all are feared dead after a german plane crashes into the french alps. now crews are combing the debreel -- debris field. the plane went down in a remote part of the french alps. here's what we know so far -- officials have recovered one of the plane's black boxes. no word upon whether it's the data or cockpit voice recorder. 150 people were on board, including two babies. officials believe that 67 of the people on board were

german. the debris field spans 100 to more than 200 yards. fox reporter has more. >> reporter: a tragedy for the family of those on board a german aircraft, crashing in the french alps with 150 on board. french's president said there's still chance of finding any survivors. >> translator: in is a mourning period that we need -- this is a mourning period. it's a tragedy that's occurred on the land. >> reporter: the flight traveling to dusseldorf. the crash site in a very remote area which may make search and recovery efforts challenging. >> translator: i'm sorry for this very sad and dramatic accident. we'll do all possible to help families and give them our support and attention. >> reporter: german wings, an economy plane, it's a single

aisle two-engine jet used for cities located one to five hours from each other. the aircraft has an excellent record. >> ladies, and je, this is a -- gel, this is a sad and tragic day. >> we're continuing to monitor the search. the search is over for two lost hikers in marin county. they've both been found safe. three people set out on a hike from stinson beach to you mount tam. the search for them began around 2:30 a.m. the national park service says the male hiker was located after 9:00 this morning the

female hiker was located and hour ago. there's no word on her condition or why the hikers split up. an active search is underway in vallejo for a missing woman who police say is being held for ransom. sal castanedo is live in vallejo and has just heard from police. what are they telling you about her disappearance. >> reporter: they haven't said a lot. they have described this investigation as a full court press. police say they have help from the fbi. they have agents here helping the vallejo police to search for this woman. this morning, police are searching for an area near mare island for this woman, 29-year- old denise hoskins, a physical therapist. the abduction yesterday was first reported to police by a man who lives at a house on kirkland avenue where the woman was reportedly taken earlier monday morning. he has not been identified by police. police say there has been a ransom demand made. police say hoskins was taken

away in a car, found later at an undisclosed location in vallejo. police won't say why the man who reported the abduction waited for almost 12 hours to call them. >> he was essentially saying that female, mrs. huskins, was forcibly taken against her will from the residence. >> reporter: but that's all police will say. it's not clear if the man couldn't call them or just didn't. police also won't say if he has any relationship to her but neighbors say he's the woman's boyfriend and they lived together at the house. police say as far as the car used in the abduction, it's a white toyota camera with license plate 4 gqa 436. police are asking anyone who saw the car or suspicious activity, to call them. we do know that a credible ransom demand has been made. we know who the woman is. we do know that she is still missing. but as you know, tori, in

investigations like this police often won't release all of the details, for example, it's very curious as to why that man didn't call the police right away. we can only speculate as to why that is. but police are still searching and they do have a lot of help in this case. >> yeah, a lot of times they don't want to reveal too much to jeopardize the investigation. >> reporter: one more thing, tori, that i should say. i don't knee if i said it already. police are not considering this man here a suspect. at least they are not naming him a suspect. they say he's been cooperating with the police. >> obviously a story we'll continue to follow. thank you, sal. cal/osha is investigating a tragic accident in martinez where a gravel truck tipped over and crushed a bomb inside the car. the big rig filled with 20 tons of gravel toppled over yesterday and it landed on a car parked in a driveway killing a 32-year-old woman inside. neighbors say they called 911

and ran over to help as soon as they saw what happened. >> it was terrible. it was like metal on metal scraping real loud and men yelling, oh, my god. no, no, no. and then heard a big crash and then i heard a horn honking. >> bun one of the workers -- one of the workers was trying to dig her out of the car. a few of us tried to dig her out of the car and i told him to get the backhoe try to lift the trailer off the car and the backhoe isn't strong enough to lift the trailer off the car. >> family and friends identified the woman as lindsey combs, she had a 4-year-old daughter. police say combs was in her car because the truck driver had just asked her to move it. some relief in antioch after a man suspected of attempting to abduct a high school girl is now under arrest. the man reportedly tried to take the girl near deer valley

