stadium. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. this should be interesting, steve. the weather we see this morning, we won't see this evening. >> not at all. today will be breezy, cooler. low clouds are making a move here. it will be a dramatic change. the bigger change, though, is saturday as that low up visiting seating and portland starts to dive into northern california and i think makes a good carve right out over the bay area and all to the sierra. they will take the brunt of this. low clouds, breezy. windy and cooler. that breeze is picking up. it's more out of the west. we've had light rain towards eureka, crescent city and fort bragg. not a lot but they are on the southern edge of that. 42 napa. 56 sfo. there's some that are cool. some are on the mild side even though we're getting that breeze picking up. 14 out of the west. novato west, west fairfield.

there is a lot for the sierra nevada. winter weather advisory starts this afternoon. sooner you go the -- bet the better. the wind picks up. already seeing upper 50s and 60s. not the upper 60s and 70s. sal, we had a couple of issues earlier. how are things now? >> trouble in san jose, northbound 280. the traffic is very slow because of an accident as you head up to sunnyvale and cupertino northbound 280 at the lawrence expressway. you can see how slow the traffic is here getting up past this 17 interchange. it's backed up into downtown san jose. the accident, which i will put on the map, is northbound 28 on the the lawrence expressway. there was also a car fire associated with this. the fire department and rescue crews are there. happily, there is -- there are some good alternate routes. 85 is not that bad. 101 is lighter than usual. you will see slow traffic on the freeways.

but i would say it's better than it normally is in the areas. move along to the contra costa commute. that's lighter than usual. a little bit of slow traffic here and there on 680 and highway 4. but otherwise doing pretty well. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see the traffic is backed up for about a 25-minute, 30-minute delay at the toll plaza. 7:0. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. an investigation is underway into a deadly police shooting in san francisco. two plain clothes officers say they had no choice but to shoot a man armed with a itch can -- with a kitchen knife. tara moriarty is live to let us know how the investigation is being handled there. >> reporter: police chief greg suhr says a town hall meeting will be held in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. we know that late last night and into the early-morning hours, investigators were busy talking to at least eight people who witnessed this shooting. it happened last night around 10:45, two plain clothes officers saw a man holding a

kiffin knife and chasing a bicyclist down folsom from 25th to 4th. the plain clothes officers were on patrol and responded to a help for an unmarked police car. the suspect pulled out a long kitchen nich and was trying to steal his bicycle when police stepped in. >> in interviews the victim, the victim told the captain that he was coming after me with a knife this big. that is -- the knife was not that big. however, it is large. he thanked the captain saying you guys saved my life. >> reporter: chief suhr says officers told the suspect to drop his weapon before they opened fire and he did not. investigators found six shell casings at the scene and so far, the identity of the suspect has not been released. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you, tara. 7:04. san francisco police officer accused of using excessive force during a confrontation with a homeless man on a muni

bus. this happened on february 11th. it was captured by surveillance video. look at this. the bus driver told police, the homeless man was asleep and refused to leave the bus. the video shows police officer raymond chu apparently trying to rouse the man identified as beraround warren. the situation -- bernard warren. the situation escalated when warren told him to stop touching him and threatened to beat up the officer. [bleep] >> he made some comments to the officer who immediately takes the situation and turns into something violent. >> officer chu used his police baton and pepper spray to make the arrest. warren is facing a misdemeanor charge of threatening a police officer. police chief greg suhr says he's reviewed the incident. he thinks the use of force was justified. an oakland man is in jail

this morning accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl and forcing her into hue map trafficking. 32-year-old patrick leo simmons is due to appear in court later today. an undercover operation led officers to a motel in sunnyvale. now, according to the santa clara county d.a.'s office, simmons met the teenager on social media. undercover agents arranged for a date with the girl through a website. they recovererred her through a -- recovered her through a motel room. they found simmons nearby with $6500 in cash and a motel key. >> he had sexually abused her. he was aware of her age and that he had also physically assaulted her. >> simmons is being held on $1 million bail. he could face up to 15 years in state prison if convict on all charges. menlo college has dropped its football program but still

