has cleared up. 280 northbound was slower than usual for a friday. but look how quickly it cleared out. we're getting that friday night. in the next two weeks since we're coming up on easter and spring break, we'll see some schools out for the week and we'll see scott limier than usual conditions i think on some. commutes. i want to warn you, everyone will get out of town early. we see it every year on the friday before the spring break. people leave the office at 12:00 or 1:00. just be careful. especially in san francisco. let's take a look at the livermore valley. that's lighter than usual. sometimes this thing is lit up like a christmas tree. today there is only a little bit of slowing traffic 0 approaching highway 8 -- traffic approaching highway 84. when you get to the been toll plaza, it's backed up for 10, 15 minutes. the 880 commute is better than normal. i think we'll have a decent

commute. just a little bit, getting into san francisco. back to the desk. an alleged kidnap for ran some in vallejo earlier this week has taken another bizarre turn. police call it a hoax, but attorneys for the alleged victim and her boyfriend say it was real. ktvu fox 2's tara moriarty joins us from the home where this all started. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. no sign of any movement here at the home. it looks like no one has been staying hererrive since we've -- here ever since we've been covering the story. the attorney for denise huskins said she was kidnapped. her and her boyfriend said they will fight to clear their names. yesterday, around 5:00, huskins emerged from the vallejo police department after being questioned for hours. two days ago, investigators portrayed her as a fakeer.

>> when they thought that egg was gonna end up on someone's face, they threw it on her. there's no egg here. this is a legitimate crime. >> reporter: huskins claims her kidnappers freed her near her parents' home in huntington beach on wednesday. aaron quinn, her boyfriend, said two kidnappers abducted her early monday morning. he claimed they bound him and drug him and that is why there was such a delay in reporting the crime. >> the major quinn in mr. quinn's mind something that had happened to her. we understand the pressures on the fbi and the police department to solve this crime. on the other hand, there seems to be a stream of blatant lies coming out about our client, about the victim and about what's going on on. >> reporter: he said he admitted to a to taking a blood

test and -- he said he submitted to taking a blood test and underwent question. a lot of questions here and now everyone wants to know how vallejo police will respond. we have reached out to them. we're hoping to hear back later this morning. we'll let you know. i'm tara moriarty, back to you. >> thank you. 7:06. we posted the news conference from the attorney of denise huskins on our website, ktvu.com. look for it at the top of our home page. we continue to learn more about the copilot who appears to have deliberately crashed a plane into a mountain in the french alps. yesterday, german police searched the home of 27-year- old andreas lubitz. investigators found a medical leave note from doctors showing he suffered a health condition that would have prevented him from flying the plane the day of the crash that he hid from his employer.

they did not say if it related to a physical or mental health issue. but german news media says he had a history of depression and may have had a falling out with his girlfriend. we'll have more on these developments being released this morning. we're learning more about a fight in berkeley between a homeless man and one of the city's downtown ambassadors. those ambassadors are trained for outreach to the homeless. alex savidge joining us live this morning. you will show us this incredible video of that altercation, alex. >> reporter: we sure are, dave. good morning to you. that downtown berkeley ambassador involved in the fight, he's lost his job. the homeless man he was fighting with earlier on this week has been arrested. the two of them got into it in this alley way. it's right off shaddock avenue. the whole thing captured on video by a witness.

[bleep] >> reporter: this was posted on youtube earlier this week. you can see that ambassador in the neon green shirt arguing with the homeless man and punching him several times. there is also a second ambassador involved here, a woman, who can be heard yelling at another homeless man who is swinging a stick. this fight happened sunday night about 7:00 p.m. police showed up. they arrested the two homeless men. the ambassador who was seen here on the video throwing punches has been fired. we spoke with the ceo of the downtown berkeley association. he says that he's troubled by how -- dash by the way this ambassador behaved. >> this guy snapped for some reason, totally inexcusable and -- but i don't think it's indicative but we to take full responsibility for it. >> reporter: that ambassador involved in the fight, the man who lost his job has been

