halt for the day. sources say it is related to the animosity between the long shore workers and the pacific maritime association. no indication if the work interruption will continue tomorrow. a family of five had to be rescued from an apartment fire this morning. two parents and three children are in the hospital tonight with very serious injuries. the fire happened in the mission district on 24th street. ktvu's david stevenson found out one brother helped save his younger brother's life before he had to be rescued himself. >> reporter: debris lays outside the liquor store in san francisco's mission district, the wreckage from a fire. >> they are my cousins at the hospital. we are going to go visit them now. >> the family tried to reenter

the store to check for damage. he has run the store and lived above it with his wife and children for 12 years. firefighters contained the fire in 20 minutes but the family suffered serious injuries. >> transported five family members. >> reporter: firefighters had to rescue two other people sleeping in the market. a family member said they were employee whose opened the store early. building inspectors responded to a complaint about people illegally using the store as a residential unit. the owner said the were smoke alarms and said he never heard anything about people sleeping down stairs. >> they are super good at treating the customers. really nice people. >> reporter: news of the fire stunned the neighbors. >> it would be devastating if anything happened to them. they are good people.

you know? >> reporter: firefighters say a 16-year-old helped save his brother before he was rescued. the building has been deemed uninhabitable and an investigation is underway. david stevenson, ktvu fox 2 news. this afternoon san francisco general hospital said he and one of his children remain in critical condition and we checked in with his wife and two other children. two are in serious condition. the third is in critical condition. officers carried out over night raids at oakland businesses. this is what it looked like today. metal gates surrounding the closed business. fbi raided the place for illegal activities. police executed 11 federal search warrants. they seized 85 illegal gaming

mushes. the golding king -- machines. the golding king cafe was linked to a homicide last year. >> a lot of money in these gaming machines so we want to remove those so we can reduce violent crime. >> police say there was one arrest made. it wasn't linked to the illegal gambling and took $120,000 in cash. new at 6:00 p.m. police are searching for an earn containing ashes that was stolen from a home in san francisco. police released this picture of the earn. it has tear drop shape. investigators say it was stolen february 25 from a home. police say the victim is devastated. the ashes that were stolen were from her mother. anyone with information is asked to call police. the ceo of the daughters of charities says new buyers reached out. the ceo says a dozen buyers contacted them. ktvu's allie rasmus explains

what is ahead for the hospital, employees and patients. >> reporter: a fixture in daly city and part of the bay area healthcare landscape -- >> this place is a monument. i can't imagine this place being closed down. >> reporter: it is one of six california hospitals owned by daughters of charities. a deal to buy it and the five other hospitals fell through yesterday. the ceo says all of the hospitals will keep their doors open while the search for another buyer begins again. >> all the efforts are to save the hospital, the jobs and the pensions and everything. >> today employees attended several information sessions on the future. >> at this point i don't know what to believe and what not to believe. it is hard to think what is going to happen. >> reporter: daughters of charities would like to sell all six hospitals as a package deal but they are open to selling individually as well. filing bankruptcy is still an

option. >> the change is coming. but, you know, we are doing everything possible to minimize the hurt. >> i wish the best for this place. hopefully things work out for the best. >> reporter: there is no deadline to find a new buyer. the hospital system is doing better now financially than a year ago so they will let it run its course and take their time finding a new buyer and keep the hospital open. allie rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. lawmakers in sacramento are drafting legislation that would ban the sale of smart tvs that consumer groups say can send voice recordings without the user's knowledge. they say the recordings are used to improve officially of voice command but they say consumers have a right to know their conversations could be recorded eveb when they are not -- even when they are not using voice command functions. >> when a television records

new developments in the case of a baby found dead. prosecutors filed a murder charge against the baby's mother. samantha green was facing lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. her baby was three weeks old when he was found dead on february 24. prosecutors believe she killed her baby on purpose. she is due back on court friday. officials in sacramento county reported two new cases

of tuberculous. the two students are siblings. they go to school in elk grove. 400 students will now undergo skin tests next week to determine whether they have been exposed. the new cases of tb come a month after 16 students in another school in the elk grove school district tested positive for tb. more liquor stores will be putting up surveillance surveillance cameras to stop crime. it makes them mandatory at liquor stores in the high crime neighborhoods and they must be able to record high quality images at night. it was sparked by two homicides in 2013. at the time the store didn't have cameras. the laws comes at a time when violent crime last year was down 25%. >> it has been dropping and continuing to drop. we think this will be helpful. we think this will sunday strong message. >> no liquor store owners
