will move in. southern california into arizona dealing with the low of cloud cover. could be a few rain showers towards spring training. for us, after this moves out, it will be sunny and nice. a northerly breeze should kick in later. with patchy fog it will disappear quickly. 60s and 70s on temps. here's sal on an update. i know we had some issues. >> northbound 880 northbound, there is a crash in the right lane and traffic is going to be slow. we saw a lot of emergency vehicles getting up to the scene. you can kind of see them in the distance. the traffic is backed up to san leandro. i can show you a very good alternate route. that would be 580. 580, the road sense -- sensors are showing us an alternate. that would be a much petter option than 880. let's go to the bullpen where that's backed up for a 25-

minute delay at the pay gates once you make it on the bridge, it's okay. but it will be slow getting onto the span. discovered a new crash, northbound 280 at meridian. look at all of that slow traffic. the crash is out of our view. saw a bunch of emergency vehicles. 280 is bad now. i would avoid it. perhaps use 101 or 85. we'll get you more on this crash as we know more. 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. san francisco police shot and killed a woman they say tried to use her car as a weapon. police say she drove on a sidewalk, clipped parked cars and took aim at officers. ktvu fox 2's alex savidge is live in san francisco with the dramatic communication we've obtained among officers. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning to you. investigators believe this woman may have been behind the wheel of a stolen car last night. she went to great lengths to try to get away from police.

at one point, police say she was drivingth wrong way down this one-way treat. this is pine street. at another point, she jumped the curb and was driving down the sidewalk. you can hear from the audio that the officers who fired truly felt this woman was putting far to many people in harm's way. >> turning around going the opposite of traffic. crashing into every car. >> reporter: investigators say two officers eventually opened fire on that woman as she drove her car along the sidewalk in their direction. this all happened around 7:00 last night on pine street just off van ness. police say the woman slammed into several other cars as she was going down the street. she also hit a building at one point. but amazingly, no one was seriously hurt. no other innocent bystanders. this dangerous situation began when two plain clothes officers went to check hout a possible stolen car at a nearby gas

station. they went up to the blue volkswagen sedan and tried talking to the woman inside. but investigators say that woman hit the gas and sped off from the gas station. she got about a block away and then made a u-turn according to police and started driveth wrong way down pine street. police say she jumped the curb and was heading down the sidewalk when two officers fired at least two rounds. >> being this close to van ness obviously the vehicle already made it on the sidewalk off the sidewalk several times. drove at them. they thought that they needed to use the force that they did. >> reporter: the woman who was killed has not been identified. authorities have only said she was in her late 20s to early 30s. police say while she was driving the wrong direction down the street last night along with hitting a number of cars, she forced a man on his motorcycle to jump off his bike, abandon his bike to try to get out of the way and not be hit by her car. a very close call there.

the department's homicide investigation unit, the internal affairs unit and the district attorney's office all will be investigating last night eight shooting, tori, and we also under the chief of police will hold a community meeting at some point in the near future about what happened last night. >> it really is amazing that no one at least on the sidewalk was hurt. all right, alex savidge, su. 7:05. it was an early wakeup call for guests at a small union square hotel evacuated after a one- alarm fire that broke out this morning. the fire was reported in the basement of a building on sutter street near grant in san francisco just after 1:30 this morning. fire crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. a desk clerk at the park hotel on sutter tells ktvu that guests were evacuated temporarily. we're told everyone is safe and guests have been pay loued back in their rooms. a hang glider is safe after being rescued by lifeguards off the sonoma county coast. the 68-year-old man crashed

into the ocean at goat rock beach near jenner. lifeguards say he was chilled from exposure to the cold water but did not appear to be hurt. san francisco has a new bus service this morning, and some frustrated muni riders have a new way to get to work. cute fox 2's tara moriarty is along the bus route and you know why -- ktvu fox 2's tara moriarty is along the bus route and you know why some can't wait to try out the new service. >> reporter: it's very loud here. we're at one of the bus stops. there have been a lot of google buses pulling up, kind of wonder would this new service get any riders. but sure enough, it did. this is the latest bus to pull up here. this is the no the service we're talking about. but let's roll video. this is called leap transit,

