oakland's police chief vows to find the shooter who gunned a 14-year-old boy' walked with friends near his home. i'm tori campbell. counselors are meeting with students at two oakland schools today to help them make sense of the shooting. christien kafton has more. >> reporter: freshmen devon ellis attended oakland tech. the 14-year-old was shot and killed on saturday night. school officials this morning are calling that shooting a senseless and despicable act. family, friends and school officials say ellis was a good

student and a talented football player e was walking with friends saturday night on brookdale avenue near humboldt when shot and killed. no motive, no suspects at this point and it could be a case of mistaken identity. they've held a series of counseling sessions at the school to hem students grieve as students and teachers learn about how he died. >> there's no sure way, no universal method of dealing with a tragedy of this magnitude. tree try to do the best -- we try to do the best we can and offer support and let the kids know that we're there for them. >> reporter: it there was a -- there was a growing memorial at the scene. they are mourning the loss of a young man they say had everything to live for. back to you. >> thank you. fire crews in san jose attacked a three-alarm fire this morning that destroyed a garage. the fire was reported at a home on north 9th street near james

street after 10:30, crews say the garage was engulfed in flames when they first arrived and quick smoke could be seen from dwight a distance away -- quite a distance away. a head-on crash in santa cruz county killed four people and left four others with major injuries. the accident was reported around 8:00 last night. chp says a car on freedom boulevard in aptos crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a truck. there were seven people in the car, the chp says none of them were wearing seat belts. the driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. passenger in the truck died at the hospital. the chp says it does appear alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. a double homicide in livermore may have step stemmed from a gun deal. fox 2's katie utehs explains what led up to the deadly shooting. >> reporter: two men dead,

another in custody following what some are saying was a gun deal gone bad. >> they fumbled over the gun, my friend got it and shot him first. >> reporter: this man said his friend was one of the two killed near altamont creek and winding street drive yesterday afternoon. neighbors heard three shots around 4:30 as police responded to 911 calls for a verbal argument. >> just heard the loud pop and we were getting in our car getting ready to leave to go to the grocery store and i looked to the side. i didn't know at the time what it was. i just saw someone laying in the grass. >> reporter: police are not identifying the villes. one man died on scene. another at the hospital. chris fisher showed up to the scene early this morning saying one of the men killed was a father. >> it's a tragedy. violence needs to stop, whether

man suspected of indecent exposure. they are not sure whether this case is linked to others in palo alto in october. the latest one happened sunday, february 22nd about 4:00 a.m. an 11 idea girl said she was walking her door on el dorado avenue when she went past a man sitting in his car naked from the waste man. he's described as being in his 30s, 40s, meeld yum build with a goatee -- medium build with a goatee. san francisco police plan to hold a town hall meeting tonight about a shooting in the mission district. investigators say it happened when two plain clothes officers responded to reports of a man with a knife on 24th and folsom on thursday night. they say the man was trying to steal another man's bike. the officers reportedly told the suspect to drop his knife but he refused. that's when officers shot and killed him. the meeting is set to start at 6:00 tonight at cease r chavez

don't have a good sense of how frequently there may be interactions with police and community members that result in a death. >> the task force was appointed following the deaths of unarmed black men in ferguson, missouri and new york city. it recommended an independent recommendation when police used deadly force among other practices. the president said now is the time for police to build trust in police of communities of color. the justice department is expected to release a highly critical report this week accusing police in ferguson, missouri of racial discrimination. the investigation was launched after a white police officer shot and killed unarmed black teenager, michael brown. according to the new york times, the report accuses ferguson police of disproportionately issuing traffic citations to african- americans and relying on those fines to fill holes in the city's budget. the city will have to negotiate

a settlement or face geeting sued. they are expected to clear officer darren wilson shooting death of michael brown. an nfl player for the packers has been arrested in vacaville. according to several reports, corner basketball, jared bush was arrested yesterday for public intoxication. no other details are being released at this time. bush who is from vacaville was essentially released from jail. he's been with the packers since 2006. google wants to show you what it is like to soar through the trees in the amazon jungle. the street view option, mostly provides panoramic views but google has found creative ways to show exotic places. it's seemed up with an environmental protection group to explore a remote part of an amazon rain forest in brazil with a device called a tracker that carries the camera on a zipline through the trees.

yahoo! is celebrating it's 20th anniversary today. ia moo was founded in 29 -- yahoo was founded in 199 a. it was created to be a guide for the web. to celebrate, king goldman rang the opening bell, which was changed into th yahoo! yodel. the nasdaq has touched 5,000 for the first time in nearly 15 years since the dotcom boom. uber is the latest company to report a data breach. the company says hackers launched a cyberattack on its database with 50,000 current and former drivers. almost half of those drivers are in california. uber says it discovered the problem in september but the actual break-in happened last may. the company says it has no report of data being misused. uber says it's contacting the

tapered 0 of recently after last month's peace deal but they say that contract is still being violated. in london, amy kellogg, fox news. hyundai is recalling more than 200,000 cars for power steering system problems. the recall affects 263,000 elantra sedans and the touring versions. they say an electronic sensor can malfunction and disabled steering system. hyundai says no accidents or injuries related to the problem have been reported. the carmaker is notifying owners of affected cars and deal will fix the problem for free. gas prices may be going up. the current average is 3.39 in california. last week, drivers were paying 2.95 a gallon and a month ago, most drivers were paying about

a dollar less than they are now. the supply has been drying up since the fire at the exxonmobil refinery in torrance and the strike at the tesoro refinery in martinez. state laumakers will hold -- lawmakers will hold meetings this week. drivers in san francisco are paying on average 3.34 to fill up in san jose, it's costing about 3.36. in oakland, drivers are paying about 3.34. a new report shows many streets in san jose are deteriorating quickly because the city just can't keep up with maintenance. the city auditor found that 60% of the roads in san jose are so worn out that expensive auto repairs are needed. industry experts say streets need to be repaired every ten years but the audit found san jose has never met the goal due to insufficient funds. some roads have not been maintained since the 1980s. the report says san jose roads rank as fair right now.

a dramatic midair rescue was caught on camera. it happened in australia during a skydiving course. christopher jones, less than 30 seconds into the jump, he had a seizure. his instruct ear was able to -- instructor was able to release his parachute. he did land safely. well, the u.s. stock market is higher this afternoon as deals and economic news gives stocks a lift. the government report that consumer spending dipped in january is actually helping the rally. it showed income edged up. the dow is currently up 124 and the nasdaq, it was just over 5,000. it's dropped down to 4,999.85. up 36 right now. and the s&p is also up 10.
