2's allie rasmus joins us now from the complex to explain why there's delay in searching for the cause. >> reporter: even after that fire was out, this metal framed building was too hot for investigators to go into so they couldn't start their work yesterday figuring out the cause and source of the fire. we are told they are supposed to do that work today. this is what's left of that metal framed warehouse and commercial in bare yesa -- bariessa and san jose, on one car they had a car collection,

the other car upholstery shop. this is what the building looked like within minutes of this fire starting. it turned into a fire alarm fire. firefighters believe the fire may have started in that auto upholstery shop but again they have yet to figure out -- that out because investigators couldn't access the building yesterday. but the owner of the building says a collection of 30 classic cars that had been stored in here was destroyed. firefighters say the fire was tough to put out and people who live nearby and worked nearby were told to stay in their homes because of all the smoke. >> anything you deal with, synthetics material, polyesters, plastics, combustible of that sort, it's going to release a lot of chemicals when it starts burning. >> reporter: along with the two businesses destroyed, there were two families displaced by this fire. a couple who lived in an rv on the property and a family of four who was renting a studio space that had been carved out of this warehouse. they are both -- both families are now without a home. the red cross has been working with them to find them a new place to stay.

but the good news, mike, is that no one was hurt in this fire. >> thank you for that report. a new report shows san francisco fire inspectors found repeated safety violations at that big mission district apartment building that burned last month. the "san francisco chronicle" says fire escapes were blocked, fire extinguishers were missing and smoke alarms did not work. despite that, the paper also reports the building did pass its most recent fire inspection last august. it adds many of the people living in the building at 22nd and mission did not know they were in danger until firefighters actually arrived in the hallways were filled with smoke and flames. police in san jose investigating the city's third homicide of the year. it happened 9:40 last night. when officers arrived they found a man with at least one gunshot wound. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. right now it's not clear what led up to the shooting or who is responsible. there are no suspects in custody. this morning police in denmark say the man responsible

for two deadly attacks yesterday in the capital city of copenhagen has been killed. authorities released a statement early this morning saying the suspect was approached at a train station, they say when he shot at them, officers returned fire killing him. investigators believe he is the gunman responsible for two earlier shootings, one at a cafe and the other near a synagogue. >> it was obvious that from the first incident that we decided to investigate a terror -- it as a terror attack, seeing an incident, another shooting shortly after, it makes perfect sense for us to try to investigate it down the same route. >> two people were killed in those shootings and five police officers wounded. one victim was a documentary filmmaker. they believe the gunman acted alone. they say surveillance at both scenes show the same shooter. the obama administration calls the terror attack deplorable. a statement from the national security council says the u.s. offers its condolences to denmark and has been in close

causing and standing ready to lend any assistance necessary to the investigation. today is the last day of open enrollment period for healthcare coverage under president obama's affordable care act. folks can register online in programs such as covered california. there are several seminars in the bay area today including an all day enrollment fair at lake chalet on lake merritt, runs from 1:00 to midnight today. covered california is still about two mun thousand people -- 200,000 people short of its goal of enrolling half a million new enrollees. people who start the application process by today can receive a deadline extension to february 20th. the white house is setting a point person to try to help resolve the ongoing port dispute. labor secretary tom perez will travel to california to help broker the talks between shipping companies and dock workers. secretary perez is the formal prosecutor and special councilor to ted kennedy. the port of oakland is one of

29 west coast ports partially shut down this weekend. a member of the california avocado commission says these shipping delays are hurting state businesses on a global scale. >> we are about a $500 million on average a year industry, farm gate value and our export is about 10% of that so we are looking at $50 million impact and the ripple effect that has on the communities in california is tremendous. >> the shutdown is affecting traffic in both directions including california's export of produce and imports of electronics from asia. president obama is going to spend one more full day in california before returning to washington. he flew from sfo to palm springs yesterday morning. on that one hour flight he phoned the german chancellor and ukraine president to discuss the ongoing ukrainian/ russian conflict. the president and first lady spent valentine's day apart but that did not stop michelle obama from sending her love to the commander of

under armour. fortunately the replacements did come on time and on one pair of shows shoes right -- those shoes right there, you can see he paid tribute to one of the north carolina shooting victims by writing his name on the shoe. the victim whose sister is a doctor at san francisco general hospital was a big seth curry fan -- steph curry fan. >> rookie and former u.k. l.a. star -- ucla star sac lavane won in the on contest. he won behind 18-year-old kobe bryant back in 1997. the best team in the nba, the golden state warriors under the spotlight in today's all star game. steph curry and klay thompson will start for the all stars while steve kerr will be the head coach. several big names won't be in the lineup including kobe bryant and lake griffin of the

los angeles lakers. the nba says the warriors plan to build a new arena in san francisco and their plans are on track. nba commissioner adam silver says he's seen the drawings and has toured that site at mission bay. the warriors want to build that 18,000 seat arena for about $1,800,000,000. the commissioner says it will be privately financed with a sizable contribution from the warriors ownership. it could be ready in time for the 2018-2019 season. first, a scare on a flight, just moments before it was supposed to take off, what one passenger discovered that had the pilot rushing to get that plane back to the gate.

the warm pattern continues for today anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above the average. now, we are typically expected to be in the low 60s for this time of year and what i show -- when i show you the afternoon highs, widespread 70s, even mid to upper 70s in the forecast again for today. we will have a little bit of cooling as we get into your workweek. unfortunately i don't see any rain in the forecast for the week ahead, maybe even the following week. and we will be tracking that for you. so for today, ridge of high pressure remaining locked in, that storm trek so far north we can't even see the clouds at this point. we've got a dry pattern that will continue for your sunday and beyond. ridge of high pressure and the sinking air associated with it, bringing us temperatures well would the mid to upper 70s with mostly sunny skies, that patchy fog won't stick around for too long but if i give you a shot here at the futurecast model, you can see where it is, right into the central valley we are seeing it and that's why some of it has actually spilled through the delta and a little bit of patchy fog reported in areas like napa as well as

