-- a bunch of incidents. san mateo bridge, westbound 92. busy traffic and the backup is from jackson street as you drive over to the peninsula, it's not bad. when you get over to highway 101, it's a little bit busy on 101 at 92. there are no major problems there. nearby 880 southbound is very slow from 238 all the way down into fremont and northbound traffic as you approach a problem near marina boulevard. there's slow traffic getting into oakland. you might want to opt for 580. it's slow. 680 is slow. 680 is slow from concord to walnut creek. i want to talk about the south bay where 101, 280 and 85 are a little slow but again we're not seeing any major incidents. this is the slow traffic you are used to. bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for 15, 20-minute delay at the toll plaza. then it's okay on the bridge into san francisco. it's 7:03. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you, sal. san francisco police are

investigating the discovery of a marijuana grow house in the bayview neighborhood. ktvu fox 2's tara moriarty has been on the scene since 5:00 this morning. we understand this elaborate operation was discovered after an early-morning fire. >> reporter: that's right. firefighters truly did stumble upon this operation, upon this marijuana grow house. there were some wires and a neighbor neighbor walking by was able to grab the garden hose. but this window was not closed. crews found the curtains were nailed in place. behind that plastic sheeting. they tore open the plastic and found hundreds of marijuana plants. two people who saw the sparks they were aible to get the people who live downstairs out safely around midnight. police are still waiting on a

warrant. a truck is here. authorities are getting ready to grab the marijuana plants inside. we're in the bayview district near third street. tenants had been bypassing the meter jerry rigging hour. >> sometimes the light create so much heat that the plants catch on fire. that's the danger, that the house will catch on fire. these houses are pretty close to each other. not only that cause but the adjoining houses. >> reporter: luckily, no one was hurt. people tell us that the family in the downstairs unit including a pregnant woman are not connected to the operation. once this warrant is secured, we're told in about half an hour, police will move the plant os the -- plants out. plifrt -- police told us there were 300 plans. but first responders thought

maybe 800. back to you. >> thank you. 7:05. three children and two adults are suffering from injuries they they suffer in a hit and hun. police say a speeding car slammed into the victim's car, then spread -- fled the scene. emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to get them out. there's no word on the severity of their conditions and the search for the driver conditions. a man accused of pulling out a gun at a petaluma bar died after a high-speed chase. the chase ended at bodega bay after a man's car slammed into a tree on highway 1. earlier in the night, the man pulled out a gun at the washo bar. the bartender told the press democrat that the man became angry after seeing another man touching her hand. after the man was told to leave

the car, sheriff's deputy followed the car that reached speeds at 100 miles an hour. the sudden death of a high school student has left fellow students grieving and mourning. the teen was an athlete. it appears he collapsed on campus. janine de la vega is joining us from san jose. you have new information you just received from the school district. >> reporter: san jose unified school district spokesperson just confirmed that the student collapsed here on campus at leland high school yesterday afternoon. classes here are about to start in the next hour. we haven't gotten a chance to speak to any students but online, they are expressing their grief and they are saying this is reminding them not to take anything for granted. last night they identified the student as tristan nguyen. school officials say he collapsed yesterday during

track track tis. a coach performed cpr. he was taken to the hospital. he died there. school officials were with his family. online students are using the hashtag riptristan when talking about the teen. grief counselors will be on campus to help students cope with his death. leland high school tweeted out, unfortunately, today, we lost a beloved charger. our thoughts go out to tristan nguyen and his family. he will be dearly missed. rest in mice -- rest in peace. no doubt this will be a difficult day for them. >> janine de la vega. thank you. the san francisco public defender's office are expected to talk about their response to racist and homophobic texts allegedly exchained by san francisco police officers. the messages were sent in 2011

and 2012. they were reportedly targeting african-americans, gays fill low pea gays, filipinos. and latinos. the four have been reassigned as this investigation continues. >> these comments were private comments from one private phone to another and intended for an audience of one person. the notion of this case is that we no longer have privacy. >> now, the officer's lawyer said the messages were taken out of context. the public defender said he's identified 100 cases that need to be reviewed. ed lee released a statement. he said, the content of these text messages displayed a bias that's incompatible with the value s of city.

