very dry. it's been that way. we look -- high cloud deck. southern california will be hot. 90 today into sunday. you can see the cloud cover to the hawaiian islands. mix of sun and clouds. 70s for many. mid-70s for a few upper 70s. no record high is expected here. it might be close starting tomorrow recall. more on that coming up in ten minutes. had a couple of issues early. kind of normal traffic. we do have a couple of fender- benders and minor accidents. we do have a lot of slow traffic out there. let's begin with a look at the eastshore freeway, starting ofl between the carquinez bridge and macarthur maze.

that's taking 22 minutes. you are see a backup from the macarthur maze and the metering lights, that are on. you see northbound 17 looks good. 85 is slow. so is 101 north of the capitol expressway. 680 is a little bit slow now. back to the desk. fire investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a blaze that heavily damaged an abandoned church. we're told one firefighter might have been hurt trying to put out the intense flames. tara moriarty is at the scene to tell us what she's learned so far. good morning, dave raw. >> -- good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. we will saw a couch and other items that might suggest that someone was living here. we do know that the owner of

the building was actually in violation of some graffiti but that was all that we know of at this point. now, we know last night, one of the neighbors did take some cell phone video which we would like to show up -- to show you. these are the flames. we're on the corner of broad and capital avenue. one witness saw a homeless person trying to put the fire out herself. >> she's always on the outside. i have never seen her get in. it's pretty boarded up. windows are high. i don't think even if she wanted to, she could. i think it was her home and she was trying to stop it. >> reporter: he other neighbors say transients have used the building and others say they were trying to convert it into a community center. we're told a firefighter

slipped and fell while on the roof but the injury was not believed to be serious. no word on what caused this fire. live from san francisco's ingleside district, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. a 19-year-old man is under arrest accused of killing an oakland woman killed by a stray bullet in west oakland while trying to protect her children. anthony simms faces murder charges in the death of shamiele. outside the home of the young mother, neighbors and friends have been leaving flowers and stuffed animals. pierce was shot and killed monday afternoon as she tried to shield two of her three children from the violence. her children are being cared for by family members. pierce is being remembered as a devoted mother.

>> she loved her kids. bent over backwards. she was a great mother. >> in jesus's name. amen. >> this was an innocent mother, young mother trying to do the right thing. >> police say one of the guns used has been recovered. they are hoping more people will come forward to help track down other suspects. it's tax season. you know and the irs is warning about a very sophisticated scam involve irs imposters. it's sweeping the countries. scammers are calling people claiming they owe money and demanding that it be paid. janine de la vega joining us live now. you are outside an irs office in san jose and you found out these the scammers have called a lot of bay area people, too. >> reporter: there have been numerous cases here in the bay area where people are getting phone calls from fake agents.

people posing as those agents claiming they owe large amounts of money in back taxes. here is an example of one of the phone calls. >> you be -- how much? >> the amount outstanding is $4,550.95. >> what do i do? >> that's a call that a victim recorded and ported on youtube. she wants to make other people aware of what's going on. the scammers threaten arrest or in some cases deportation if the victims don't make a payment. the fees can manipulate caller i.d. to appear as if they are calling from an irs phone number. they may know the last four digits of the social security victim. it's estimated victims have lost $15.5 million. >> very upset, i've had sleepless nights mainly because i feel such a fool and i feel vulnerable. >> reporter: federal officials

warn real agents contact people by mail and never demand payment by credit card or wire transfer. investigators believe there's more than one group of scam artists, operating including overseas. well, this morning in san francisco, a new push to get better pay for drivers of those shuttle buses to take tech workers to their jobs. we're live right now. we're on van ness avenue where the teamsters are trying to give drivers information their union. katie utehs will have a live report on how the teamsters union is saying it's facing scare tactics. a search continues for the gunman who shot two police officers in ferguson, missouri. yesterday, several people were detained and questioned about the shooting. but they were later released. hundreds of people took part in protests yesterday against