santa rosa. into the afternoon today, mostly sunny, the onshore breeze picking up a little bit and take a look at what's going to happen as we get into monday morning, the fog reforming here along the coastline. so again, a bit of a drop coming our way as far as the temperatures. we are still going to be well above average, though, and when it comes to the numbers, easy to take care of because today a lot like yesterday, low 40s in and around napa, santa rosa, you have 46 in novato, mid-40s to mid-50s in and around the bay. 53 for san francisco, 50 degrees for hayward, shifting along the peninsula, we have 42 at menlo park, 45 sunnyvale. we are usually warmer in the hills. the afternoon highs for today, widespread 70s, low to mid-70s for the north bay, low to mid- 70s for the east bay. 76 in oakland for today, into the south bay where we have 74, 79 santa cruz, another day of beautiful weather at the boardwalk, we have 71 san bruno, 72 in san francisco, the extended forecast here, dry, dry, dry, slightly cooler

tuesday, wednesday, thursday. >> got out yesterday. everyone had smiles on their faces, so happy. >> so beautiful. >> enjoy it. we should mention too the national parks are free this weekend. several of them so there's a lot of ways to take advantage of it. >> presidents' day, is that right. >> thanks, rosemary. >> you're welcome. doctors are using the hiv virus to cure cancer patients and so far it appears to be working. doctors say 125 patients with chronic leukemia or nonhodgkins lymphoma have received this experimental therapy. more than 2/3 of them have gone into full or partial remission. the treatment requires researchers to use the part of the hiv virus that allows it to sneak into and infect t cells or white blood cells. >> in this case we are using it to bring in genetic material not from an hiv virus, but bring in genetic material that will reprogram the patient's t cell to fight their cancer. it's not hiv, patients can't

get hiv from this. >> and once reprogrammed, the cells are then put back into the patient's body, scientists at the university of pennsylvania school of medicine say it is unclear if this treatment will work for other types of cancer. well, 7:20 right now and if you're headed out to the water, keep your eyes on the water around the bay. coming up at 7:45, the special sight you might see swimming between the golden gate bridge and alcatraz. first it feels more like spring than winter up in lake tahoe. despite that resorts are actually saying they are much better off this year compared to last season.

there is another storm bearing down on the midwest and new england. they are expected to see more heavy snow. temperatures below 20 degrees and winds gusting to 75 miles an hour. that storm is already causing flight delays including four planes headed here to the bay

area. it is the fourth big storm to hit massachusetts in less than a month. man, so different from here. there's already more than 6 feet of snow from the earlier storms and people are being asked to stay home unless they absolutely need to be outside. >> we would urge you all to stay off the roads so that the crews can do the work they need to do to plow the roads and to continue the work we have been doing over the course of the past week or so to remove and dispose of snow from previous storms. >> now, the storm has also caused whiteout conditions on freeways in ohio. three people died in separate accidents early yesterday and interstate highways were shut down for several hours. usually people bundle up when they hit the slows in february but not this weekend. kevin oliver headed up to tahoe where the ski resorts are doing their best to deal with record warm temperatures. >> reporter: at heavenly ski resort the music was pumping like this was spring break, and even the temperatures felt like

spring. so much so that people stopped bundling up and started taking their layers off. >> too hot. >> too hot. >> i had to take my sweater off and put it over my shoulders. >> got to get the rest of the picture in. >> i thought it would be really cool. i didn't know it would be this warm. it's getting real hot. >> reporter: with clear blue skies and mild temperatures, skiers and snowboarders were grateful there was still snow on the slopes. can you believe it's february? >> no, i can't. it's amazing. >> reporter: heavenly reported 16 inches of new snow after last week's storm and at 9000 feet in elevation there was still plenty of snow on the ground. >> it's great that this weather coincides with the holiday weekend just because people can come up, enjoy the sun and enjoy the snow. >> reporter: the roads over the pass were clear and there was no letup in the steady stream of traffic into the resort town. the santos family from elk grove was happy to get in another long weekend of skiing, wondering if this warm weather will last. >> before this last storm we thought we were done and we

bought a season pass and it's like, oh, really? haven't got much use out of it. >> reporter: some winter businesses are already feeling the heat with some lower elevation snow parks closed until it snows again. this weekend marks the halfway point in the winter season. four ski resorts in the tahoe area, by comparison some resorts actually did not even open until this time last year due to a lack of snow. well, nassau says the western -- nasa says the western part of the u.s. is facing the worst drought ever. researchers say if greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current rate, a drought could cover most of the western u.s. from california to nebraska and kansas. nasa says conditions would be worse than they were during the oklahoma dust bowl of the 1930s. scientists say the problem is compounded because more people are moving to the southwest and that creates an even greater demand on areas that are already suffering from drought conditions. a man groped at the stanford shopping center. what we know about the incident

and through the delta. if we turn over to the graphics i will show you where it may be a little thick if you're stepping out early this morning, hopping in the car, getting outdoors, napa, santa rosa, your visibility right now 10 miles but along highway 101 you might find some maybe through novato, maybe through petaluma, the darker shade indicating where it could be thicker. sometimes when it's patchy like this it's more dangerous because you've got great visibility and it sort of hits you like a wall. be careful again if you're stepping out early onto the highways. 44 degrees in livermore, 42 in napa, 46 in novato, 47 in mountview, mid -- mountain view, mid-70s in oakland. 72 in concord, 72 san francisco, 74 san jose, maybe shaving off a degree or two for some areas, not really able to notice at least for most, 75 in napa and santa rosa will go to 76. santa cruz not on this map but if you're thinking about going in that direction, warmed into

the low 80s yesterday, we will do 79 today. we are on our way into a cooldown and it's not going to be a big one, but i'll show you that coming up in the extended forecast. back to you. >> thanks, rosemary. environmental officials in the south bay are concerned about the air quality due to a large fire at an industrial complex. san jose fire department photographer craig rose took these images of a wall of flames that actually wiped out two custom auto shops on commercial court near berryessa road, about 110 firefighters from across the south bay were called to yesterday's five- alarm fire. crews battled this fire nonstop for three hours. >> we haven't been able to get into the building. it's still too dangerous and that structure is too heavily damaged for us to go in. >> a collection of restored classic cars that was stored in one of the businesses also went up in flames. it included a rare 1970 monte carlo. >> it's a 30-year collection of vehicles, you know, classic

american cars, but they are gone. >> firefighters tell us the fire may have started inside an auto upholstery shop when investigators are finally able to get inside this building, they will check to see if the cause of the fire was storage or an electrical issue. warm temperatures helped create a haze over the area and some residents and businesses downwind received an alert to evacuate as a precaution. it's now -- there's now an online fundraiser, though, four people who lost their homes in a san francisco tenderloin district fire last thursday, san francisco's supervisor jane kim is working with project homeless connect and handup to raise money for the 23 people who lived in the building on hide street. she says every dollar raised will go to the families who are looking for new places to live. the handup site also gives fire survivors a place to tell their stories. palo alto police are asking the public to help them find a man who they say groped another man inside the macy's men's rest room at the sanford shopping center.