a police department memo says police will start to run tests of officers wearing cameras by september. it will start with 12 officers using the cameras. it hopes to roll them out the following year. san francisco police have public approval to use the drone but still need to run more tests to satisfy federal regulations. it probably won't be in full operation until 2017. a police officer's group wants to prevent lawmakers from limb iing the use of -- limiting the use of license plate breaders. a letter was sent to congress. they say electronic readers are key tools in fighting crime. they are being used in several bay area cities right now. critics have raised concerns about privacy and how long the data is stored. 7:10. the napa valley community, pretty stunned this morning after a deadly dispute between a vintner and investigator. mum -- coming up, we're

at 11:00. the family established a gofundme page to help pay expenses all of the leftover funds will help victims of violent crimes. oakland police arrested two more people in connection with the death of a mother of three hit by stray bullets. both are 29 years old. police say they were both involved in a gun battle that killed pierce last week. a 19-year-old man identified as anthony sims has been already with murder. police are still looking for suspects. a man with a 72-page criminal history, he's due in court today in sonoma county accused of threatening police officers. 47-year-old raymond zalinski was arrested in downtown sebastopol friday night. police were called to a restaurant after people reported that he was making lewd gestures at young children. police say he was under the

influence of alcohol and repeatedly threatenped the police officers and their -- threatened the police officers and their families saying he would shoot one and chop up all of your children. police say he's a transient of the he's been arrested in -- transsent. he's been arrested in 16 states. a man police say who was panhandle inside a 7-eleven store is accused of attacking a store employee with a cup of hot coffee. police say the clerk asked the man to stop panhandling. that's when he punched the clerk twice and threw the coffee in his face. the clerk did suffer minor burns. a storage facility in napa that was damaged in last summer's big break is still off limb is. that's prompting some people to make a desperate plea for help. 200 people say they've not been allowed inside the condemned storage facility to get their belongings. the walls of the building are

today is better. the traffic as you approach westbound 24 is slow. this is normal slow. as you drive through la fayette, it's slowing down u when you get to the other side of the tunnel, you will slow down. if you are going as far as the bay bridge, you will see slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza, it's backed up for about a sa-minute delay. but not more than that which is good once you get on the bridge, it looks good. i want to show you a problem area in the bay area commute right now. that would be 880 through hayward union city and heading down to hayward. this whole area that i'm drawing a circle around has been very slow. we've had a number of accidents. a haud accident here and there -- hit-and-run accident here and there. but just a combination of crashes. if this is your commute, you need to leave the house earlier. 580 is getting better through livermore. 680cy still slow as you -- 680 is still very as you head down to the sunol grade. a decent forecast in my opinion.

west-southwest fairfield. a due west from sfo. hayward to livermore and north beach northwest at 20 miles an hour. that's brought some of the fog in here even though the higher clouds are clearing out. there will be a few clouds breaking through. mostly sunny. maybe partly partly sunny at times. clouds and sun. nice to mild. not as humid as yesterday. maybe a little bit in the morning. but more of a westerly breeze. 60s and 70s on your temps and most of these are very close. a little cooler maybe by the coast due fact there get the -- da to the fact we get the -- due to the fact we get the west wind. a little bit more cloudiness for a while in the morning for the south bay. mid-70s. the humidity factor might hold on but wet better this -- but better this afternoon. these are still a little bit above average.