police. demonstrators as demanded the resignation of the mayor of ferguson. >> you have to expect violence to come back towards you if you give it out. those officers are alive. mike brown is dead. >> the two wounded officers were released yesterday from the hospital. they are expected to make a full recovery. in an attempt to redice tension, officers from st. louis county -- reduce tension, officers from st. louis and the missouri state patrol are handling protest security. president obama made it clear that the person who shot the two ferguson police officers must be caught and held accountable. >> whoever fired those shouts, shouldn't detract from the issue. they are criminals, they need to be arrested. president obama appeared on the jimmy kimmel tv show and said protesters have a legitimate right to be angry about the mistreatment from law- breaking police officers but he

a third person is facing charges for the killing of a gilroy man inside his home. police say 20-year-old geraldo cisneros is facing murder charges for the killing of another man on february 16th. he was already in custody for an unrelated crime in alameda county. police are looking for a fourth suspect in this case. that suspect has been identified as 17-year-old isabella seen wearing blue in this video. this video shows the teen and another suspect using the victim's credit card. if you have seen her you are urblged to call police -- urged to call police. san jose police want your help they are trying to find a man wanted for a violent robbery. take a look at this police sketch of the suspect. this is in a beating last november of a robbery victim at

a home on east capitol expressway. this man described as either white or hispanic, between 22 and 29 years old. about 5'6" to 5'10". he's got a thin build, black hair and blue eyes. now, police also released this surveillance photo of the suspect's truck. it's a dark colored pickup with a cover that has windows on the back. a serial tagger who was reportedly leaving his mark all around san francisco is now facing several charges. the 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning after someone spotted him tagging public property and they called 911. well, he was tracked to delores park and police say he had several cans of paint with him. they also say he was taking photos of his graffiti. now, he's suspected of being the person who has been spray painting the word cheap everywhere from market street to tresh ire island.

[bleep] >> he's now facing ten felony and 17 misdemeanor charges. a spokesman from the d.a.'s says in most of these vandalism cases, a judge will reduce the felony charges to misdemeanors and those convicted serve minimal jail time. the people we talk to say they hope that's not the case. they say graffiti is ruining the city. it's very exsphynxive to clean up and -- expensive to clean up and somebody needs to pay for it. people in san francisco who decide to relieve themselves against the wall of a building, public works is considering painting the walls with a water repellent paint. any liquid rebounds right on the shoes and pants of the offender. it started be to be used in the

the other side. i do want to mention the traffic on 680 through walnut creek and concord is doing well. i want to fast forward to the south bay maps. southbound 680 at 101, there is an injury accident. there is a backup here, as you can see, coming down to this area. southbound 680 at 101. after that on northbound 280 it's a little slow at highway 17. the time is 7:17. let's go to steve in the weather center. >> thank you, sir. we do have a beautiful sunrise here. a lot of pictures coming in. robin from pleasant hill. a couple of -- i've seen a bunch on twitter. tropical clouds coming in. that adds to the mix. it's making for warm lows. san jose 52. normal is 47. high temperatures will be a good 10 degrees above average. normal is 67 this time of year. the record high not that long ago, 802004, the record low, i love these. 1897 when it was 28 in little, little san jose.

for san francisco, 55. 65. >> we'll go 70 for a high. that's 8 above average. oakland downtown will be in the mid-70s. 53, 68 at noon. we'll go for a high of 70 at noon. mostly sunny, partly cloudy. there's still plenty of clouds rolling through even though the ridge of high pressure is building. occasionally you get mostly cloudies and then mostly sunny. but boy it will feel tropical like. 40s and 50s on the temps. they will rebound. you can see the higher clouds spilling over. the bulk stay to the north. southern california starting this weekend will be near 90 degrees. if you are heading down there for the l.a. marathon, they are starting a half-hour earlier because it's going to be so hot down there. las vegas looking for their first 80-degree temp of the season. no problem there. up in the mountains, it's in the 20s. truckee 25. blue canyon, already 52 warm degrees. there's warm air aloft. look at the moisture.

it continues to move up from honolulu. you can see below that fox 2. most of it is heading north. some of it is finally pushing out of the heavyian islands -- heavyian islands -- hawaiian islands. at least it looks like they are seeing a little bit of break from what's been nonstop rain and clouds for many. the temperatures are moving north. friday into saturday will be the warmest day. sunday's system will clip us. main rain well to the north. mix of sun and clouds. 70s for many. a few upper 70s. would not be surprised to get 80s. farther north more clouds. again -- they may take one, two degrees off some of these. they will still be in the warm category. it looks like 80s tomorrow for san jose. maybe even santa cruz and cappy toe lay. 70s on the peninsula. 70 in the city.

