the water main break that flooded the streets in the city's neighborhood. noelle walker has been there all day joining us live. noelle any progress there with the road work or the water line repairs? >> reporter: it's a good thing it didn't happen as the road behind me opened up half an hour ago after being closed for eight hours. quite the clean up efforts. take a look at where they are now. the hole in the ground where the water main broke as they are working to sure it up to come back tomorrow and fix it. but today what a mess. >> we would. i still believe in their avenue. >> reporter: and around 8:30 in the morning the 12-inch water main broke, the water gushed on to the roads below. >> it's like a water fall or

something. >> to undermine the earth as you can see from over there. >> all of that would force all of that earth to be pushed this way. >> reporter: the water mixed with dirt and coated the lanes in southbound avenue in mud. the only traffic is the utility crews that were waiting knee deep. they would work non-stop to clear the storm drains, getting around here was a challenge. until the tracks were inspected and tested and all day they would detour the cars. >> they turned in to bottleneck. >> reporter: trafficker verted to side street. >> so it is pretty frustrating.

>> one, two, three, but not today. >> i think that we'll be ready to get out of this one today. >> reporter: and today they got about as dirty and as clean as it will ever be for the power washing to ready it for traffic again. so the pole is kind of dangling, stabilizing it as they will be here throughout the night holding up the repairs, why they will come back tomorrow. for tonight and all day, it is important to note the people will not be without water. reporting live noelle walker channel 2 news. in oakland they are investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old boy dead. it happened just before 8:00 last night.

they found the 14-year-old suffering from the gunshot wound who died later in the hospital as he was walking with friends when he was shot by the unknown gunman. so far they have not made any arrests. oakland police chief released a statement on their killings, saying in part that the members of my department and i are committed to the safety of everyone in our community, especially our children. we'll do all that is possible to identify and arrest the person responsible for this tragic crime. police continue to look for the man that shot at officers. the man fired at the officer, following the traffic stop around 2:00 this morning. when they pulled over, they got out of the car, firing at the officer who then shot back. as they were searching for that suspect. >> they were like you need to get out to grab those pampers,

whatever that you need to get out now and they would have rifles as we didn't have anything to leave. >> reporter: authorities spent several hours coming that neighborhood, but at last check they are still at large. we are told that neither the gunman nor the officer were hit by the gunfire. the gunman might be connected to another shooting. there is no word on who was targeted in that shooting. a deadly crash that claimed the life of one person leaving six others injured. two vehicles slammed in to each other around 7:00 last night. and the adult male passenger in one of the vehicles died at the scene. the other adult along with five children were taken to hospitals. none of them with life threatening injuries. both drivers remained at the scene and they are corporating with in-- cooperating with investigators. >> one suspect is dead and two others in connection to the murder of the 84-year-old woman from sonoma county. she was found on thursday

inside the farmhouse where she shared with her brother. they identified the suspect from the killing, able to track down two in the city of riverside county. they would chase them just across that state line in to arizona where they would say that one of the suspects got out of the vehicle with the gun. they opened fire killing that person. the second person identified as victor silva surrendered there, taken in to custody. a third suspect was arrested yesterday. >> there was some tense moments with the flock of birds headed. she spoke to the passenger with more on what happened, cristina? >> reporter: all is well. hawaiian airlines reporting that the plane took around noon

our time, scheduled to land any minute now in maui. the first take off was not so smooth because of the bird strike. hawaiian airline flight 23 from maui at 8:20 this morning didn't get too far across the pacific ocean. the passenger tells us that the plane was still gaining altitude when they heard from the pilot. >> the captain comes on very mellow and says that we have hit a flock of birds, turning around. safety first as they would start with rocking about just a little bit, which is nerve wrecking. but we landed just fine. >> reporter: this is what she and the other passengers saw when they would deplane in oakland. 30 to 40 birds were hit as the consultant says that they are common. and especially during their springtime when they are moving north to south, stretching from