some. students and the alumni they are fighting to get it back. today they will hold a rally on the school's campus. they will protesting the board's decision last month to drop football after 29 years. a petition on causes.com called save menlo football it already has more than 1700 signatures. now, only 750 students go to menlo college. it was the fifth smallest division three school with a football program. college officials say it makes no finance am sense to keep that football-- finance am sense to keep that football program. san jose earthquakes have had a chance to try out their brand-new field. starting tomorrow thousands of fans will get their chance to check it out. janine de la vega joins us now in san jose where the arena officially opens with a ribbon- cutting ceremony later today. hi, janine. >> reporter: hi, tori. yeah. now that it's daylight, it looks great. take a look here at the stadium. you can see it's shaped line a

horseshoe. it really has this open view to traffic passing by here on coleman avenue. the scoreboard is double sided so people on the outside will be able to share in the exhibitment of the game -- excitement of the game. a ribbon--cutting ceremony will be held at 1:30 this afternoon. many in major league soccer are talking about how it may be the best in the league. there's 18,000 seats and the proximity to the field is unmatched because it has the steepest rake seating in the league. the upon lairty of soccer has grown. an -- it has the largest outdoor bar in northern california, the two-acre fan stone, and the double-sided board. like levi stadium, fans will be able to use their mobile devices to order concessions from the stands and season ticketholders will get a chance to bach the last preseason game together -- watch the last

preseason game tomorrow when the quakes host the galaxy. i want to give you sort of a feel of where we're located. right next to the stadium, there is actually a plot of vacant land. this is behind the airport and the city really worked with the earthquakes about managing traffic on game days. the vta will have a shuttle that will make round trips in the downtown area to help ease any congestion. tori? >> all right. looks like a great stadium. thank you. 7:09. a scientific breakthrough may some day lead to same-sex couples having their own biological children. researchers in england they are trying to convert adult skin cells into embree ontic-like stem cells. supporters hope this process will allow scientists to take the cells of gay couples and turn them into egg and sperm cells that would lead to a

baby. researchers caution creating a child through this means is still a long way off. but they believe it's possible. there is a proposal in sacramento to top charging sales tax on baby diapers. san diego assemblywoman lorena gonzalez stays the bill introduced would put money back into the pockets of working class families. the average family they say would save about $100 a year. but the plan would cost the state between $50 million and $70 million a year in tax revenue. some of the mothers have fixed meals about -- feelings about this. >> i don't know it will be such a huge cost savings. >> i think if you have multiple kids in diapers and they are younger than mine, $10 on tax, that really adds up. >> this measure would only apply to baby diapers. so far, we're not hearing about any on mow sigs to the plan -- opposition to the plan in sacramento. you may have noticed price at the pump continues to go up. california's average for

regular unleaded is now $3.03 a gallon. that's the first time prices have been above $3 since christmas. however, the average is still well below the $3.80 a gallon we were paying a year ago. here's the quick look at where we stand in the bay area in the major cities. in san francisco, it's costing drivers an average of $3.23 a gallon to fill up. in san jose, it's costing around 3.16. in oakland, drivers are paying about 3.13. i know i -- for a while, it was below $30 to fill up the tank. now it's creeping up to $38. >> i was predicting by the end of the week, it would be 4 bucks. >> not quite. >> not quite. 7:11. there is another warning this morning for b.a.r.t. riders. coming up at 7:30, who may have been exposed to the measles and who is most at risk. but first, president obama speaks out on recreational marijuana. the plan he outlines that would decriminalize pot.

welcome back to "mornings on 2." our time is 7:14. the health department in marin county warning about a possible resurgence and comeback of polio. now, polio was eliminated years argue. it terrorized the nation for years. it affected thousands of children in the late 1940s and early '50s before there was a vaccine discovered. doctors are warning that low vaccination rates could put the public at for polio again. families have chosen to opt out of one or more of the required

childhood vaccines. oakland's minimum wage is taking a step up monday. it will jump from $9 to $12.25 an hour. voters overwhelmingly passed proposition ff last november. it's very welcomed news for an estimated 48,000 low-wage workers in the city. >> it's not like -- i'm not worried about making rent, living pay to check now. >> i can relax almost knowing that i'm having extra income for all of the extra stuff i want to do. >> but for places like restaurants that employ those workers, the pay increase poses a dilemma, some say they will have to raise prices but one restaurant, homestead says it will let customers know they no longer have to leave a tip since workers are getting a raise. >> other cities are raising their minimum wages. san francisco's goes to 12.25 an hour. but not until may 1st.

