but we're a little lippy out there. yesterday's cloud cover has moved south of there. temps in wind protected areas. it will be a nice day just a cold start. you will see what is going on down of san diego. really not for us expect for the colder lows. 30s and 40s to 50 up in the sierra and truckee. it does look mostly sunny there today. maybe a few cues building up in the afternoon. all the active weather looks like it's move into central nevada. a cold morning sunny and nice. a little northerly breeze almost cake in. 60s on your temps. warm upstarts tomorrow and takes us into the end of the week. more of that coming up in 12 minutes. here is brian. anything new to report? yeah it's starting to get very busy out there. especially at the bay bridge toll plaza. let's take a look at that this

morning. metering lights came on ten minutes earlier than it did yesterday. that came on around 5:36 this morning. the traffic backed up to the foot of the maze. the commute into here remains decent. about 25 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the mccarthur maze. but if you go in the cash lanes you will be moving in. 580 westbound is a mess. there was a motorcycle accident and a car. it's effecting the center divide but also effecting traffic from 205 in tracy. but if i move the map up here, i'm going to zoom in here to the byron highway. there is a very serious accident again on byron highway in hot springs road. this is a head on collision. there have been in that area and have the two lane highways this is exactly what happened. the pickup truck went in the opposite lane to pass and slammed into a light colored sedan. from what i understand there is an air ambulance on the way.

if we take the byron highway, traffic will be effected there. and take a look at the san mateo bridge. there is a periodic construction going on on the span this morning. should be going on until about 11:00. we will keep an eye on that as well. let's go back to the desk. cal train service is back to normal this morning after a man was hit and killed on the tracks last night. cal train says he was hit by a southbound train. it was about 5:15 last night just south of the blossom hill station in san jose. the trains were delayed for about an hour and a half. it is the seventh fatality on cal train tracks this year. according to cal train, about 14 people die on its tracks every year. one of this years other deadly incidents was just last week. a woman on the peninsula was hit and killed. her car was stuck on the tracks. janine de la vega is joining us live now from menlo park where a meeting was held to talk about what can be done to make

things safer in the area. >> reporter: during the commute time the ravenswood crossing here can get very congested. and let me show you how a potential accident can happen. right over there you are looking at a pedestrian crossing and cars when a pedestrian is crossing by cars stop here and then they get backed upright over these tracks and so cars could potentially get stuck here on the racks and last week a train struck a woman who got trapped on the tracks because traffic was stopped ahead of her. it struck a nerve in the community and people met with city leaders last night at a cafe to discuss immediate changes. one of the city council members suggested using electronic signs that would use cal train realtime data to know exactly how much time they have before a train comes to the intersection. now one woman who attended the meeting says she felt compelled to come after witnessing the aftermath of the crash.

>> i really want to find something now and i don't think it is impossible to find something that we can do. >> menlo park is considering long term improvements to separate the tracks from traffic at ravenswood so that cars and pedestrians no longer have to travel directly over the tracks. but the project is still in the design phase which we're told is two years out. the city council is wokinging with cal train to make this project a priority. a meet willing be held later this month so the city can get some public input on this. dave. >> thank you. now to our developing news in antioch. three people are now being questioned in connection to a deadly shooting last night. ktvu fox 2 alex savidge is joining us now with how those people were taken into custody so quickly. alex. >> reporter: pam, good morning

to you. antioch police say it really caught a break here. one of their officers happened to be close by when the shooting happened over night. it happened just after 11:00. that is when the man was found shot to death here on hudson court. an officer on patrol heard a gunshot in this area and then saw a car speeding away with no lights on. that officer tried to make a traffic stop but the driver wouldn't pull over leading to a pursuit. the chase ended a mile away from here on mahogany way. that is when the blue toyota camry lost control and crashed right into a home. elderly woman was inside sleeping at the time. she was not hurt. police moved if and quickly took three people from that car into custody. all three of those people are now being detained for questioning in connection with that deadly shooting. police also recovered a shotgun not far away that may have been thrown from the getaway car during the pursuit. this morning the motive for the killing remains unclear.

