tonight with ron -- good evening i'm ken wayne. >> and hello everyone i'm heather holmes. that nevado boy suffered serious injuries including spinal trauma. the boy is in intensive care tonight in oakland. catie uthes is live tonight.

>> reporter: the family thinks he fell through the skyline 40 feet to the ground. while doctors were trying to diagnose him for those injuries they discovered a previously undiagnosed condition. >> do you have any more pain right now? >> yes. >> reporter: agonizing moments as paramedics worked to pull him from the car. michelle norgosa tried to comfort her son who she had just driven from the school after receiving a terrifying call. >> he was on top of the roof and he fell through a skylight and landed on his back. >> reporter: paramedics happened to be in the nevato community hospital following a different call and hospital staff asked for their help. at that point, negosa began taking video. williams injury sos severe he was taken to children's hospital in oakland. it's the region's trauma center. >> he has seven fractures in his spine and trauma to the

head. >> reporter: his grand parents rushed where you could see him being unloaded from the ambulance shortly after noon. >> i was in shock. >> reporter: pictures from inside the hospital show the large lump on williams head. he's had internal bleeding. and through unconsciousness he explained why he climbed. >> they were playing basketball and apparently someone kicked the ball and he went up in the roof. >> reporter: the district released a statement. saying we have no statement of the injury at this time, but our hearts are with the father -- with the family. >> it could have been fatal. >> reporter: they found something previously undiagnosed. a benign cyst on his brain. >> unfortunately or fortunately it was on the side that he hit and fractured so they found it. >> reporter: right now williams family tells me he has feelings in his fingers and toes so no

obvious par -- paralysis from the fall. but he may be put in a full body cast before being released from the hospital. as for the cyst, the family tells us the doctors plan to observe it before moving forward with treatment. heather, ken. >> reporter: he's such a lucky little boy to have survived that fall. spring in the bay area started with a little bit of rain. >> a little bit. meteorologist mark tamayo is here with an early look at those showers moving in. a little bit of mist in the morning. >> some showers, and rainfall rates have been picking up especially in parts of the bay. in fact, here's our live camerawe're looking out to the golden gate bridge. some moisture as a system is moving in from the north. here is the perspective right now. you can see the rainfall first starting up in the north bay on storm tracker 2 and gradually moveing to the south. reports of a good steady rain

up in santa rosa all of a sudden the fairfax area as well. we'll come a bit closer and show you current coverage. scattered rain showers in santa rosa. but look at this. heavier cells out toward american canyon but especially out toward napa. those oranges and yellows do correspond to heavy areas of rainfall. and look at this band of light to even a few moderate cells for south san francisco, san francisco and heading across the bay for the bay bridge and right about to approach oakland and san leandro with light showers moving into the weather picture. the rain showers a big part of our forecast. and we have your full forecast at 10:35. new pictures taken just minutes before a deadly rock slide. a viewer sent us these pictures today. it shows the fisher that caused the collapse near arch rock.

that rock collapse in marin county killed one person and put another in the hospital. it happened at arch rock, cristina rendon joins us with what happened and you have a firsthand account with a witness. >> reporter: we spoke with a woman who was at arch rock moments before the collapse. and she told us it was a surreal experience and tonight she's trying to help the victim. this massive slide arch rock happened unexpectedly saturday afternoon at point rays national seashore. this imagine shows just how big the collapse was in compareson to the people at the top of the photo. a witness named melissa says she was there moments before the ground gave way. she says we heard a loud boom sound like a wave was slamming into the rocks it almost sounded like thunder. we turned around and the cliff was falling behind us. the woman says she took this picture moments before the cliff collapsed. two people fell with the rocks.

there was no way for us to get down there to them. we needed a helicopter. the sonoma county sheriff's office helicopter did arrive taking one person to the hospital. the other victim died. a spokesman for point rays says this fisher or crack in the land first appeared wednesday. he's never seen a collapse this large. >> i think what shocked us even just as much is how quickly we saw this crack in the ground there and then how quickly it broke off. we've never experienced anything like that. >> reporter: he says warnings were posted to watch out. >> we all take this to heart. it's a tragedy, it's a sad day for everyone involved. >> reporter: melissa knows she could have been a victim too. it's why she set up this go fund me account hoping someone can help the victims.