equip with wi-fi and food and drinks for sale. this swanky new ride will cost you $6. double the cost of a muni but less than a taxi. the economic boom has clearly taxed the public mass transit system. we asked commuters what they think of this new option. >> i think it's a good idea for people who don't want to take muni. i know that the 30 from the marina to downtown tend to get crowded. i have friends who take that as well. i can see that being appealing for somebody in the situation. >> reporter: if all goes well, there are plans to expand the service to the mission, the richmond and potrero hill. leap has received backlash for lack of wheelchair accessibility but it has plans to accommodate the need in the future. the service runs from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. and then again from 5:00 to 8:00 at night. we'll try to head downtown where all of the buses are being drop off so we can talk to some of these people as they are getting off the bus and find out what they thought of

this brand-new service. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you. we are annoy hearing from neighbor -- we're now hearing from neighbors who rushed to rescue a family of five hurt by a hit-and-run driver in east oakland. one man recorded the hectic scene on his cell phone at macarthur and 68th avenue monday night. a woman can be seen holding an 11-month-old baby girl rescued from the wreckage. another woman helped the mother who was trapped on the passenger side. >> do not stop breathing, whaferp you do. stay here -- whatever you do. stay here for your kids. >> others took hammers to the window and pulled out the male driver. firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free a 12-year- old and 8-year-old from the car. the victims are still in the hospital. witnesses say the crash was

caused by the driver of a tan suv still at large. a u.s. air veteran expected to plead not guilty today in new york to charges of providing support to isis. prosecutors say 47-year-old aviation mechanic taird pugh tried to fly to syria to join isis. the evidence is said to include a laptop computer showing border crossings into turkey. he was arrested in january. but there are reports federal authorities have been following him for more than a decade. he could face up to 35 years in policen ifth can -- in prison if convicted. more tests were scheduled on a letter mailed to the white house that contained cyanide. it was delivered to an off-site mailing screening facility. pam cook is checking reports now. the letter may have been marked for inspection because it had a return address of a man with a

7:-- coming up on 7:14. developing news out of tunisia in for africa. in northern africa. eight people are dead in a tourist museum. it's unknown if any of the victims are americans. but a government spokesman said only one of the people killed was from tunisia. reports say the attack may not be over. special forces have gone into the museum which is a leading tourist attraction. it chronicles the history there and houses one of the largest collections of roman mosaics. it's believed terrorists may still be inside the museum with

hostages. this national museum is jeast to the parliament building -- it adjacent to the parliament building. we're following this story. and we'll have an update when more information becomes available. back here at home, some parents in fairfield, they are pushing the city to improve security in parks around baseball fields after a recent shooting and kids went scrambling. the gunfire was last friday afternoon at the skate park next to a baseball field at alan whit park. parents of the little league, they packed a city council meeting last night. they want the city to improve fencing around the park and also add more police presence out there. they say this is not the first time they have complained about thefts, drugs and vandalism. some of the speakers say homeless people stay in the baseball dugouts and parents are forced to clean up after them. >> kind of difficult when we're trying to do something positive and just a very short distance

away, there is a whole lot of negative happening. >> we want to secure our field and make it safer for us. >> some of the parents out there are even calling for the city to close down that skate park. a fairfield police lieutenant says with the recent increase and upswing in the economy, there's more resources which he thinks will help the police out there better fight crime. a senate senate committee will hear a proposed bill that would require california to stop using crumb rubber in sports fields an play fields. now, crumb rubber is tiny bits of rubber made from recycled tires. environmental groups fear it has ccketted to more than -- ccketted -- contributed to more than 100 cancer cases. there will be a guest on the dr. oz show today to talk about the investigation and she will be joining us coming up in the next hour. trader joe's recalling

walnuts because of a possible salmonella investigation. take a look acat the packages -- at the packages. to get a list of the codes and the best -buy dates, go to the website the fda said the recalled wul knits were distributed in trader joe stores all across -- walnuts were distributed in trader joe stores across the country. also kraft foods is recalling about 6.5 million boxes of macaroni and cheese. they could possibly contain small pieces of metal. now, this affects original flavor, kraft mac and cheese sold individually and in multipacks. the boxes have best when used by dates between september 18th and october 11th, 2015. it also has the code c-2 below the expiration dates. eight people have reported they

ankle. >> he will be back. sal is back. you are keeping an eye on 880. >> i am and kerr said he will not try to rest players when they are at home. on the road. speaking of oakland and 880, this is the 880 freeway near the coliseum where the warriors game will be tonight. slow traffic, northbound 880, they are clearing a crash up near 29th and traffic is slow out of san leandro passing that coliseum marina complex and getting up to downtown oakland but i have a decent alternate for you. that would be 580. if you look at the road sensors not too bad getting through oakland that way. pull out your 580 alternate route. it will probably be a good idea for you. as we look at the rest of the east bay, highway 4 is a mess. we had a minor crash on highway 4 on the other side of the willow pass grade but the damage is done. 680 is a little bit slow right at 242 as you head down to