berkeley goes up to 11 and california's statewide get as boost to 10 an hour next year. that can add up. >> it can. thank you. hey, sal, everybody behaving for you now. you've had a busy morning. >> it's a little bit slow in some areas. as a matter of fact, dave and tori, we still have some slow traffic on 280 northbound in san jose. northbound 280 getting up to highway 17. this is because of an accident that's clearing from the lawrence expressway. it was blocking lanes for quite a bit and traffic is still very slow in the area. northbound 280 at the lawrence expressway and all lanes have been open now for just a little bit. maybe ten minutes or so. buts traffic definitely still unwinding. you can see that the traffic on the map, i'm gonna show it to you. traffic will be unwinding. that crash has been cleared from the lanes. we're looking at the commute in contra costa county. that's looking like friday night as you drive through.

let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up for a 20- minute delay before you make it onto the span. 7:16. today's forecast, here's steve. >> thank you, sir. the change already, the low clouds have come back. it's not complete. it's not widespread. but there is a lot more today than we've seen in a while. they are pushing pushed ahead by the low up in the pacific northwest. the tail end is sending in light rain, especially towards cret of thent -- cecht-- dash crescent city and fort bragg. it will have an impact over the weekend with colder conditions. snow in the sierras. some areas may not get rain. others maybe .5. thunderstorms, possibly of hail as we go into the weekend. saturday is the main best bet. of the sierra, it starts today at 1:00 and goes until tomorrow for a winter weather advisory. .25 to maybe .30. i think santa cruz mountains south could get .50. low clouds, breezy. that wind is picking u increasing cloud.

they are starting to build up. a little teaser system goes pie. we're still -- goes by. we're still waiting. by this afternoon, that cold air begins to filter in. a couple of low 40s. napa. nkg redwood city, we're 55. the breeze is kind of the key out of the west. fairfield out of the west, concord out of the west oakland, north napa airport. but west 13 at novato. i've seen gusts to 13 at sfo. it's breezy and blustery conditions. there's the low. pretty dynamic. it will weaken a little bit as it moves south. gives us a dramatic -- dramatic change. lows 45 to 55 for most. turning cloudy by this afternoon. rain on saturday. more showery in nature. southern california will get in on this as well. sierra is the key. 4,000-foot snow level will be dropping by saturday evening. maybe 3500 feet. 5, 10 inches be could be higher

inches of snow. you get up around 7,000 feet. sun in the morning. some clouds. cooler, breezy. upper 50s, 60s, could be a local drizzle near the coast as well. lows mid-60s upper 50s i think there's too much coldary air on the -- cold air on the way. temperatures will be down 10 from yesterday. that will not be the case starting today and taking us into the weekend. saturday is the best opportunity for rain. and then it goes into southern california on sunday. kind of a cool, breezy pattern going forward. >> any accumulation for tomorrow? >> i think .25 to .50. maybe some hail. >> that much. adult residents to privately smoke pot and grow up to three marijuana plants. president obama says it really doesn't make sense to give recreational marijuana users the amount of prison time as violent drug offenders. >> there is a lot of concern about drug abuse of any sort by our children and the general population verses the heavy criminalization of nonviolent drug offenses. >> the city and states don't have to punish users with stiff prison sentences. 7:20. san francisco's new 628 area code, it's creating a frustrating and expensive problem around the city. last weekend, san francisco's new 628 area code took effect. so now everyone with a 415 area code, you have to dial a 1 first to make a local call. it turns out most apartment building intercom systems they

are not programmed to dial that extra digit. >> the entry systems are a phone system. it needs to call someone's phone number. it needs to dial 1-415 in addition to the other seven digits. one of the big problems is delivery people and others who can't get into buildings. we're told that newer intercoms would be reprogrammed for a couple of hundred bucks. but replacing an older system could cost as much as $5,000. >> it's trillion interesting how there's these long-term ramifications and a lot of people have to reprogram their cell phone. >> yeah. 7:21. well, this is all the buzz on social media. everyone is talking about this in the newsroom. this dress. what's all the hype? coming up at 7:45, the scientific reason people are so confused about its color. an unusual discovery in san francisco's delowe bess park -- delores park. the new concerns and questions

authorities tell a missouri newspaper, eight bodies were found in at least five separate location. here's some of the photos from the investigation. police responded to the first scene last night after a girl said she heard gunshots in her own home. she managed to escape. when the authorities arrived, they found two bodies inside her home. investigators later found five other people shot to death at three other homes just a short distance from each other. the gunman, a 36-year-old man was also found dead inside of a parked car. now, investigators haven't released any information about the relationship between the victims and that suspect but they are planning to hold a news conference later today. well, back here at home,

