up where 24-year-old alice brown died. police approached the woman because they believe she was driving a stolen car. that is when investigators say she took off and tried to run down the officers. she struck several parked cars before police opened fire killing her. >> also in san francisco a tagger was arraigned in court today. he is charged with 30 counts of vandalism, including 10 felonies. police say they believe he painted crist all over the city, that refers to crystal meth. girl injured after she and her mother were hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk. it happened after noon at the stonestown mall. ktvu's david stevenson has been out there since this afternoon and david, people who know the intersection say they are not surprised by what happened

today. >> reporter: that's right. police say they don't know how fast the suv was going when it struck the mother and her daughter in this crosswalk here but pedestrians tell us this is an unsafe place to cross. >> reporter: the accident happened after noon and brought ambulances to the corner of stonestown mall. >> really dangerous. always have to look everywhere to cross the street. >> reporter: police say the driver struck and seriously injured a mother and her 5-year- old daughter in the crosswalk. >> both were taken to the hospital. the daughter has more serious injuries than the mother. >> sky fox capturedtured the scene. the collision broke the mother's arm and sent the girl to san francisco general hospital with a life- threatening injury head injury. at one point the driver was taken away by ambulance but returned to her suv and allowed to leave. police don't need to impound the vehicle because they have

the evidence they need to investigate. >> she did stop and cooperating. >> we did see someone get hit last year. >> reporter: drivers tend to race into the intersection, prompting more fears of accidents. especially since this gym opened in 2013. >> i haven't seen that many collision reports here but there is a lot of cars here and people here. anytime you get those two you have to be careful. >> reporter: at this point the driver has not been sited. police were looking for witnesses and surveillance video to help determine what happened and determine whether charges will be filed. >> david stevenson in san francisco, thank you. millionaire real estate heir robert durst accused in the murder of a former friend is looked at the disappearance of two women from northern california. one of the women was reported missing 20 years ago. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's paul chambers is live

with the request from the missing woman's family. >> reporter: i received a statement from the family, with the interrogation into robert durst they are hoping it could lead to more clues and they are hoping the case will be opened again. >> reporter: robert durst is back in the news and facing charges of murdering susan berman in 2000. 71-year-old robert durst hasn't been identified as a person of interest but the families of two northern california missing women want authorities to reopen their case. 1997, they were last seen -- she was last seen leaving her job in san francisco. investigators place robert durst in the bay area. for years the family searched for her, putting up billboards throughout the bay area with the image of the woman who came to the bay area to take

classes. now her father said robert durst news corrected enough of a question mark, i am going to follow up with the fbi. if he was in that area it raises potential red flags and questions. police are handling the case because she was an oakland resident. the department said the police department conducted an investigation with the assistance of the federal bureau of investigation regarding the 1997 disappearance. the investigation was active for several years. at this time we don't have evidence that indicates robert durst was involved in her disappearance. robert durst is linked to the disappearance of another california woman, she vanished in 1997. the district attorney could not discuss the case and robert durst's lawyers say they know nothing about the case. >> he is looked at in other murder cases as well.

thank you very much. authorities today identified a truck driver who was killed when his out of control big rig slammed into restaurant. they say the driver was 52-year- old ewell levy. the crash happened monday morning. the big rig slammed into mexican restaurant and burst into flames. witnesses say the truck may have a mechanical problem. they could hear the truck trying to break and down shift. ewell levy honked his horn and tried to warn people to get out of the way. a new attraction popped up near at&t park. the yard at mission rock. it sits in the parking lot across the stadium from the cove. it is a pop up village made out of 13 recycled shipping containers. biergarten, a coffee shop and

a woman is under arrest, she is suspected of burglarizing a church twice. an alarm went off that church. that is when the photo was taken. an officer spotted a woman who matched the description downtown. investigators say she had a key to the church. no word on how she got the keys. the ceo of starbucks is lawing a campaign aimed at start -- lawing a campaign aimed -- launching a campaign

>> the panic built slowly. till it was unbearable. >> reporter: they searched outside with a flash light. neighbors came out to help. another hour went by with no sign of her. then a neighbor used his smart phone to send out a alert through next door. it went out to hundreds of people. >> the more people you have the faster we can find had child -- the child. >> reporter: minutes later 2-3 dozen neighbors came out to look for her along side police. >> people started coming from blocks and blocks away. streets and streets. >> people walking their dogs that decided we are in the vicinity, let's start looking. >> reporter: neighbors worked along police officers to search for the 10-year-old. >> they had no problem with the neighbors looking around. it fold like one community effort. >> reporter: 12:30 a.m.
