ildren's hospital in oakland. 11:15 a.m. this morning when the fire department got a call to respond to albany middle school. firefighters say the initial call was a medical emergency. students had become ill. the school district did not say where or what the students were doing before getting sick on campus. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> i don't know. i believe they were all conscious. but i cannot confirm if they remained that way. >> reporter: the superintendent says it was the staff at the school that first got word of students ingesting pills but she did not clarify how they found out. she said she does not know what type of pills the students ingested. >> we want our students to come to school ready to learn, being happy, healthy, safe individuals and we do our best to make sure we get that

message across. >> reporter: the superintendent says the female students are in the 7th and 8th grade. she did not know if they were all friends. the hospital hasn't returned our calls but the fire department said all the students are expected to survive. i put in a call to the police department. they said the incident at the middle school is under investigation. >> they are not telling you if they took something illegal or perhaps something like cold medicine. >> reporter: you are right. two separate investigations. the police department saying hey, you know, we are investigating and the school district hasilities own investigation but -- has its own investigation but no details. >> glad it looks like they will be okay. thank you. five people behind bars after a wild police chase, a crash and a man hunt. ktvu's john sasaki is in martinez with more on what

happened and how the case may be connected to colorado. john? >> reporter: frank,frank, the highway patrol has caught the group and now they are tied to a crime in denver. >> crash in martinez. and then the five occupies scattered into the neighborhood. >> we were informed we had armed and dangerous suspects. >> reporter: we caught one suspect in custody and a police dog searching for others. this is a group they needed to catch. >> we arrested a fifth suspect. a female adult. and she was arrested for her involvement. >> that is what had res dependents concerned knowing these people who were being chased by police were on the loose. >> you see 5 or 6 police cars, at least, and they are telling you to stay put.

to her face. a command post was set up and searchers looked through the night for the baby. then this morning the sad discovery, the child's body was found. >> 10 minutes to 10 this morning, deputies from the yolo county sheriff's office, search and rescue located the body of an infant. [ silence ] >> over on the slough. not too far from where the missing person was located tonight. >> reporter: they are working to determine the cause of death. the mother was taken to the hospital but has been released as investigators search for answers. family, friends and members of the community are planning to hold a candlelight vigil

tonight at the opera house. >> thank you. new information about the train and truck collision in southern california that happened yesterday. national weather service investigators -- national transportation safety board say the truck was not stuck on the tracks. the truck traveled down for some distance. 28 people were injured. the driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run. his attorney says he was trying to get his truck off the tracks and that he didn't run away, he was going for help. he will be arraigned tomorrow. the senate reached an agreement to vote on a clean bill funding the department of human services before funding runs out. speaker of the house john boehner is waiting waiting for the senate to act. they are separating the bill

jurors in the american sniper murder trial are speaking out about how they arrived at a verdict so quickly. it took just three hours to convict eddie ray routh for the 93rd murder of "american sniper" author chris kyle and chad littlefield. attorneys said he had posttraumatic stress disorder bottegasser did not believe it -- but jurors did not believe it was to blame. >> every time something bad happened he pulled that card. >> the case is that heart of the movie american sniper. jurors were allowed to watch the movie but they said it

played no role in their decision. attorneys are planning an appeal. southwest canceled a dozen flights after learning the planes missed required safety inspections. southwest canceled 10 flights out of oakland today and two out of sfo. 80 across the country. this stems from a decision to ground 128. they were taken out of service because southwest said it missed required safety inspections of back up rutter systems. that had some southwest passengers concerned. >> that is part of flying is that you depend on the airline safety. i mean, they are putting your life in their hands. >> the faa has agreed to left southwest continue while the inspections of the 128 planes are completed.

police dashcam. investigators say a main was cracked and and the main traveled into the home where a water flame triggered the explosion. crew were trying to fix the leak when it happened. the area was evacuated. 15 workers and emergency responders were injured. >> happened so quickly. the explosion. we had debris all around us. >> very lucky, you know, to -- could have traveled up more. >> two people remain hospitalized. one in critical condition. 13 others were sent home. there is nothing left of the home and they are assessing how many homes were damaged in the explosion. a new plan that would ban b.a.r.t. workers from going on strike. they introduced a bill that would do that. ktvu's tom vacar is here now with a look at the bill and how it would work. >> reporter: it would leave both sides of this argument with not very great

p.m. starts now. three years and little progress in the murder case of sierra lamar and tonight the frustration is growing for family, friends and volunteers who are still searching for the body of the 15-year-old girl. >> three years later. how do you call that fair? >> good evening everyone. hello. i am frank somerville. >> and i am julie haener. >> next month marks three years since sierra lamar was last seen near her south bay home. and her killer is still awaiting the trial. a judge once gen postponed the date for antolin garcia-torres. new developments from ktvu's azenith smith. the delay has to be extremely frustrating for the family. >> reporter: the family was not in the courtroom. they have never been in court to see antolin garcia-torres. her father says they were

planning to go, and now all of this seems like broken record. >> reporter: a scenario that is playing out over and over again in the case of 15-year-old sierra lamar who vanished three years ago. antolin garcia-torres accusedantolin garcia-torres accused of murdering the teen. >> disappointing. they just keep prolonging it. discovery, trying to get it ready. to me and the rest of the crew, we think it is excuses. >> reporter: the judge postponing setting a trial date for another six weeks. antolin garcia-torres attorneys are hesitant to commit to a trial. >> i would say this is not an unexpected delay. >> reporter: he was arrested in 2012. two months after sierra lamar vanished on her way to school. a grand jury indicted him last year. experts say the reason why the
