because they are suspending their search because there is nowhere else to look. >> this is where volunteers a little later on this morning will be gathering to start one of their regular saturday searches. this something going to be the last formal organized weekly search for clues in the disappearance of sierra lamar who went missing three years ago today. i have with me roger nelson, he's the volunteer search coordinator. you and some of the volunteers have been here week after week every saturday except for a few holidays for the last three years. i think people would find that dedication impressive. what brings you guys every week. >> i think it's a group of exceptional volunteers and it represents the best of the bay area, so the reason we're here is to bring sierra home to her family. if it provides some element of

closure that's the motivation. >> they're expected to make an announcement that they're suspending their regular saturday searches but you were telling me that doesn't mean the end of the search for her. >> it doesn't. what the family will announce, they're suspending the formal aspect of the searches. we're reaching out to the public for viable and specific information and tips and we'll still be receiving those and we'll be evaluating and acting on those tips. also should anything come out in the trial, that is helpful for us in our sips, than we can -- searches than we can reform as a passionate group. >> a man was charged with her murder, his trial has not begun yet. you're hoping once the trial starts more information will come out that will legal volunteers to more clues. >> yes, we'll be going on that information and three years of

drugs and he was 41. >> they heard gunshots and they saw plain clothed officers with the suspect on the ground. >> two had their guns drawn, one was standing over the guy and one was standing off to the side. >> our chopper took motorcycle the suspect had been riding on prior to the shooting. police are not commenting on what led up to that shooting, they say they did recover a gun belonging to the suspect. >> these are tragic for the individuals as well as for the family and officers involved. there's a ripple out effect. >> as standard procedure, the officer who opened fire is now on paid leave pending the results of the investigation. the office certificate a member of the police department special enforcement unit, there was another deadly police shooting in the same neighborhood back in 2010. >> there are new questions about security and the san

francisco airport following the breach. the san francisco district attorney says adrian santos was found on the tarmac on wednesday. she was trying to stowaway like the south bay teenager, another woman named marilyn hartmanman managed to get through security before she was caught. a spokesman said the community in this incident worked as it should. >> the guard observed the transient bypassing the gate arm at the vehicle check point and followed the proper procedures. >> post 9-11, every time there is a breach of our security at some point, it raises red light and we need to explore it and get better. >> sheep faces a fine of $1,000 and time in county jail. her trial is in the first week of april. they're looking for the

people who brutally beat this son. he two strangers approached and asked if he belonged to the gang and the strangers followed the boy to the parking lot they were asked if they belonged to a gang. after the teens once again said no, the strangers jumped them. christian was punched twice and fell down and smashed his head down on the ground. >> it's not what you remember your son as. he has tubes and machines feeding. >> after the attack, doctors are planning to bring him out of his coma and the mall caught the suspects on video, but did not catch the incident. a man suspected of being a

serial tagger, an 18-year-old andrew i can't bow is the suspected vandal sprays the words around the city. he was charged on 17 counts, a judge released him penneding a decision on whether or not to file charges. a mass protest is scheduled for today at justin her man plaza, many of the protestors will be protesting in the nude. the world naked bike ride takes off today. hundreds of people around the world will be protesting about dependency on oil. they'll take protestors through popular spots in the city, fisherman's work along the 'em bar codare owe and -- embarcodaro and other places. this starts at 11:30 and it will make its way down market

street down to center plaza. this parade runs two hours and focuses -- features irish bands. the navy band is in the parade. they'll be performing for us beginning in our 8:00 hour. police and firemen are joining in. this is the largest parade and it draws more than $100,000 people -- 100,000 people. this runs from 10 to 5. admission if you would like to go, is free. it will have live performances including a petting zoo and arts and crafts. you may not have realized this but today is pi day, pi day, and it's considered a once- in-a-lifetime pi day. >> all you mathematicians out

the top stories we're following you this morning. an investigation is under way into a deadly police shooting in the city of napa. an officer shot and killed a 41- year-old suspect yesterday. they were serving a warrant against him on drug and gun charges they've not released the identity of the suspect. the officer does belong to the napa police department special enforcement unit. a person is in a medically induced coma, christian rasmer and his friend and two young men were asked if they were in a gang and they were asked twice and then they were beaten. no arrests have been made. a missing morgan hill teenager sierra was missing after she was going to catch a bus every day. they looked for her every day.