yesterday police released this sketch of the suspect. he is described as a latino male in his 30s with a medium build. police say on wednesday he grabbed the victim at the usually and then took -- urinal and then took off. one person is dead after an suv shamed into three motorcyclists in sonoma county. that happened around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. in the northbound lane of highway one near fort ross historic park. according to the chp a 19-year- old driver in a toyota rav 4 headed southbound, crossed over the double yellow lines and then into northbound traffic. three motorcyclists were hit. one was killed while the two other suffered major injuries. throughout four drivers sustained minor injuries. we now know the identity of a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a santa clara light rail train. 29-year-old kevin ma sawa -- masawa was struck in san jose on friday night. investigators still aren't sure what he was doing on the tracks. officials say it appears that

the warning lights and sound system on the crossing bars were working properly. richmond police still have not identified the driver responsible for a chase that shut down eastbound interstate 580 early yesterday afternoon. that chase started near the freeway when a woman saw a ford ranger with her personalized license plate driving by. the woman had just reported her license plate stolen. officers followed that pickup onto the freeway, the driver crashed twice before stopping nearra gooda -- near ragada boulevard. he was hurt and had to be airlifted to a hospital in walnut creek. his passenger also had minor injuries. no one else was hurt. police say they found guns and money in the pickup truck. new reports suggest islamic militants trying to gain more ground in iraq. two dozen isis firefighters wearing iraqi uniforms attempted to infiltrate an iraqi air base. first suicide bombers and then the gunmen. iraqi security forces fought off the assault and killed those isis fighters, however,

the attack raises deep concerns about the safety of more than 300 american troops still at that base. >> they are willing to do what the americans and the iraqi forces are not willing to do and that is they are willing to take horrendous casualty rates to make a point and they are bringing in foreign fighters who are coming in to die in jihad. >> the u.s. service members at the base are training iraqi troops and assisting baghdad in training sunni tribesmen to face isis. tonight a conversation with former secretary of state secretary of state george schultz, i satdown with him to discuss his recent passion to educate americans on climate change. discuss his take on isis, the 2016 presidential election, president barack obama and take him back when he was secretary of state and question him about the massive drop in the price of oil. similar to today, in 1985, oil prices plunged, one theory the oil collapse was engineered by the u.s. government to bring down the soviet union, back

then a top oil producer in the world. did you or anyone in the reagan administration ever ask the saudis to open up their pumps more so as to drive the price down and therefore hurt the soviet union economically? >> we had a nice, quiet understanding. i'll leave it at that. >> can you expand a little bit more? >> no. >> the republican schultz also opens up about his family including the importance of his mother and the role she played in his life, tonight on the 10:00 news. my conversation with george schultz. the federal aviation administration is planning on announcing some new rules today regarding the use of commercial drones. right now all commercial remote controlled aircraft are banned except for some rare exceptions. drones have been a problem in the past few years because of several close calls with commercial passenger airplanes. it is unclear how complicated the new requirements are going to be. and some schools across the country are cracking down on e- cigarettes. most schools combine e- cigarettes with their

antitobacco policies. they punish students with detention, a letter home and sometimes require a tobacco education class but now some schools are grouping the devices with bongs and pipes because they can be used for illegal substances like marijuana. so some students in north carolina, new jersey, washington and connecticut are now facing long suspensions, required drugs tests and permanent marks on their school records. restaurants across the country are using a new software to help reduce the number of cancellations and keep costs down. the lazy bear in san francisco is one of those restaurants. it requires guests to book their reservation online and pay for their meal up front through a program called talk. no walk-ins allowed and no refunds. shops from the french laundry in i don't knowville and -- yonville and -- are savoring the savings. >> between no shows and food costs, we have saved over $500,000 a year. >> more than 600 restaurants plan on launching the program

this year keeping their costs down. customers say they hope restaurants will pass the savings along to them. well, hundreds of pillows, there are some of them, they have met their doom after yesterday's massive pillow fight in san francisco. this annual event took place at about 6:00 last night at justin herman plaza, about 1000 people showed up to make the feathers fly. looking like they are hitting each other pretty hard. some people came as couples, others cames as families and some people just came to watch. everywhere you looked there were epic battles underway, kids against parents, husbands against wives, many people say the free-for-all is a great way to release anxiety or stress that may come along with valentine's day. others say it's just a great way to have fun. some people had never been to the event, others could be considered pillow fighting professionals. >> this is my sixth year. it's nice to see everybody come together for such a silly concept but makes me feel like a kid again.

this is cleanup day for many people living near honolulu. a strong storm battered the eastern coast of oahu, howling winds pulled roofs off homes. one woman ended up in the

middle of the street and the firefighter across the island called for people who help living outside honolulu. >> i was scared, things knocking and banging all throughout the night, feeling like things were going to fly through the window, wondering if our neighbor's roof was going to end up in our home. it was that bad. >> despite the damage, no one was hurt. power crews spending the day today reconnecting all the electrical lines that were blown down by the winds. a couple gray whales spotted in san francisco bay. appear to be on their annual migration to alaska and wandered slightly off track. some people say the whales are serving as a reminder that we need to respect nature while we appreciate its beauty. petty officer matthew kavaqo was in the middle of a training session near alcatraz when the two whales surfaced. he was in a crew of eight on two boats. the most visible whale appeared to be 15, possibly 20 feet long, he said the second one was more submerged.