the two secret service agents drove right true an active bomb -- through an active bomb investigation. according to the washington post, about 10:25 p.m. on march 4th a woman approached an agent near the entrance to the white house, put an object on the ground and claimed it was a bomb, then drove off. just after 11:00 p.m. that night, the two secret service agents coming back from a farewell party drove their government car right through the crime scene. reportedly, surveillance video shows the agents driving right next to that suspicious package. later that night an explosives

team determined the package was not a bomb. back here at home, california may soon enforce tough new water regulations since it looks like we'll have a fourth year of drought. the state water resources control board is expected to vote on tuesday on toughening water usage rules and if it's passed, the proposal would limit households to two days a week of outdoor watering beginning next month. restaurants will be banned from offering water to customers unless they ask for it and violaters could be fined up to $500 per violation. a special one-stop shot at st. anthony's offered free makeovers to homeless women in hopes of helping them find a job. 30-year-old nicole hatch was one of them. she told ktvu she and her 3- year-old daughter emily came to san francisco from vacaville to escape domestic violence. when nicole got sick, she had to quit her job.

northbound and that's just moderate. now, let's go back to the desk. >> all right, sal. the teamsters union says it's been getting pushback as it tries to get higher salaries for the drivers of shuttle buses for technology companies. support rally is going on right now in san francisco right along van ness avenue. katie utehs, you've been out there all morning. what's going on? >> reporter: these drivers are not paid tech wages. the teamsters are working to get them better wages. they were forced to picket this morning. hundreds of bus drivers have already voted to union tides with the teamsters lowell 665 -- local 66 a. we're -- 66 a. we're out -- 665. we're out here talking to them

directly. the teamsters are trying to get the drivers to a wage of about $24 an hour from $18 and better working conditions, including healthcare and paid vacation. union rep explains the conflict. >> we were out trying to talk to drivers, as happens in a normal unionizing drive. but this company maim very hostile. they sent management out, prevented us from talking to the drivers. and then what we did, we moved about a quarter mile away from the work site and they followed us over there and we're conducting surveillance in our view illegally of these drivers who we were trying to contact for a union organizing drive. >> reporter: you are looking at video of a union picket outside of an apple location in february. the apple headquarters. this is a tact that's proved successful for the union in the

past. the teamsters have unionized people who drive for the company contracted with facebook. you can hear the honks in the background. those are bus drivers lending horn honks of support for the picketers. we have reached out regarding the allegations and are waiting to hear back. the union filed a labor complaint. the shuttle buses have been backed by some city leaders because the buses keep traffic off of city streets. there are, you know, thousands of people in the bay area that work for these tech companies and by putting them on the buses, that's keeping them out of their individual cars. now, this seems to be the direction that the shuttle bus drivers are heading with the unionization. the union rep tells me in a matter of months, they have orged and vote -- organized and voted to union which is a lot quicker than other union efforts he's had in the past. >> katie utehs in san francisco. we'll talk to you later.

7:36. well, steel workers at the tesoro refinery in martinez may be going back to work soon after reachal tentative agreement. they've been off the job since february after workers went on strike. the tentative contract also affects workers at six other refine rips nationwide -- refine rips nationwide-- refineries nationwide. florida governor rick scott trying to lure companies away from california after the nine- month long labor cry skis at west coast ports. the republican governor sent a letter to companies to urge them to move to florida and away from west coast ports. governor scott plans to visit california next month to make his case. his letter also took some shots at what he calls jerry brown's tax and spend administration. 7:37.

