here and apparently never has been. but this is where he and a group of young men met, and clashed creating chaos for the neighborhood. >> reporter: from sky fox, a pain staking door by door search as police look for as many as five men involved in a shooting. this officer looking in the back of a boat just in case. four square blocks were sealed off as police try to pick up a trail. an officer assigned to el cerrito high found a 19-year- old man outside the gym shot in the arm an hour before school was to let out for the day. >> i was out front and i seen him, he was all bloody and stuff. ten -- then i was like god. and the teacher came out and told me to get back inside. >> are you good? >> i'm good. man i was so scared. this is the first shooting

that's ever happened at this school. >> reporter: two juveniles were detained. one seated the other in the back of the patrol car. but investigators aren't certain of their involvement. >> reporter: we're unsure if the suspects got out of the perimeter before we set it up. >> i checked my house, i checked my house. this is unusual to have this kind of activity. this is a great neighborhood. it is. >> i'm nervous. because the kids are not answering the phones inside the school. >> reporter: this mom left work in oakland and came as soon as she could. >> i know how a lot of kids are getting shot, so i rushed out here as fast as i could. >> reporter: parents were told to stand by, they were assured the kids were safe. 600 students sheltered in class before the all clear was given.

>> i don't know. it's just crazy. because it's normally a peaceful neighborhood. so i don't expect that to happen. >> reporter: police are also looking into the possibility this shooting is related to another episode of gunfire yesterday across town in which no one was hurt. and it turns out the man wounded today was not only shot through the arm, but also through the leg. a wound that he hid from police as he refused to go into an ambulance. frank had had -- frank, he had a friend drive him to the hospital he's there now and he's refusing to talk to detectives. a sheriff deputies shot a man inside new orleans international airport tonight after authorities say the man attacked three tsa agents with wasp wasp spray and a m

achete. white then got through the agent and sprayed another agent and took out his machete. >> he has a laceration across the upper right arm. the tsa agent grabbed a piece of luggage in order to defend himself as it relates to the machete. >> reporter: an officer shot white three times. he was taken to a hospital in grave condition. that innocent bystander was treated to a graze wound to the arm. and a couple of others suffered cuts while scrambling to safety. >> reporter: tonight isis is claiming responsibility for coordinated terrorist attacks on two mosques. more than 100 people consider killed in those attacks. the terror group says it sent suicide bombers into those mosques during midday prayers. jana katsuyama here with

in san francisco. one member lost a relative in today's attack. >> to kill people that came to the mosque to pray. to kill kids, to kill all people. >> reporter: he and others worry about their families in yemen. where civil strikes have left the civil strikes of mosque untouched by now. >> that's why people are so shocked because this is the first time that it happened. >> reporter: a poor country with a mostly sunni muslim population has been in chaos since september when a group of shiite rebels took control of nine of the 29 provinces. sunni extremist groups such as al-qaida have gained a foothold there. but al-qaida denied responsibility. their leader has prohibited attacks on mosques. instead a group claiming to be associated with extremists said online it was responsible. the white house said there's no confirmation. >> we deplore the brutality of the terrorists. >> a mosque is supposed to be a

sacred place. a place you can go connect spiritually and no matter what's going on, you leave it at the door. >> reporter: for this yemene immigrant in oakland outrage is mixed with a deep desire for peace in a homeland warped with war. >> i remember growing up with really friendly people. this yemen today is just unfamiliar and it's just scary. >> reporter: it appears a third suicide attempt failed about 160 miles north of the capital. and frank and julie the white house is investigating now whether the claim that came out by twitter by this group that claims to be responsible might have had any direct connection to the islamic state in syria and iraq. >> seeing those pictures i don't even know what to say. they're just horrible. >> reporter: hard to think that they were attacking innocent people who were just praying and not militants out fighting.