he says it believes it may have been smaller and possibly a calf. >> headed up into the bay but we were able to see them for a few minutes and they looked completely comfortable and healthy and happy. >> the coast guard immediately transmitted a mariners alert to warn boaters of the whales' presence. it's against the law to get within 100 yards of those animals. federal law protects them from harm or harassment but the danger of human interference still exists. >> about to give birth or have just given birth who are essentially running on an empty tank of gas. >> every spring the gulf of the fair lawns national marine sanctuary puts out a warning for boaters avoiding whales during their migration given that it already feels like spring, they may be issuing that alert a little bit early. sea lions and their pups continue to get stranded on california beaches in alarming numbers. for the past five weeks marine

scientists and volunteers have been trying to nurse back to health more than 100 sea lions. on thursday morning a beachgoer in san diego shot video of two lifeguards trying to rescue the sea lion. it could soon be helped to train other lifeguards. >> some of us are trained in certain ways to rescue animals and we use techniques to pick them up, just wadling around, need help, malnourished, maybe dehydrated. >> scientists say changes in coastal currents have pushed fish population out to sea. nursing mothers have had to switch to -- >> i didn't see those two whales but i was down by fort baker where the water was thinking it would be cooler but i was wrong because it was just as warm where i live, a little bit inland and on the bay. >> packed people outside, everywhere. >> yes, out and about, walking the streets, having a good time. >> it was great.

falling below 100% of average, 96 at this point, san francisco still above, barely, and we are looking at san jose with hundred 26% of average -- 126% of average. and the snowpack really suffering as well because the wet systems that came through in december and the wet ones we had recently, warm storms and so we benefited but the sierra not as much. 42 degrees right now in napa, 44 in walnut creek and 54 san francisco. these numbers a lot like yesterday, a little cooler at half moon bay, 46 degrees, 47 right now mountain view and into san jose. let's shift into the east bay and take a look at a few more numbers for you here, upper 40s outside your door, pittsburg, antioch, 50 degrees in brentwood, danville a cool 42 degrees for you as well as san ramon and 46 in lafayette. numbers are going to feel very similar for the afternoon today. just shaved off a degree or two for some and that's about it. 74 for petaluma this afternoon, 70 at stenson beach, 76 in

101 through petaluma, maybe closer to novato earlier this morning but now visibility looks good so that's good news. temperaturewise, it's a cool start in some areas, 44 for santa rosa right now, 44 in napa, concord checking in at 48, 54 san francisco, mid-50s at sfo and 50 degrees right now mountain view as well as san jose, afternoon highs for today, shaving off a degree or two for some. i don't think most of us will notice. mostly sunny skies and 70 for pacifica today, 76 in oakland, 72 expected for concord and 71 in antioch. 74 for san jose. we get into the workweek ahead, hopefully you have tomorrow off but if you don't, a bit of a cooldown, unseasonably warm, show you those numbers, show you any possibility of rain coming our way coming up. as rosemary mentioned, it is going to be another nice day and that nice weather is bringing out more people to the bay area beaches this weekend. this was the scene at crown beach in alameda and the crowds

didn't just stick to the beaches or walking trails. check the folks out wading into the bay, others set up picnics and people who chose to spend the day on the water got a big surprise. wait for it. check out who surfaces. gray whales in the san francisco bay. coming up at 8:45 we will tell you where they were spotted and what you should watch out for if you're planning on heading into the city today. fire investigators in the south bay are expected to visit a warehouse destroyed by a large and quick moving fire. two custom auto shops went up in flames. allie rasmus is live in san jose where only the empty shell of that building remains. >> reporter: that's right. investigators weren't able to go into the building yesterday because the fire burned so hot and burned for so long, the building was unsafe for anyone to go into. this morning investigators are supposed to go into the building to figure out the cause and the source of this fire and we have seen people getting access to what's left of this warehouse this morning. a man who was out here on the property arrived here just 10 minutes ago. he is the property owner, he

owns this building and he was taking some pictures of particularly one of the businesses in the back. that's where a classic car collection of about 10 cars had been stored and the property owner says they are taking pictures for insurance purposes. he estimates the value of those classic cars that went up in flames that are now destroyed as about $1 million. 24 hours ago, the building was completely engulfed in flames. the fire started just about 7:00 yesterday. the warehouse was home to that classic car collection that was a storage area, rented by a business owner here. also an auto upholstery shop was a separate business also housed in the same warehouse. both were destroyed. and within minutes of the fire starting, it turned into a five- alarm fire. firefighters believe the fire may have started in that auto upholstery shop. the owner of that car collection says that about 10 of his cars that had been stored here were destroyed. firefighters say the fire was tough to put out and people who live nearby and workny beer

were told to stay in their homes because of all the smoke which was visible from as far away as the highway. >> you could see smoke for miles away and i knew it was serious. it's a 30-year collection of vehicles. you know, classic american cars. but they are gone. >> reporter: now, along with the two businesses destroyed, there were also two families displaced by this fire. a couple who lived in an rv on the property and a family of four who was renting a temporary studio space inside this warehouse. the good news, though, is that no one was hurt. everyone got out safely and the red cross is working with those families to find them another place to stay. mike. >> do you have any price tag on the amount of loss when you consider all those cars were burned up there? >> reporter: well, i don't know the damage estimate for the entire building, so remember there were two businesses here, but i am just talking to the owner of the structure, he said that he estimates the value of those classic cars that were

burned up at least $1 million because some of those cars were very rare and very expensive. >> yeah, including a 1970 monte carlo as well. allie rasmus live in san jose, thank you for that. new report shows san francisco fire inspectors found repeated safety violations at that big mission district apartment building that burned last month. a "san francisco chronicle" says fire escapes were blocked, fire extinguishers were missing and smoke alarms did not work. the building did pass its most recent fire inspection last august. it adds many of the people living in the building at 22nd and mission didn't even know they were in danger until firefighters arrived and saw that the hallways were filled with smoke and flames. one man died and 20 people are still displaced. san jose police right now are investigating a deadly shooting. it is the city's third homicide of the year and it happened about 9:40 last night on north capital avenue near mckee road. when officers arrived on the scene, they did find a man with

at least one gunshot wound. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. right now it is not clear what led up to that shooting or who is responsible, there are no suspects in custody. and denmark does remain on high alert this morning, even though police believe they have killed the gunman who is responsible for two terror attacks yesterday. authorities were worried the gunmen would try to escape so they guarded transit stations and airports when two officers spotted a man fitting the suspects' description at the train station, the men opened fire. the officers then shot and killed him. investigators believe he is responsible for two deadly shootings yesterday, one at a cafe and the other near a synagogue. >> we decided to investigate a terror attack. seeing an incident, another shooting shortly after, it makes perfect sense for us to try and investigate it down the same route. >> two people were killed in those shootings and five police officers were wounded. one of the victims was a documentary filmmaker. a short time ago danish