high school. the 16-year-old told a teacher was walking to school when a man tried to grab her. she got away. then he got out of his car and she ran. another girl came forward about a similar experience last month. police eventually found alan in his car, not far from the school and he was arrested. multiple cars were damaged this morning in baypoint after a fire at a car auction lot. several fire crews from the contra costa fire protection district respoernded to the -- responded to the auto lot located on the 2700 block of willow pass road. this is video moments after the fire started just after 4:30 this morning. you can see contra costa county firefighters hosing down hot spots. firefighters say putting out a fire like this presented

challenges. >> it took quite a while to put the fire out and to do the overhaul to make sure it was fully out. a fire investigator on scene says it remains unclear how the fire started but they are looking at several potential factors. it took firefighters about an hour to put out the fire. three dozen members of congress are now calling for full funding for a west coast earthquake early warning system. the lawmakers are from california, oregon and washington sent a letter today to the house appropriations committee. it asks congress to allocate the funds necessary to the usgs to make a demonstration system fully operational. the system would cost just over $16 million. it would use hundreds of sensors to measure ground movement all over the west coast and provide several seconds of warning that an

visited before heading to the white house. a manhunt continues this afternoon for a jail inmate who escaped from custody in san francisco. sheriff's deputies are searching for 26-year-old alexander santiago gonzalez who was bying held on federal drugs and weapons charges. he was taking out the trash at the hall of justice last night with a deputy escorting him. that's when he ran down an alley. the deputy chased him but couldn't catch up. authorities say the inmate took off his orange jail jump suit after making his escape and last seen wearing his boxer shorts. there are questions about how he got away. he was being held by the u.s. marshals and inmates facing federal charges are not allowed to do any work outside of the jail. the escapee's court appointed attorney gave us a statement that reads, he's not a violent man and hopefully will be treated as such if an prepare

hended for cornered. for years, san jose has struggled with budget deficits and how to fund i city and police services. but this year's the biggest city has a small surplus. janine de la vega caught up with the mayor of san jose to talk about how he plans to spind money if fiscal year and his top priority. >> in a city of more nan 1 million people there's a lot of needs and wants of where money should be spent. the most pressing seems to be -- >> crime and safety and also cleaning up downtown. there is a lot of graffiti, cleaning up the neighborhoods. >> reporter: sam liccardo agrees. today he's presenting his budget. his top priority is using money to restore public safety after voters passed measure b pension reform, about 400 officers left, some retiring. others were hired at other cities offering better benefits. you will be losing good talent. >> reporter: tomorrow the

police union and city leaders will finally meet to begin the process of hashing out a plan. >> we set money aside. >> reporter: under the proposed budget, money would also go to hiring 26 additional community service officers and buying body cameras for officers to wear on patrol. another component of addressing public safety is investing on making the straight safer. liccardo also wants to fund programs for youth, adding after-school programs, spending library hours to six days a week. >> investing in jocks for treens -- josh -- jobs for teens. these are the kind of investments we know can improve opportunity certainly for a lot of families that are struggling at the same time that we improve safety. >> reporter: there is an 8.6 million surplus, city leaders say that's very small and only accounts for less than 1% of

some areas are pretty close here it includes the coast and bay. there's not a huge spread on these temps. you can feel muggy there. water temps, where are you? there were there when i looked earlier. they are about 55. 56, 5, 57. that's very warm for this time of year. should be in the upper 40s. west wind at fairfield. west at concord. west at napa. west at novato. we have an onshore breeze. west or north off even san jose northwest. nationally, look at the division between the cold air to the north and also the warm air to the south. that's where you usually find some severe weather. there's been no tornadoes in the united states in march. that's the -- that's a record. the old record was the 23rd. this won't do it. there might be a little bit of severe weather coming out of that. i doubt it. it's too cold. it's just incredible. the quietest since 1970. temperatures too cold for much of the country to go et the

0. well, u.s. stocks have actually turned around. they are town slightly as investors assess the latest news on consumer prices. the labor department said the prices were lifted for the first time in four months. the dow is down 85. the nasdaq is down 112. the s&p is down 10. two companies including one headquartered in the bay area are recalling their products because of a possible listeria