identified as jeffrey bailey. now, he apparently told his supervisor that earlier in the day, the two homeless men seen on the video had threatened him with physical violence. that was hours before this fight in the alleyway. ambassadors here in berkeley are trained to do homeless outreach and call police when there is a threat, that did not happen in this case. that's why he lost his job. now, ktvu also spoke with a friend of the two homeless men involved in that fight and that friend told us that the ambassador had followed these two men on the day of the fight here to the alleyway and was in his words messing with him. that was shortly before this heated exchange here in the alleyway, dave. >> alex savidge thank you for the update. 7:09. meantime an investigation is underway into why a casino tour bus caught fire in menlo park. it happened yesterday afternoon and here's some of the cell phone video sent to us from the scene. look at the damage. it was heavily damaged on

highway 101 just north of willow road. firefighters say the bus was empty. the driver escaped unharmed. that bus was on the shoulder of the freeway but there were huge traffic jams as a result of that fire. well, the 49ers say fans will enjoy some upgrades in year 2 of levi stadium. a big complaint this past season, the sun sweltering one side of the stadium. the team plans to install misting fans along the plaza and air conditioned benches on the concourse just to help the fans cool-- cool off. the team will now be able to host weekday night games next season. >> kind of interesting. their old own home was fleeing. >> freezing and windy. remembering the life of fallen san jose police officer, michael johnson. in 25 minutes, details on the

police have arrested a man they say knocked a teenager conscious in the parking lot of valley fair mall.

25-year-old tru nguyen is facing a felony battery charge. police say he and another man were exchanging gestures with a group of teens in the mall on march 11th. when they reached the parking lot, police say nguyen punched -- punched rasner knocking him to the ground. his father said he woke up for the first time on wednesday. he's still in intensive care but stable. a 14-year-old is in juvenile hall accused of punching a stab mate. they say he stabbed a fellow student with a knife at martinez junior high. an 11-year-old was stabbed once in the back. he was airlifted to the hospital and is expected to be okay. investigators are looking into what led up to the stabbing. the superintendent says the attack appears to have been unprovoked. we have no knowledge that

the students even knew each other. there was no incident that precipitated the act. we don't know what caused it. that's part of what the investigation is here to do. >> the by accused in the attack turned himself into school officials. he's being held at juvenile hall on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. 7:14. on a lighter note, she said yes when she was asked to go to the high school prom in milpitasby the young man who popped the question, he will be missing a couple of days of school because of the way he asked a girl to go to the prom. brian flores is at milpitas high school where the student was suspended. what are the kids saying about this? >> reporter: well, dave, they are pretty upset over this whole thing. >> yeah. >> reporter: we're lav here at milpitas high school they are upset because of the way miguel gonzalez asked her out. some say it could have been

dangerous and that's where the line was drawn. >> yes! [ cheers ] >> reporter: that was milpitas high school senior miguel appropriately named romeo. he borrowed the horse from a friend's ranch. he rode it on campus during the school's first period. he thought it was a creative way to ask catalina fernandez to the prom. she said yes. a lot of the friends into it. you hear the cheers. the school was front impressed. they suspended miguel for two days. there was talk he would not be able to go to prom. they decided to let him go to prom. but his suspensions remain. they cited the dang -- the dangers a horse would pose. you used to go on a phone but now comments go to twitter. some comments say they are

toll plaza. the traffic is going to be getting a little lighter. but there is a warning that i have for you. today is the last day of school for a lot of people. a lot of people are going on spring break next week. that means today at 2:00, 3:00 people will be getting out of work and leaving the city, it will be a dicey commute. i would say out of san francisco. i kind of hope i'm wrong about that. i hope it's a great commute out of san francisco. but past experience shows it probably will not be. this is a look at interstate 880 northbound and southbound, the traffic here is looking pretty good as you drive down south. if you are driving into livermore valley we already have some friday light. it's usually very slow right through here but today it's doing very well. the fog has been an issue. let's bring steve in. fog has rolled in. it's making its move and though

it's very shallow. it's -- up above, it's clear. it won't take long for some of this to retreat. 47 santa rosa. the city is at 51. big chain. for coast and -- big change for coast and bay. another record for san jose. even gilroy hitting 90 degrees. santa cruz was 89. mountain view had 84. today santa rosa will be 75 after yesterday's 83. oakland, 72 after their record of 83. concord is 76 down from 82 and san jose 78 from that 85. san francisco forecast, 51 to start. a loot more low clouds and thick fog. have reports that glen park very foggy. 68 on the high side. some areas will be cooler than that. fog regrouped. it's still having a hard time making much of a push for some inland. it's following areas of least resistance. high pressure has capped that.