police in san francisco are warning about a man they say tried to lure a young boy into his car. here is a sketch of the suspect. police say the 10-year-old boy was waiting for a bus on karl and cole streets one week ago when a man tried to convince him to get into his car. police say the boy declined and went into a nearby restaurant. the man is described as white in his 30s or 40s with slicked back black hair and facial stubble. police say he was in a toyota or honda. people in fairfield are protesting the possibility of a high-risk sex offender living in the community. frazier smith has petitioned for conditional release at a home. deputies say if he's released ed will be monitored by gps and face certain restrictions. a public hearing has been

scheduled for march 27th. 7:38. the children of eddie andrini are suing the air force. they say slow response time caused the death of their father. 77-year-old eddie died may 4th after crashing his plane right here during a routine maneuver at the airshow. but the coroner ruled he did not die in the crash. instead, he died from severe burns when the plane caught fire. according to the lawsuit, the first fire truck didn't arrive on the scene for four and a half minutes. documents say the firefighters should be stationed right next to the flight path. >> we understand the firefighters weren't in the station at all. they were across the field taking pictures of airplanes on the grass. now, this attorney expects the air force to respond to the lawsuit but in the end, he says

he predicts they will probably deny any wrongdoing. 7:39. highway 24 in oakland is back open this morning after a deadly crash involving a man on the roadway. the highway patrol says the man was hit near highway 13 at 9:00 last night. there is still no word on what he was doing on the freeway. investigators also found some debris on highway 13 which they say may possibly be related. the crash blocked westbound lanes of highway 24 for more than two hours. there's a lot of praise this morning for a hayward based chp officer whose quick thinking and action likely saved the man's life. the officer works in hayward but lives in folsom. he was on his way to work when he saw several cars stopped on interstate 5. a pickup truck driver who was towing a trailer had veered off a highway overpass and nose dived into the river below. >> i went down and tripped down to my sweats in a white t- shirt, jumped in the water

because i didn't want to lose him. >> the victim was still conscious and said he was having heart problems. he was able to reach his her medication. he tried to help him escape through the window. but decided it was best to wait until firefighters arrived. he says the successful rescue was a team effort. a knew biography out march 24th is reportedly loaded with steve jobs. it's the reckless upstart into a visionary leader. one of the most interesting revelations involves tim cook who reportedly offered a portion of his own liver to jobs after learning jobs had panatic can -- pancreatic cancer. but jobs adamantly refused. it was the first time in their

five people have been diagnosed with hepatitis-a in napa. two of them work in restaurants. so there's concern that there could be others infected. now, the health department says two of the hepatitis patients work at restaurants in the westin hotel. the two restaurants share the same kitchen. the hotel is sending out warning notices to everyone who stayed there in the last month but people who just ate at one of the restaurants may not get the notice. >> if they had been in one of the two tase places or both -- two places or both during the time period we put out, they should talk to the doctor. >> now, hepatitis-a is a liver

disease. it's you caused by the virus which is usually tied to restaurant workers not properly washing their hands after using the bathroom. it's often associated with unsafe drinking water. so far health inspectors do not know the source of the infection so far in napa. the health department does say people who ate or drank at the hotel restaurants between february 9th and the 26th may have been exposed. they should watch for flu-like symptoms. more on what's being on to find out the exact source of that hepatitis infection in napa. >> thank you. 7:46. new details this morning about the arrest of 49ers fullback bruce miller. santa clara police say miller and his fiance were arguing last thursday night outside of a bagel shop in river mark plaza. at some point, he reportedly pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground and her cell phone was broken. now, miller was arrested at a hotel two miles away.

he was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor spousal battery. he was released after posting bail. no charges have been filed. well, will ferrell has played a news anchor, a race car driver, even played the world's tallest elf but last night he took on probably his most challenging role. he subbed for buster posey. he suited up for ten different teams yesterday, part of a special and campaign to raise money for cancer research. he arrived in a helicopter. after striking out as a chicago white sox player, they traded him to the giants. so he switched uniforms and he played catcher for the giants. he tried to. he started by playing short stop with the oakland as. >> how much money you make? a lot of money? pretty lucrative?

california public schools hit the lottery jackpot kind of. want to show you video of a man that lottery officials say bought a winning powerball ticket worth a million dollars. now, this surveillance video you are looking at, it's from a grocery store just outside of l.a. back in september. since the man did not come forward to claim his prize by the deadline of 180 days, which was 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the money goes to california public schools. a man and his two sons in concord, are sharing a million- dollar powerball win. the ticket was purchased at monument wine and spirits for the february 28th drawing. it matched five numbers but not the powerball number. the men say they will probably use their winnings to pay down their mortgages but have other