authorities announced they believe the gunman acted alone. they say he was known to intelligence services prior to the shootings and they may have been inspired by the paris terror attacks. back here in the u.s., time is running out for people who have not signed up yet for health insurance during the open enrollment period under the affordable care act. today is the last day people can register for programs such as covered california. there are several seminars in the bay area today including an all day enrollment fair at lake chalet at lake merritt, runs from 1:00 this afternoon to midnight. people who start the application process by today can receive a deadline extension to february 20th. with the port dispute continuing, the white house now sending a point person to try to help find a resolution. labor secretary tom perez and going to travel to california to try to help broker the talks between the shipping companies and the dock workers. secretary perez is a former federal prosecutor and special counselor to the late massachusetts senator ted kennedy. the port of oakland is one of 29 west coast ports partially shut down this weekend, a member of the california

avocado commission says these shipping delays are hurting state businesses on a global scale. >> we are about a $500 million on average a year industry, farm gate value, and our export is about 10% of that so we are looking at $50 million impact and the ripple effect that has on the communities in california is tremendous. >> the shutdown is affecting traffic in both directions including california's exports of produce and imports of electronics from asia. warrior superstar steph curry proves he is not only the best shooter on the team but in the entire nba. >> now he's found the range. so effortless. >> good curry demonstrated his shooting touch last night to win the all star three-point contest in brooklyn. at one point during the final round, he actually made 13 shots in a row and he beat some great challengers including teammate klay thompson.

the all star game is tonight and the golden state warriors will be well represented. seth curry and -- steph curry and klay thompson will start for the all conference stars. several big names won't be in the lineup including kobe bryant and blake griffin because of injuries. that game will be played at madison square garden. the nba apparently likes the look of the warriors proposed new home in san francisco. nba commissioner adam silver says he has seen the plans and he has toured the site at mission bay. the warriors want to build that 18,000 seat arena for about $800 million. the commissioner says it is going to be privately financed but also come with a sizable contribution from warriors ownership. it could be ready in time for the 2018-2019 season. restaurants firing back at those who dare cancel their reservations. coming up at 8:30, the new approach many spots across the nation are taking so they don't

an alaska airlines jet had to return to a terminal at l.a.x. after a passenger was stung by

a scorpion. the flight to portland, oregon was about to take off when the woman reported being bitten. paramedics boarded that plane while it was on the runway and treated the woman. she refused further treatment but did stay in los angeles. flight attendants found that scorpion and killed it. well, it is estimated that one in five people have a fear of flying even when it doesn't involve scorpions but you are about to meet two people who are trying to do something about that. katie utehs brings us a story of a married couple who are both pilots and who are helping others overcome their fear of flying. >> reporter: united airlines pilot captain andrea connell inspects her plane with care. mark connell, her husband's plane is parked two planes over. their commute is likely different than yours. >> he was on my flight as a passenger. >> reporter: mark pilots a larger flies, but if they were to fly together, andrea has

store for today. giving you a look here at the futurecast model if you do have traveling to do, we have fog forming here in the central and san juan valley and you can see it stretching attempting to get through in the delta. we had a little bit here, a little bit in santa rosa and petaluma, but cleared up quite nice. as we get into the afternoon, we have plenty of sunshine from the coast around the bay and inland, but the onshore breeze is going to come back, i'll push you into presidents' day, here we are monday morning and notice it's creeping up along the coastline and then it fills in a little bit as we get into your monday afternoon. so we have minor changes coming, and fortunately not going to be any rain but we have a bit of a cooldown with the morning fog working its way back into the bay area for the week ahead. 55 degrees in san francisco right now, 49 in oakland, checking in with concord, you have 48 degrees and 44 in napa, these numbers a little chilly, it will feel a bit cool as you get outside, 54 half moon bay, 55 in san francisco with the sun shining overhead, you may

not need a jacket. as we get into the afternoon, we have temperatures in the low to mid-70s, once again for santa rosa, 76, 75 in napa, 75 for novato, closer to the water, another gorgeous one, 72 in sausalito if you're thinking about hanging out along the waterfront there, 72 in alameda. i was in al bode yesterday and it was -- alameda yesterday and it was beautiful. 76 for danville. how about the south bay? 74 san jose, another round of warm weather in santa cruz along the beach, 79 for the afternoon, 71 in half moon bay, 73 san mateo and san francisco mostly sunny and 72, that's a beautiful day in the city to be walking around union square, maybe along the embarcadero. the extended forecast here showing you temperatures will fall off as we get into presidents' day and for the week ahead, it's a subtle drop with each passing day. we sort of hold steady at about 69 degrees through midweek and then next weekend actually looking like temperatures are going to warm back up.

so for next weekend maybe a repeat of this weekend and i know what's on your mind. when is it going to rain? >> how far can you reasonably look out to say i'm pretty sure there's nothing? >> there's a little blip on the 26th. >> that's encouraging. >> that's something. we will take it. we will take it. >> i have a neighbor at home that would say, rosemary, what type of crazy are you trying to sell me? 26? really, that far out? but, yeah it looks really dry. >> if that's all we can get, we will take what we can get. >> you might as well go to the beach today. >> yeah, got to enjoy it. doctors have found a positive way to use the hiv virus, they are using it to cure cancer patients and so far they say it appears to be working. doctors say 125 patients with chronic leukemia or nonhodgkins lymphoma have received this experimental therapy, more than 2/3 of them have gone into a full or partial remission. the treatment requires researchers to use the part of the hiv virus that allows it to sneak into and infect t cells

or white blood cells. >> in this case we are using it to bring in genetic material not from an hiv virus, but bring in genetic material that will reprogram the patient's t cell to fight their cancer. it's not hiv. patients can't get hiv from this. >> and once reprogrammed, the cells are then put back into the patient's body, scientists at the university of pennsylvania school of medicine say it's unclear if this treatment will work for other cancers. well, one more day of golf at pebble beach and it's a gorgeous day for a golf tournament but coming up at 8:45, the surprises on the leaderboard and the big name who made it into that final round. but first as rosemary said it feels a little bit more like spring break especially up in lake tahoe. despite the less than ideal ski conditions we will talk about why resorts are much better off this year compared to last season.