walnut creek. and then we look at the south bay now and northbound 101, 280, are all slow because of earlier problems. 280 at meridian they are clearing a crash there. the bay bridge toll plaza, about a 30-minute wait before you get on the span. today's weather will be kind of nice. let's go to steve into it is indeed, sal. it will be nice. kind of chilly. we have a coolness here. a few high clouds came by. they are completely washing out. they are clearing -- you can there's not much left. but just a little bit. maybe some patchy fog. everything is down in southern california or into arizona. san francisco starting off -- i think they made it to 52. it's 53 right now. 60. we'll go for a high of 67. oakland starting off 52. we'll go 6 at noon and a high today a lovely 71 degrees. 40s on the temps. a lot more 40s than the last few days. lose the cloud cover. had the west wind, the fog yesterday, low 50s but generally a lot of 40s.

a bay area nonprofit organization that introduces at- risk youth to music is reeling after being robbed. the organization is guitars, not guns. instruments were stolen from the home of an instructor a week ago. last friday a woman was seen on surveillance video at the guitar center in emeryville trying to sell one of the stolen guitars. a friend of the musician who works at the store recognized the guitar and called police. that woman was cited for possession of stolen property but she was not arrested. three other stolen electric

or not. the traffic on 880 is going to be slow as you pass the coliseum because of a couple of different incidents we had earlier this morning on 880. you can see it's slow all the way down and stays slow into downtown oakland. >> there's downtown oakland way up there. most of that traffic will be slow. you might want to use 580 as an alternate because 508 is doing pretty well. it's a little bit slow as you approach highway 13. at this point, it's much better than the slow traffic on 880. look at all of that slow traffic. it's backed up out of san leandro. 580 westbound is slow through livermore and 680 is backed up from 242, 242 is very slow through concord and walnut creek. a lot of slow traffic in the contra costa area. out to the bay bridge toll plaza we go, 25-minute delay. it's very thick. 280 serecovering from an earlier problem downtown. that traffic is slow to the valley. back together desk. >> all right, sal.

developing news for you in the north bay. sheriff's deputies are trying to find a missing 12-year-old boy with special needs. ktvu's brian flores joining us live now. you are in santa rosa. what's the latest. what's going on? >> reporter: well, dave, as daylight is now here, that means search crews will begin to ramp up efforts in the search for a missing 12-year- old boy here in santa rosa. his name is lucas may. we're in the valley area of santa rosa. this is a strip mall basically here. this is the general area where sheriff's department officials say lucas may may have been headed to. now, again, here is information we know so far -- lucas may, he's 12 years old. authorities say he has autism. lucas was last seen 7:30 last night at his home on jamison road near sonoma mountain road here in santa rosa. it's unclear why he left. officials say lucas is white, 5'" feet tall, weighs about00 pounds. he has brown hair and brown

eyes and was wearing a gray hooded jacket, a black shirt and red tennis shoes. as we look at a map, from what we understand, he may have been walking towards a safeway grocery store, roughly about four miles from his home off jamison road in santa rosa. it remains unclear if any witnesses saw him walking. we continue to work on those details, including trying to get a picture out in the hope to find him. as we take it back out here live, this the safeway store. sheriff's patrols units were out looking for him. daylight is here. that means the search efforts will ramp up again this morning. coming up on "mornings on 2," we hope to get an update from sheriff's department valleys on how the efforts are going this morning. >> i know we are trying to get

more photos of him as well. >> reporter: we are. >> thank you. this morning there is a warning for parents in fremont after another bat infected with rabies has been found. janine de la vega is live in fremont and has just talked to people who live in the neighborhood where authorities plan to spread the warning today. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i was surprised because the people that i've been speaking to this morning say it's common to see bats flying at night in this neighborhood. now there is a nearby lake and that's what may be attracting the bats to this area because they feed on mosquitoes. now, one bat was found right here at niles elementary school near this playground. the sick bat was discovered on friday at the school by a man and his daughter who were walking their dog. the bat was still alive and the dog picked it up and the owner brought it to the animal shelter. results just came back yesterday that the bat has rabies. the dog has been vaccinated but it will still be quarantined

for 30 days. last week a dead bat found near the entrance of the irvington community center also tested positive for rabies. alameda county vector control says it's possible more rabid animals are in the area. they've just gone undetected. those who live near the school are taking the news in stride. >> we have a lot of kid around here. we don't want the kids infected or hurt by it. they are nocturnal. i'm not worried too much about it. >> reporter: but you hear them and see them. >> i've seen them. you can hear them ticking as they go by. >> reporter: rabies is a fatal disease that affects the brain and nervous system. it can be prevented with a vaccine given soon after exposure. the principal of niles elementary has sent a notification to parents and later this morning, they will go door to door, vector control workers, to tell people not to up it the bats.

