members with life-threatening injuries. >> the fire appeared to begin in the living room but firefighters also had to rescue two other people behind a door in the store. the family says therapy clockwiseope -- they were employee whose opened the store early. people were illegally using the stores a a residential unit. there were smoke alarms installed here. >> i just feel bad, man. wish them the best. >> reporter: firefighters say a 16-year-old helped save his little brother. >> a six-year-old boy and a teenager. the teenager heroic, passed his brother out, made sure he got out. >> a minute ago before we went on the air, san francisco general hospital confirmed two remain in critical condition.

his wife and two other children their condition stabilized. >> thank you. a bay area hospital system is back to square one after a deal to buy them fell through yesterday. ktvu's alally r spoke to the -- allie rasmus spoke to them about what is next. employees are concerned about what is ahead? >> reporter: yeah. some of the employees attended information sessions here at the medical center today. they said hospital management told them the same thing the ceo told us, the daughters of charities will keep their doors open while the search for a new buyer starts all over again. >> reporter: she says morale improved a little now that employees let reality set in. the hospitals will keep their door's open as they search for

another buyer. the ceo says sense the sale fell through daughters of charity had a dozen other buyers contact them. >> last time there were several buyers interested in the whole system and we heard from them already. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: daughters of charity runs six hospitals in california. four in the bay area, two in southern california. they would like the sell all six as a package deal but they are open to selling vinyly as well. -- individually as well. >> chapter 11 is not independent of finding a buyer. >> it is just hard to really think what is going going to happen. >> reporter: their business model of non-profit healthcare doesn't work anymore. >> scary. very scary. i am worried about the employees and stuff.

played a role. in miami, fox news. the police chief of ferguson, missouri agreed to resign effective one week from tomorrow. an hour ago the mayor announced the agreement for thomas jackson to leave the department. thomas jackson has been under fire since the shooting of michael brown. last week there was the report from the department of justice that outlined racism in the police department. the mayor said the city wants to move forward. >> to ferguson residents, business owners and to the country, the city of ferguson look to become a example on how a community could move forward. >> thomas jackson will get a year's pay and he will receive a health insurance plan for one year. a major problem for apple

this afternoon, this was the scene in san francisco today on bryant street. a tow truck got the truck off the taxi cab. the cab got into an accident with a car that pushed it into the truck. the taxi driver went to the

hospital with minor injuries. the berkeley city counsel passed a new law to cut back on crime. certain businesses will have to have surveillance video or they will be fined. they are liquor stores in high crime neighborhoods. rob roth spoke with some store owners and he is live with their reaction. rob? >> reporter: here in south berkeley this liquor store already has security cameras installed. many stores will be required to have them under berkeley's new law. >> reporter: cameras keep watch inside the store and out. >> cameras. systems in place. people aren't going to steal or commit crimes. >> reporter: the city counsel last night passed an ordinance making mandatory security cameras at liquor stores in the highest crime neighborhoods and they must be able to record quality images at night. >> hopefully that will help prevent crime in event

they revisit the bridge together 10 years later. it was the first time he stepped foot on the golden gate bridge since that day and you will hear how their lives have changed and the message they hope to spread. toyota is recalling 100,000 cars and suvs because of problems with power steering controls. 110,000, 2015 cameras and highlander suvs and 2014 and 2015 rav 4 suvs. a circuit board may have been damaged at the factory. it could fail, increasing the effort needed to steer and raising the risk of a crash. they don't know if crash or happened because of the problem. the public met three new african penguin chicks. they have been separated for a while learning how to be hand fed and how to swim.