highway 17. you will see some slowing and i put the san mateo bridge in first. i think i put it in first. no. we're going to 280 in a moment. northbound 280 is going to be slow. i want to show you that camera if we get it up. i think we have a problem with the camera. there it is. you see all of the slow traffic. that's because of an earlier incident up near the lawrence expressway. that's gone. but the traffic is still very slow. on fridays, as you know, this is somewhat unusual. we usually get a break on a friday. let's go to the concord area. southbound 680 is moderately heavy as you drive through. in western contra costa county, you will see slow traffic from pin nome valley road -- pinole valley road. the traffic on the bridge looks okay as you drive into the city. it's 8:02. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. an investigation is underway into a fire at an abandoned church in

investigation. there are reports that a firefighter was hurt while trying to put out the fast- moving flames. tara moriarty reports that someone may have been living there. >> reporter: we're told that that firefighter slipped and fell from the rooftop during this firefighter but luckily, the injury is not serious. now, here is some video we would like to show you, cell phone video from a neighbor. it shows flames coming from the front door of this old church. we're here on the corner of broad and capitol avenue close to daly city. one once reported seeing a homeless person trying to put out the fire herself. >> i don't think it got outside. i think it was set inside. it was coming like down and out, instead of building out in front of the door. >> reporter: we looked inside thed withs and -- windows and saw a couch suggesting someone was living here. neighbors say they think it was trying to be converted into a community center.

tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. 19-year-old man is under arrest accused of killing an oakland woman hit by a stray bullet in west oakland while trying to protect her children. anthony sims is set to appear in court this morning. he faces murder charges in the death of 350-year-old shimie pierce. police say he -- 30-year-old shimile pierce. police say outside of the home of the young mother, neighbors and friends have been leaving candles and flowers. she was killed trying to shield three of her young children from the violence. her children are being cared for by family members. pierce is being remembered as a devoted mother. >> loved our kid. bent over backwards. that's one thing you can say about her. she was a great mother. >> in jesus's name. >> praise god. >> this was an innocent mother, young mother, trying to do the

right thing. >> police say at least one gun from the shooting has been recovered. they are hoping more people will come forward with tips to help track down other suspects. 8:04. >> it's tax season. conartists are preying on tax payers, scammers posing as irs agents are calling people claiming they owe money and demanding that they pay it. janine de la vega joins us live from the irs office in san jose with more on how the scam works. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. you can tell it's tax time. people are lined up at this irs office waiting to get help from the irs. the federal government doesn't want people to fall victim to any scams and unwittingly pay money to thieves. it starts with a threatening phone call that sounds official. >> this call is to let you know regarding the irs warrant which has been issued. are you aware of this?

>> no. >> reporter: there are tons of video from uc berkeley that victims have recorded of the fake irs agents calling claiming taxes weren't paid correctly and more money is owed. the conartist threatens arrest or in some cases deportation if they don't pay. this has cost tax payer $15.5 million. the thieves can teen manipulate caller i.d. to make it look like they are calling from the irs. they may even know the last four digits of the tax payer's number. the irs always contact by mail and never demand payment by credit card or wire transfer. the scam is so widespread. investigators believe there's more than one group of scam artists operating including some overseas. tori? >> janine de la vega live for us in san jose. thank you. we're watching san francisco and a new push this morning to get better pay for

a third person is facing charges for the killing of a

gilroy man inside his home. the man is facing murder charges for the killing of 56- year-old joseph highser. cisneros was already in custody for an unrelated crime in alameda county. police are still looking for a fourth suspect in the case. that suspect is 17-year-old isabella seen wearing blue on the left of this surveillance video. police say this video shows the teen and another suspect using the victim's credit card. if you have seen her, you are urged to call police. santa rosa police say a man was kidnapped earlier this week right in front of his wife and young children and held for ransom. investigators say the 25-year- old man was abducted at gunpoint tuesday night from a home on guerneville road. the family got a call demanding money for his safe release. but the man escaped from his captors in modesto. stanislaus county deputies arrested the two kidnapping suspects in a stolen car. officers say the kidnapping is