this morning there's another storm bearing down on new england and the upper midwest. people who live in new england, michigan and indiana are expected to see more heavy snow. temperatures below 20 degrees and winds gusting at 75 miles an hour. that is already causing flight delays including some planes headed right here to the bay area. usually people do bundle up when they hit the slopes in february but not this weekend. reporter kevin oliver headed up to tahoe where the ski resorts are doing their best to deal with these record warm

temperatures. ♪[ music ]♪ >> reporter: at heavenly ski resort the music was pumping like this was spring break, and even the temperatures felt like spring. so much so that people stopped bundling up and started taking their layers off. >> too hot. >> too hot. >> i had to take my sweater off and put it over my shoulders. >> no, i thought it would be really cool. i didn't know it would be this warm. kind of getting really hot. >> reporter: with clear blue skies and mild temperatures, skiers and snowboarders were grateful there was still snow on the slopes. can you believe it's february? >> no, no, i can't. it's amazing. >> reporter: heavenly reported 16 inches of new snow after last week's storm and at 9000 feet in elevation, there was still plenty of snow on the ground. >> it's great that this weather coincides with the holiday weekend just because people can come up, enjoy the sun and enjoy the snow. >> reporter: the roads over the pass were clear and there was no letup in the steady stream of traffic into the resort

town. the santos family from elk grove was happy to get in another long weekend of skiing, wondering if this warm weather will last. >> before this last storm we thought we were done and we bought a season pass and it's like, oh, really? haven't got much use out of it. >> reporter: some winter businesses are already feeling the heat with some lower elevation snow parks closed until it snows again. >> rosemary said 60s yesterday, 50s today. this weekend marking that halfway point of the winter season for the ski resorts in the tahoe area. by comparison, though, some resorts didn't actually open until this time last year because of the lack of snow. >> thanks, claudine. new rules regarding the use of commercial drones. up next, the reason most of them have been banned in the past and what it could mean for the future. waking up with sunshine this morning with abundant sunshine in the forecast for your sunday afternoon. i'll update conrad murray current -- i'll update your current conditions and line up the afternoon highs coming up.

morning, right, rosemary? >> yeah. >> you were dancing over there too. don't lie. >> i was doing a little bob. ask and you shall receive, i said that exactly when you did. i don't know if you heard that. >> we are always in tune. >> nice weather coming our way and to sum it up, today going to be a lot like yesterday. woke up with a little bit of patchy fog this morning, hard to find at this point, little bit through the delta in through the central valley but over the bay area waking up with sunshine, 44 degrees in napa, 49 in oakland, mid-50s san francisco, sfo and san jose holding at 50 degrees as well. so those of us in the mid-40s a little cool but not bad and as we get into the second half of the day with plenty of sunshine, we are looking at temperatures rebounding back into the upper 60s to upper 70s. we are typically right about 60 degrees this time of year. we've got 60s and 70s around the bay over santa rosa, napa,

san jose, santa cruz expected to go to 79, i'll put some numbers on the screen for you here. 73 for vallejo today, 72 in san francisco, 73 redwood city, 74 in fremont and livermore expected to go to 74, mid-70s for morgan hill. some of these a tad cooler than what we had yesterday, really, really hard to tell. we will continue this cooling trend eventually as we get into the workweek ahead so i'll line up those numbers for you and talk about the possibility of any rain coming our way coming up. >> thanks, rosemary. well, air quality was an immediate concern after this fire broke out at a santa rosa industrial complex. >> the flames here wiped out two auto shops inside the building. environmental officials checked the air over the scene. >> allie rasmus live at that complex now where fire crews have just returned this morning. >> reporter: fire crews have been here overnight kind of keeping an eye on this building after this fire. we can turn the camera around and show you there is a couple of fire trucks over there, also just in the last five minutes this dump truck towing that backhoe just arrived and we are

told that that equipment is going to be used to start tearing down the building that caught on fire because it's no longer structurally sound. also at the site returning to the site this morning, some of the owners of the businesses destroyed. they have come back to take pictures of the damage for insurance purposes, there were two businesses renting space in this warehouse, one an auto upholstery shop, the other a car stereo shop that had classic cars stored in the building. the building's owner has been out on the property taking pictures and measurements. came along with him to the back of the warehouse where we can see what's left of the rare and expensive classic cars. the building owner estimates the value of the cars destroyed is at least $1 million. the owner of the upholstery shop was also on site this morning taking a look at the damage. he didn't want to comment. he and his wife own this business and he said they were pretty shaken up by the loss of their business. 24 hours ago the building was completely engulfed in flames. firefighters believe the fire may have started in that auto upholstery shop, although the work that's going to be done today investigators will be going into the building to try

and pinpoint the source and the cause of this fire and the location where it started. the fire was tough to put out and people who live nearby and work nearby were told to stay in their homes because all the smoke in the air some of which you could see from the freeway. a couple who lived in an rv on the property and a family of four who was renting a studio space carved out of this warehouse are now without a home because of the fire. the good news, though, they are not hurt. now, back out here this morning, the fire officials out here told us that investigators are going to be going back into the building to start their work but firefighters and public information officers aren't going to be making any comment about the investigations. they said all they can tell us at this point it appears to be accidental, no suspicious in nature, claudine, back to you. >> i know we could see the smoke from that fire for miles away. the rest of that neighborhood, is it a fairly industrial area that's being affected at least immediately by the firefighters and things -- and investigators back there now? >> reporter: yeah, it's very, very industrial. i mean, just looking around,

you can't see any houses or anything, any buildings. it's a lot of businesses and warehouses, some construction equipment, that sort of industrial area, there's no residences or apartments as far as the eye can see from where we are standing. >> thank you, allie. we appreciate the update. now an online fundraiser for people who lost their homes in the san francisco tenderloin district fire last thursday. san francisco supervisor jane kim is working with project homeless connect and handup to raise money for the 23 people who live in the building on hide street. she says every dollar raised is going to go to the families who are now looking for new places to live. the handup site also gives fire survivors a place to tell their stories. new concerns about the safety of americans in iraq after islamic militants tried to attack a military base there. two dozen isis fighters posing as friendly iraqi soldiers attempted to infiltrate the iraqi air base. they came in two waves, first

