a billion-dollar breach at some of the biggest banks in the world and it was years in the making. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. it's been called one of the biggest bank breaches ever. a new report out today says for the past two years, close to a billion dollars has been stolen from banks around the world by cyber hackers. brian flores joins us live with the advanced way hackers were able to do this. good afternoon. >> good afternoon to you. about an hour ago, we talked with the managing editor of a

cybersecurity group that authored the findings. he said this was one of the more advanced he's ever seen. the hackers would get into the system and send what looks like an innocent e-mail from one bank employee to another. the person who opens the attachment thinking it is from a coworker, unknowing ily releases malware into the system and that will record key stokes, and bank info back to the hackers and the hackers would steal the money. the report said they would limit their theft to $10 billion. they say this has been going on since 2013 because of nondisclosure agreements none of the banks have been named. the report indicates at least three dozen banks in the u.s. were targeted. the report comes on the heels of president obama's business to stanford about i've-- cybersecurity. he signed and order.

as for the hackers in this case, the hackers are well- coordinated and very hard to track. >> they would change a balance in your account. your account would have $100,000 and they would then up that amount to a million dollars and then transfer the $900,000 out. >> experts also say the attacks are unusual because they target banks themselves and not individualious commerce. the report says the hackers would transfer money to fake accounts in the u.s. and china. and other times the hackers could program atms to dispense cash for others within the group to pick up. according to the report also, most of the targets are banks in russia, the u.s., germany, china and ukraine. very intricate system. back to you. >> thank you. fire investigators say there is something unusual about a fire at an oakland school overnight that destroyed the cafeteria but they are not going so far as to call it

arson. cara lui shows us the damage and the big impact school officials say the fire will have. >> reporter: at claremont middle school, the cafeteria is gutted. tables and chairs burnt to a crisp. crews are assessing the damage seeing if the electricity and water can be turned back on. meanwhile, there's question about whether students will be able to come back to school tomorrow. >> if school was cancelled, i don't want to alarm that we won't have school because the fire was primarily located in the kitchen area. and there are other ways we would be able to provide lunch the and the rest of the school day could continue close to normal. >> reporter: investigators believe the fire broke out before 2:00 a.m. in the kitchen area. >> it's burnt up, a large part of the cafeteria, the kitchen area in particular is completely burnt. and then throughout the rest of the cafeteria, we've gotta pull ceilings down. >> reporter: investigators are

looking into unusual circumstances surrounding the fire. >> they found one of the doors was open to the calf feariaia which leads us to believe someone got in there before us. >> reporter: fire investigators will be looking to see if there's surveillance footage available in the moments leading up to the fire. this blaze is under investigation. and the possibility someone might have done this intentionally is upsetting to board member jody london. >> this is just unfair to children. this school has at least 60% of the children at this school qualified for free and reap duesed lunch. when they come to school every day, they are -- they need the nutrition that we're offering to them. >> reporter: in oakland, cara lui, ktvu channel 2 news. fnl. >> school district officials hope to know what the school will look like so parents can plan accordingly in case classes are canceled or moved. san jose firefighters are

looking into the cause of a fire that roared through the building that housed classic cars. it happened saturday morning. 24 hours later, firefighters were sit pulling out hot spots. the building at commercial and berryessa was home to a car upholstery and stereotype. the fire destroyed classic cars worth more than a miami dollars. a north bay couple is facing serious charges after the bomb squad seized dozens of devices at their home. the raid happened friday. law enforcement and the uc berkeley bomb squad removed more than 90 explosives from a car on arthur street and a home on pacheco avenue after getting calls about explosions in the area. they say the explosives were the type used in commercial fireworks. there was also suspected methamphetamine in the home. the couple who lived there, 43- year-old pl. orraine mason and robert speier were taken into custody. danish police have arrested