left. scientists warn the states needs to enforce tighter water restrictions and protect groundwater sources and the water resources control board will discuss recommendations by staff scientists for restrictions already in place. >> we're looking at new prohibition also to make sure restaurants are not serving water unless the customers are requesting it, the hotels and motels are giving guests the option of not having their sheets and towels laundered. >> east bay mud says its reservoirs are about 54% capacity, they've asked customers to cut water use by 15% and has only seen a 4% decrease in use. a team of high schoolers will be in a national science tech follow and engineering and math competition. 9 students designed a water system to reduce home water use by at least 20%.

overhead and that he is why for some of us -- that's why for some of us it feels warm and humid. a few places are in the upper 40s but most of us relatively mild, 48 in napa and 48 in half moon bay. this ridge of high pressure will keep our temperatures up. we'll be anywhere from 5, 10, 15 degrees above the seasonal arrangement we can break records today. as we get through the morning hours in san francisco, we have 60 degrees. noontime lows expected for the afternoon. dublin also has a nice fifth going on there today. you'll be nice as warm as well. 72 in sausalito. as we head to the east bay, temperatures range from the low to mid-70s, to low 80s for livermore brentwood, southbound 80s in your forecast as well.

investigation, the suspicious package turned out to be a book. they wanted to test the agents for dui but was overruled by a higher ranking officer. this was filled with a huge amount of pirated music. that raid targeted a home and agents in the recording industry association of america, they left with a truckload of evidence. >> the district attorney nancy o'malley tells us she's planning to travel to washington, d.c. to ask for money to clear the backlog of rape testing kits. >> i'll be with the vice president and he's strong on promoting law enforcement to test those kits. >> president obama is proposing $41 million on top of that $41 million. she hopes some of that funding will be given to alameda

health watch. he said he was in mental health facilities 70 years before it got straightened out. they have not commented on the story they have tools designed on the site to for people who think about harming themselves. this is all for a good cause, it's part of the 8th and you'll head shaving fundraiser. they raise money for childhood cancer research. it's more than about raising funds. it's about showing solidarity for young cancer patients who are going through chemotherapy. >> our class is fourth graders, this is the third year they've done it. it's been awesome to have that age and have that level of commitment to do something. >> 200 people offered to shave their heads today and raised

gathering, they have tissue boxes set up here. imagine for the last three years a group of dedicated volunteers, 10 to 20 people have spent every single saturday heading out on foot looking for clues in the disappearance of morgan hill teenager sierra lamar, they have posters and pictures set up. they have pictures of the volunteers who have dedicated every weekend coming out to do this. she disappeared three years ago, every saturday since then volunteers have been heading out as part of these search parties. today the family is expected to announce that they're going to end these regular saturday searches, regular weekend searches and they're going to start searching, continue their search to find her, but approach it in a different way. until they have tips they're not going to send people out

combing through the area with nothing to go on. we have the volunteer coordinator. he's busy but is rushing over here to talk to us. this has been your job for the last few years. you've been involved in these searches for the last three years. how do you feel this is not part of regular routine anymore? >> i share the passion with a lot of other people. there's a, there's two feelings about it, one is that the facts that are viable search inventory has dried up and that's one of the main reasons for the suspension of formal searches. on the other hand, there's a frustration we have not yet achieved a goal of beginning sierra home and i admire the passion of these people so much. >> you guys have recovered a lot of ground in the last three years, how many searches have you done, and how much search time what are the numbers here. >> a he have done 1130

be out here at 9:00 to formally announce that they will not be continuing these regular searches. sheriff deputies arrested torres of kidnapping and murdering the teen. her body has never been found. they're confidence that they have enough evidence to prove her. they found lamar's dna in his car, he's pleaded not guilty to all charges. the major county task force is joining the investigation in the deadly shooting in the city of napa. >> it happened in spring street near highway 121 in napa. the napa police had a home in surveillance. >> they were serving a search warrant for a 41-year-old suspect who was wanted on drugs and firearms charges. we're not sure what happened