police have not yet identified the victim in this case and antioch police continuing to investigate although they have cleared this crime scene. they are continuing to investigate and questioning those three people in connection with this city's first homicide of the year. >> certainly developing story. we'll check in with you throughout the morning. thank you. our time is 6:05. the father of missing teenager sierra lamar says the weekly searches for her daughter will be ending. sierra vanished on her way to school on march 16th, 2012. dedicated volunteers have gathered every saturday to search for her. sierra's father tells us they have run out of good search areas and says saturday march 14th will be the last formal search. the suspect in sierra's disappearance is still in jail. he's awaiting trial for sierra's murder everyone though her body has not been found. the california supreme court struck down part of jessica's law that puts limits on where convicted sex

offenders can live. the court revoked a requirement that prevented sex offenders from living within 200 feet of schools and parks. they challenged that requirement saying it would make it impossible to find a a place to live. >> you are homeless and you can't find a place to live. you can't find a job. you will probably resort to some sort of method of keeping yourself alive be it stealing food or something. attorney general cam lap harris hasn't said if she will appeal the court ruling which will apply to san diego county but legal experts say it is expected to effect large california cities. after months of delays construction on the new patent office in silicon valley is due to begin this friday. that office at san jose city

hall was originally seen as a time saver for local inventors. the city lobbied real hard to get that patent office. and when it was proposed a year and a half ago, it was expected to cost $6 million. and then the estimate jumped to $10 million. but now even that may be too low if more heavy construction is needed. a record number of student applications was sub mitted to the university of california this year. uc president janet napolitano and governor jerry brown are battling over how much money the university will get from the state from the school year. napolitano plans to raise tuition 5% this fall. until the funding issue is

resolved, uc admission officers say they have no idea how many new students they can enroll. tonight one of san francisco's oldest most treasured landmarks will hail back to the way it looked a century ago. the numbers 1915 now hang from the tower of the ferry building. there it is. it will all be trimmed in lights to help celebrate at 100th anniversary of the pan pacific expedition. there is a special ceremony to light up the building so is it looked the way it did when fair goers visited back in 1915. the ferry building was a hub. it helped welcome more than 1 million people to the fair that year. take you back in time. a heated town hall meeting over a deadly police shooting in san francisco. coming up at 6:30 why people who know the man killed say

welcome back to mornings on 2. your time is 6:12. now we are learning what a gunman in oakland said to a 14- year-old boy before shooting and killing him. 14-year-old davon ellis was shot saturday as he was walking on brookdale avenue. the oakland tech freshman was spending the night at the home of his football coach. coach wayne jackson says his son and davon were on the way to the store with a friend when someone in a car asked them to a question. >> he just pulled up and said do you know tim? all the boys looked at each other and said we don't know a tim. and then he started shooting. i mean it was that quick. >> the other boys told jackson the gunman had braids or corn rows and wearing a blue beanny. he was driving a white infinity

truck. we talked to davon's grandfather last night he said he's been crying since it happened and said quote i'm all cried out. i don't have anymore tears. there is a $20,000 reward offered for information leading to the arrest of davon ellis' killer. the parents of three bay area victims in last years deadly rampage in santa barbara county have filed a lawsuit alleging negligence. the lawsuit blames the county, the sheriffs department, and apartment building where the killer lives. it claims they all missed red flags that elliot roger was dangerous. last may roger stabbed, shot and ran down people from the car. a campbell pet clinic will have a lot of cleaning up to do this morning after a car smashed right through its front door. police in campbell say it happened around 7:45 last night at the united veterinary hospital on dell avenue. a spokeswoman at the veterinary

hospital says she was in the hallway. two people were at the desk in the entry area when that car smashed right through. no one was hurt including the driver and the passenger of the car. police say speed was probably the cause of the crash. the city of sonoma is taking a stand against adding fluoride to the county's drinking water. the city council narrowly approved the idea. now supporters of fluoridation say it's an effective way to prevent tooth decay and reduce dental care costs. opponents say the science and instead money should be -- rather than forcing medication on them. one of california's biggest wine producers is accused of using toxic materials in its wine bottles. the state attorney general says gallo glass put recycle by- products from manufacturing back into its wine bottles. the lawsuit says inspections in 2009 and 2011 showed toxic led

arsenic and other materials ended up in the bottle. gallo said it was properly recycling that dust by using it in the glass. the lawsuit say there is is no evidence of a health threat to people who drink the wine. >> they say it doesn't oppose a threat but how do you know? you start drinking it and arsenic in small levels it builds up and then you have health problems later. >> in a statement gallo says it's been trying to resolve the issue for several years. they are recognized around the world. it is 6:16. brian is covering traffic. brian, video i just showed dave is making me very hungry. it is national pancake day. i forgot. ihop you can get a short stack from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and all they ask is a donation

to the children's miracle network. >> perfect. all right well i'm out of here. see you guys later. we have a lot of traffic to talk about actually this morning. it's starting to get very busy out there. a couple serious accidents to talk about. this is the map i pulled up here. here at the traffic center. a lot of traffic especially on 580 there were a couple of accidents 37. one involving a motorcycle. that scene has been cleared. as i scroll up here, there is another accident northbound 680 at lavorn. this is an injury accident. but this is the most serious accident right now. this is just south of brentwood as i zoom in here. this is byron highway. this is a head on collision involving a pickup truck and a smaller sedan. apparently the pickup truck

