people picked through the charred remains of a home after authorities say it was intentionally set on fire. good evening i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. and debora villalon is live in santa rosa where police are calling this arson and attempted murder. >> reporter: one of those house mates is the suspect's own brother who now has serious burns. three people were lucky to escape this place before it was gutted. this front door offered no

escape. blocked by flames as the living room practically exploded. >> put fire to the mattress and all this was on fire. >> reporter: jose uluack is one of seven people who lived in this three bedroom home until he says a house mate soaked his own mattress with gasoline and lit it. >> a patrol officer was driving by and saw the fire. >> reporter: that was lucky, because one resident who smelled smoke got nowhere putting the fire out with water from the kitchen. he ran to warn a man and woman in their bedroom. only moments before they locked themselvess in their bedroom because the suspect was threatening the woman's sister. he says he doesn't know what the trouble was. >> it's my room. >> reporter: residents are

salvages what they can. six adults and 9 -month-old baby are now homeless skwr-tz what are you going to do now? >> i don't know. i'm still looking for another house, i don't know. >> reporter: after starting the fire, the suspect walked away without a word or warning. >> he burned the house and walked away. then he came back like nothing happened. how can that everyone be possible. >> reporter: as the fire was winding down he was spotted watching across the street. >> and we told the police guy, that's the guy that burned the house. >> it's a little odd. you wouldn't expect the suspect to do that. but the residents that were here identified him. there's a little crowd watching the fire department. and they identified him as the suspect. so we went over and detained him. >> reporter: the in custody, samuel alvarez who was in his 40s. his sister-in-law suffered smoke inhalation.

his brother received burns to his face and hands as he was trying to make his escape. south bay authorities are said to begin their fourth day of a man hunt for this suspected child molester who was locked up in a santa clara county jail. as we first reported back on friday, carter overpowered a deputy then slipped away from a san jose hospital during a medical appointment. our coverage continues tonight with ktvu's noelle walker who reports additional resources have now joined the search. >> reporter: one maine -- one minute he was an inmate being taken to the hospital, the next he made his escape to freedom. the alleged child molester attacked a deputy to make his escape from the santa clara county medical center on friday. today hospital security, and

our committee. >> reporter: since her tweet last week, clinton has remained silent. and more on reports that our severe drought could raise hikes from the water district some as much as 30%. the reason for the potential price hike, people are using less water amidst the drought. cara liu live with the impact to your wallet. >> reporter: lower water use typically means lower water bills and because more people are using less water, bay area water districts are under financial pressures because of those lower bills. in montclair we found neighbors tending to her garden. she says she doesn't water but once or twice in an effort to conserve. >> sometimes when we wash the rugs or recycle the water that

we use are safe for indoor plants. >> reporter: her neighbor marie brady says that it's showers only no baths in her household. she also plans to get rid of her grass. >> pretty immediately. take the grass out and put in drought tolerant plants that need less water. >> people are conserving more that mean it is bills that are being paid are coming down ever so slightly. and that over 1.3 million people are drinking bay water today so that does add up. >> reporter: the drought is costing the district 25 million in lost water sales and the the cost of bringing in water from the sacramento area. residents we talked to say they understand the realities of the ongoing drought may mean using less and paying more. >> well i understand. it's been a terrible winter. there's hardly been any rain. so, i can understand that. people are just going to do the

right thing. >> reporter: east bay mud is going to have to talk about a possible increase and drought surcharge in a meeting later this month. heather. >> we'll have to wait and see what happens at those meetings, cara, thank you. water wasters face stiff penalties fines of up to $1,000 are possible for people who water on the wrong day, wrong time or overwater. the time change brought a change in watering rules there in sacramento. people are now allowed to outdoor water twice a week instead of once a week but it must happen before 10:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. sea world san diego is putting its sea lion and otter show on hold so park facilities can help rescue sea lion pups. >> we basically are rehabilitating right now two years worth of what we normally rescue. >> reporter: sea world says it's rescued more than 400 stranded sea lions from california shores this year. park officials say the pups are sickly and thin and need time

to recooperate. they're building two additional pools to accommodate the pups and flying sea lion handlers in from parks in orlando, tampa and texas to help. >> it really chokes me up just this parks commitment. the team members i work with. they're my heros and more of those heros are coming back to help us. >> reporter: it appears the amaceuated pups are not getting enough food but it's not clear why. this is the first time the park has shutdown shows. a north california teen's art inspired by news headlines. >> i think people can look at it however they want. >> i talk about his digital imagine of bill cosby that gained him national attention. and we have just heartbreaking details about a woman hit by a car and left to die. her boyfriend talks with us about the brilliant artist and love of his life that was suddenly lost.