more than 10,000 dollars has been raised to help the family of a food vendor hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver. a gofundme site has been set up for the family. his fruit stand was whet up on white road and mount vista drive on saturday, february 21st when he was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver. his wife was also hurt. the couple has three young children. 25-year-old marco chimaly is facing murder and dui charges in connection with that crash. prosecutors say he had had eight beers before the crash. san francisco's delores park has a guinea big pig -- pig problem. a gardener reported seeing seven of the critters unking around. animal control was only able to capture one of them. this could lead to a problem because they multiply quickly

and dig. they say they've also seen chicken, rabbits and kittens. it was three hours of llama drama after two animals got loose in sun city, arizona. they were being taken to a senior care facility for a mobile petting zoo yesterday. when they were outside, they got spooked and quickly made a break for it. the chase was on. there were times people got close to capturing them. after about a half-hour, they were able to catch the black one there. a man rode up in the back of a pickup truck and was able to get the white llama. shock and outrage over a racist attack. five cars vandalized in one night. the angry messages being investigated as a possible hate crime. >> reporter: and there is a new measles warning out this

morning for b.a.r.t. riders after an infected passenger potentially exposed hundreds of fellow riders. we'll tell you the rain that person was riding on -- the train that person was riding on coming up. we're looking at a commute here where traffic is going to be okay on some areas but slow in the south bay. northbound 280 traffic is slow getting up to highway 17. we'll tell you more about that. well, the low clouds are making pretty good push and the wind is picking up. big changeses on the way for friday. more on saturday. we'll talk about that and finally some snow in the sierra.

coming up on 7:30. good morning. you are taking a live look at the civic center b.a.r.t. station in san francisco where there is a warning for b.a.r.t. riders this morning. coming up in two minutes, alex savidge will explain the possible measles exposure and who is most at risk. it's friday, february 27th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. i did duck outside. >> it's a beautiful morning. >> but steve says it will change. >> it will change by this afternoon and tonight. it's already changing a little bit. there's a lot more low clouds than the past couple of mornings. the breeze is onshore. that will signal a cooldown. the low, though, really won't

alive until tonight and tomorrow and that's when the biggest changes will take place. we'll get some rain. the sierra will get snow. low clouds for some and the breeze picking up. turning cloudy, windy and cooler. there's been very light rain to the north. i think we'll have to wait for this to build up a little bit. nothing right now really showing up. 40s and 50s. mostly mid-50s. the breeze, some of that low cloud deck is keeping the low clouds up. the breeze is not that strong for much. they've had gusts to 30. west at livermore showing more of a southeast at hayward. that's the dynamic low. it's too far to the north. but it will give the sierra anywhere 5, 10, maybe a foot after everything is said and done. the snow level will be coming down late friday into saturdays. sun in the morning. some low clouds and then clouds increasing. cooler and breezy. the wind picks up for everybody later on. 50s and 60s. all right, sal. i know you've had a busy morning. still that way? >> yes. still busy.

we have the south bay all of a sudden, not doing that well. we'll have a couple of crashes. northbound 101 at the great america parkway there's a new crash there. 101 was the alternate for 280 which was already slow. before we go to the picture, 85 is getting into the act with slow traffic. haven't had any crashes but it's slow as you come up to saratoga. all three freeways getting action. let's get a live look at 280 northbound. we had an earlier accident at the lawrence expressway. this is not what you want to see on friday. it's not that way right now. when you get to the bsh, it's not lighter than usual. it's pretty normal. backed up for 20 minutes before you make it on the bridge. back to the desk. okay. well, as many as 1500 b.a.r.t. riders and hundreds of people in berkeley may have been exposed to measles. last night, the city of berkeley issued a measles

alert. it said an adult from san mateo county visited la medeterania restaurant last friday night. anyone in the restaurant between 6:45 and 10:00 p.m. may have been exposed to measles. experts advise those people just monitor themselves for symptoms until march 13th. well, the possible b.a.r.t. exposure to measles also happened last friday. alex savidge is at the civic center b.a.r.t. station now. you have details on the possible risk to riders. >> reporter: yeah, we do. good morning to you. it was one week ago today, according to health officials when an infected passenger rode a b.a.r.t. train from millbrae here in san francisco and got off at the civic center station where we've been all morning. health officials say they are concerned this person exposed as many as 1500 fellow passengers to the highly contagious virus.

