buoy, 68 on saturday. 50s on the temps. draw your attention to san francisco's 57 here. because over the weekend, if you live in san francisco, saturday was 57. that was the low. that ties the warmest low ever recorded going back to 1878. sunday morning was 58. that was a record. the normal record is -- the normal low is 49. you are running 8, 9 degrees above where you should. there will be a few breaks to the south. coming up from the west- southwest means this is a warm system. it also means it will be muggy, humid. any sunbreaks and you will feel it. to the north there could be light rain to the south. a little bit of sun. 60s and 70s. all right. you got busy all of a sudden, fast. still 6le 6 -- 680? >> all lanes have opened on 680 south. however, it was such a big crash that it will take a while for these lanes to get better.

let's take a look at 680 live now. southbound as you head -- to the danville area out of walnut creek. you can see even though they've opened up all of the lanes. the traffic is slow heading south out of the walnut creek area. this is mixing in with the concord to walnut creek commute and we have a lot of trouble. let's put it on the map. all lanes are open now. southbound 680 as you drive down to el pin -- el pintat 0. 580 will be slow. 608 south is slow. as we move over to the san mateo bridge, the traffic here is going to be moderately heavy. i want to mention that southbound 280 in san francisco south there is a new crash at southbound 280 westborough. the traffic will be slow as you head to daly city. let's go to live pictures. the bay bridge is backed up for a 15, 20-minute delay at the

toll. back to the desk. we have been following developing news all morning in vallejo where police say two young men were targeted in a deadly overnight shooting. ktvu fox 2 reporter alex savidge is there on the scene and talking about police. they were on another call nearby when they heard the shots. >> reporter: both men were in their 20s. they were clearly targeted here. they were sitting inside of a silver pontiac that was parked on a street corner and that's when police say someone came up and opened fire right into that car. you can see the damage that was done. at least a dozen shots fired. likely more fired through the front windshield of the car. officers showed a short time later and found the two men inside. both with gunshot wounds. both of them were taken to the hospital. that's where one man died. the second victim, though, remains in critical condition. the shooting happened around 12:30 in the morning at the intersection of napa and

kentucky streets. police officers involved in an unrelated traffic stop nearby on sonoma boulevard heard the gunfire. officers immediately started searching for victims nearby and that's when a few minutes later, they found this parked car with the two wounded men inside. police talked with neighbors and gathered physical evidence out here but investigators tell me they don't have a whole lot to go on at this point. they aren't sure exactly what led up to the shooting or why these two young men may have been targeted earlier in morning. but police definitely say this was not a random shooting. detectives now working to make arrests in this case and, pam, they are trying to solve what was vallejo's north homicide of the year so far. >> all right. thank you, alex for the update. 7:05. the investigation into a deadly shooting involving four police officers are in napa continues this morning. james richard jimenez was shot on friday as police officers prepared to serve a search warrant for drugs at his home.

police say he the was shot when he tried -- police say he was shot when he tried to escape while reportedly reaching for a gun. the four officers have been placed on leave. both the napa county sheriff's department and the napa police internal affairs unit are investigating. a car that belongs to a rookie los angeles police officer who what wanted for question -- who is wanted for questioning has been found. the vehicle was found yesterday in a suburb east of los angeles. it was close to where 23-year- old rodriquez was gunned down early friday. police say the two got into a fist fight before the shooting. he failed to report to work the next day. he was off duty at the time of the fight. four veteran police officers are linked to racist

and homophobic texts. they are linked to a sergeant recently linked to corruption trials. over the weekend, police chief greg suhr said he wants to terminate those positions. former 49er ray mcdonald filing a lawsuit later today against the woman accusing him of sexual assault. he claims his career has been stalled because of those legal problems. janine de la vega joining us live. you are in san jose, so what does ray mcdonald want? >> reporter: well, dave, he wants his name cleared. his attorney is going to file a lawsuit today against the woman who mcdonald said is lying and is tarnishing his -- his reputation. his attorney says his career is stalled because of this sexual assault allegation hanging over his head. as we reported in dietz, a woman told police -- december,

