that is why they are using sonar. that is safer than the divers going down. the sonar gives them a wider picture. >> if they asked them to come out are they going to give them an incentive? >> reporter: that would probably be what would happen. they would like to find them on their own. >> thank you. we have breaking news about a shooting in san francisco about an hour and a half ago. police got calls of shots fired. a car with three wounded people cerned up at san francisco general hospital. one person was shot in the head. a second in the chest. the third had lacerations to the hand. no word on their conditions. san jose plans to hold a prayer vigil tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. at city thrall officer michael johnson -- haul for officer michael johnson.

-- hall for officer michael johnson. today we are learning new information. san jose police say the gunman, scott dunham, was shot and killed by another officer who returned fire. >> i wish i had a better word than bravery for what the officer did. he saved his life and he may have saved the lives of other police officers police officers and other community members. >> that officer and several others are now on paid administrative leave. a new controversy involving the san francisco sheriff's department. it follows accusations that some were running a fight club for inmates. ktvu's david stevenson reports, the deputies are now in paid administrative leave. >> the allegations surfaced two weeks ago, san francisco jail inmate's father e-mailed his public defender and said sheriffs made his son fight

another inmate. >> reporter: san francisco public defender said inmates named four deputies and two bailiffs as involved in the ring. he said he was injured after being forced to fight an african american inmate earlier this month. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: lawsuits in 2006 and 2007 allege new sexually harassed inmates. the city offered a settlement

in the later case. in 2009 the city settled another suit. >> i am disturbed by it. >> reporter: the deputies are now on paid administrative leave and the sheriff launched an internal investigation. >> i do not except any kind of culture within our county jail system that would resort to such barbaric or unlawful activity. >> reporter: he says he was threatened with a beating and sexual assault if he did not agree to a third fight this month. [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: sheriff asked the u.s. attorney a help investigate the allegation. they have been reassigned to another jail. the public defender wants them freed saying he believes they may be at risk. in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu fox 2 news.

a 13-year-old boy from martinez is in juvenile haul accused of stab -- juvenile hall accused of stabbing a classmate. it happened at the junior high school about 11:00 a.m. this morning. the 13-year-old stabbed the 11- year-old. the 13-year-old then walked out of the locker room and immediately told an adult what he had done. one student says it may have had something to do with bullying. >> he was being bullied and the day before he wanted to hurt him. they thought it was a joke and laughed it off. >> the superintendent said the opposite. she says the attack was unprovoked. police say the victim was stabbed once in the back and will be okay. too soon to know what will happen to the suspect but he

may be suspended erectionspelled. expelled. expelled. new development in a reported kidnapping and now being called a hoax. this is new video of the victim leaving police headquarters following an interview with investigators. it comes one day after she was found hundreds of miles away in huntington beach. and now attorneys for the boyfriend of the victim insists it wasn't planned. ktvu's noelle walker is in vallejo with more on the questions being raised in the case. >> reporter: attorneys for denise huskins' boyfriend say this was a real kidnapping with very real victims. it was last night that police were calling this a hoax. take a look that video we shot 45 minutes ago. a woman believed to be the victim denise huskins left police headquarters. you could see for a moment elbefore an officer steps in front of her. -- before an officer stepped in

front of her. we have not heard from police today but we are now hearing from denise huskins' boyfriend's attorneys who say the kidnapping was real. they talked to the media to clear the air. >> i want to make it clear to everyone that we have not seen evidence yet that this was some type of hoax. he was drugged and there were two kidnappers. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> he was forced to drink something that the kidnappers told him was drugs. >> reporter: now the attorney says his client submitted to 17 hours of interrogation. he also gave them access to his phones, ipad, computer, gave them all the passwords. also let them check out his home. he says the boyfriend got phone messages, texts and e-mails from the kidnappers demanding $8,500 ransom, which his attorneys say was ridiculous,

a dozen people were injured. three critically. after a building explosion, fire and collapse in the east village of new york city. massive flames could be seen. 250 firefighters tried to put out the fire. new york's mayor said evidence suggest gas related explosion caused caused the fire and collapse. there are no reports of anyone missing. investigators say the co- pilot of the germanwings plane deliberately crashed the jet liner into the french alps killing all 150 people on

that means no home games this fall. john sasaki, ktvu fox 2 news. the issue surrounding crumb rubber prompted a senator to sponsor a bill. it calls for new research on the material and for a moratorium on new fields. the state assembly approved a $1 billion spending package for drought relief. it would fund upgrades to the water infrastructure as well as provide food and water to hard hit communities. the bulk of the money, $660 million is earmarked for flood control and prevention. the governor says floods are followed by heavy rains. they released a report suggesting our current drought could be the worst ever. even worse than the drought in the 1970s.

[ talking at the same time ] >> all the kids are out there right now. >> thank you. it is the 4th anniversary of the marine mammal center but the focus is on the continuing sea lion crisis. they are one of the largest rehabilitation hospitals. they are dealing with a record number of starving sea lion pups. 234 animals on site. officials say they have found better ways to treat the pups and many are strong enough to be returned to the wild. >> luckily we are starting to release some of the sea lions. yesterday i release exams on 17 and all will be ready to be released probably tomorrow or next week. >> he says they are able to do the work there thanks to the dedication of volunteers and donations that help pay for this operation. >> a lot of dedicated people