7:24. following developing news in davis where a five-hour standoff has turned into a double homicide investigation. it all started late last night when police received a call that two people were shot inside a home. s.w.a.t. teams were called in and people were evacuated from the area. once police got inside, they found the bodies of a man and a woman. no word of any suspects or a motive in the case.

7:24. a controversial new law in indiana allowing businesses to deny service to gay people. it's creating a backlash in the air bay area. mike pence signed the religious freedom restoration act into law yesterday. critics say business owners who don't want to serve same-sex couples will now have legal protections to discriminate. san francisco mayor ed lee responded to the passage of that law by banning city employees were traveling to indiana for anything work- related. and mark bennioff says his company is canceling all programs that would require employees or customers to travel to indiana. now, he along with other top executives sent a letter to governor pence urging him to veto the bill. the ncaa also expressing concern over this new law. the final four is scheduled to

be played in indianapolis april 4th. the ncaa released a statement saying the organization is deeply committed to provide an inclusive environment for all of the events. after receiving a bad yelp review, a bay area restaurant says it has proof the negative comments were a lie. according to wonderful restaurant in millbrae, this video shows a yelp reviewer walking into the restaurant looking around leaving again. on yelp, he wrote he walked in, the waiter came up and he said wanted a table for one and the waiter walked away and refused to see him. since the video was released, the man was deleted his review. the restaurant is receiving five-star reviews to the restaurant coming to its defense. it's another example of how out of control san francisco's housing market has become. this four bedroom home along oaks beach was listed $799,000.

michael johnson will be honored coming up in a few minutes. it's friday, march 27th. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. i looked outside. nice clouds outside your lower. low clouds, fog have returned. a record-setting day yesterday. the fog is very thick in spots. some of that has reduced visibility. it can be a little tough. shall hoe. high pressure still squashing it. a little inversion there. that's really keeping a company on things. we have a westerly breeze and we had a slight offshore. that makes a huge difference even though the ridge of high pressure has built up into canada. entire west coast under the dome of this high pressure. it's moving. it's slightly cooler temps on some of the lows. a lot of 40s to the north. west at 15. that was not the case yesterday which tied a record high. west at mountain view, west at san jose. 6s down south -- 60s down

backed up. it's a 15, 20-minute delay. somewhere in between those times. once you get on the bridge, it does look good. we have been looking at the 580 commute, livermore, it's definite lit lighter than usual -- definitely lighter than usual. southbound, a little bit of slowing through concord and pleasant hill. but it improves after that. back to the desk. two vigils are planned tonight in san jose for fallen police officer for michael johnson. as his family, his co-workers and the city continues to grieve we're getting more information about the gun battle that took his life. janine de la vega joining us live in san jose and tell us about the show of support for officer johnson's family. >> one of the vigils will happen in front of the condo complexes here on center road. this is where the shooting happened. people have left candles and flowers here for officer johnson. many of them didn't know him but they want to pay their respects to the man who

protected and served. police say johnson was shot and killed tuesday night when an armed man opened fire as johnson and fellow officers were approaching his home. many people living there heard the gunshots and witnessed what happened. they are holding a candlelight vigil here on center at 6:30 tonight and then at 8:00 p.m. there's another vigil being organized by other community yards in the courtyard at city hall. the mayor and other elected officials are expected to speak. they are inviting the community to come together to start the healing process. >> the hurt and pain here and all of these people are coming out to support the family of the fallen officer and letting him know that, you know, during the holidays hopefully you will feel our prayers, father's day, mother's day. all of these different added. a man lied his life down for people he didn't even though. >> reporter: at this bar and