san francisco supervisor john ava loss will call for -- avalos will propose the voting age be 16. he also says since many teenagers work they pay taxes, they drive cars, they deserve to have a say in how the city is run. >> they would vote on the municipal elections. they wouldn't be able to vote for statewide offices or federal offices but i think you will see that people running for local office will want to make sure they consider the youth vote. >> he says by giving more young people the option to take part in elections they are more likely to develop into life- long voters. san francisco is the first major u.s. city to consider this kind of policy. 7:25. in oregon, if you are 18 or older and have a driver's

means 60s and 70s. all right, sal. usual slowdowns or has anything else popped up? >> we have one commute that's really ugly but the rest of the commutes are usual verydowns. let's start off with 280 in san jose. and you can see traffic is slow out of the downtown area, driving into the valley. you are also going to see a lot of slow traffic on 101 and 85. we can put it up on the map. northbound 85 is slow from 87 up to saratoga and 101 is sold out from yerba buena up to sunnyvale but it's actually okay in mountain view but the ugly award goes to northbound 17. we had an earlier accident at laurel and traffic coming over the hill from santa cruz is gonna set you back. if that's your commute, you need extra time today. we'll mention that 880 is no picnic if you are driving southbound from 238 down to fremont, it's slow and northbound is also very slow. nothing -- not one accident has caused this. it's just been a chain of

collisions. and 5le 80 is -- 508 is slow. you can see a live look here. that's moderate about a 15, 20- minute delay. 7:32. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. a business dispute involving a name valley winemaker is now the focus of a murder-suicide investigation. an invest -- an investors was kill and the winery owner is the suspected killer. alex savidge is there and has information on what could have led robert dahl to snap. >> reporter: i spoke a short time ago to a local writer who covers the wine industry in the area and he told me he's met the suspected shooter and he said this man was on the brink of losing his business and in all likelihood just snapped yesterday. according to a number of reports, robert call shot and killed his former investor before taking his own life. that drama played out yesterday

in the vineyard, south. according to a website, two men were looked into a dispute over a $1.2 million loan. the victim of yesterday's shooting had filed a lut against dahl accusing him of fraud for accepting the loan for a defunct wine company. dahl had been ordered by a young to repay the money which likely would have caused him his business. they met yesterday. it ended with violence. >> ta was supposed to be a -- that was supposed to be a discussion to settle things out of court. obviously it was settled out of court but not in the way that anybody really thought was gonna happen. for this to go to this stage

was just completely unforeseen by anybody. >> reporter: and the writer, you heard from there, lewis perdue, said he met dahl on several locations and said he was a charming man. but also the type of person -- he liked to have everything in his control. he moved here from the midwest. he had dreams of being a successful winery owner but that dream appeared to be crumbling around him with this legal dispute, this ongoing legal dispute. there was a lawyer involved in yesterday's meeting. he was involved on the phone yesterday when the meeting was taking place. he told the press democrat newspaper that the two men had left that meeting and had agreed to work out their differences and then not long after that, tori, that violent scene played out there in the middle of the winery yesterday. >> such a shock for so many people. at 7:35, napa police are investigating what they call a pair of suspicious deaths.

the manager of an apartment complex on river glen drive hadn't seen a man hand a woman living there for a while. so he called police to check on them. investigators found them dead inside an apartment. police say the man was 66 years old and the woman was 55. they also say the people may have been dead for several days by the time their bodies were found. it's a story people are still talking about this morning. a man was killed when his big rig slammed into an east bay restaurant then burst into flames. this happened yesterday morning in pittsburgh just before 8:30 on railroad avenue. witnesses say they heard the truck trying to slam on the brakes and downshift before hitting three cars and then smashing into a restaurant. police are checking that big rig out for signs of mechanical failure. witnesses say the driver was beeping his horn and flashing his lights. >> he tried to somehow go between us. so that -- you know, he was -- he did everything he could. it was like a hollywood yet.