believed to be linked to marijuana sales. 8:13. police in san jose want your help this morning, they are trying to find a man wanted for a violent robbery. take a look at the sketch of the suspect in the beating of a robbery victim last november at a home on east capitol expressway. this man described as being either white or hispanic, between 22 and 29 years old, about 5'6" to 5'10", has a thin build and has black hair and blue eyes. police also released this surveillance photo of the suspect's truck. a dark-colored pickup. it has a cover on the back with windows. a serial tagger who has reportedly left his mark all around san francisco is facing several charges. the 18-year-old was arrested yesterday morning after someone spotted him tagging public property and called 911. he was tracked to delores park where police say he had multiple cans of paint with him. they also say he was taking pictures of his graffiti. he is suspected of being the

person who has been spray painting cyst and sheep every -- crist and sheep everywhere. >> what does that mean? why did you write that -- >> crist means crystal meth. [bleep] >> a spokesman from the district attorney's office said in most of these vandalism cases, a judge will reduce the felony charges to misdemeanor and those convicted serve minimal jail time. but people we spoke to say they hope that's not the case here. they say graffiti is ruining the city and it's expensive to clean up and someone needs to pay for it. people in san francisco who decide to relieve themselves against the wall of a building may find out that can backfire literally. check out the video. san francisco's department of public works is considering painting buildings with a high-

cloudy skies. probably won't matter to a hill of beans down in southern california. near 90 over the weekend for los angeles. in fact, record-setting heat for much of california. a lot of high clouds. could take a few temperatures down a notch or two. but a few 70s. a mix of sun and high clouds. it will feel muggy, warm. a few pushing the other 70s especially toward the valley and east. all right. sal. how are we doing. westbound 80 at carlson, a crash. we'll start there. traffic will be busy because of a motorcycle accident that's blocking two lanes of the nimitz -- or of the eastshore freeway. westbound 80 at carlson. medics on the way. they may have already arrived. but traffic will be slow from as far back as richmond. this is for the late morning commute. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, there is already a backup of 20 minutes at the toll plaza, but it's improving a little bit as you drive into san francisco. what is not good is 880

northbound coming out of san leandro. there was an earlier stalled vehicle in the middle of this mess up near downtown oakland. things are improving. this vehicle is -- has been removed but traffic is slow. we've been talking about san jose, 280 is improving. we had an earlier accident on 280 northbound. 280 and 101 and 85 are getting better. if you can wait a little bit. that may be better for you. back to the desk. now last itest push to unionize more tech bus drivers -- latest push to unionize more tech bus drivers. ktvu fox 2 reporter katie utehs, in san francisco now live where the union claims that organizers have been hit by some scare tactics. what's going on? >> reporter: well, first off, dave, much of this union i station has been happening without any of us noticing -- unionization has been happening without any of us noticing. but yesterday, the teamsters ran into some problems,

according to they. union members say bowers employees got between them in efforts to unionize. so they've organized a picket, as you can see. we're on van ness. the drivers at the center of all of -- of all of us. the teamsters are trying to get the drivers with bowers a wage increase from about $18 to $4 an hour. and -- $24 an hour. and working for better conditions, including healthcare and paid vacation. it's something that city supervisors have pushed for, too. because for them the tech buses keep people off the road during commute. they see it as a positive boost for the city. there are many players involved. but the rep for the teamsters says tech companies let the unionization play out on its own.

>> the tech companies are a third party and often sometimes stay out of it and watch in process play out. these are lower wage service workers. they are not programming or anything like that. i think that the tech companies are taking a back seat and watching this play out. >> you are looking at video of a union picket outside of apple back in february. this tactic has worked for the teamsters in the past. they've unionized several hundred bus drivers including those who drive for the company loop contracted with facebook. we've reached out to bowers regarding the allegations of interference. we're waiting to hear back. the union has filed a labor relations complaint following yesterday's interaction. so the commute has been busy this morning. there have been a lot of honks in support of this through drivers already unionized or for those who may be voting to unionize soon.