arizona to patagonia where some of them would use the bay area as a pit stop. >> so as a result all the bay area airports, they are very prone to having that bird strike at this time of the year. and anything like that before you would go on. >> reporter: and while those passengers would wait, they say that they got a little taste of maui before reboarding as the spokeswoman says that the employees just wanted to share the spirit. a memorable start for those passengers headed for paradise. >> everybody has been smaze they are happy to be there. >> i just got an update. the flight landed safely about ten minutes ago. despite their airports, they say that here for oakland international that they would have crews that are dedicated

to squaring them off as it will be unpredictable. we are live in oakland, ktvu fox 2 news. and the family of the woman arrested in the death of her new-born son is supporting her as they would arrest samantha green yesterday as the body of just 20-day-old justice was found along the banks of the river on wednesday. and that is two days after green and her son were reported missing. that they did not elaborate on what kind of threat as green is due in court on wednesday to be arraigned for murder charges. they are set to go up significantly becoming the highest in the bay area raising the minimum wage from the current $9 an hour to $12.25 an hour. the increase as a result of the voter approval passed last

november. it's impacting 30,000 low- wageworkers. a new program that will let some senior citizens ride muni for free with an annual income less than $58,000 and people with disabilities. san francisco transportation officials approved the free passes in january. the free rides are expected to cost muni about $4.5 million a year. a similar program for students was approved about a year ago. well a new report shows that the sharp increase in the bar delays in the three years. the san francisco chronical analyzed the on-time record since 2012. three years ago they found bar trains ran -- bart trains ran on schedule 96% of the times. during the last three months of 2014 that number dropped to an 87% on time record. bart officials blame bad weather, demonstrations, and its aging equipment saying that the train control system many

of the cars and sections of the track have not been upgraded since bart started service back in 1972. well many fans in the east bay got a chance to carry away pieces of cinema history. the uc theater on university avenue there in berkeley opened back in 1917, but closed in 2001. for years they hosted midnight showings of rocky horror picture show with full audience participation. now it's owned by the berkeley music group. that's a non-profit group that plans to reopen the theater as a music venue. the ongoing renovation means that the old theater seats were up for grabs today. >> integrity, old stuff is better than new stuff i suppose. >> to accommodate up to 1,400 people. >> and the evacuations are at disney land as we'll have details on the fire near one of the park's most popular attractions. also, we'll show you the tradition at the san jose foot race that started by the world

officially sanctioned by the state party. they said that the vote should show how much the republican party in california has changed in recent years. some scary moments at disney land last night when the fire broke out as they started around 9:30 last night in a tree. and backstage near the it's a small world attraction. the ride was evacuated. nobody was hurt and the ride was not damaged. disney land spokeswoman says that the fire happened about the same time the fire works were launched b so far officials have -- launched, but so far officials have not made a cause. airlines canceled almost 2,400 flights nationwide today. particularly hard hit dallas/ft. worth airport with 464 flights canceled today. some passengers say they have been stuck there for as many as three days. here in the bay area they report 10 flights in and out of san francisco airport that were

canceled, including four outbound flights to dallas. in san jose at least three flights were canceled. they report at least one outgoing flight to baltimore canceled and two income flights that have been delayed from jfk and philadelphia. thousands of people laced up this morning in san jose for their 408k race to the row as you may recall last year at this time a 94-year-old world war ii veteran. there he is shaking his hands, and stood outside his home to greet their runners going by. as they explain how his simple act has started a new tradition. >> reporter: on mile three of this 8k race through the san jose neighborhood. a record player spins a 1940s sound track as military veterans greet runners who run by. the older generation of the veterans here the people doing the cheering and the high fives got some appreciation in return. and that is young and old and a

part of the new tradition. and the man during last year's race the 95-year-old were war ii veteran dawned on his uniform and stood outside their home to wave to everyone going by. when the runners saw them in their uniform they clapped and some thanked them. >> and it was just so spontaneous and genuine and heartfelt. a world war ii veteran. so you get a chance to see an american hero like that giving you an extra boost to finish the race with your chest held high. >> reporter: the exchange was captured on video going viral. and during the last chapter of his life he made friends and family around the world. >> that is just the way he would learn. he would say how are you doing. he would say military things. if you met other veterans. >> reporter: he passed away in