if they witness an animal that's normally nocturnal but is warming around to the area or staggering during the daytime, that they need to either call vector control or the health department to report it. tori? >> little some important information there. thank you. a man who led chp officers on a wild chase through four counties is now facing charges of felony evasion and driving under the influence of drugs. now, the chase ended with this rollover crash right here on interstate 280 and los altos hills yesterday afternoon. 24-year-old raymond bernouw climbed out of the wreckage and was arrested. the chase started in solano county when police tried to pull him over. investigators say he sped away going up to 95 miles an hour. chp officers put down spike strips. that flattened some of the tires. but kept driving until the front axle fell ail part.

three people were killed. four others hurt in a drive-by shooting that happened at a convenience store instockston. when the -- in stock -- in stockton. when police got there, a woman was dead on the sidewalk, the rest of the victims still in the shore. two women and one man were killed. witnesses said they heard as many as 40 gunshots. police say that area is nope for a lot of gang activity -- known for a lot of gang activity and it's often hard to investigate crimes. >> when we have incidents in a neighborhood like this, it's hard for uniform or detectives to get information at the scene because people don't want to be labeled as that snitch. >> because there were so many victims, extra homicide detectives were called in along with gang investigators. parents are waiting to hear what schools their kid will

attend. according to the chronicle, almost all, about 89 passengers got into one of their top choices for a san francisco school. however, almost a quarter of those applying for prekindergarten did not receive their top choices but there's still hope. the district announced yesterday, it's opening a new pre-k program at sheridan elementary school. interested parents must apply by april 0th the we're expected to learn more about university of california students will have to pay more in tuition. a committee of two made up of jerry brown and janet napolitano are expected to give their preliminary report on mow tension hikes at this morning's meeting. it starts at 8:30 this morning in san francisco. napolitano has said uc will have to raise tuition 5% in each of the next five years if lawmakers don't provide more funding. that has sparked protests across the uc system and also the governor urged the

had a couple of crashes. even though the crashes are gone, the slow traffic is there. this is because it normally gets slow closing the commute on 880 but a lot of people have figured out that 580 is the place to be but it's slow, get this from castro valley all the way to lakeshore. that's one long slowdown through castro valley, san leandro, all the way up to the lakeshore curve and gets better right after that. i can't recommend one or the other. but i can recommend if you are only going a short distance in oakland or san leandro avoid the freeway. maybe you can use east 14th or international if you know the area and are a local. let's take a look at 580 which is also slow in livermore and dublin. 680 acrash -- southbound 24 at 680 there is a crash. 680 is a mess heading down to walnut creek. and then in san jose, we have slow traffic on 101, 280 and 85. this is bu to earlier crashes. if you drive in the valley, every freeway is slow

complicated by caltrain delays. the south bay is not having a good morning. back to the desk. i'm sorry. we have one more thing. this is the bay bridge toll plaza, that's actually not too bad. about a 0-minute delay. now we can -- about a 20 minute delay. back to the desk now. san francisco police shot and killed a woman last night after they say she tried to run them over. ktvu fox 2's alex savidge is in san francisco to explain the dramatic series of events that led up to the shooting. >> reporter: well, police were after this woman in the first place because they believe that she was driving a stolen car and last night, they say she went to great lengths to try to escape arrest of the at one point, she was driving the wrong way down pine street, a one-way street. at another point police say she jumped the curb and was driving down this sidewalk. from the dispatch audio, you can tell that the officers who opened fire truly felt this woman was putting a lot of people in harm's way.