according to the chp tried to swerve afrom the slower lane and went into the opposite lane and hit head on. an air ambulance is on the way. both lanes are closed in that direction again. byron highway just south of brentwood this morning. moving on to our 555 cam this is 101 near hospital curve no major problems out there. the commute from that area has been great. family bay bridge toll plaza obviously starting to pick up. this is the normal time when it does so. metering lights came on about an hour ago. it was a little bit earlier than what it was yesterday. still about 25 minutes to get you across the span from the carquinez bridge to the mccarthur maze. 6:18 here's the man, the myth, the legend. >> thank you brian. i appreciate it. we have clear skies. it's cold for some. 30s but even 40s for many. in areas that were warmer

cigarette butts are toxic. they release chemicals that poison our water... and harm wildlife. and millions... are polluting our environment. [ sniffing ] [ seagulls squawking ] four young people were killed. it happened sunday night where a mercedes heading westbound crossed the center line and hit a ford pickup. the driver and three of the passengers were killed. they were all from watsonville. three others in that car as well as the driver of the truck all suffered major injuries.

>> impact was huge. i can't even describe it. it was a very hard hit for both vehicles. >> the chp says no one in the mercedes was wearing a seat belt. two of the passengers were sitting on other people's laps and witnesses also report seeing a mercedes driving erratically just before the crash. there is new hope for thousands of californians waiting for organ donations. that is because more people are signing up to be organ donors. the numbers release exclusively to ktvu show that some may be because of a new law allowing undocumented residence to get driver's licenses. since january 110,000 people registered for those licenses and 50,000 almost half have signed up to be donors. >> we would be delighted if it continues. that means we have more people that are potential organ and

so cold morning. sunny and nice for us. temperatures will be helped along by a little northerly breeze for a few. only 60s here. 70s may show up tomorrow but more likely on thursday. more on that coming up. here is brian. it has turned into a very busy morning. good morning, everybody. as steve mentioned it's starting to get very busy on the roadways. let's take a look at the maps. this commute not too bad. i've seen it worse. there is a minor accident on 87 this morning. it doesn't appear to be effecting traffic. you have the typical traffic though northbound 101 as you approach 880. this is a mess though 580 in the livermore valley. we have a couple of accidents earlier. obviously cars starting to spill on 84 and 680 that is not making anything any better. so traffic continues to be a mess through the livermore valley. as i scroll the map, there are a couple of accidents. one here on northbound 680.

that is an injury accident. that is off to the side. it doesn't appear to be effecting traffic. the one to the right here just south of brentwood this is the injury accident we talked about. the head on collision involving a pickup truck and smaller sedan. chp says they are trying to remove the people inside that smaller sedan so that remains a very active scene out there. again that is the byron highway south of brentwood and highway 4. finally moving on to the san mateo bridge this morning traffic is starting to pick up now as you approach the high- rise into foster city. 880 and the nimitz freeway on the arizona poach to the san mateo bridge. and finally taking a look at highway 24 in lafayette as you approach the caldecott tunnel. this is typical traffic. let's go back to the desk. we are still following developing news in the east bay. ktvu fox 2 alex savidge is in antioch right now and says three people are being questioned in a deadly shooting because of quick action by a patrol officer. so what happened?

>> reporter: well, dave, good morning to you. it was the right place, right time for one antioch police officer who just happened to be nearby when this shooting happened late last night. it happened just after 11:00 a man found shot to death here on hudson court. an officer on patrol heard a gunshot in this area. and then saw a car speeding away with no lights on. that officer tried to make a traffic stop but the driver would not pull over and that led to a pursuit. the choice ended about a mile away from here on mahogany way where that blue toyota camry lost control and crashed into someone's home. there was an elderly woman inside sleeping at the time. she was not hurt thankfully. police moved in and quickly took three people from the car into custody. they are all being detained for questioning in connection with that deadly shooting. now police also recovered a shotgun not far away. it was on summersville road. it may have been thrown from the getaway car during this

pursuit. investigators at this point have not offered up any motive for this killing last night. the victim in this case has not been identified, dave but investigators working hard right now questioning those three people who were captured at the end of that pursuit last night about this homicide here. this was by the way the first homicide of the year here in the city of antioch. >> all right alex savidge thanks for the update. time is 6:33. friends, coworkers, and neighbors of the man that was killed last week by san francisco police in the mission district say the police have it all wrong when it comes to what happened. >> this is unfair. what is up with you guys? you are supposed to protect the people. what are you doing? you are doing the opposite. >> police chief greg suhr hosted a town hall meeting talking about that officer involved shooting. the crowd was angry as they defended amilcar lopez. police say he had a knife while he was trying to steal another