january. in his honor organizers created this memorial mile. >> we thought we could almost replicate what happened with the viral video. and maybe do it with dozens of veterans and active military from san jose. >> reporter: the veterans came out to support the cause. >> i feel very humbled. i certainly do. >> reporter: he was a world war ii paratrooper. >> i made my first plane ride and my first parachute jump the same day. >> reporter: he says as these runners go by sharing their smile and gratitude. >> i think of all of those that are no longer with us, including joe. because i had the best intentions to get over to see him and i didn't make it. >> reporter: throughout the morning runners stopped by joe bell's house to take their pictures and pay their respects. >> to see the people come by to get emotional about our father

is really, really a striking emotional event. >> reporter: but his family says that the beloved veteran left behind a legacy of spirit. ktvu channel 2 news. well a welcome sight in the sierra that i want to show you who you what it looks like at the sugar bowl. dropping as much as two feet of snow in some areas, bringing a smile to all those skiers and resort operators. another forecasted system is expecting to add a dusting of snow on top of the more substantial snowfall that has fallen there over the past two days. >> every little bit would help. we'll check back in to see what's happening with the weather out there today. >> reporter: we have a few cloud build ups eight now. but nothing like what we have seen yesterday. great news as you mentioned that the totals are adding up with the advisories to expire and a perfect day to be in the slopes with a chance as well.

the snow totals out in the sierra as you cannot see those numbers. above 7,000 feet. but nearly two feet of snow that it will be right and just 27 inches, very impressive there at diamond peak and 24 inches. there's a chance as you would hear to pick up a little bit of the dusting tomorrow, but nothing major as this weak system moves through california. and in fact right now that the old system is generating problems in southern california and heavier rainfall and thunderstorms to the south and not be a factor for the los angeles team for tonight and possibly in to monday morning that you can still see those showers approaching parts of the central coast with that one cell just to the south and the east of san jose and in this direction if you live in the south bay that you will see a nice cloud build up. a slight chance in the south bay for this evening with that one cell pushing through the region. current numbers, 62 degrees.

san jose at 61 and livermore at 61 degrees. this is timing out nicely here as we showed you that radar with that nice south to the east and with the associated clouds as you cannot see with the lingering instability to produce enough lift to produce this nice cloud formation and the south bay right now. the forecast deadline for tonight, we'll go with mostly clear skies for most of the bay area. for monday a sun and cloud mix and your extended forecast with a dry weather pattern with no major storms showing up for the first week of march. overnight lows first thing tomorrow morning mostly cloudy skies. a weak system that will generate some clouds with a chance that we could have a scattered shower or two. once again the main action right now is to the south and this area of low pressure up here, the track for tomorrow. more clouds with that chance for the shower. as i mentioned a little bit of more snow and that would be too extreme sliding to the south quickly. as a result the high pressure

returns on tuesday pushing them back up to the north with more thursday and it will be approaching 70 degrees as they cannot shake the red pattern. and here we are with the showers offshore. basically moving parallel to the coastline, but enough moisture to squeeze out a shower and even a slight chance of a thunderstorm as we head in to early monday afternoon. and by monday night we'll clear out setting up the stage for more sunshine in your tuesday forecast. temperatures for tomorrow after the cool start in the morning with lots of 60s. once again lots of clouds to start out your monday and then becoming partly cloudy. san jose at 62 and half moon bay at 69 with a look at your five-day forecast and it is a fairly quiet one. temperatures are trending up by wednesday and thursday and the warmest location near 70 degrees. coming up at 5:45 a look at the upcoming weekend. we'll let you know if we have

ahead of the israeli prime minister's speech. it is nothing more than a political maneuver aimed at swaying voters there. connor powell has more now from jerusalem. they were invited by john boehner, but they didn't coordinate the speech with the white house, angry that obama and many in washington. critics here in washington and many argue that the visit comes just two weeks before the election. and that he is using the iran issue as a way to scare their voters ahead of the vote. and for his part they say that he is speaking out against a deal with iran and that the protection of israel and the world. this is just the most recent

fad between president obama who have long had a frosty relationship. but there are serious policy issues dividing the two men. and the white house has been angered by the expansion of their settlements in the territories, while he issteveing over the talks. they believe that any deal with iran that does not completely dismantle their entire nuclear program is unacceptable. while the white house along with china, russia, france, the uk, and germany are willing to leave him with some nuclear capacity, as long as it is backed up preventing iran from developing a nuclear weapon. and both president obama and vice president biden have say that they would skip that speech while at least 34 democratic members of congress have also said that they want to attend. connor powell fox news. she does plan to attend their congressional speech, but would call them arrogant.