>> opposite way of traffic. crashing into every car. might have to take lethal force. >> reporter: investigators two officers opened fire on the woman as she drove her car along the sidewalk in their direction. this all happened about 7:00 last night on pine street just west of van ness. police say the woman slammed into several other cars as she was going the wrong way drown the street. she also hit a building but no bystanders were hurt. this dangerous situation began when the officers went to check out a possible stolen car at a nearby gas station. they walked up to the blue volkswagen and tried to talk to the woman inside but investigators say she sped off. got about a block away. made a u-turn and started driving down pine street the wrong way. police say when the woman jumped the curb, two officers fired. >> being this close to van

ness, obviously the vehicle already made it on the sidewalk, off the sidewalk several times. drove at them. they thought that they needed to use the force that they did. >> police say there were a number of close calls last night. at one point while the woman was driving in the wrong direction down street, a man on a motorcycle was forced to jump off his bike to avoid being hit by her car. the woman who was shot to death last night has not been identified by authorities. police will only say that she was in her late 20s to early 30s. the department's homicide unit, the internal i a -- affairs div vis will be investigating this police shooting. we also understand the chief of police will be holdal community meeting -- holding a community meeting at some point in the future. guests at a union square hotel were evacuated after a one-alarm fire broke out this morning. it forced them to be evacuated

for a while. it was in the basement of the park hotel street on sutter and grant at 1:30 this morning. the fire was under control in 30 minutes the a desk clerk says the guests were evacuated temporarily. we've been told everyone is safe. the guests have been allowed to go back to their rooms. we're also now hearing from neighbors who rushed in to rescue a family of five who were badly hurt by a hud driver in east -- hit-and-run driver in east oakland. one man recorded that scene at macarthur and 68th avenue on monday night. you can see a woman here holding an 11-month-old baby girl rescued from the wreckage. another woman helped the mother who was still trapped on the passenger side. >> do not stop breathing, whatever you do, baby. stay here for your kid. don't go nowhere. don't go nowhere. she grabbed my hand. i said that's right. >> other people took hammers and smashed the windows and pulled out the man who was driving the car. firefighters had to use the

jaws of life to get a 12-year- old and an 8-year-old out of the that wreckage. the victims are still in the hospital this morning. witnesses say the crash was caused by a driver in a tan suv still out there on the loose. we have an update to the developing news in northern africa. a terrorist attack is over at a popular tourist museum in tunis in tunisia. authorities say at least eight people were killed including seven foreign tourists. it's believed most of the victims came from europe. it's unknown yet if any americans were hurt in the attack. a government spokesman says two gunman armed with russian-made assault weapons stormed the museum, government forces then went in and killed the two gunmen. a security gunman died in the rescue operation. while the terrorists have not been identified, they've struggled with violence in the recent years.

we're learning about about a police raid on the offices of uber in paris. police form stormed the offices on monday and held the team in custody for a whole day. uber adds the reason for the raid is still unclear an calls it an attempt to add intimidation. the ride sharing service is technically not legal in france but uber continues to operate in paris. a german court has banned uber from offering its ride sharing service in that country. the ruling bans uber from offering rides to drivers who don't have taxi permits. the ruling stems from a lawsuit brought against uber by a german taxi association. 8:08. some san francisco commuters today, they are boarding buses from a brand-new service. in fact, they just started operating a little while ago. tara moriarty joining us live from along the bus route. you are hearing from some of the riders frustrated with muni. >> reporter: that's right. we're here in the marina

district on chestnut and fillmore where typically people will back muni buses elbow to elbow. many of them have become so frustrated, they decided to give this new service a shot. it's called leap. here is video from a first-time rider we got earlier this morning when he jumped aboard around 7:30. the private buses are equipped with wi-fi and laptop as well as food and drinks. this ride will cost you $6. compare that to muni, tickets are only $2.25. but finding a seat on muni can be quite tricky. we talked to a guy who decided to give leap a try today. >> i feel it's a better option. the muni bus is always packed. just -- the inside looks really cool. looking forward to taking it. hopefully i can catch it. >> leap is completely redesigning -- think of it like a lounge on wheels.

crumb rubber, according to some experts, it's no laughing matter especially for parents. studies show it contains nearly 30 hazardous substances, including lead. it's used on play grounds and fields right here in california. our reporter melanie will appear on dr. oz later today to discuss the issue. but she joins me in the studio to explain what's being done to tackle the crumb rubber concerns. remind viewers what is crumb rubber. >> i think you told me your children even play soccer. this is crumb rubber. it's okay to touch. >> it has a little bit of turf in there. >> probably don't want to touch it or put it in your mouth. >> you can see the played. it's tire crumbs broken down. they've become the infield between the blades.

the problem is when you think about a tire, it contains toxins and chemicals. and they could be potentially dangerous to a player. the issue is these little crumbs become like hitchhikers. the real issue is for goalkeepers. there is a thing called the goalkeeperrary curse. it's the goallies diving for the ball. a lot of times these crumbs get in their mouth. right now the science isn't necessarily there to say someone who pass played on this type of synthetic turf will develop cancer. but the problem is, the science thus far is limited. the studies haven't looked at many fields and haven't looked at ingestion as a route of exposure and that's what a study would do if this bill passes. >> there is some type of fill that's safe. it's not all toxic. >> exactly.