two men suspected of helping the gam who carried out the -- gunman who carry odd ut shooting attacks in komen hagan. he was killed in a shootout with the s.w.a.t. team. he opened fire at a cultural seminar with a swedish karn toonist known for his depictions of prophet mohammed. the documentary filmmaker was killed in the attack. the gunman went to a synagogue and killed a security guard. hundreds of people attended the candlelight vigil in paris honoring the victims of the two attacks. the memorial was held outside of the danish embassy and the ambassador came out and thanked everyone for their solidarity. 17 people were killed in terror attacks in france last month. egypt strikes back one day after a video surfaces showing the beheadings. they've launched airstrikes against isis there. the white house says it

supports the response by egypt while strongly condemning the terror attacks by isis. fox news correspondent joel waldman has more from washington. >> reporter: egyptian war planes targeted targets deep inside libya. this comes after isis released a video showing the mass beheadings of crypt yans. they were holding 21 coptic christian workers. it's still unclear exactly how many were murdered. it's the first time cairo publicly acknowledged taking action in libya getting support from libyan armed force forces. the white house released a statement saying in part, the united states condemns the despicable and cowardly murder of 21 egyptian citizens in

out. >> reporter: shivering people slipping and sliding their way through the streets of boston after the fourth major storm in less than a month. roads are treacherous with record-breaking snow totals topping more than 7 feet in some areas. >> this is historic. we've never seen this type of know in this type of period in the history of the sit. >> reporter: hundreds of plows and road crews are working nonstop to clear lanes but high winds and frigid are making cleanup difficult. massachusetts's governor is asking people to stay inside if possible. >> roads that have been plowed will start to look like they haven't been in a short amount of time. we would encourage everyone to stay off the roads and to let the plows do their job. >> reporter: on cape cod, national guard troops are providing local fire crews are with specialized vehicle to help evacuate people caught by flooding. >> we've identified several areas that are along the beach front that people need to be evacuated. we can use their assistance with their vehicles to help

pretty intense snowfall rates. that's what they got. i think it's less than 1% of the time. 0.7% of the time. everything is east. we have record warm temperatures. we have a little change. some coastal fog has decided to return even though the water temps are about 59 degrees. the fog has made it into half moon bay and also daly city. inland, it doesn't matter. half moon bay at this time yesterday was 68 degrees. they are 54 and foggy this morning. fog also we talked about coming into daly which was 75. continued mild to warm. no rain but there is a sign of maybe a rather significant cooldown in about a week's time. you can see some of that fog now. it's not all up and down the coast. it's out there. some areas begin to fill in the san mateo, santa cruz coast. it's not making much of a move inland. but maybe tonight into tomorrow might get a boost. you can see there's plenty out there. summertime pattern everything

else -- it's like a hall of high pressure. that's giving warm air aloft. blue can up, 60. tahoe 55. truckee, 52. that's really warm. the fog will continue to make a cooler pattern over by the water's edge. it seems to be increasing a little bit. now that may ramp up a little bit tonight. but i don't think inland temps will be affected that much. it's mild. upper 60s for some to near 70. there are some low 70s south of market by van ness. i saw a 71-degree reading, redding 72. they hit 79 to tie a record high. california has cooled off a little bit. everything continues to be in the east. there will be another surge of accuse dirk air on thursday. they are talking about 30s and maybe 40s to miami by about thursday. temperatures in atlanta, maybe 10, 11 on thursday. the windchill was the big story this morning, especially in boston. it was 28 below at about 2:00

a.m. this morning. they are right on the water. and they were 3 below. still very cold. it was about 25, 30 below this morning. freezing rain throughout tennessee. that's the worst. snow to the north and rain to the south. for us, except for some high clouds and fog that's come back. that's a change from yesterday. there may be a low sneaking its way back from utah and nevada. that wouldn't be until sunday/monday. next couple of days look mild to warm. a little bit of a different exist teared to yesterday. cooler by the beaches. mild to warm. temperatures 60s for some to 70s. there's a good drop on some of the temperatures on the san mateo coast. 70s through the inland valleys, that's not gonna cool off that much. 2 to 4. santa cruz will start to come down. they were in the 78 os over the weekend -- in the 80s over the weekend. fog returns. it looks like a little cooler going into the week. we have to keep an eye on sunday and monday.