she says seeing someone's final moments is a life changing ordeal. >> the area leading to arch rock is now closed indefinitely. >> what about those signs? i know those sign were there but were they right by the crack on the ground. >> it appears they weren't right next to that area. melissa herself said she saw those signs but it wasn't clear to what areas were closed off. she along with many other people were in that area. but on the flip side of the coin, officials say there was no way for them to predict what would happen so they didn't rope that off. >> but closed now, thank you very much cristina. members of a search and rescue team are heading to yosemite to search for a missing hiker. the marin county sheriff's department tweeted earlier that its search and rescue team will join the yosemite rangers to

search for dahl. the marin county team the a volunteer unit made up of 80 highly trained offices. the three alarm fire in west oakland early saturday killed two people who lived in the unit where the fire broke out. one of them is identified as 27- year-old davis latona a multi media artist. the second victim's name has not been released. everyone else was able to evacuate the flames but the damage displaced more than 30 other residents. santa clara police are warning of a phone scam tonight. so far four cases have been reported of a person posing as a police sergeant going by either sergeant gomey or erik dandy. now in both phone calls, the caller was told that they had been caught on video speeding

and a warrant had been released for their arrest unless they paid the fine. yesterday's ruling could mean millions of the dollars in further awards if powell wins her suit. the judge found there is enough evidence for jurors to find malice or other grounds for punitive damages. closing arguments are expected to begin on tuesday. a heart wrenching scene of anguish as members of brooklyn's jewish orthodox community gathered for those seven children killed in a house fire. the coffins of the seven siblings some very small were

wheeled past crying mourners. the children all died when their fire broke out in their home yesterday morning. investigators say that a hot plate left on for the sabbath malfunctioned starting that fire. the mother was badly burned trying to save her children but only she and one daughter managed to escape. the neighbors remembered the children as loving and good children. >> whenever it would snow they could come out and clean my walk without even telling me. and i would give them lolli pops and they were just so happy with the lolli pops. >> reporter: the children's father was away in a retreat. today he asked his children for forgiveness. saying he and his wife had done their best. he implored of those at the gathering to love their

children. it's the only thing that counts. marchers gathered in front of oakland technical high school where alice played football and was an honor student. they called for an end to the violence that claimed his life and the life of many other young people. ellis's father says he is committed to do everything he can so that no one else suffers the pain he feels. >> i want to stop the kids from becoming the killers. i want to catch them early and find out what's going on in their lives to make them so angry, so upset. you know so hostile. if i can stop a kid from becoming a killer that's a win- win situation for me. >> reporter: those at today's event called for parents to reach out to their children and find out what they're doing, what they're reading, who they're spending time with and what they're doing on social media. california's over time spending spiked to more than a billion dollars last year. this despite having 20,000 fewer state workers than before the recession. the last time that overtime spending was that high. most of the money went to state prisons which accounted for

minutes and 14 seconds. >> oakland california. >> the oakland resident gave a shout out to his hometown. the 26-mile marathon course takes runners to mont clair. he says he appreciates the fact that the course doesn't try to hide that. >> so many times you're either driving in a car or going to your neighborhood that you know and you're sort of set in. and this lets you see everything. >> reporter: back at the finish line, spectators turned up the volume for the youngest marathon in the half marathon. as he stumbled across the finish line and he broke the record by more than 10 minutes. >> a new world record. >> he did it, he did it. today marks the fifth anniversary of the affordable care act.

congress passed the law on march 22, 2010 and the president signed it into law within days. since then republicans have tried to repeal the law at least 30 times and it survived challenges in the supreme court. president obama said today more than 16 million americans have gained health insurance cutting the ranks of the uninsured by a third. and he told republican lawmakers quote, the affordable care act has been the subject of more scrutiny, more rumor, and more attempts to under mine it than any law in recent history. it's time to embrace reality. it is official. the presidential campaign of 2016 is now under way within the last hour. senator ted cruz of texas announced his bid with a tweet saying, quote i am running for president. tomorrow the 44-year-old texas republican is scheduled to kick offer his campaign with a speech at the virginia christian university founded by

the reverend fallwell. cruz's tactics resulted in a partial closure of the state government. and the islamic state calls on supporters to kill members of the military. the group posted online names and addresses of hundreds of military members. the defense department says it is investigating this online threat. the group calls itself the islamic state hacking division. and said the names of those listed were involved in u.s. air strikes against the islamic state and iraq and syria. u.s. officials though say it does not appear. the marines is asking its members to look at its online footprint to note how much personal information is available. the group that wants to build a new home for the oakland raiders in san diego chargers and southern california says it has reached a major milestone. supporters of the new stadium in carson 15-miles from the downtown los angeles area say they have twice as many signatures as they need to put

one of the oldest restaurants in the bay area is being forced to close its doors. >> reporter: mr. mcgoos is a throw back. it opened back in 1965 and very little has changed. >> i shortened my name from

police in three bay area cities shot suspects during an eight hour span. the third incident happened in santa clara. an armed robber ran out of a convenience store just as

police officers pulled up. the result in clash was deadly. >> when i came down, there was already a dead body with paper bag right next to it. >> reporter: that paper bag had cash from the 7/11 register. so close to participant building residents -- apartment building residents heard the shots. >> it was bad because he caught in the act but i guess you're not supposed to rob a 7/11. >> reporter: authorities have the surveillance video which they're not releasing. >> it was two officers pulling into a parking lot. >> reporter: it was just coincidence, officers were pulling up as the clerk was getting robbed. >> i'm glad the cops did what they have to do.