a woman told police she went out drinking with him and claims he had sex with her but doesn't remember consenting because she said she hit her head before the alleged assault happened. in a text woman to the woman, he wrote, expletive just happened. just happened and later on, wrote, i don't understand. you stayed with me for another day. i felt like we had a connection and there's video evidence showing the two together around his house but because mcdonald was arrested for domestic violence against fiancee earlier in the season and this new allegation surfaced, the 49ers released him. the d.a. has not decided about charges against this woman. but mcdonald's attorney said they cannot wait any longer. that's why they decided to take

this legal action. dave? >> all right, janine de la vega thank you. talk to you later. 7:08. well, vta riders if you use evelyn station in mountain view, you will have to find a new stop this morning. starting today, that vta station is officially shut down. valley transit authority plans to tear down the station. they will make way for a second set of tracks. and when it's complete, the double track project expected to provide better service to caltrain and also to major events at levi stadium. it's expected to boost service to the milpitas b.a.r.t. service once the b.a.r.t. extension is finished. the vta says the evelyn station has the second lowest ridership in the entire system. there's new reports this morning indicating more cracks have been found in steel rods on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. the chronicle reports the cracks were found at the top and the bottom of a rod that

secures the base of the main tower. the paper says cracks like that can get worse over time and lead to total failure during a big earthquake. but money is an issue. almost all of the money set aside for testing rods this year is gone. caltrans officials are now looking for ways to cut costs elsewhere to pay for additional testing. 7:10. a grisly discovery and it's connected to a murder in albany. >> frightening. >> coming up in 20 minute, the -- 20 minutes, the evidence found miles away from the body and why a woman thinks the police missed an opportunity to get a jump on the investigation. but first, a wealthy and eccentric man is in jail. what he did that implicated him in several murders. have a big problem on the

a crash and also a car that burst into flames. it looks like the people who are in the caldecott stuck behind us are getting out of their cars and walking out of the tunnel, perhaps running. they've issued a sig-alert. this is eastbound. this is also affecting westbound. this is a mess on highway 24. you need to avoid this area. do not leave highway 24 and get up into orinda. you have to go another way or perhaps call ahead and tell them you are not coming because traffic is really terrible. we'll tell you more about this minutes away in the traffician -- traffic update. eccentric real estate air robert durst expected in court later today. he's been arrested in the murder of journalist sue man berman 15 years ago -- susan berman 15 years ago. she was found shot to death just as she was about to be questioned about the

disappearance of durst's wife in 1982. his wife's body has never been found. the arrest comes just as durst was featured in an hbo documentary called "the jinx." final episode aired last night with durst saying off camera "what did i do? killed them all, of course." >> i'm not surprised because i've always felt like he was responsible for these three deaths. but to hear him actually say it out loud was shock. >> back in we admitted to killing and dismembering a neighbor but he claims this was self-defense and he was acquitted. there are reports of republicans about to announce a congressional investigation into hillary clinton. she's been criticized a lot over her use of personal e-mail for government work.

she deleted 30,000 messages saying they were person a she said she used her own account as a matter of convenience. in the meantime, the washington post is reporting jeb bush used his private e-mail account to discuss security and military matters while he was governor of florida. now, his aides are saying none of the e-mails involved sensitive or classified information. jeb bush is considering running for president. first lady michelle obama opening up about what she misses most about life before living in the white house. the television interview is set to air today on the ellen ellen degeneres show. she talks about the children, their marriage and she says she can't wait to get in a car, roll the window down and let the air hit her fate. she will spend that first year just hanging out the window. mason. take a look at this photo. this was tweeted out from the golden gate national recreational area. officials say it was taken saturday at the great meadow. take a look at the trash on the ground. park managers have stepped up patrols and added larger bins but the litter is still a regular problem at the park. especially on days when the weather is nice. >> yes. go enjoy the day but take your trash with you. 7:17. sal, the caldecott tunnel -- >> this is really serious. there is a fire inside one of the boars of the caldecott. the chp says they are evacuating people inside the tunnel. westbound traffic is getting a good look at this. as you might imagine, a lot of emergency personnel is getting to the scene. chp has tweeted a picture and basically it looks like eastbound 24 is closed trying

