were shooting through that roof. >> instantaneously, the roof looked like it exploded with fire. >> we're told we can go by and salvage things, computers, passports, things like that. >> many of the residents weren't home at the time, and the case of the fire is still under investigation. three people were hotel in a hotel fire last night at the town house travel end on west mcarthur boulevard. firefight irs say the fire was contained to one room on the second floor. two people were inside at the time, and did suffer third- degree burns. the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but firefighters say it appears that misuse of flammable materials may have started that fire. >> oakland police are offering a reward for a hit-and-run driver that killed a man and injured another. it occurred on san pablo avenue

and 32nd street. marise summerfield is identified as the victim. a 46-year-old oakland man was injured. the driver of a light-colored buick sedan was seen leaving the scene. a home depot store was shot down weeks after police shot and killed a 38-year-old woman there. the protesters are chained themselves to the entrance of the home depot yesterday morning, demanding that home depot release surveillance video from february 3rd when yvette end season was killed not far from the store. home depot said it only releases video to police, but store management would not say if it has done so. protesters say the death of henderson is part of a larger problem of african-americans being killed by police. >> in 2015 we are stopping business as usual. you cannot gill couple our people time and time again.

highs as we began a cooling trend. full forecast coming up. >> the chm is investigating a sing -- chp is investigating a single car crash that killed a driver yesterday. according to highway patrol, the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. the car went down into a vineyard and slipped over several times. chp says weather may have also played a factor in that crash. >> conditions at the time were pretty heavily fogged in, and visibility was limited. >> the mail driver was in his late 30 tos. investigators have not yet released other details about the victim. >> a 300-foot plunge off the side of an oakland cliff. it happened yesterday morning near marlboro terrace off a of highway 24. firefighters say the men were

well, it's the super bowl of auto racing. today marks the beginning of the nascar season with the daytona 500, but also mark this final year of racing for bay area native jeff gordon. he he post 0ed the 13thth -- he posted the 13th fastest speed of the day in practice. he became a full time drive arer for hendrick motor sports in 1993, and last month he announced this would be his final season as a full-time driver. >> this is one of the most gratifying polls i've ever had here at daytona. >> he'll start alongside his

teammate, jimmie johnson, in the front row. one of the big name drivers who won't be in today's race is kyle busch. he slammed into a concrete barrier yesterday. tom, a lot of safety concerns being raised. here we are just a few hours before that flag drops. reporter: yeah, you know, a lot of people, especially the drivers, took to social media after this happened last night, and really secured nascar, and daytona speedway. if you haven't seen kyle busch's crash, we're going to show it to you right now. it's a little tough to watch. he got caught up in the big one from this race, and ended up in the concrete barrier going into turn 1. there is no safety barrier there to absorb the impact of that hit. he was going close to 100 miles an hour. he was able to pull himself out of the car, which is amazing when you consider are they took him to the hospital last night, and he has a compound fracture

racers, a lack of snow in the sierra is forcing organizers to call it off. in the races 39-year history, be they had only been canceled once before 2011, and there wasn't enough in 2012, 2014, and now this winter season. >> is a special vessel doctor at jack london square. a fuel scale replica -- a full- scale replica of a ship. what are you checking out now? >> well, this is the hawaiian chief tan, a trading ship. the captain send he stunt like to call this a trading ship, but the realty is 200 years ago, the pirates and merchants all used the same kind of vessels, and this is it. the ship is 103 feet wide.

the main mast is 75 feet tall. this is a functional sailing ship. so when this shim is out at sea, they have people who climb up that mast and untie the sales. a pretty impressive so it's here on the bay. they also have this ship and the lady washington, the sister ship, are out here. and from 2:00 to 5:00 today, they'll bring people on board and give them a little history lesson, but then also some excitement. they do some reenacles of what cannon battle would have been like 200 years ago between these 18th century ships. this is a three-pound cannon. it's not because it weighs 3 pounds. but it shoots 3-pound cannonballs. they won't be shooting these, though. here is the captain talking about what they will be able to