contracted ebola says she plan to sue the company that -- she plans to sue the company that she worked for negligence. nina pham told texas health resources that they failed to develop policies and train its staff for treating ebola patients. pham who has recooperated from ebola says she still suffers from body aches and insomnia. a spokesperson for texas health resources say that the company continues to support pham and remains optimistic that constructive dialogue could resolve the matter. t.j.maxx is the latest to voluntarily increase their wages of the workers. the owner of t.j. maxx, marshall's and home goods say they will increase their workers wage by at least $9.20 starting in june. wal-mart and io kia and gap have agreed to boost. the current wage stands at $7.25.

the war a world away. and we'll have more on the expo coming up on tonight's second look as you can catch it tonight at 11:00 right after the 10:00 news. the daughter of the fresno couple who were married for 67 years says her parents got what they wanted when they died just hours apart holding hands until the very end. they married in august of 1947, raised three children together. they tended their 20-acre ranch, even as she suffered from dementia and floyd became ill. earlier this month both showed signs that the end was near, so their families pushed their beds together on february 11. the couple held hands as the 90- year-old floyd took his last breath and five hours later the 89-year-old violet died. their children said that it was

boston is bracing for another round of snow. and with 102 inches where boston only needs 5.7 inches more to break that record.

and it looks like that's going to happen. four to six inches of snow is expected there by early tomorrow. >> because then you have another problem to deal with. >> and then nothing like that to talk about, although we have some snow in the sierra. >> yes, do you ever walk around and say that boy that is just beautiful? >> i noticed it the last couple of days. >> a lot of people have. i think that this particular cloud is very nice looking. looking towards the south bay and the south from the east as you can see it here about an hour ago that we would have a very nice build up in this region. now yesterday we had that storm developing here, producing all the hail like the winter wonderland in parts of the south bay. the case right now with just some lingering clouds and a little bit of the instability as they have shifted to the south and to the east of the bay area and the main event in terms of the heavier rainfall in southern california on outside towards los angeles right now picking up the

heavier downpour right around santa clarita as well. that's the old storm as you can see the wrap around moisture approaching parts of monterey bay in part of that fresno area. for us we have that mostly clear skies across most of the bay area and current temperatures, they are comfortable out that there is nothing too chilly that you can see them in the upper 50s. oakland at 51. fremont checking in at 61 degrees and some more neighborhoods. san francisco downtown 56. hayward in the lower 60s and san jose at 61 degrees at last check as we are pointing at the cloudy skies. for tonight mostly clear skies with the sun cloud mix for tomorrow that we'll have more clouds for the first half of your monday and then a warming trend over the next few days. the warmest location that will be approaching the 70-degree mark once again. the cool spots will with chilly. in fact we have frost advisories up towards the county and up towards willis. but overnight lows the 30s for santa rosa and a lot of 40s

around the bay as well. and then in the south bay for san jose starting out in the lower 40s on track to reach 62 degrees during the afternoon hours. and so here is the weather system up to the north, the new one that will basically be moving in this direction for tomorrow. and so with that a lot of clouds for the first half of your monday with enough moisture out there and a chance for a shower, even a chance for the thunderstorm and it could produce snowfall. a dusting in the sierra, that it is just about it for the higher terrain. once that system moves out, we'll have a dry weather pattern as well. and as that storm track will move up to the north and that tomorrow morning i'll mention the clouds and this forecast model to keep it offshore. but it is close enough that we have to bring in a chance for showers here in the bay area and during the afternoon hours that we could have a few pop up across the region and that sun and cloud mix by monday and then monday night we should have clearing skies and that'll set the stage for a warmer tuesday after the cool start once again for the first thing tuesday morning. temperatures for tomorrow, mainly in the lower 6s, the
