see a tow truck. it may take longer. >> amber lee reporting live, thank you very much. stay with ktvu fox 2 news and www.ktvu.com for the latest on this breaking news. we are posting updates to twitter and facebook. now to san francisco where tonight police are investigating another smash and grab burglary and this time they hit the same store they hit last month. the latest in a string of similar crimes across the bay area. ktvu's john sasaki is live now at the scene. >> reporter: this was a brazen crime. although on a deserted street. three people busted through the window and stole what they could as quickly as possible. >> reporter: it is now a common sight. crews cleaning up glass after a store break in. >> they were just hopping into the window and loading up their truck. >> reporter: in this case the music loverrers store was

burglar -- lovers store was burglarized for the second time in a week. >> knew what they were doing. >> reporter: the store lost $20,000 worth of equipment in each crime. this was just the latest in a string of crimes. the owner has been in touch with others and told me there were smash and grabs at stereo stores in other cities. >> just opportunity opportunist. -- opportunists. you smash a window and you are able to jump in and run out at 4:00 a.m. >> reporter: there was a case of gold nuggets stolen in the financial district after thieves slammed an suv through the front door. >> we will look that connection. if there is a connection, if there is no connection we will go in any direction. >> reporter: back here live. there are now security bars. that was the plan for all the

windows. in the previous crimes there were two burglars, this time there were three. on the surveillance video one of the burglars was a woman. frank? >> feel for the owner of the store. john sasaki in san francisco, thank you. four men are under arrest in connection ebwith a string of burglaries in -- with a string of burglaries in the south bay. they are now in custody accused of burglarizing 7 homes in san jose and one in sunnyvale. they date back to september. investigators say they managed to arrest the suspects after alert neighbors saw a break in in progress and called police. the court of appeals upheld a ordinance restricting high capacity gun magazines. it bans magazines that could hold more than 10 rounds. the national rifle association said it infringed on the rights

of gun owners. california attorney general kamala harris supporting the affordable care act as the supreme court takes up the case. she writes this land mark law brought reform and accountability to our healthcare system. and a ruling against it would be devastating to california and the nation. the issue before the u.s. supreme court centers on subsidies. language in the affordable care act says subsidies will go to those who buy health plans through an exchange established by the state. the question is, does this apply to the 30 states that haven't set up their own exchanges and using the federal government exchange. the ruling could effect millions of americans. a decision is expected by the end of june and it will be a close vote. 12 patients, 6 kidneys and two days of surgeries. doctors are about to perform

transplants at a bay area hospital. ktvu's rob roth spoke with the one donor who made it all happen. >> reporter: at the california pacific medical center doctors are about to perform procedures never performed before. six kidney transplants. this is a very large inverve. >> reporter: this started with -- endeavor. >> reporter: this started when a bay area woman offered to donate one of her kidneys to anyone who needs it. >> i thought i would help just one person who i don't but the fact that so many people can have life extension. that is big. >> reporter: that allowed doctors to find matches matches for six patients in need. it allowed other donors to match-up with recipients. >> the six people will come off of the waiting list and that means other people move forward

on the waiting list. >> reporter: in 2011 ktvu fox 2 news was there when doctors performed a series of five kidney transplants. the donors donors and recipients now hold annual reunions. doctors plan to perform three tomorrow and the other three on friday. >> one of the obstacles we had to overcome is having enough surgical instruments. >> reporter: they were matched through a computer program created by a kidney transplant recipient. she says she ready to donate tomorrow and is happy to do it. >> i lost a son to cancer 13 years ago in june. and i lost my husband 14 months ago. so i know what it feels like to want an extra day and not being able to have it. >> reporter: six people will now have that chance. in san francisco, rob roth,

ktvu fox 2 news. california's public health department is accused at putting people at risk. their responsibility is to ensure public safety. the auditor issued a letter saying they are dragging their feet on inspections. they are also accused of taking too long to investigate complaints at long term care facilities. >> of all the recommendations view have been implemented. we are continuing to keep them on our list. >> they blame a lack of resources and says it has been requesting help. new at 6:00 p.m. good news for some drivers, bad news for car sales. everyone who drives like the lower gas prices but even though the prices have gone up they are still having a bad impact on electric car sales. ktvu's tom vacar looks that

effort to get people to buy electric cars. >> reporter: pg&e asked car dealers to bring in demonstrators of their vehicles. pg&e also invited some of their employees to try and possibly buy one. >> we want to encourage employees to lead to way. i brought a range of manufacturers out here. >> reporter: they already operates 3500 alternative fuel vehicles. cars and trucks. dealers representing 7 different brands of vehicles from lower end vehicles to detroit's pure electric. the cadillac. instead of using a closed course the employees took to the roads for a better idea of how the cars perform. the one draw back, since gas

a shipment of plants. officials say they discovered a glassy wing sharp shooter during an inspection of plants. the bug can train water out of plants and trees. a tree would need more water to survive and that is triggering serious concerns. authorities are relying on nurseries to notify them when they see the pest. the san jose ballet company is in financial strain. it is the second largest in the state. they need to raise $550,000 in 10 days. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's ann rubin joins us from san jose to tell us about a emergency fundraiser. >> reporter: board members had a choice to make at their friday meeting. close it down or fight to stay open. they decided to fight but there isn't much time. a change at the 49ers museum at levi stadium is ruffling feathers. the changes involve jim harbaugh. this picture was posted on bay area sports guy. it shows a mannequin wearing his out fit. there is also a shot of a covered up plaque. his clothes were replaced with