to get from oakland to orinda. don't use it. the traffic is backing up, heading out. don't use eastbound 24 getting to orinda. we have a big backup there. this is because of a car fire and a crash inside the caldecott tunnel. give yourself extra time. we want to go to southbound 680. this is a problem in danville. this has backed up into concord. mixing in with that normal slow traffic. look at that. barely moving. this is a terrible commute. i also want to mention the traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for its normal delay of about 20 minutes. again, let me just say it again, eastbound 24, do not go to the caldecott tunnel going to orinda. it's closed because of a car fire and a crash inside the tunnel. people are evacuating their vehicles and chp is taking them out of the tunnel. the fire department are responding to the scene.

we do want to let you know we're staying on top of this news. we'll have more of it coming up. let's go to steve in the weather center. >> i would think even westbound that will having a inpath -- have an impact. >> absolutely. you can see snow coming out of the tunnel and you are wondering what's going on. a lot of cloud cover over us. maybe light rain to the north. it's tough to get excited about this. in case you missed it on the weekend, incredibly warm, not only records for the day but records all time for march. san jose was 89. that broke the old march record of 88 set back in 1914. gilroy, hit 90 degrees. unbelievable record highs. 50s on the temps. san francisco -- it's 58. record low, high minimum temperatures were set in the weekend in san francisco. i will show you those in a second. on saturday, the loet was 57. that tied 57. going back to 1878.

sunday's low in san francisco was a balmy 58. the old record is 56 in 1993. normal is 49. sitting at 58. sea surface temperatures upper 50s to near 60. the cloud cover over us. we had the record smashing heat. no matter it's so mild to warm. the cloud cover will give us a cooldown. a lot of clouds and nothing else. if there's any rain, it would be well to the north. sonoma county north, but even that will be light. some sunbreaks to the south. kind of muggy, humid, 60s and 70s on the temps. a lot of upper 60s in the cloud cover. if you get some sunbreaks. warmer. we should be about 62 to 68 on these temps. even though the cloud cover is here and we're cooling off. these are above average temps. they are 25 degrees average on saturday. i credibly warm here. but it will -- incredely warm here. it will cool down.

eastbound 24, one of the caldecott tunnels, there is a car crash inside the tunnel. chp tweeted the photo. it doesn't look good. a and now smoke is coming out of both sides of the tunnel. this is the countercommute direction for most folks, eastbound 24. westbound 24 is slowing down past the scene because you can clearly see what's going on and 24 is backed up into orinda. this is going to have an effect on both sides of 24 approaching the tunnel. as you might imagine, people have left their cars inside and are walking out because of the dangerous situation. stay with us. we'll have more on this coming

sfo is 59 degrees. normal lows for this time of year are 42, 49. we're above on all accounts. and so far, san francisco has had record high minimum temps on saturday the low was 57. and normal, average this time of year is 49. today is 58. that's three days in a row of record high minimum temps. any rain to the north, it's all tropical. temperatures will be very mild, including up in tahoe which was 65 yesterday for a record high. the cloud cover should take the edge off some of these temps. but mostly cloudy. light rain to the north. not muchles anywhere else -- not much anywhere else. the humidity factor is very high. a lot of 70s. more 60s coast and also to the north. all right, sal. take it away, sir. >> yes. we do have a lot of slow traffic out there because of a

fire in the caldecott tunnel. eastbound 24 in the right -- what they call bore number 1. this is a picture of the fire burning. they got people out of the cars stuck in the tunnel behind this car and got they out. eastbound 24 in the right bore of the caldecott tunnel. this does not affect westbound commuters. people were slowing in the area. i want to show you. eastbound 4 is backed up before highway 13. westbound traffic will be slowing from orinda the it's not backed up into la fayette which is good. another 680 problem is 680. look at the slow traffic here. this is because of an earlier seven-car pileup. look at that slow traffic, it's backing traffic up into concord. it's kind of meshing with the morning commute. this is a terrible commute. in case you had not heard, you will need extra time on this 680 commute heading down to san ramon. at the bay bridge toll plaza, it is backed you for a typical