that person sick with the measles is from san mateo county. that's all we know. they boarded a richmond bound train last friday at the station around 4:30 in the afternoon and got off here in san francisco about a half-hour later. now, even people who weren't in close contact with the infected riders potentially would have been exposed. that's because that measles virus would have remained and live and airborne up to two hours. health officials point out that the risk of becoming infected is quite low if riders have been immunized. this morning b.a.r.t. riders are weighing in on this latest measles warning. >> they have to stop letting people not get the shots. that's preventive maintenance. don't do it anymore. that's the problem. don't think it's any good. >> reporter: this is the second warning about measles that's gone out to b.a.r.t. riders recently. you probably remember earlier

this month. b.a.r.t. officials let the people know about a possible outbreak. so far this year, there's been 126 cases reported statewide. many have been tied to the disney theme parks down in southern california. anyone who believes that they may have been on the same train as the infected b.a.r.t. passenger from san mateo county should obviously watch out for any symptoms of the measles, especially, dave, if they have not been immunized before. >> thank you. sonoma county sheriff deputies are investigating a suspicious death at a rural farmhouse. a body was found before noon yesterday at a home on rose avenue east of highway 101 in pen grove. the death was reported by someone who went to the home and found the body. when investigators arrived, they roped off the area with

crime scene tape. neighbors say an older man and his sister lived in the house. the home is surrounded by horse pastures and chicken coops which neighbors say the owners often rented out. >> i know they wented out the pastures for horses but -- i'm not here enough to see what happened. i mean as far as any wrongdoings going on. >> investigators spent the day at the scene but so far they've released very little information about this case. police in suisun city are investigating a disturbing incident involving racist graffiti. on sunday morning at least five cars were vandalized. all of them had racial or hateful messages spray painted on them in red paint. two of the car's owners are single mothers, both african- american. another man's minivan had the word "die" spray painted on the side. the vandalism was not caught

you by any surveillance cameras but has police can vanceing the area looking -- canvassing the area looking for leads. they are doing everything they can to catch whoever is responsible. >> we have a duty to them to figure out what happened. if it's just an act of vandalism, that's one thing. but until we know that, we'll take it seriously. >> one of the cars had its windows bashed in but nothing was stolen. the chief scad he's hoping someone with information will come forward. a display at swastikas at a home is sparking a debate over freedom of speech. yesterday more than a dozen lawmakers demanded a homeowner remove the swastikas displayed on the front of his house. according to reports, he told police what he did was art and that people don't under it. critics say the display is racist and vulgar. police were called to investigation but a spokesperson for the department said the display is protected by the first amendment. so there's nothing they can do. it's now coming down to

hours before the funding for the department of homeland security runs out. washington lawmakers are considering two very different bills. brian flores here in the studio to tell us what that means and give us an update on what the senate and the house are doing right now, brian. >> here's what's going on -- the senate and house are going on two separate tracks. one proposal calls for funding with no strings attached. another will only fund dhs for a few weeks. this is where we stand, though. senate poised to fund the department for the rest of the fiscal year which ends in september of next year. the house is proposing funding the department for just three weeks. the main sticking point in the republican-led house is president obama's immigration actions which is tied to the funding bill. in any case, both sides are under a tight deadline to get something done. >> they are almost falling down on the job. that's notable when we're talking about something as important as funding the

department of homeland security. >> the speaker brought a vote to the floor that funded what i believe an unconstitutional action, i -- i won't be part of funding something unconstitutional. i believe that's a dereliction of my oath of office. >> there could be a shutdown. aboutthe workers that did have to go to work wouldn't get paid. it's about the message that the shutdown brings. some say it portrays a bad message to the american people and the world that the funding cannot be done in time. there is a new program that gives driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants here in california, it's reached a major milestone. since the program started seven weeks ago, the dmv has issued