>> and innocent kids too. today authorities announced the arrest of 24 known gang members. prosecutors say the accused gang members are responsible for shootings, stabbings, robberies, and drug smuggling in san jose. >> for those younger youth out there, contemplating this lifestyle i think these operations definitely send the message that if you get into this lifestyle, you're likely going to do time for it. the district attorney's office says it is still looking for six fugitives tied to this operation. the rest are said to go on trial next month. students reporting for a high school swim class in san jose made a horrifying discovery today. there was a body at the bottom of the deep end. ktvu's ann rubin tells us the man was fully dressed and weighted down. >> reporter: piedmont hill high school let out early. >> my son is doing swimming and

i don't know, is it a student? i don't know what it is. but i got that message that they found a body in the pool. >> reporter: pool officials were cleared, it was not a student. staff members had been accounted for too. but the body of an adult male had in fact, been found at the bottom of the deep end of the diving pool. aurora camp was in the swim class that made the discovery. >> they were going to pull the covers off of the pool area. and then when they saw. >> reporter: there is a high fence and barb area around the pool. but today the district superintent -- superintendent says they found a breach in it. >> the pool was secured after swim practice by a head coach and teacher. so it had to have happened sometime after school and practice let out last night to this morning. >> reporter: first responders arrived on scene about 8:45 a.m. they described the body as being fully clothed and in their words weighted down. >> we were able to use our

blood alcohol tests on quinn weren't done until six hours later and it shows that he was above the legal limit. but the delay in testing was too long and there was really no way for sure if quinn drank after the crash. the city of san francisco is going after building owners who have repeat safety violations such as missing fire extinguishers, locked exits and blocked fire escapes. as ktvu's david stevenson reports the new focus comes in the wake of devastating fires in the city's mission district. >> reporter: fresh flowers are posted to the liquor store. as neighbors grief the life lost here. >> we used to come to the store all the time. just like going to your friend's house. >> reporter: the fire broke out march 11. 38-year-old muhammad shaitti who ran the store and lived here with his wife and three children died over the weekend: his 13-year-old daughter died wednesday and was layed to rest today according to a family

member. >> just a beautiful young girl. so much potential. just hard to make sense of anything like that. >> reporter: in the wake of this and other recent fires, the city says it is stepping up safety enforcement. this january 28th fire, a few blocks away killed a man and left dozens of others homeless. inspectors say there was numerous violations including missing extinguishers, locked escapes. >> this is to send a message to the owner, they are responsible to make sure the building is safe. >> reporter: the building inspection fast tracked complaints to three other buildings for repeated safety code violations. the complaints allege missing or nonworking smoke detectors, blocked fire escapes and chained exit doors. the dvi though says it is understaffed. it hopes tenants will complain in order to make building owners compliant. >> we don't want to put them in jail or punish them. we want them to do their job to make sure to protect the lives.

>> reporter: the cause of this fire is still under investigation. a go fund me account has been set up to help the surviving family. east bay mud is proposing a $1.8 million budget. and some customers could see their bills go up depending on how much water they use. east bay mud says the lack of rain coupled with aging pipelines are the big factors here. east bay mud may have to buy water which would be costly and the biggest capital expense would be $70 million to replace up to 30 miles of pipe. in the south bay to the santa clara valley district meets next week and will consider having residents restrict their outdoor watering

another dead bat has tested positive for rabies in the bay area. this time it was in san mateo county. the bat was found at the plaza condos on plaza view lane. yesterday in alameda county, crews handed out fliers. in the last week, four bats have been found. the discovery is a reminder that pets need to be vaccinated against rabies. police in campbell say a man who was driving under the influence has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. 60-year-old phillip handle struck and killed his 41-year- old stepdaughter yesterday afternoon in their driveway. she was reportedly helping him

attempted murder and hit-and- run following a parking lot confrontation in compton last night. attorneys of robert durst are accusing louisiana authorities of illegally arresting him. also today an fbi spokesperson would not confirm reports about whether the fbi is helping local authorities in several parts of the country try to link durst to several cold case killings. durst is due in court for a hearing on monday. governor jerry brown was in the bay area today speaking at the bay area employer forum about the importance of finding jobs for parolees. >> the whole point of today is to get people working, get people studying. get people taking programs. working on mental illness on upgrading their skills. their reading, getting degrees all of that. >> governor brown said getting convicts jobs will keep them from returning to prison.