day of 20, 25 minutes getting into san francisco. in case you are wondering about b.a.r.t., it's an alternate. they are not reporting any major prob-- problems. a pretty good alternate for you if you want to leave the car at home. back to the desk. request just hours to spare a woman in richmond discovered murder evidence in her garbage can on trash day. it's connected to the death of a 37-year-old dental student found shot to death in her albany apartment. katie utehs is here in the studio now. tell us about the evidence police almost missed, katie, and why they are now asking for help. >> reporter: well, at first, a purse and bloody clothes were considered a low priority property crime, this is, until the body of this woman was discovered hours later. now, a week ago today, carr's cousin discovered the woman shot and killed in her albany apartment after she missed dental school classes. we now know hours earlier on that same day, a richmond woman

made a horrifying discovery in her trash can. she found a coach purse belonging to carr with a wallet and i.d. inside. also in the can, a bag of bloody clothes. at that time, the homeowner elizabeth duke called albany and richmond police. she wonders if the person who ditched the evidence knew she uses a wheelchair and is less likely to look into the can. >> i think someone knew a lot. they knew my situation. they might have known about the garbage situation. as it greed, it -- progressed, it got more and more scary. >> reporter: the items came evidence in her murder case four hours later. it's possible that the bloody clothing belonged to carr's killer since she was found fully clothed. investigators say carr attended the prayer service the afternoon of her death and planned to spend sunday evening studying at home. she was found shot once in the head in her apartment.

police are asking people to come forward with any additional leads or information as they made no arrests so far in the case. carr's colleagues will hold a vigil in her memory tonight. it starts at 5:00 p.m. in saunders court and is open to students, faculty and staff. >> thank you. 7:35. the 17-year-old boy attacked by twoe men outside of westfield valley mall in san jose, he's still in serious condition. this happened last week when the teen was leaving the mall with two of his friends. police say two men approached him, asked if they were in a gang, despite them saying, no, the men still beat the 17-year- old boy. police say the two men had been following those teens around the mall earlier in the evening. investigators are now checking surveillance video looking for clues. a missouri man is in custody. he's charged with shooting those two police officers in ferguson, missouri. police say they recovered a handgun from the home of jeffrey williams that matches

the shell casings at the scene. however, the suspect claims he was not aiming at police. fox news correspondent steve harrigan has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: angry protests continue in the streets of ferguson, this after the arrest of jeffrey williams. 20-year-old is facing charges of first-degray assault -- first-degree assault after two police officers were shot in ferguson, missouri last week. >> there was a weapon recovered which had been tied to the shell casings recovered there, weapon recovered from him. he's acknowledged his participation in firing the shots. >> reporter: in response to the arrest, eric holder released a statement that reads in part, this arrest sends a clear message that acts of violence against our law enforcement personnel will never be tolerated. bishop robinson who spoke to the suspect after the arrest said williams told him he was

not aiming toward police. >> he was not trying to create disruption in the community. that was not his focus. he said that a protest was trying to -- protester was trying to rob him. >> reporter: st. louis's prosecuting attorney says he does not know if he believes his story. as the investigation continue, they want to hear from anyone who might have more information. >> we cannot do this by ourselves. we have to have the ability to engage the public to where we can work together or make it happen police informed the officers about the arrest and both have left the hospital and are at home recovering with their families. two los angeles police officers are recovering after being hurt by gunfire last night. the plain clothes officers were driving in south central los angeles when someone started shooting. the officer shot back. the s.w.a.t. team was called in. the two officers had only minor injuries and were treated at

the scene. but they now believe that they were targeted. police detained several people. they are still looking for two others. 7:38. today marks ten years since a judge sentenced scott peterson to death for killing his wife and their unborn baby. in january of 2003, peterson sat down with ted rolands, a reporter, and talked about his wife's disappearance. he was adamant he had nothing to do with it. at one point he was asked about the nursery that he and his wife laci preened for their son -- prepared for their son connor. >> the door is closed. i can't -- i can't go in the door. >> you worked on it. what sort of preparation did you do? >> the furniture there is there. it's painted. it's ready. little clothes and all of those wonderful things we have there.