it completely exploded. there was plumes of fire and then there was multiple explosions even after that. >> now, no one else was hurt. boy, the driver of the big rig's truck has not been identified yet. a father hurt in a big fire last week at his home in san francisco's mission district, he has now died. officials say 38-year-old mohammed shaibi died on saturday from injuries related to smoke smoke inhalation. his 13-year-old daughter is in critical condition. his wife and two sons are recovering. investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire at 4th and treat in san francisco. they haven't said yet if smoke detectors were working in the home. it's 7:37. investigators in sonoma county are looking for two men who attacked and robbed a man as he walked on a popular trail. a woman riding her bike on the joe ridada trail in santa rosa called 911 around 7:30 saturday

what does it mean for the team moving forward but it's a talker this morning. i have a copy of the san francisco chronicle sporting green edition where the headline reads won and one, borland walks away. patrick willis announced his retirement last week because of a neck and foot injury but borland said he was ending his career because of concerns over head trauma. he said, from what i've researched and experienced, i don't think it's worth the risk. he reportedly had two diagnosed growing up, once when he was playing soccer in the 8th grade. another one while playing at a sophomore in high school. he also said he has no intention of returning to football. this was about miss long-term health, citing health problems, even deaths of other players. he says he will concentrate on going back to school to study

sports management. what does this mean for other players? >> i have five sons. all varying in ages from 29 down to twins that are 15. they have played football. the twins have not played football as of yet because actually a head injury is a concern. i -- you know, i think it's unfortunate he's retiring but i understand. >> in the meantime, 49ers' gm trent baalke released a statement saying in part, while it's unexpected we certainly respect chris's decision. from speaking with chris, it was evident he put a great deal of thought in the decision. borland also says the retirement of patrick willis had nothing to do with his decision. he's the first out of the four to announce his retirement based on health concerns. certainly a talker. >> back to you.

fast food workers plan to call a demonstration to call attention to their working conditions. they say they are under pressure to work fastert. that's leading to more injuries. at least 28 safety complaints have been filed after workers were burned at mcdonald's restaurants around the country. workers claim some restaurants do not have first aid supplies when someone gets hurt.

and killed by a stray bullet as she tried to shield her children. the suspects are shell don mcdaniels and jerry harvin, both 29. police say they were involved in a gun battle that killed 30- year-old pierce last week. 19-year-old man identified as anthony sims has already been charged with murder. police are still looking for more suspects. contra costa prosecutors are now fighting to kick a sexually violent predator out of a walnut creek neighborhood. 71-year-old charles chrisman was convicted of a series of sexual assaults on boys under the age of 14 in el cerrito and san francisco about 25 years ago. earlier this month, contra costa county sheriff's deputies went door to door to let people in the neighborhood know chrisman had moved in. prosecutors say they are fighting to evict him because the neighborhood has an unusually high percentage of young boys. also the decision was made by a san francisco judge without any prior notice to the contra

-- westbound traffic is better. moderate traffic on the way into the brink -- bridge. 17 northbound is still very slow in the south bay. back to the desk. >> sal, thank you. a peaceful napa valley winery has turned into the scene of a deadly shooting. alex savidge is out there now and says the winery owner is the man investigators believe was responsible for the violence, now they want to know why it may have happened. alex? >> reporter: well, good morning to you. his business was on the verge of collapse because of an ongoing financial dispute with the business partner and according to a local writer, that in all likelihood was what prompted this murder-suicide yesterday. according to a number of reports, local vint never robert dahl shot and killed a former investor before taking his own life. the drama played out yesterday in the middle of dahl's vineyard, south of yountville.

according to the website, the two men were locked in a dispute over a $1.2 million loan. the victim of yesterday's shooting filed a lawsuit against dahl accusing him of accepting a loan for a defunct wine company. dahl had been ordered to repay the company which likely would have cost him his business. the two men met up yesterday to settle the dispute but it ended in violence. a local wine industry ride who met dahl on several low ocakes -- several occasions talked to me about his demeanor. >> he was very charming. he had the right demeanor but he had this quirk that if you said something that he didn't agree with, you got these little micro expressions. of not quite wage -- quite

rage. he liked to control the situation. >> reporter: and the writer also said dahl moved here from the midwest with dreams of becoming a successful winery owner. now according to the press democrat after dahl shot the man in the head in the middle of the vineyard, he led deputies on a pursuit and then eventually committed suicide inside his suv. this came out of nowhere for a lot of people who knew both of those men. the lawyer who was involved in yesterday's business meeting told the press democrat that the two men left that meeting promising to work out their differences and then, dave, not long after that there was gunfire in the vineyard. >> what a story. thank you. police are investigating what they call a pair of suspicious deaths. now, the manager of this apartment complex on river glen drive hadn't seen a man and woman living in that apartment there for a while so he called the police to check up on them.