suicide bombers and then the gunmen. iraqi suicide forces fought off the assault and killed the isis fighters while the more than 200 american troops at the base remain unhurt. >> they are willing to do with the -- what the americans and iraqi forces are not willing to do, willing to take horrendous casualty rates to make a point and they are bringing in foreign fighters who are coming in to die in jihad. >> the u.s. service members at the base are training iraqi troops and assisting baghdad in training sunni tribesmen to fight isis. tonight a conversation with former secretary of state george schultz. i sat down with him to discuss his recent passion to educate americans on climate change. we also discussed his take on isis, the 2016 presidential election, president obama and i take him back 30 years ago when he was secretary of state and questioned him about the massive drop in the price of oil. >> similar to today in 1985/'86

oil prices plunged, one theory the oil collapse was engineered by the u.s. government to bring down the soviet union, back then a top oil producer in the world. so did you or anyone in the reagan administration ever ask the saudis to open up their pumps more so as to drive the price down and therefore hurt the soviet union economically? >> we had a nice quiet understanding. i'll leave it at that. >> can't expand a little more? >> no. >> the republican schultz also opens up about his family including the importance his mother played in his life. tonight on the 10:00 news, my conversation with george schultz. >> looking forward to that. the federal aviation administration will be announcing some new rules today regarding the use of commercial drones. right now all commercial remote control aircraft are banned except for some rare exceptions. drones have been a problem in the past few years because of several close calls with commercial passenger airplanes. it's still unclear how complicated those new requirements are going to be. schools across the country are taking a major stand

against e-cigarettes, most schools -- their antitobacco policy so they publish students with either detention, a letter home, sometimes they require tobacco education class but now some schools are grouping those devices because they can be used for illegal substances like marijuana. some students in north carolina, new jersey, washington and connecticut are now facing long suspensions, required drug tests and permanent marks on their school records. well, a number of famous restaurants are using a new software to help reduce the number of cancellations and keep costs down. the lazy bear in san francisco is one of those restaurants. it requires guests to book their reservation online and pay for their meal up front through a program called talk. no walk-ins allowed and no refunds. chefs from the french laundry and yonville and helena are savoring the savings.

>> between no shows and food costs we have saved over $500,000 a year. >> more than 600 restaurants plan on launching the program this year keeping their costs down, customers say they hope those restaurants are going to pass the savings along to them. it's a san francisco classic, hundreds of pillows were destroyed during yesterday's massive pillow fight in san francisco. the annual event took place at about 6:00 last night at justin herman plaza, about 1000 people showed up all to make those feathers fly. some people came as couples, others as families and some people even just came to watch. everywhere you look there were epic battles underway, the children against the parents, the husbands against wives, many people say their free-for- all is a great way to release anxiety or stress that may come along with valentine's day. others say, hey, it's just great fun no matter how you look at it. some people had never been to the event. others could be considered, i guess you could say, pillow

fighting professionals. >> this is my sixth year. it's nice to see everybody come together for such a silly concept, but makes you feel like a kid again. >> six years, yeah, you're a veteran right there, at least two people we know of were hurt, police say one man slipped on some feathers and hit his head. a woman also got punched in the face forcing police to shut down the event 15 minutes earlier. only cost the city about $5000 to clean up all those feathers. if you missed out on last night's pillow fight, you can always head over to the feathers of fury pillow fight in san jose. the event kicks off at noon today at paseo de san antonio between camera 12 and johnny rockets, all you have to bring is pillow and garbage bags to help clean up afterwards. about 60 couples are husband and wife thanks to the alameda county courthouse which opened its doors for valentine's day. that office does not usually open on the weekends but yesterday it was valentine's day so it made an exception. some couples dressed in their best, others just came in their

welcome back, we appreciate your time on this sunday morning, giving you a live look at the bay point area pointing west towards martinez, currently 54 degrees outside your door. with all that nice weather, you might be trying to get to those new year's resolutions, so lots of people decided they were going to get in shape so maybe you want to go outside and head for a run but maybe your goal is bigger than a few laps around the block and you're eyeing the first long distance race and trying to figure out just exactly how to

do it. joining me now is olympic level running coach and senior editor mario fry ollie, thank you for joining us this morning. >> thank you for having me. >> lots of people either hate running or like it at short distance. what do you tell people about maybe the benefits and why they should even sign up for a marathon, a half marathon or even start with a 5k, right? >> good to have a goal and especially for the people just starting out it's good to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do something that you didn't think you previously could, even if it's just a 5k but even all the way up to the half marathon which is america's most popular racing distance right now. >> i've done that once, it was really hard mentally. physically obviously it's hard on your body but especially if you haven't prepared but do you think it's more of a mental thing? there's a lot of people who run marathons that you might be surprised about because they just kind of stick to this long training program and get there? >> yeah, it's totally a mental thing and that long training program can intimidate a lot of people but if you go to any race and you look at just the spectrum of people who are crossing the finish line, it's all shapes and sizes, all ages

and ability levels and you're really capablele way more than you ever -- capable of way more than you thought you could be. >> i noticed you ran the boston marathon. i'm always amazed by the people and really all different shapes and sizes. and boston marathon obviously is a very competitive one and so people have accomplished a lot to be in that. what do you think that drives people? we are looking at video of people running across the golden gate bridge, it could be so many things that inspires someone to start running and keep on running? >> yeah, everyone has got their own motivations like running over the golden gate bridge a destination for some people, qualifying for the boston marathon is this lifelong attainable goal, call it the peoples olympics, for a lot of people that could be the pinnacle of their running career. everyone has got their own reason which is one of the most beautiful things about the sport. >> give really the hard helpful tips on kind of how to do it. do you need a coach? how much time should you give yourself? let's say you can run a mile right now comfortably. how much time do you give yourself to say i'm going to

achieve this goal? >> if you can run a mile comfortably right now and building up to something like a half marathon, safest approach give a mile to each run. three months to safely prepare for a half mile. a 5k, only at a mile, two more miles. important to take a gradual, intelligent approach to building your training volume. >> rosemary asked me earlier today, she goes anyone you look at and say it's a great idea, you know, let's not go for the half marathon, let's not go for the marathon, let's keep your run short, who shouldn't be doing this? >> there isn't anyone who shouldn't be doing this. i think you need to start with smart goals and start small. 5k, move up to 10k as you go along you're going to enjoy the process of running more and you'll start thinking what can i do next? that's how people get hooked and go onto half marathons and marathons and even longer races than that these days. >> rosemary, no more excuses, as you say? >> leave your excuses at the door. >> i don't think i've ever run