train. according to police around 9:00 tonight two men were fighting on the nummi platform when oneman shoved another on the track. the victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the hospital. the other man ran off. right now the civic center station was closed but trains are running through the station not stopping there. we'll have a crew headed to the scene and we'll let you know more as soon as we learn more about it coming up in this newscast. >> reporter: throughout selma alabama local churches are holding services commemorating the events of bloody sunday.

one service in particular taking place in a church that was a central meeting place during the civil rights movement. that church invited eric holder as a speaker. >> they spoke of equality, of opportunity, of justice. and they also spoke of promises unkept. they made brave and perilless dreams that had been deferred. >> but you know i would have never guessed that just a couple of years ago, that our supreme court would dismantle the voting rights act. because today we should be celebrating but we can't celebrate yet. >> reporter: now this comes a day after president obama former president george w. bush and scores of other politicians and civil rights leaders participated in a ceremonial march over the edmond pettis bridge. they did this in honor of the demonstrators who suffered police beats and tear gas as

they attempted to cross that same bridge back in 1965. televised images of the beatings gained national support for the demonstrators who would later go on to march in greater numbers from selma to the state capital in montgomery. >> what greater expression of faith in the american experiment than this? what greater form of patriotism is there than the belief that america is not yet finished. >> reporter: a series of marchs and ceremonies are marched along the historic march from selma to montgomery. in boston the trial of accused boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev is set to continue tomorrow. the trial started with defense attorneys admitting that their client is guilty. that is seen as a start to try to convince the jury that the 21-year-old was under the influence of his older brother and should be spared. a lady who lost her leg

testified last week and wrote on the facebook page and realized she was no longer afraid of dzhokhar tsarnaev after seeing him in court. news tonight of two more westerners suspected of trying to join the islamic state. australian authorities said two brothers one 16 years old and the other 17 years old were picked up on friday as they tried to pass through customs at sidney airport. the boys were taken into custody when customs officials noticed something suspicious in their bag. the teens were later released to their parents but are expected to face charges. >> these were two misguided young australians and australians born and bred, went to school here, grew up here, yet it seems they had subcomb to the lures of the death call. >> reporter: it's estimated that more than 3,000 have

human being. we're saying that abortion is not immoral and being lgbt, being gay is not immoral. >> reporter: many san francisco catholic school teachers along with eight members of the state assembly and members of the san francisco board of supervisors and the city attorney have all requested that the clauses be removed. supporters of the language argue it is reasonable for parents who send their children to catholic school to be sure that their children will learn authentic catholic teachings. new at 10:00 tonight an announcement from apple that the company's shuttle drivers will be getting a big raise. shuttle drivers have been picketing saying they're under paid and overworked. some also voted to work the teamsters union. today an apple spokesperson said that the people that operate the commute shuttles will get a pay raise. and split shift will be getting

most of the bay area cooled a bit today. temperatures down a good five to 10 degrees. almost looks like the mid-

middle of june with the fog making a big come back. this was picked up late this afternoon into the evening hours. as you can see here so, the fog is already making that push at least approaching the bay and that will be a big factor in our forecast first thing tomorrow morning. also impacting our temperatures as well. as far as the temperatures from this afternoon, boy it's beautiful video. you can see the temperatures maxing out in the 70s still in livermore. 71 in san jose. the official high. san francisco 68 and santa rosa 73 degrees. on the satellite you can see some clouds out to our west and to our south and west. and here's a closer inspection. here's the fog bank hugging a good portion of the bay area coastline. and this will continue to expand in cove for -- coverage for the morning commute. and also out toward the bay in hayward and oak land. current numbers out there. hayward 62 degrees. santa rosa checking in 50 and