>> the bodies of laci and connor were found on the shoreline of the san francisco bay in richmond. scott peterson is still in jail in san quentin. his case is on automatic appeal to the state supreme court. an investigation is underway in santa rosa after police say one man stabbed another man in the head. now, it happened just before 6:00 last night at youth community park hon fulton road across the street from piner high school. witnesses say the incident started when the men tried to break up a feet between two women. the fight escalated and it ended with the stabbing. witnesses say the attacker ran away. if you have he in information -- if you have any information, call police. a local world war ii veteran is leaving today to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of the battle of iwo jima. they lined up at san francisco for marine private first class

it looks like the fire is out in the caldecott tunnel. there was a car fire there. people were evacuated. it seems like some of those people are being let back in to get their cars. oakland fire did get into the tunnel. westbound 24 backed up from orinda. this is not causing as big of a backup as i thought it would westbound. but it's still slow. we'll give you an update on this and all of the rest of the commute. we have a lot of the of slow traffic in the east bay. we'll have that coming up in a minutes. russian president vladimir putin has resurfaced after ten days out of public view. the 62-year-old went before reporters in st. petersburg today for a meeting with the president of kurzic stan. observers say there's nothing that indicates any obvious health problem but he did make a surprise revelation during a television documentary that aired last night marking one year since russia's take over of crimea. he considered putting the nuclear forces on alert over

fears of intervention by the west. he also reportedly claimed that he personally delivered orders to the russian military. more nuclear negotiations are underway between the u.s. and iran. right now, secretary of state, john kerry, is in switzerland meeting with iran's prime minister. they are two weeks from a deadline for a deal to stop iran from producing nuclear weapons. officials say the most they expect is an announcement that there's been enough progress to justify more talks. one diplomat says that is because new differences came up during the last round of negotiations. 7:46. the elaborate tomb in iraq of saddam hussein today is just a pile of rubble. that tomb was destroyed during fighting near hussein's home town of tikrit. all that's left are some of the stone support you can lulls. his body was -- columns. his body was placed there eight

eastbound 24 heading out to orinda from oakland. the very right-hand bore of the caldecott tunnel was closed for a time and they are still trying to get these cars out of there. i want to show you a backup from our oakland camera, our emmyville camera, i should say, eastbound 24 is like the old days when they only had one tunnel to work with. there is a backup trying to get into orinda out of oakland. westbound 24, both tunnels are open. this has not affected the 24 commute westbound as much as we thought it might. now that the fire is out, things are okay. i want to mutt it on the -- put it on the maps. 24 is westbound. that fire is out. some people have been evacuated from their cars. but it's pretty clear they will be on their way pretty soon. i want to mention that 580 is a mess through dublin and pleasanton. 680 is slow. san mateo bridge approach moderately heavy and then we have a look at the peninsula. 101 is kind of slow this morning. coming up past candlestick into san francisco. bay bridge toll plaza, that is backed up for about a 25, 30-

minute delay. it's kind of a normal day at the toll plaza. 8:02. back to the desk. vallejo police are investigating a deadly overnight shooting. it happened at about 12:30 this morning on kentucky street near napa street. police say they were on another call when they heard gunshots. they rushed to the scene and found two young men shot. they were inside the car. taken to nearby hospitals. one of them died. the other is in critical condition. information with information about the shooting is being urged to call the vallejo police department. the investigation into a deadly shooting involving four police officers in napa continues this morning. investigators say 41-year-old james richard jimenez was hot on friday as -- was shot on friday as police officers prepared to serve a search warrant at his home for drugs. police say he was shot when he tried to escape from police on a motorcycle while reportedly reaching a for gun. the four officers involved in the case have been placed on leave. both the napa county sheriff's department and the napa police

internal affairs unit are investigating. 8:03. a car that belongs to a rookie los angeles police officer wanted for question in a deadly shooting has been found. police say the volkswagen jetta belongs to 27-year-old officer henry salas. it was found yesterday in a suburb east of l.a. it was close to where 23-year- old rodriquez was gunned down early friday. now, police say salas and rodriquez got into a fist fight before the shooting. salas did not report to work the next day. he was off duty at the time of the dwight. four san francisco police officers are in danger of losing their jobs because they are linked to racist and homophobic text sergeants. this have involves the former police officer recently ccketted on country charge -- convicted on corruption charges. the officers involved have been reassigned to jobs that don't directly deal with the public