more than 3 miles. just really painful for me. i just think some people naturally are runners and some people aren't. so i don't know if i could ever run a half marathon. >> i bet you could. >> you have to -- i guess it's finding that deep down of wanting to do it, right? >> got to get past the mental block of not thinking you can and start gradually taking the steps to get there. >> start telling myself i can instead of i can't. >> see, there you go. afterwards you have to jump on rosemary and get her running around the studio. a lot of good tips and i think it's probably planning it out and giving yourself accomplishable goals in the process. >> exactly. thanks for having me. >> thank you. >> mike when is your last -- mike is actually a runner. >> i don't know if you would say a runner. definitely not going to run a marathon. i did a 400-meter dash in high school. i'll stick to my one lap approach. it worked well and going to stick with it. one lap. >> we all need some one on one apparently here, mario.

>> thank you both for that. appreciate you. couple gray whales spots in san francisco bay on their annual migration to alaska. petty officer matthew cavaco was in the middle of a training session near alcatraz when two whales surfaced, 15 to 20 feet long, the second one was more submerged. he says he believes it may have been smaller and possibly a calf. >> they were headed up into the bay but we were able to see them for a few minutes and they looked completely comfortable and healthy and happy. >> the coast guard immediately transmitted a mariners alert to warn boaters of the whales' presence. it's against the law to get within 100 yards of those animals. federal law protects them from harm or harassment but the danger of human interference still exists. >> right now we've got a lot of females who have either are about to give birth or have just given birth who are essentially running on an empty tank of gas.

>> every spring the gulf of the fair lawns national marine sanctuary puts out a warning for boaters about avoiding whales during their migration given that it already feels like spring, they may be issuing that alert a little bit early. so in the past we have had whales hanging out in the bay. we have usually given them some names and those names included delta and dawn as well as humphrey so you tell us if these whales stick around, what would you call them? some suggestions already coming in including kirk and spock and one person says one whale can be called francisco, the other should be named after the person that spotted them. today is the final round of the at&t pebble beach pro-am golf tournament and there are surprises out there on the leaderboard. jim furyk has one shot lead to start the day after a remarkable run on the last 10 holes he placed yesterday and he has not won a tournament in more than four years. and two san francisco giant players, matt cain and buster

posey are tied in 13th among the amateur players and they are in today's final round. congrats to them for even making that final round. good golfers, good baseball players. >> unfair they get to golf. certainly a nice day to walk the greens today if you can make it down to monterey. rosemary, looking good down there too? >> yes. but we are talking near 80 degrees if you're going to monterey. >> wow. i have covered that tournament in the past and it's been dumping rain where you kind of slosh through it. >> we would gladly trade this sunny, 80-degree weather in for rain, but, yeah, not going to happen. every time i go camping, it rains so i got a facebook message from jenelle, she says when you go camping it rains, it's time to book that trip, rosemary. >> exactly, exactly. >> good point. >> might be worth a shot. i can't control the weather. take a look at what's happening outside our doors this morning, an enjoyable day yesterday, another one in store for today. today a near repeat. the only change i could really

find this morning, a little bit of patchy fog developing through the delta and in the north bay but looks like it's already out of here so as you saw from the shot over san francisco, we are starting out with mostly sunny skies, mild to warm once again and unfortunately the extended models don't want to bring us any rain, it looks like through the end of the month. seeing just a little blip right in here and it looks very unimpressive and we are so far out it's even hard to of course hang our hat on that. so another dry stretch possible as we get into the second half of february. now, with that said we have updated the numbers here for rainfall for the season, san jose nick% of normal and we've got -- 96% of normal and san jose 126% of the norm. december did us well and then the wet system come through recently, couple storms brought us much needed rain. unfortunately the sierra snowpack suffering more than we are because they were warm storms and we didn't see a huge dumping of snow.

it is a beautiful day. it is a beautiful shot over the concord area this morning. we have green grass and plenty of sunshine. our temperatures are rising as well. just how warm we are going to get. let's start out with storm tracker two showing you that again. it is hard to find the high clouds this morning. that ridge of high pressure is shifting in just a little bit. you can see from the flow up and over and we have those high clouds just over northern california. for us we woke up with just a little bit of patchy fog. this is keeping that rain track well to the north. in fact, with the mostly

sunny skies above normal numbers we are looking at this at least through the next several days. some of the future cast models that go way out want to keep us dry all the way until the end of the month. it does not look like anything strong. of course it could change between now and then and we'll be tracking it for you. right now it looks pretty great. it is a beautiful day 52 degrees in napa this morning. 59 for san francisco. upper 60s around sfo and half-moon bay at 63 outside your door. as we head to the north bay we are at 62 degrees. we got lafayette sitting at 56 degrees and 65. temperatures more mild up above 1000 feet.

low 60s for antioch. 60 degrees for pittsburgh. all 70s. you pick where you like to be and i will tell you the chance is are--into the south bay and warmer numbers in areas like gilroy, 77 for today and 75 in saratoga. santa cruz upper 70s. yesterday, they broke the old record by a degree or two. along the peninsula we have 71 in san bruno. 72 in san francisco. and those 70s just keep oncoming. we are talking of low 70s for half-moon bay as well as pacific. the extended forecast here, temperatures due fall off if you have president's day, tomorrow is a holiday for you. we got partly cloudy skies as we start in the morning. and that's when we are

is it for people who like to surf or love yoga or people that's just crazy enough to try ig. everything. >> it is a great rehab tool because it is soft. if you have ankle injuries or knee injuries, it is still great. if you always wanted to learn how to surf because of sharks and cold water, so we tell people to come. >> i am so paranoid of sharks. >> can you give us one example that you guys do the most of. >> a quick pop up. so they paddle out like they are surfing and they're going to pop up into what we call a surf position. they get on there and pretend to ride that wave in and give the board a little rocking showing you are using all your leg muscle to get that board to rock. >> can we try it? >> definitely. >> come on rosemary. >>