man's bicycle. when police arrived at the scene they say perez lopez charged at them. >> the officers were approximately 5-6 feet away when the suspect charged at one of the officers with the knife raised over head. both officers discharged their firearms. >> supporters say the bicyclist had actually stolen perez lopez's cell phone and he was chasing after him to get it back. police chief sur says it's still early in this investigation. if anybody has information, call the police. friends of perez lopez say their priority now they want to get his body back to his family in guatemala. independent investigation is under way into the deadly police shooting of a homeless man in los angeles. now protestors gathered last -- last night near the spot where the man is normally is africa was shot and killed on sunday. police say there is evidence that the man tried to reach for an officer's gun when he went to question him about a reported robbery. along with the video shot by a

passer by the lapd says two of the officers on the scene had body cameras. our time is 6:35. a steve street plan for what is considered to be one of san francisco's most dangerous streets is expected to be decided today. cycling advocates and business owners are in odds over this plan. ktvu fox 2 katie utehs is in san francisco now. you're there along polk street so explain what is happening. >> reporter: the morning commute is really starting to pick up and there is lots of cars along polk street as well as cyclists. we've tried to talk to a few but they are busy working up the hill. but here's the issue. you can see the bike lane. people with traffic. there is also parking issues along polk. you can see this park clip which is great for people wanting to sit and eat at a restaurant. it's difficult to find parking long this core door. they are trying to balance

everyone's needs and create a safer polk street. people on both sides of the issue cyclists groups and business owners are expected to pack an mta board of directors meeting. repave polk street that prompted the redesign of the street. it's been in the works for two years now and the plan currently on the table includes the addition of bike lanes along most of polk. when we covered this issue earlier this yearmen jose explained why the tickets are needed. >> in a fiv -- >> reporter: the plan also adds crosswalks and other safety measures but eliminates around 170 parking spaces. some for a few hours each day. othersothers permanently. of course a lot of needs needing to be met here and people are planning to pack the board of directors meeting this afternoon. we'll talk to business owners and cyclists as well as people

walking around polk and get their take on the issue. it's certainly challenge for the mta. >> and it's an explosive issue out there. we'll talk to you later thank you. time is 6:37. two east bay women suspected of stealing more than 20 cars they are in custody this morning. police arrested 25-year-old jessica adkins of hayward and 33-year-old erin ellis of alameda. they had seen the women acting suspiciously twice but they were able to walk away. they also found several stolen cars at that address. and neighbors they were surprised to see so many police officer ons their block. >> i am comfortable of course. i think that -- i'm glad they are caught. >> investigators are not saying yet if the two women acted on their own or part of a bigger

car theft ring. the stolen cars were mostly honda's and toyotas which don't have antitheft features on the most recent models. they also found a list of 25 other cars which may have also been stolen. just about 90 minutes from now israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu makes his appearance before congress. it is controversial because house speaker john boehner invited him to speak without speaking with the white house. he says he is not in washington to disrespect president obama. instead he says he is there to express his concerns about international negotiations that the u.s. is leading regarding iran's nuclear program. >> israel and the united states agree that iran should not have nuclear weapons. but we disagree and on the best -- but we disagree on the best

traffic times from the carquinez bridge to the mccarthur maze. this has picked up in the past 15 minutes. traffic starts building up. we'll take a look at that in just a moment. this is south bay traffic this morning. not too bad. there was an accident on 87 this morning but it doesn't appear to be effecting traffic too badly. this is typical traffic again. northbound 101 south of tully until you reach 880. and as we move on now livermore valley traffic has been a mess. there were a couple accidents earlier but you have that reside yule traffic as well. as i scroll up here, there is a couple other accidents as of note. one near south of walnut creek. and then the major accident as i scroll the map through here this is off byron highway. moving on to the 280, 880

split. drivers are moving nicely but you see that commute traffic on 280 toward highway 17 that is obviously slow and go and it will probably be like that for most of the morning. the bay bridge toll plaza backed up from the foot of the maze. metering lights came on ten minutes earlier. around 5:36 this morning. so that is definitely backing up traffic along the span. about 25 minutes to get you across at this time. here is steve paulson. we have clear skies. it is colder this morning. we lose the cloud cover at least most of it and get a sunrise and temperatures 30s and 40s. it will be a nice day and looks like a nice pattern. there will be a few high clouds cruising in later and there they are. most of these will stay offshore but most will clip us. most of the energy stayed pretty much offshore. 56 at noon. same song and dance for san