restaurant on almaden expressway, owen knowen. hockey player, are organizing a rally and silent accusetion for the family on april 2nd, next thursday. they want to help the family and relieve them from any financial burden during this difficult time. the memorial in front of the police department has doubled incise. people continuing to -- in size. people continuing to bring flowers and cards. officers have said seeing this is very much appreciated. and it helps them. details on a city-sponsored memorial are still being finalized. it's expected, though, to happen sometime later next week. a coroner's report shows officer johnson's partner fired the shot that killed scott dunham. that officer is a 16-year veteran of the san jose police department. because of that shooting, san jose police are already on high alert. now, yesterday, the department's swawpt team

respond -- s.w.a.t. team responded to a domestic violence call but that it was taken into custody. police found an unregistered loaded rifle next to him. we've posted this story at ktvu.com listing some events honoring the officer and there are links where you can make a donation to the officer's family. 7:35. new this morning, a small earthquake shook part of the central valley about an hour ago. the 4.2 magnitude quake hit about 6:30. it was centered about 60 miles southwest of fresno. a police dispatcher says it lasted a few seconds. no reports of damage or injuries. there were several smaller quakes in the area overnight including a 3.5 one that happened at 12:35 a.m. a health alert has listen called off after a plume of smoke was sent into the air

following a chemical reaction from a container at dow chemical. no one was hurt. officials at the plant say there's no threat to the community. >> very, very high levels they could be dangerous. >> the biggest concern if chemicals would have drifted into the community. there have on other alerts related to the plant. in 2013, a problem with the core lien tank prompted an -- chlorine tank prompted an advisory. we continue to learn more about the copilot who appears to have deliberately crashed flight 9525 in the french alps killing everyone on board. pam cook is in the studio now with the latest in this intense and really emotional investigation. good morning, pam. >> good morning. it certainly has been. the new information about the health of the copilot is disturbing. german police have searched the home of 27-year-old andreas

lubitz. investigators say they found a medical leave note from doctors showing that he suffered from a health condition that would have prevented him from flying the day of the crash but apparently that note never made it to the airline. now, we do not know if the health condition was related to a physical or mental issue but there are reports from a german magazine six years ago he received treatment for a "serious depressive episode" and spent 18 months undergoing treatment. now, following the deadly crash, more international airlines are reyearing that two crew members are always present in the cockpit. here in the u.s., airplanes made it a policy after 911 that whenever the cockpit door is open, flight attendants must create a barrier between the cockpit and passengers. if a pilot leaves to use the restroom, a flight attendant must take his or her seat in the cockpit. aviation experts say right now sikes lodge cam screening is --

support. attorneys say their clients were traumatized. and police made a mistake in claiming the kidnapped story was made up. around 5:00 last night, 26-year- old huskins left the police department with a jacket over her face after hours of questioning. two days ago, investigators portrayed her as a fakeer. >> she's victimized first being kidnapped and then the second time being a suspect by the vallejo police department who issued a very nasty press release. >> reporter: huskins claims her kidnappers freed her near her parents' home in huntington beach wednesday. her boyfriend aaron dwin said she was abducted from the home early monday morning. meanwhile quinn's attorney say their client has fully cooperated with the fbi and police. as to why there was a delay in reporting the crime -- >> he was forced to drink

crashed a plane with 150 people on board into a mountain in the french allies. now, yesterday german police searched the home of that pilot, 27-year-old andreas lubitz. investigators found a medical leave note from doctors showing andreas lubitz had a health condition that would have prevented him from flying on the day of the crash and he apparently hid it from his employer. they didn't say if that medical leave note was for physical or mental health issue. there's reports he suffered from depression and may have recently had a falling out with his girlfriend. pam cook will have more on the developments this morning. a shocking video has surfaced of a violent encounter between a community ambassador and a homeless person in berkeley. alex savidge is live with the new information we've learned about the people involved. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, tori, good morning to you. the downtown ambassadors here

in berkeley are trained to offer support to to the homeless. one of those ambassadors is out of a job after getting into a fight with a homeless man and assaulting that man. it happened in the alleyway across the street from us here. it hatched a few days ago. the video -- it happened a few days ago. the video posted online. take a look. [bleep] >> reporter: here's the video posted on youtube earlier this week. you can see the ambassador in the neon green shirt. he's arguing with the homeless man in the alleyway and he begins to punch him several times. there's also a second ambassador involved. a woman, she can be heard yelling at another homeless man swinging a stick. this fight happened sunday night. police arrested the two homeless man.