110,000 drivers licenses in the u.s. illegally. applicants, just like all drivers have to pass both a written and a road test. california expects to issue 1.4 million licenses in this program over the next three years. 7:40. two suspected vandals had to be rescued after trying to escape authority bis climbing down a steep rock face. the men were spotted yesterday afternoon at an old military installation. they ran away from rangers. one of the men had to be rescued by a chp helicopter. park rangers were able to pull the other up with rope. the men were then arrested. a south bay wildlife rescue is treating a rare bird that was injured when it collided with a remote-controlled model airplane. a hawk was brought in on

unfortunately. the south bay is where we're gonna start. remember i told i about highway 101 at the get america parkway -- at the great america parkway? it's not doing that well -- we kind of got soiled on these fridays where we're expecting things to be easy and light and that's just not the case right now in the south bay. in fact, i can put up the map of the south bay. we had an accident earlier. northbound 280 at lawrence. that's gone. we had an accident at get america park waif -- great america parkway. this is just heavier than we've seen it. as we move to the livermore valley, most of livermore and dublin traffic is looking good. we had an earlier accident on the altamont pass. on 80 westbound, you can see traffic will be busy as you drive through richmond. there is a crash at the toll plaza. can i put it on the map here. it's just past the toll. now you can see slow traffic here as you drive west. this is -- this had been a good

commute but now it's not. at the bay bridge toll plaza, it's about a 15 to 20 minute delay just at the toll plaza alone. it's also sluggish on that bridge as you get into san francisco. it's 8:0 2. back to the desk. plifs shot and killed -- police shot and killed a robbery suspect in the mission district. the suspect according to police had a knife and was chasing the man through the streets. tara moriarty is live in san francisco where the alleged victim believe eswould have been killed -- believes he would have been killed if it weren't for police. >> reporter: police chief suhr says the victim thanked the captain. he credits those two undercover police officers with saving his life. all of this happened around 10:45 last night. two plain clothes officers saw a man with a long kitchen knife chasing a bicyclist down folsom from 25th to 24 street. the officers were on patrol and responded to a call for help. police say the suspect pulled

out the 6-inch long kitchen knife and was trying to steal the victim's bicycle when police stepped in. >> officers are only allowed to fire in defense of themselves or others, and they felt one of those situations was in play. they fired upon the suspect. >> reporter: the investigators found six shell casings at the scene. so far the identity of the suspect has not been released. the chief does say he's going to hold a town hall meeting in the neighborhood to discuss exactly what happened. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you, tara. 8:04. a san francisco police officer is accusedded of using excess -- accused of using excessive force during a confrontation with a homeless man aboard a muni bus. >> hey, buddy. you all right? >> the incident occurred on february 11th. it was captured by a surveillance camera. the bus driver said the homeless man was sleeping and refused to leave the bus.

raymond chu was trying to wake up the suspect, warren. the man told him to stop touching hill and threatened to beat up the officer. [bleep] >> made some comments to the officer who immediately takes the situation and turns it into something violent. >> officer chu used his police baton and pepper spray to make the arrest. warren face as misdemeanor charge of threatening an officer. police chief greg suhr says he's reviewed the incident and believes the use of force was justified. 8:05. an oakland man was arrested accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl and forcing her into human trafficking. 32-year-old patrick leo simmons is due in court dater today -- later today. he was arrested as part of an

undercover investigation that lead officers to a hotel. he met the teen on social media. agents arranged for a date with the girl through a website and recovered her from the motel room. they found simmons nearby with more than $6500 in cash and a motel key. >> he had sexually abused her. and that he was aware of her age and that he had also physically assaulted her. >> simmons is being held on $1 million bail. if convicted on all charges, he could get up to 15 years in state prison. oakland's minimal wage is taking a big step up on monday. that's when the city's minimum wage will jump from the current $9 an hour to $12.25 an hour. voters overwhelm ing will passed -- overwhelming passed the proposition last november. that's welcomed news for an estimated 48,000 low-income

workers in oakland. >> now it's not like -- i'm not worried about making rent, living paycheck to to pay -- too paycheck. >> for places like restaurants that employ those workers, this pay hike is a dilemma. some say they will have to raise their prices. but homestead on piedmont avenue says it will tell their customers they no longer have to leave a tip since the waiters are getting a raise. a number of other bay area cities are also raising the minimum wage. san francisco's goes to 12.25 an hour but not until may 1st. berkeley's goes up to 11 an hour on october 1st. california ally statewide minimum -- california's statewide minimum wage gets a boost next year to $10. congress need to act today or funding for the department of homeland security will run

welcome back. we're finding out more about deaths of eight people in tyrone, missouri. authorities say the bodies were found in at least five separate locations. these are photos from the investigation. police responded to the first scene last night.