county line before 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. they suffered a medical emergency before the accident. he was flown to the hospital. no one else was hurt. a stolen car packed with teenagers led the chp on a wild chase. ktvu fox 2 news alex savage shows us the way the chp tracked them down. >> reporter: this stolen white car was missing a front tire after this dangerous early morning pursuit that ended near 90th avenue and mcarthur with six teens jumped from the car and ran. all but one were taken into custody. his daughter was among the passengers along for the wild ride and he wasn't happy as he came to pick her up. >> that hurts me. has me real upset right now. that is a bad decision on her part to be in a car like that and to associate with people

like that. >> the chp says an 18-year-old was behind the wheel during the pursuit. he and two other teens carjacked a woman in downtown oakland around midnight. but just a couple hours later they were on the run and it was because of the car's entertainment system. the chp figured out where the car was by using the gps signal coming from the car. officers spotted the stolen car on highway 24 and pursued it type oakland. -- into oakland. the driver lost his tire and kept going. sparks flying. >> never something we want. we pish they would pull over and yield to the lights. infinitely not everybody does that. >> reporter: the chp says the adult driver and two passengers were arrested for taking the car. the other underaged teens were let go but will have a lot of

we are learning new information about what authorities are calling operation omni. last night fbi and police raided 11 businesses. they were targeting illegal video gambling machines. they could bring in $300,000 a week. ktvu's paul chambers is live now. it also led to violent crime? >> reporter: that's correct. according to investigators out here gang activity, prostitution and a homicide are all linked to these places and although this is an open and active investigation they hope the shut down will reduce the

violent crimes in the area. >> this is what it looked like today. metal gates surrounding the closed business but last night this was the scene when fbi raided the place for illegal activities. >> we did 11 federal search warrants on 11 separate locations. vietnamese cafes and bars. >> reporter: 85 machines were seized. each can bring in 1-$4,000 a week. with that police say comes violent crimes. >> it is tied to organized crime. gang activity. there are a lot of money in the machines. we want to remove those to reduce the amount of violent crimes. >> reporter: this shows where all 11 businesses are located. police say this cafe was also linked to a homicide in december of last year. >> there have been shootings.

we have a homicide linked to that activity. and also quality of life issues. prostitution and drugs. >> although officers can't stop the businesses from reopening they hope cracking down will reduce the crime brought to the area. one man says getting rid of the crime is a good thing but it doesn't matter if the businesses stay or go. >> doesn't hurt me in any way in what we do here. i don't frequent those places. i am neither one way or the other about it. >> reporter: police say there was one arrest made but it wasn't linked to the illegal gambling. and they confiscated $120,000 in cash. if you know about this, call police. >> paul chambers in san jose, thank you. the state board of education suspended the school accountable system for one year. they did that to give teachers

handed deal. he has to be able to do it quickly and he came up with this idea for the glove. it is cool. amazing story. he could be the first ever in the history of baseball to throw with bobble hands with -- both hands with equal skill. >> does he get extra time to warm up or does he still have the same amount of time and has to warm up both arms? >> reporter: that is funny. they are having to create all these new scenarios. they have a rule now that he has to tell the umpire which arm he intend to throw with when he is facing a switch- hitter. he has to make that decision and there are all kinds of things but i don't think they give him extra time to warm up. he has to come in fully loose left handed and right handed. there are so many questions about this story.

scientists gathered in half moon bay to study ship wreck. ktvu's amber lee shows us how they want to learn more about a piece of world war ii history. >> reporter: preparing for the launch of an underwater drone, it will be unmanned, depending on a computer program to survey a aircraft carrier. >> doing three dimensional mapping of the biggest ship

wreck. >> reporter: researchers have pinpointed the ship's location. 30 miles off pillar point. and 3,000 feet under water. boeing manufactured the echo ranger. >> we do a premission program. we load it into the vehicle. release it. at that point the vehicle executes the mission. >> reporter: they conducted multiple test launches. including testing different components to ensure even if the program fails it will surface. it is an expensive piece of equipment worth millions of dollars. scientists say it will help them figure out what is left of the aircraft carrier. to do this they will be used to tow it out to sea and back. >> this gets us down there. flying over the wreck and getting a detailed picture of