the ambassador has been fired. and we talked with the ceo of the downtown berkeley association. he says he's troubled by the way this particular ambassador behaved here. >> this guy snapped for some reason, totally inexcusable and -- but i don't think it's indicative of the ambassadors but we take full responsibility for it. >> and the ambassador involved in the fight has been identified as jeffrey bailey. now, he apparently told one of his supervisors that the two homeless men seen on that video had threatened him with physical violence just hours earlier before that exchange there in the alleyway. we also spoke with a friend of the two homeless men involved in the fight. he told us that the ambassador had been following those two two men, followed them into the alleyway and was messing with them before this fight took place here. a lot more we're still trying to understand here. i've put in a call to berkeley

police to find out where the investigation stands. we'll let you know throughout the day how things play out. >> but that video, a key piece of evidence to find out what happened. all right. thank you. eight minutes after 8:00. an investigation into menlo park is underway as to why a casino tour bus caught fire yesterday. it happened yesterday afternoon. here's cell phone video. the bus was heavily damaged on highway 101 north of willow road. firefighters say the bus was empty and the driver escaped unharmed. the bus was on the shoulder of the freeway but there were huge traffic jams because of the fire. 8:09. well, this morning, authorities are still out there searching for a missing south bay inmate who escaped from jail. however, the brother of john carter has been arrested. he's accused of being an accessory after the fact. joseph carter was taken into custody in lodi. investigators say he helped john carter after his escape.

welcome back. italy's highest appeals court is expected to decide whether to uphold or overturn the conviction of this lady, amanda knox and her former boyfriend. in 2009, knox and her former boyfriend, they were convicted of murder and sexual assault in the death of meredith kercher. in 2011, an appeals court overturned that ruling.

amanda knox was released back to seattle. then in a surprise decision in march of 2013, italy's highest appeals court demanded a retrial. now, if the original conviction stands, it would raise extradition questions for amanda knox who would have to return to italy to serve her prison sentence. back here at home, stanford now the latest top school to face accusations of cheating. in a letter to faculty, the university wrote one faculty member reported academic dishonest lit that may involve 20% of students in a large introductory course. neither the class, nor the professor has been identified. the spokesperson said the concerns are being reviewed and have not been confirmed. a milpitas high school student came up with a creative way to ask his date to the prom. the way he did it got him

he's a 16-year veteran of the san jose police department. and in light of the shooting, san jose police are on heightened alert, the department tea s.w.a.t. team referred to as the merge unit, they responded to a domestic disturbance call yesterday. that suspect was taken into custody. police say they found an unregistered loaded rifle right next to him. 8:36. a small earthquake shook part of the central valley about two hours ago. the 4.2 magnitude quake hit about 6:30. it was centered 60 miles southwest of fresno. a police dispatcher said it lasted a few minutes. no reports of damages or injuries. there was a 3.5 -- 3.5 around 5:00 a.m. safety in the cockpit is now the main focus following a deadly plane crash in the

french alps. pam cook has more. >> we continue to learn more about the copilot who appears to have deliberately crashed germanwings flight 9525 killing everyone on board this morning. evidence he may have hidden important health information from the airline. now, german police have searched the home of 27-year- old andreas lubitz as well as his parents' home and they have come out with boxes of potential clues and a computer. investigators found a note from doctors showing that andreas lubitz had some sort of health condition that would have prevented him from flying the day of the crash but apparently that note never made it to the airline. now, we do know know at this point, if it was a physical or a mental health issue but the airline says he did take a break in his training six years eang and a german magazine reports he received treatment for a serious depressive episode. following the deadly crash, more international airlines are requiring that two crew members
