thank you. california was the first right to put certain -- first state oput rights for transgender children into the -- to put rights for transgender children into the law. it went into effect january 1 last year. opponents tried to repeal it but couldn't get enough signatures. there are new developments in the labor bisputes a-- dispute along the west coast ports. a cargo carrier won't make deliveries to any west coast ports for months. ktvu's tom vacar is at the port tonight. this is a big blow. >> reporter: sheer the company involved -- here is the company involved. they announced today they are canceling more sailings frommationa to west coast ports -- from asian to west coast ports. a turn of events for the hundreds of thousands of

where the incident happened but investigators are still trying to figure out why. >> reporter: he looked down as he went before a judge. the 19-year-old sophomore is charged with attempted murder. accused of stabbing his roommate. >> the victim is lucky to be alived. the attack -- alive. >> the attack happened tuesday. the victim woke up to find him standing over him with a knife. >> stabbed in the throat. started struggling with the defendant. cut in the forhead as shoulder. >> the -- forehead and shoulder. >> reporter: he ran to a neighbor and they called 911. he turned the knife on himself and cut his neck. he was arrested outside the dorm. >> there were police cars and detectives and the second floor was closed off. >> reporter: she knows the victim and hopes he makes a

victim to have a roommate change. it can't accepted. the university refused to comment on it saying it was privacy issues for the students. >> thank you cristina rendon. report released today unveils details surrounding the deadly rampage last mayat ub barba . elliot rodger spent a year planning his attack. investigators also say he spent thousands on guns and ammunition and he had been practicing at shooting ranges. he began in his apartment where he stabbed his two roommates and their friend. all three of them were from the bay area. investigators believe that elliot rodger ambushed them as they entered the apartment. a dozen state senators introduced a bill to increase the number of school children

with vaccinations. they are backing senate bill 277. it would repeal the personal exemption that allows parents to opt out of vaccines. the measure would require schools to notify parents of the rates at their child's school. this comes as the state and the nation are dealing with the measles outbreak. two people are dead and 200 exposed to a superbug at ronald reagan ucla medical center. the cause contaminated medical equipment. cre. a small bacteria that is resist tonight antibiotics. 7 people have been infected. 179 may have been exposed. the potentially deadly bacteria could cause infections. ronald reagan ucla medical center says it may have been transmitted through two instruments that were sterilized but they are now using techniques that go above and beyond standards. doctors say this should be a

fargo museum in. the wells fargo museum in san francisco reopened today. customers, leaders and employees marked the reopening. thieves rammed a stolen suv through the doors. investigators say an armed man held a security guard at gun point while two others stole.

a former billionaire who is determined to give away all of his money donated $100 million to a bay area hospital. it was announced yesterday. his 50 to ucsf will support medical students and the facility. he has given $400 million to ucsf. he co-founded a company that runs duty free shops around the world. he was worth $7.5 billion but he transferred nearly all of that money to a private group

san jose police announced they have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a security guard last week. he was watching the door at a nightclub saturday night when there was a robbery next door. he rushed over to help and that is when someone opened fire. he ended up dying afterwards at the hospital. police have surveillance video from the liquor store. they say right now they are not releasing more information about the two people who are under arrest. new at 5:00 p.m. embezzlement involving a san francisco police officer and the bank records that are in the hands of the district attorney. the officer was the treasurer of one of the largest police

organizations in the city. ktvu's heather holmes has been digging into the finances. what did you find? >> i received a tip they were short thousands of dollars and bank statements trace the activities back to the one and only person with access to the expecter its atm card -- account and it is-- and its atm card. he was pressuring of the police police officer's pride alliance. they help members and hiring and job promotions. i spoke with a former board number about the finances and the -- member about the finances and questionable expenses.

they were all outside vietnamese businesses. two men were hurt. police arrested one man and their looking for another. ktvu's janine de la vega reports on what led up to the latest violence. >> reporter: drinking andhaing out with -- and hanging out with friends ended with gunfire. it started at 10:00 p.m. last night when an argument escalated and someone pulled out a gun. the owner called 911. >> couple people saw the guy -- [ indiscernible ] shoot and run. >> two men were wounded and taken to the hospital. >> one of the victims was in critical condition. he has been stabilized. we just keep monitoring the situation. the second victim is expected

to survive. >> police roped off the area and detain witnesses. police confirm they did arrest a man with assault with a deadly weapon but they are still looking for a second suspect. this is the 4th shooting that occurred at or near a vietnamese bar or restaurant. on saturday night a security guard was shot and killed trying to help stop a robbery suspect. and a few days before on the same street another man was killed in a shooting. on new year's day gunfire in the parking lot and a man was killed. >> something that is on our radar. as far as the police department is concerned. we will work with vice, abc and with our investigators and conduct follow up on -- if there is a connection. >> reporter: the bar has only been open two months. it used to be a vietnamese bar.

new information about the explosion at an exxon mobil refinery in torrance. the section of the refinery that was damaged in the explosion, was already offline for maintenance. it had been down for two days. it is still unclear how long repairs will take. four contractors was hat -- were hurt and it sent ash over the neighborhood nearby. part of the refinery remains shut down. prices that pump are going up because of the exxon mobil refinery explosion.

ktvu's alex savage was at one station this morning and he saw the price go up before his eyes. >> reporter: at this shell station in walnut creek the early birds got the cheaper gas. $2.85 a gallon when we arrived but they changed the signs bumping up prices by 4 cents. a regular at this station watched it happen live during mornings on 2. >> saw it on tv this morning. what can you do? >> reporter: you said that is my station. >> my station. my guy. that is how it is. >> reporter: what are you going to do? still filling up? >> $30 at a time so i don't feel the difference. >> reporter: analyst predict prices will increase 10 cents in the near future with two refinery problems in california.

there was yesterday's explosion at the exxon mobil refinery in torrance and the refinery in martinez remains shut down because of a labor dispute. after months of cheap gas drivers are bracing for a bumpy road ahead. >> bummer. we just bought a new tahoe too. i didn't expect that. i thought the prices would stay down for a few years. what can we do? >> nice while it lasted. expected it. i think everyone expected it. we were riding it while it was low. it will go up. >> reporter: around the bay area prices have been creeping up lately. jumping 1-2 cents since yesterday and over the last month prices have gone up 20 cents on average. even without the martinez strike or the exxon mobil refinery explosion, gas prices were bound to go up anyway. that is because this is the time of year when they switch

candlestick park is coming apart. a new stage of demolition began today as they began taking down the stair well there. that is prompting new concern from neighbors that say it puts them at risk. ktvu's david stevenson is here now with more on their concerns and what the team is doing about it. . >> reporter: as the work moves from inside to outside the park, neighbors have concerns about what is being done to keep dangerous dust from their homes. >> reporter: candlestick park had a different kind of beat

today. they began tearing away the exterior. the next phase of the demolition. >> hasn't been loud till today. you heard noises. you know they are working. >> reporter: neighbors took the noise in stride, though others say residents are at risk. >> what concerns me is the dust. >> she fought to keep it from being imploded but says the demolition leaves much to be desired. >> we have concerns about them violating the dust plan. >> the developer told ktvu fox 2 news there are dust inspections underway with air quality monitor stations on site. >> when we asked them about the monitors they showed it to us. >> reporter: the air quality management district says no issues have been detected so far. >> our monitors are sensitive so because they are located