during that surveillance, but neighbors say they heard three gunshots. they saw napa plain clothed officers standing over a suspect lying on the ground. >> one was standing off to the side, and there was one standing over the guy. >> our chopper took those pictures. that motorcycle there was the suspect's he had been riding on it prior to the shooting. police are not commenting on what led up to the shooting. they did recover a gun belonging to that suspect. >> these are tragic for the individual as well as for the family members as well as for the officers involved and for their families as well. there's ripple out effect. >> and as standard procedure, the officer who opened fire is now on paid leave pending the results of the investigation, we did he not have the name of that officer, but we know that the office certificate the

major crimes task force is joining the investigation into a deadly police shooting in the city of napa. it happened around 5:00 last night in spring city in the alta heights neighborhood. highway 121 there on the map. police say napa police have surveillance over a home. neighbors say they heard three gunshots and when they went outside to see what happened, they saw plain clothed officers standing over the guy. >> they were standing over the guy. one was standing just off to the sky. >> now a chopper flew over that scene taking pictures of the motorcycle. the suspect had been riding that motorcycle prior to the shooting. now, police are not saying right now what led up to the shooting. they did tell us they recovered a gun that belonged to the suspect. >> these are tragic for the

harming themselves. an american health care worker who contracted ebola why volunteering in sierra leone arrived at a maryland hospital for treatment. doctors at the national institutes of health say the worker is in serious condition. they have not released any information on the identity of the the person. this person is the eighth person in u.s. with ebola. and the second to be admitted into the national institutes of health. the new president at the california public utilities commission want to increase the fine against pg&e for the san bruno pipeline disaster. the 2010 explosion killed eight people and leveled part of the neighborhood. the state puc president wants the fine to be $1.6 billion. 200million more than a previous recommendation. about half the proposed penalty would go to improve pipeline safety. they could vote on it as early

as april 9. monday marks the third anniversary of the disappearance of sierra lamar. the high school student was heading to school when she vanished without a trace. relatives and friends and volunteers is been searching for her ever since. but after thinking long and hard, her family says they have made a tough decision. ktvu fox 2 news' allie rasmus is live at the search center in morgan hill where her family made that announcement a short time ago. >> reporter: they made that announcement about 30 years ago. her father steve lamar says i want to make this clear. we are not giving up the search for sierra, but we are switching to a different mode. so from now on, instead of having these regular saturday searches as they have the last three years, they are only going to call on their search team and their volunteers if they get a tip or some specific information about where to go. we are outside the morgan hill community center where volunteers have been gathering since this morning. there are still a few people out here. there were probably about 50 to 80 people who gathered for a

prayer circle out here. now some of the volunteer groups have started to head out and go out on that search area this morning. i have with me this morning. ma class with the class kids foundation. your organization has been involved with these searches since the beginning. almost three years ago. rain know in talking to some of the volunteers they said they felt like they let the family down because in the last three years, they haven't found sierra lamar. but that's not the case right? all this work they have put into it has meant something. >> well, we know where she is not. we know the family is in remarkably good shape given the circumstance thank to the support they have gotten from the community around them that has grown over the last three years and will continue to support them into the future. >> there was a lot of hugging. the search coordinator said it was a bit of a reunion.

>> east bay mud says its reservoirs are at about 54% capacity. the water agency has asked customers to cut water use by 15%. but has only seen a 4% decrease in use. a team of high schoolers from east san jose will be representing the state of california in a national science technology engineering and math competition. nine students from downtown college prep high school have designed a water system to reduce home water use by at least 20%. it is called don't waste a drop. the students designed the system and their teachers backyard. the students will soon be competing for $120,000 at the samsung competition in new york. well, a special delivery in new jersey. how one doctor used a function on her iphone to help deliver a baby. >> but first, museums across europe are banning the selfie stick. the reason some tourists say they are happy with that ban.