office. deputies say if he is released he will be monitored by gps and face certain restrictions. a public hearing about the matter has been set for mar- 27th -- march 27th. anyhas a history on its hands. it's making people sick. pam cook is in the studio with a warning about hepatitis. pretty serious stuff. >> five people have been diagnosed with hepatitis-a in any. two of them work in restaurants. there's concern that there could be more cases. the health department says two of the hepatitis patients work at restaurants in the westin hotel. hepatitis-a is a liver disease. it's caused by a virus which is often tied to poor personal hygiene such as not properly washing hands after using the bathroom. it can also be associated with unsafe drinking water. but the health department does not know the exact source of this virus and said there's no evidence that the outbreak started at the hotel. >> the last few times we've

seen hepatitis-a outbreaks in the united states. they've been in frozen foods prepared elsewhere, contaminated at the source where they were picked and/osh processed -- and/or processed. >> all five people diagnosed are now answering a nine-page questionnaire that tracks what they have eaten and where they have eaten in the past few months to see if there is a common thread. the health department says the risk of contracting hepatitis-a is low at this point, but to be on the safe side, anyone who ate at the westin should watch for flu-like symptoms. santa clara clerk's office is under fire for a mistake on the ballot. ten candidates are running for the city council seat. it's been vacant since chu won a seat in the state assembly. all candidates have a diamond

symbol next to their name. that means the candidate agreed to voluntary limit candidate spending but one candidate, nguyen, did not agree to the cap. now the office plans to send out brochures alerting the voters about the error. he says this could hurt his campaign. >> they aussed irrepairable harm to my -- caused irrepairable harm to my campaign. >> fixing the error is costing treamps $15,000. most of that will be -- tax payer $15,000. most of that is for postage. steel workers at the tesoro refinery may be back at work soon. they've been off their job since february when management shut down the refineries after workers went on strike. the contract effects workers at six other refineries around the

citizenship. he became bureau chip in 2012 -- chief in 2012. was he ever worried about being detained? >> i think he always saw a big difference between some of the other cases of detained americans and himself. jason always followed the rules. he was there legally and was a credentialed journalist. >> douglas, it's not clear what charges he faces. secretary of state john kerry says he's constantly bringing up the fate of jason in negotiations with iran and the new york times said he may be serving as a pawn in some kind of iranian struggle. why do you think he's being held? >> it's really unclear. was a fully accredited journalist. he was doing terrific reporting from iran giving our readers onto the -- onto the world there. when we send reporters to war zones and natural disasters, we recognize the dangers. what we don't expect is a

government like iran would arrest someone like jason, hold him without disclosing charges, not allow him access to a lawyer and proceed in a very unjust, unfair way. we've tried to make clear it's time for iran to play by the rules. >> have you been able to communeny kate with your brother -- communicate with your brother? >> i haven't been able to speak to him. my mother has several times. his wife is able to speak with hill. i think right now, my biggest concern for him personally is his physical and mental condition. it's been difficult for him there for eight months. physically, he's had health problems. but he's also under a great deal of stress and it's very crash -- very concerned. it takes a big toll on him that she's not getting iranian justice that he believes he deserves, the protections he should have. >> what can someone do to help support your brother's release? >> so, you know, we have had

traffic is very slow as you come through the area, although they've been making progress in getting the accident out of the way. they are waiting for a tow truck but the traffic is going to be slow coming out of the hilltop mall area. if you are driving farther west out to the bay bridge toll plaza, it looks like the traffic is improving here. part of the reason is because of the accident i just told you about it's holding people back. if you have to get to the bay bridge, you may want to take advantage of a window of opportunity to get through. looking at the commute in san jose, that's improving a little bit as well as we had earlier problems on 280 northbound right near the lawrence expressway and saratoga. traffic is slow. and in general, things are improving. still have a couple of slow ones out there. let's go to steve in the weather center. on this friday, a lot of high clouds streaming over. 40s, 50s on the lows. all signs point to above normal temps. may not feel like it for some.

these higher clouds could play into a mostly cloudy saturday and it will still be mild to warm. there will be a system brushing us on sunday for a little cooldown, possibility of rain to the north late sunday more likely into monday. farther north maybe. high clouds are here. they will keep temps feeling tropical storm. southern california looking ready to bake. upper 80s, 90s start today and take them into sunday. the l.a. marathon is starting a half- hour earlier because it's so hot. 53 in blue canyon already. pretty mild temps. it just continues. this is the one that gave us rain earlier this week. i know it wasn't much but it holds a lot of moisture. we don't have any dynamics associated with it. they go all the way down and past the hawaiian islands. you can see where the -- where most of it is heading up to the pacific northwest. there may be enough air to keep temperatures from reaching the low 80s for some. but it's gonna be mild to warm.