investigators found their bodies inside. now, their names are into the being released as of yet. police say the man was 66. the woman, 55. police also say they may have been dead for several days. a man was killed when his big rig slammed into an east bay restaurant and then burst into flames. it happened before 8:30 yesterday morning on railroad avenue in pittsburg. witnesses would hear the truck driver trying to brake and downshift before the trick hit three cars, then crashed into the restaurant. police are checking whether the big rig had a mechanical failure. witnesses say the driver was beeping his horn and flashing his lights. >> he tried to somehow go between us. that -- he was -- he did everything he could. it was like a hollywood set. it completely exploded. there was plumes of fire and then there was multiple explosions even after that. >> no one else was hurt. the big rig driver has not been

officially identified but the investigation goes on. a father injured in a fire last week at his home in san francisco's mission district has now died. the officials say 38-year-old mohammed shabibi died from smoke inhalation. his wife and two sons are recovering. investigators are looking to the cause of the fire at 24th and treat. they haven't said if smoke detectors were working in the home. 8:36. a new plan is being considered which may change the way san jose emergency crews transport sick and injured people to hospitals. the plan calls for firefighters to take over ambulances services. the proposal was included in the budget message delivered by sim liccardo. he said he's frustrated over the shaky financial salt tis and slow 911 response times of the private ambulance service for the city. the city council is expected to

talk about the plan at its meeting next tuesday. now we're hearing from a hero, a contra costa county sheriff's deputy who ran onto a burning bus to help rescue dozens of teenagers and get them to safety. deputy anthony was driving to work saturday night on interstate 680 in walnut creek. he saw a tour bus on fire on the side of the freeway. he stopped. he helped get people o that bus and then ran back on to make sure everyone had made it out. >> didn't think about it much. i was concentrating on seeing through the choke to see if there is any -- smoke to see if there is any any children that needed to be taken off the bus. they were here for a sign language event. seven were taken to john muir medical senter to get checked out. they were released a couple of hours later. many people, but especially the 49er faithful from the front office to the fans are continuing to talk about the

sudden retirement of linebacker chris borland at the age of only 4. he said he's getting the game because of his concerns over head trauma and concussions. we're live in the east bay gathering reaction. i'm sure you are hearing a lot of opinions, brian. >> reporter: we sure are. many are in support of chris borland. you are some fans worried about the team where they go from here. this is the second player this week to announce retirement. borland, only 24 years old. but he cites major concerns over his long-term health because of the major head trauma from the the gridiron. willis announced his retirement last week because of a nagging foot injury. but borland told espn that he was ending his career because of the derns over -- concerns

over head trauma. he said from what i've researched and experienced, i don't think it's worth the risk. he reportedly had two condition kukses growing up -- concussions growing up. he also believes he got condition kution symptoms last year during -- concussion symptoms last year during training camp. he cites recent studies in connections to football players and health conditions after they have retired. conditions like depression, memory loss and suicide. but bigger picture, will have have an effect on the kids playing football or will we see other players in the nfl retire early because of health concerns? >> i have five sons. all varying in ages from 29 do twins that are 15. they have played football. the twins have not. actually, a head injury is a concern. i -- you know, i think it's unfortunate that he's retiring. but i understand. >> i it's think very good. i mean, he's putting his health

today some fast food workers will hold a protest. they say they are pressured to work faster. that's causing more injuries. at least 28 safety complaints have been filed against workers after workers were -- say me were burned at mcdonald's restaurants around the country and the workers claim some restaurants don't have first aid supplies when someone gets hurt. these workers have been calling for higher pay. the city of oakland recently raised the its main mumm wage to 12.25 and hour -- minimum wage to $12.25 an hour but the demonstrators want 15 an hou .