a girl heard gunshots. she managed to escape. when the authorities got there, they found two bodies in her home. investigators later found fisk other people shot -- five other people shot and killed in three other homes. the gunman a 36-year-old man he was also found dead in a parked car. investigators haven't released any information about the relationship between the victims and suspect but they plan to hold a news conference later today. police believe a home invasion occurred and they say marc and thoughny carr broke into a house on butter court and fought with the whommer. police found the homeowner dead with plastic packing tape around his head. his girlfriend was unconscious. she's still in critical condition. car is in jail this morning.

a tax-free diaper plan, we're not hearing about any opposition to the plan in sacramento. indiana is considering a first-of-its-kind measure to install so-called baby boxes where mothers can surrender a newborn. it's aimed at providing a safe place to give up a child without fear of harming the baby. the incubators would have a silent alarm that would go off when someone places a baby inside. california has a safe surrender program that allows parents to safely hand over a newborn at posted locations such as hospitals or fire stations. 8:17. san francisco's new area code,

they said an adult from san mateo county visited la medeterania restaurant last friday night. anyone in the restaurant between 6:a and 10:00 p.m -- 6:45 and 10:00 p.m. may have been exposed. experts advise monitoring yourself for symptoms at least until march 13th. b.a.r.t. riders are at risk for possible exposure to measles. alex savidge joining us live at the civic center b.a.r.t. station. you know more about this possible exposure. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you. here we go again. another warning for b.a.r.t. riders about possible exposure to pieceles. we're talking -- measles. we're talking about an infected passenger who rode on a train from mill bay to san francisco. it -- millbrae to san francisco. it was one week ago today. and now according to health officials that person may have exposed as many as 1500 other fellow riders to that highly

contagious virus. that passenger exibilitied here at the -- exited here at the civic center. that person sick with measles lives in san mateo county according to health officials. that's all of the information they are offering. the person boarded a richmond- bound train last friday at the millbrae station around 4:30 in the afternoon and got off in san francisco about a half-hour later. even people who weren't in close contact with that particular rider could have been exposed. that's because the measles virus can remain alive and airborne for up to two hours on a surface. although health officials do say the risk of becoming sick as we've heard before is quite low if riders had been immunized before. >> i have had my shots. but i'm concerned for other people, other people's safety as well. i'm pretty sure i'm okay. i will be okay.

>> reporter: this is the second such warning about measles that's gone out to b.a.r.t. riders recently. earlier on, b.a.r.t. officials told the public about an infected passenger who boarded a train in the east bay and came into san francisco who may have exposed more than 25,000 fellow riders. of course, right now in california, we are facing a measles outbreak. so far this year, 126 cases have been reported statewide and you likely recall that many of those have been tied in the disney theme parks in southern california. and according to health officials, any b.a.r.t. riders who may have been on the same train as that person infected with measles one week ago should watch for symptoms of the measles if they have not been vaccinatessed-- va nate -- va nate -- vaccinated. investigators are investigating a suspicious death at a rural farmhouse. the body was found before noon

yesterday at a home on rose avenue east of highway 101 in pengrove. the death was reported by someone who went to the home and discovered the body. when investigators got there, they roped off the area with crime scene tape. neighbors say an older man and his sister lived there. home is surrounded by horse pastures and chicken coops which neighbors say the owners often rented out. >> i know they rented out the pastures for horses but as far as seeing who -- i'm not here enough to see what happened. i mean, as far as any wrongdoings going on. >> investigators spent the day at that scene. so far, they haven't released much information about this case. 8:36. police in suisun city are investigating a disturbing incident involving racist graffiti. on sunday morning, at least five cars were vandalized. all of them had racial or hateful messages spray parented on them in red paint. two of the car's owners are

the senate and the house are doing. >> they were going on two separate tracks. one proposal called for funding with no strings attached. another one was a stop-gap bill only fund for a few weeks. we just heard that the house has voted to approve a procedural rule on that short- term funding bill. now, the vote passed the bill 240-183. this is a bill that would provide funding for the d for three weeks. it still has to get passes in both houses before midnight tonight. the bim leaves the president's executive actions on immigration intact. some leaders say this will give this time to overturn executive actions that would protect becomes of immigrants from -- millions of immigrants from deportation. >> we've heard all kind of rumors that the house is gonna take our fully funded bill and send it back. >> we passed a bill to fund the homeland security six weeks ago. time for the senate to act.
