going to face determination. the messages came to light in the case of a sergeant who was recently convicted on corruption charges. a man hunt is under way in los angeles after two plain clothed police officers were wounded by gunfire. police say they have taken several people into custody but are searching for two others. police officials say the officers were driving just before 6:00 this evening. tonight a 20-year-old man is behind bars in ferguson missouri accused of shooting two police officers there during last week's protest. as ktvu's noelle walker reports, the man has said he did fire the gun but he says he never meant to hit the police. >> reporter: new developments tonight in ferguson missouri, this is 20-year-old jeffrey williams the man investigators say fired the shots early thursday morning that hit one st. louis area police officer in the shoulder and another in the face.

>> he is now charged with two counts of assault in the first degree for the two police officers who were shot. >> reporter: the shooting happened outside the ferguson police department during a protest just hours after ferguson's police chief resigned after a scathing report from the justice department in the wake of the michael brown shooting last august. the suspect's friend visited him jail and said he was very apology -- apologetic about what happened. >> he was not trying to create chaos in the community. i was very disappointed and i know he's disappointed and regrets his decision. >> reporter: police found a gun

at his home. turmoil in the town of ferguson is spilling over to local businesses some of which claim revenue is down 80%. >> i have customers call me personally every day. are you guys open, are you all right. is it safe to come here. >> reporter: both officers are out of the hospital now and expected to make full recoveries. in the newsroom, noelle walker, ktvu news. eric holder sent out a message about the arrest. he said, this sends a clear message that violence toward police officers will not be tolerated. officer henry solis is a person of interest in the shooting and killing of a 23- year-old man last friday in pomona. the 27-year-old rookie officer failed to report to work the next day and may have disappeared knowing that investigators wanted to question him.

his 2013 volkswagen jetta was found three to four blocks from the scene. police have not said yet why they think solis was implicated. he was off duty at the time. police are looking for anyone who may have seen a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a 26-year- old man. the accident happened at the stone valley road off ramp of the northbound interstate 680. the motorcyclists apparently lost control on the off ramp and then slammed into a tree. the name of the man has not been released but he is said to be from san ramon. a light rail station is closing for good as of tomorrow the vta plans to demolish the evelin station to allow for the project. it's part of better service for caltrain and transportation for levi's stadium. vta officials say the evelin station has had the second lowest ridership in the system.

the national park service sent out a tweet highlights a litter problem at the recreation area. according to the dgnra this picture was taken yesterday at the great meadow in fort mason. apparently a lot of people forgot to pick up after themselves. officials have stepped up patrols and added a lot of trash cans but litter is still a problem on a regular basis at the park. this week, police are looking to lower speed limits for cyclists at a pretty popular trail christien kafton is live at the sausalito path way. that pathway just may be a victim of its popularity. >> reporter: it's a really popular trail. about 3,000 people use this path on the summer days when it's really packed and really has a lot of people traveling on it. about 2/3 of those people have been on bicycles. there's been a lot of incidents

between pedestrians and cyclists. now they're looking to bring down the speed limit on this path. the path gets a lot of use, pedestrians say they've had their fair shares of close calls. >> you're walking down the path and the bike rider is right on back on you and you have to move really fast. >> those triangles seem to be in the right place where they should be. >> reporter: right now the speed limit for bicycles is 15 miles per hour. on tuesday the county will begin a plan to bring that down to 10-miles-per-hour for a half mile stretch near the mill valley neighborhood. >> i think people need to slow down a little bit. >> the bikers come speeding by on their you know, the cyclists that are coming fast. so it's definitely worth it. it's going to prevent some

a wealthy and excentric suspect may have implicated himself in a decade's old case in the finale of a series. his attorney says he won't fight extradition to los angeles in charges that he killed susan burman. burman was about to be questioned on the disappearance of durst' wife who has never been found. in a final episode contained what may be a confession from durst talking to himself without realizing his microphone was on. former 49ers defensive end ray mcdonald is claiming to file a lawsuit against a woman

who accused him of sexual assault. mcdonald's attorney says because the santa clara district's attorney office has not announced that it won't file charges, mcdonald has not been able to continue his athletic career. earlier this month, prosecutors said the case is still under investigation in december a woman told police that she was possibly sexually assaulted by mcdonald at his home in san jose. the 49ers quickly released mcdonald. ballet san jose has raised more than enough money to keep dancing. the group had a self-imposed friday deadline to raise more than a half million dollars. it beat that mark by $90,000 with the help of the san jose arts commission which gave the group a $105,000 grant. ballet managers say past mismanagement led to the funding problems. with a steadily improving economy in the bay area the job market that has gained steam.

new at 10:00, san jose police are asking for help in the case of a missing man. family members say he wandered away and has not been seen since. authorities released the name of a man killed yesterday in a freeway accident near the alta mont pass. the crash involved as many as 14 vehicles. it happened about 4:00 p.m. near north flynn road.

the highway patrol says the accident was trilogiered by a pickup truck driver that didn't -- triggered by a pickup truck driver that did not stop in time to avoid hitting a vehicle. at least one driver did stop and cooperate with authorities. fields was pronounced dead at the scene. highway patrol is asking anyone with any information about the accident to give them a call. tomorrow will mark 10 years since a judge sentenced scott peterson to death after he was convicted of killing his wife lacey and their unborn child conner. in january of 2003, as the search continued for his wife, scott peterson sat down with then ktvu reporter ted rollings and talked about his wife's disappearance. he was adamant he had nothing to do with his pregnant wife's disappearance. at one point he was asked about the nursery, he and lacey had

a major drop off in temperatures today. while we have been talking about very dry conditions, the snow continues to pile up in the north and east and in boston. record breaking snow for the season over 108-inches. that's breaking the seasonal snowfall record in boston as you can see here. that snowfall has been tapering off over the past few hours in this part of the country. we will fly back toward the

good evening everyone welcome to this late sunday night edition of sports wrap. we knew before this selection sunday that the bay area would not have a men's represented this year in the ncaa basketball tournament. two teams will though be in postseason play. stanford is a two seed in the nit and will host a game on tuesday night. the cardinal won one game in the pac10 tournament in that last second shot to beat washington. the cardinal was then eliminated by utah. stanford will host uc david a seventh seed in the california state quadrant. stanford takes a 14-2 record into an 8:00 start. and st. mary's brings a record of 21-9 into it game. a 6:00 6:00 start wednesday at home. cal state turned down an invitation to be in the cbi tournament. we already know stanford is in tomorrow we'll find out it's