not all synthetic turf is bad. synthetic is good for the environment. it safes -- saves water and is easier to maintain and there's alternatives, coconut husk or ground up sneaker soles. we're talking about this crumb rubber made from recycled tires. >> what's happening in sacramento today? >> they are gonna debate a bill that senator hill introduce. it's calling for a new study for the office of environmental health hazard assessment. basically, they did a study previously but it was limited in the number of fields that it looked at and senator hill wants a more thorough study one that would look at ingestion as a route of exposure. that will be debated in the committee. we're expected a heated debate from the synthetic turf associate. folks on the other side don't think it's safe. even hollywood is weighing it and senator hill's office received a letter from the

there is a frightening new warning about another rabid bat found in fremont. janine de la vega is there in fremont and said in both cases, the bats were found in areas where the kids play. >> reporter: the principal at niles elementary sent out a notice to tall parents letting them know about the rabid bad that was discovered here near the playground. it wasn't found during school hours. but they want to make sure that people are aware. the sick bat was found on friday by the school by a father and daughter walking their dog. the bat was still alive and the dog picked it up. the owner brought the animal shet ertz. the results came back that it has rabie. the dog has been vaccinated. it are still be quarantined for 30 days. alameda county vector control says it's possible more rabid

lawmakers don't provide more funding. that sparked protests across the uc system and prompted governor brown to explore other options. starting this week, there are tough, new water restrictions all across california. watering gardens and lawns now restricted to twice a week and it's banned on rainy days and within 48 hours after a storm. hotel operators, you are required to put reminders in guest rooms that daily linen service can be declined to help save water. in a restaurant, customers won't be given water unless you ask for it. >> since california is in a drought, i think it's a good idea. for me i would rather have hot tea. >> now, individuals and businesses who violate the new requirements, you can be fined as much as $500 a day. local water agencies will have to report their enforcement efforts to the state.

blueshield of california has been stripped of its tax exempt status. the paper says the state franchise takes bord board wyattly revoked that status last august. that could mean that blueshield would owe the state tens of millions of dollars in taxes every year. the tax board is not saying why it made that move but it came after a long tax audit.

secret service for sending questionable packages dating all the way back to 1995. now, so far, the secret service has not issued any official comment about that because this is an ongoing investigation. but we will certainly be covering the story throughout the day and this evening. tori? >> all right. thank you, pam. 8:44. the domestic abuse trial of san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi is being turned into a play and the writer and star of the play is his wife. in an interview, she said she wrote the play in spanish. it's called "what is the scandal" to tell her side of the story. mirkarimi was arrested in january 2012 after arguing with his wife. at the center of the investigation was a tape that lopez made with her neighbor showing bruises on her arm and saying mirkarimi caused the injury. mirkarimi was suspended as sheriff during the trial but was eventually reinstated. the play is scheduled to open in may. mirkarimi is running for re-

election in november. caltrans will look for more cracks in the rods used to anchor the bay bridge tower. crews will use electronic microscopes to look for small cracks at the top of a rod that links the suspension bridge tower to the foundation on the new eastern span. last month, that rod was removed for testing and caltrans discovered it had tiny microscopic cracks as well as corrosion at the lower end. caltrans will use ultrasound to determine if the other 423 anchor rods are still in place, if they are broken. b.a.r.t. says service between the fruit veil and coliseum stations will be disrupted at times by major repairs in the coming months. the work will take place on weekends starting next month and is scheduled to continue through august. bart says train service will be replaced by a bus bridge. it plans to announce details. they say the work is necessary to keep them safe and continue reliably serve, the public.

of a freezer. investigators say he may have suffered from a mental illness. they are looking into whether this was a possible suicide or a homicide. the man's name has not been publicly released until his family is notified. robert durst, accused of murder here in california, he's now in a new orleans psychological observation area. last night he was take on a mental health facility. durst was arrested saturday in louisiana on a murder warrant from los angeles. in that case, he's suspected of killing the daughter of a mob boss back in 2000. durst who also is facing gun and marijuana charges in louisiana, admitted in a recent hbo documentary that he killed several people. in 2008, he was acquitted of killing a neighbor in texas in another murder case. now, when durst is extradited to los angeles, investigators will be looking into whether he was involved in the disappearance of twoe