but pretty scary having to fire the gun too. >> reporter: police won't confirm how many times the man was hit but witnesses heard several shots fired. >> maybe that was the only -- it was pretty sad. but it's very dangerous to work in those stores. >> do you worry about getting robbed here? >> yeah. but i love working. >> reporter: this is the second officer involved shooting this year. last month and auto burglary suspect tried to mow down a santa clara cop and that officer opened fire wounding the driver who survived. this time aware their suspect had already taken a shot, officers had to assume he would do so again. >> that's a pretty serious situation. >> fearing for your lives and there were citizens in the parking lot as well. the officers discharged their firearm. a few minutes earlier or later the robber might have gotten away instead of gone to

the morgue. witnesses say a car full of accomplices waiting out here were caught too. a man involved in at shooting left an apology note. his identity has not been released. the note reportedly apologized for the trouble he caused unknown persons and also apologized to police who were forced to end his life. richmond police have identified a suspect injured yesterday when an officer shot him after a car chase on roosevelt avenue. police say the suspect was trying to escape on foot when gunfire was exchanged. police identified the suspects as 19-year-old daniel tolosa

possible from san pablo. he's expected to survive his injuries. the officer was not hurt. the security council has a meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation in yemen. yemen is on the brink of a civil war that neither side could win. the council issued a statement condemning rebels and demanding that they give back control or face further measures. yemeni officials today said that shiite rebels took over the country's third largest city. the rebels also control much of the northern part of the country. the president of tenesia said there was a third gunman who carried out wednesday's massacre that left 21 people dead. the government has launched a massive gun hunt. two other gunmen were killed by

security forces. relatives of one of the gunmen gathered for his funeral today. friends and neighbors say they don't understand how he could have been responsible for the attack. >> he wasn't poor, he was educated. how did extremist manage to reach educated people. he wasn't in need, he has good clothes, good food. what pushed him to do that? >> islamic state has claimed responsibility for attack however proported details of the attack have also been linked to an al-qaida group. now the agreement which would be extended to july, stops a clock on the lawsuit over the terraces apartment

complex. sidney considers the development of houses. especially concerned about traffic in the congested area around the high school and another school. that city council meeting takes place tomorrow night at 7:00 in the lafayette community hall. a driveless call began a cross country trip from the bay area to new york -- driverless car. they hope to gather performance data. this is believed to be the longest test drive of a driverless car in north america. there will be a driver on board just in case a human is needed. the car should arrive in new york next month just in time for the car show. and a competition was held today to name the top dog. it is the wild world wiener dog racing that took over the sleep train pavilion today. the little dogs scampered down the track some faster than

it's getting harder and harder for bay area skiers to find a resort to ski at. businesses that rely on the skiers are hurting as well. but a sugar bowl spokesperson sounded optimistic about the start of next season. >> at a certain point you have to close. but we're looking forward to next year. >> there's a few ski resorts open including kirkwood and north star. but it's been pretty dismal. >> just so warm and so little snow. let's check in with mark tamayo because i have to say.

when you showed up the bay bridge, we were surprised. >> we are welcoming the rain drops across the bay area and even some snow up in the sierra. here's a live camera looking out toward the area. we do have downpours. you have the idea here. we have rain drops in the area. the rainfall has been picking up over the last hour or so approaching the central portions of the bay. look at gernville, .40. san francisco just adding rainfall .02 but these numbers changing quite a bit. in fact, you can see right now on live storm tracker 2. the rain band making its way through the central portions of the bay and even approaching the south bay. the heaviest rain has been to -- has been focused up in the north bay. more steadier downpour tp-rs -- town pours for this part of

the season. out toward hercules approaching martinez. here you can pick up some of the cover. this has been the extent of it here. those yellows and oranges do correspond to more intense downpours. oakland, san leandro and hayward we're adding rain to this part of the area. also alamo and the san ramon area. we move the maps to the south and not as much coverage for the south bay. but as i mentioned knocking on the door. here's our live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge. forecast headlines in the short term. we do have this rain for parts of the bay area. the chance for showers in the morning hours. then a dry pattern and we go in the over direction a big warm up with those temperatures. first thing tomorrow morning starting up a day with the upper 40s and 50s with a chance of a few showers. that's primarily for the morning hours. monday will be the coolest day
