search if they get specific tips. the suspect antolin garcia- torres is heading to trial for her murder even though her body has never been found. police arrested two women suspected of car thefts. police believe they are connected with the theft of two dozen cars. investigators say the women were seen two days in a row at a jack in the box parking lot moving property from one car to another. one of the cars had been reported stolen. police say they tracked them to their home where they found evidence connecting them to 25 stolen vehicles. new developments now in a horrible crash in santa cruz county. authorities say the four young people who were killed were not wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was a factor in the crash. the chp says the person behind

it wheel was seen driving erratically. this happened at 8:00 p.m. last night. investigators say the car was on freedom boulevard when it crashed into traffic and collided head on with a truck. ktvu's azenith smith now with more. >> right here of the truck. >> reporter: a witness said it is hard to grasp what she witnessed saturday night. a crash so severe it claimed the lives of four young people. the driver was 22 years old. the passengers 18 years old, 19 years old and a 16-year-old girl. >> impact was -- huge. i can't describe it. it was a very hard hit for both vehicles. >> reporter: chp says around weight p.m. last night a black car -- 8:00

p.m. last night a black car crossed into traffic and crashed head on into a truck. three people in the front of the car were killed. a 4th person died at the hospital. the others suffered major injuries. >> there was evidence alcohol was being consumed. broken bottles. opened bottles. glass. >> reporter: chp says none of the people in the car were wearing seatbelts. two passengers were on people's laps. loved ones placed flowers and a cross remembering those who died. >> i saw him a while back and he told me if i wanted to spend the night because we used to have sleep overs. >> he told me friday, see you. see you next week. >> she can't imagine what the

>> the gunman was driving a white truck with braids and a blue beanie. police are reviewing surveillance video from the area. dozens of people rallied in san francisco tonight to protest a construction project. ktvu's david stevenson is live, why protesters rather see their money spent in other ways. >> reporter: plans are in the work to build a new jail. the one atop the hall of justice is considered out dated but opponents say the money could be better spent elsewhere. protesters said with a surplus of beds inmates could be shifted to other jails and the money could be spent on other programs. the building is 57 years old.

unsafe. the jail has inadequate medical facilities and no real classroom or rehabilitation facilities. advocates said they hope to secure a grant to build a new jail but opponents are rallying to urge the board of supervisors to not apply for the grant and hope to make that point tonight. >> for those fighting against poverty, education, healthcare and housing, we see that money would be better invested in those things. >> opponents say inmates should be freed with an inicist on finding them -- e.icist on finding gem -- e. cyst on finding them jobs and homes. 65% of the inmates are no bail

status. 90% of the people in jail considered felons as well. the meeting just started. the people headed over there to make sure their point is heard tonight. >> more on that on the 10:00 p.m. news. david stevenson, thank you. there is word tonight that leaks on the eastern span of the bay bridge came about because caltrans decided to skip installing part of a drainage system. the fix will be paid for by tolls rather than by the contractor. the price tag so far, a million and a half dollars. the contractors asked caltrans if they could simplify the drainage. caltrains agreed but didn't make sure other parts were properly sealed. the leaks are causing concerns about corrosion that could weaken the bridge. several lawmakers are pushing a bill that would give

money back to taxpayers. specifically taxes that were collected and later considered illegal. right now residents have to go through an appeal's process to get their money back. this would return the money automatically. >> it is just crazy thinking. an easy fix. we ought to say when the state collects a tax that is illegal or unconstitutional the court decides that -- and the court decides that the people out to get their money back. . >> one tax that is being challenged is fire prevention fees. 800,000 homeowners have to pay that fee which starts at $152. muni at the center of two controversial campaigns. >> we apologize for people who are offended. >> the ads now posted and why some say they go too far.

mainly down here, los angeles area. santa barbara. closer to here you can see we have a few showers linkerring in the area. wind -- lingering in the area. winding down. that is not slowing down your commute. shouldn't be. livermore with light showers. some of that -- probably wipers. san francisco, forecast for tomorrow, 62 degrees for a high. going to warm up tomorrow. more sunshine. might be patchy valley fog. santa clara valley, san jose, 67 degrees for a high. that is a significant warm up. by the ends of the week, middle end of the week -- end of the week, middle wend of the week. temperatures -- end of the weekend, temperatures back into the low 70s. with this pattern in place it is not going to rain. for this 5 day period. we are going to see the flowers, the blooms going off out there. we noticed it.