while the text messages are investigated. over the weekend, greg suhr also said he wants to terminate their positions. 8:04. well, determined to clear his name, ray mcdonald will file a lawsuit today against a woman who accused him of sexual assault. mcdonald claims he has not picked up by another nfl team because of his legal problems. janine de la vega joining us live now from san jose and you have a copy of the criminal complaint. what does it say? >> reporter: yeah, it is right here and ray mcdonald's attorney plans to file it this morning against the woman who he says has defamed mcdonald and prevented him from signing with a new team. mcdonald's attorney is saying that his client's athletic career has stalled because a sexual assault accusation is hanging oeferl his head. a bomb told police she went out drinking and met up with mcdonald. she claims mcdonald had sex with her at his home but she

doesn't remember consenting because she hit her head before the alleged assaults happened. in the lawsuit, mcdonald is claiming the sex is consen um and even says they -- consensual and even says they hung out and went to the store together the next day. analysts say this may make it difficult for the prosecutor to prosecute especially since there's video evidence showing the two around their house. as soon as the investigation surfaced, the 49ers released mcdonald. the d.a.'s office has not bedecided to file charges. and his aattorney says no nfl team will sign him. he says what's important to him is she's vindicated and he would -- he's vindicated and would like to clear his name. >> thank you. 8:06. well, if you are a vta rider and you use the evelyn station, you have to find a new stop. as of today, that vta station is officially shut down.

valley transportation authority plans to tear down the station. they will make way for a second set of tracks between the mountain view transit center and the wiseman station. when it's finished, the double- track project is expected to give better service to cal crane and to those major events at leash vie stadium. it's also expected -- levi stadium. it's also expected to boost service once the b.a.r.t. station is finished. the evlicks station has the -- evelyn station has the lowest ridership. the chronicle reports cracks were found in the rods on the new span of the bay bridge. money is an issue. nearly all of the money set aside for testing rods this year is gone. caltrans officials are now looking to cut costs elsewhere to try to fund additional

that week old investigation of the death of a 37-year-old dental student in albany. katie utehs live in the studio. more about the evidence police almost missed and why they are asking for help. >> a richmond homeowner, miles from the crime scene discovered a purse and bloody clothes in her trash can on garbage day. the purse belonged to this woman, 37-year-old randihi r carr. a week ago, her cousin discovered her shot and dead in her apartment. we now know hours early on that same day, a richmond woman made a horrifying discovery in trash can along panama street. she found a coach purse belonging to carr with a wallet and i.d. inside. also in that can, bloody clothes. >> the blood was, you know, froit -- frightening. >> i told both police

departments there were bloody clothes but they did not connect the dots, i guess. >> four hours later, the items became evidence in her murder case. it's possible the bloody clothing belongs to carr's killer since she was fund fully clothed. investigators say she attended a prayer service the afternoon of her death and planned spend sunday evening. she was shot once in the head along canes avenue. police are asking the public to come forward with any additional leads as they made no arrests so far. carr's colleagues at the dental school first reported her missing, and the school is holding a vigil in saunders court in her honor tonight. 8:34. meantime a man in missouri is defending himself this morning against charges he shot two police officers in ferguson, missouri last week. 20-year-old jeffrey williams is charged with first degree assault. those two police officers were shot and wounded last thursday

detained for questioning. so far no arrests have been made. san jose police have released a photo of a missing man in hones that the public -- hopes that the public will be able to find him. this is the 69-year-old. he's 5'4", 115 pound. police say he last seen at the capital flea market. family members say he wondered and way and has not been seen hins. he has short-term memory loss but is able to communicate and say his name. anyone with information is asked to call san jose police department. today marks ten years since a judge sentenced scott peterson to death for killing his wife and unborn baby. it was in january of 2003 as the search continued for his wife. scott peterson tat down with reporter ted rolands and talked about laci's disappearance. he was adamant he had nothing to do with it and then he asked about the nursery he and his
