getting worse. the busiest freeways and the reason traffic wont be flowing faster any time soon. good morning. thank you for joining us monday morning, march 30th i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. i'm ready to talk about weather because steve is saying down the road. >> this weekend. there will be a change tuesday and wednesday but maybe this weekend. >> okay. we're not going to say the r word. >> not yet. but it will be a change. we'll have more on that. there is still six days for mother nature to change her mind. yesterday sunny and warm. i think you know bo of those. they -- i think you know both of those. today 80s and 70s. there will be 60s closer to the coast. a little cooler out of 82 we'll go 76 today.

a few high clouds. patchy fog popping up as this system approaches. that is all it takes. you can see there is a little bit there. that will give us a pretty crank up on the breeze starting tuesday into wednesday. today it will pick up the west wind. 40s on the temps or 50s. at least the mornings are on the cool side. we will see more of an on shore breeze. a few high clouds to the north. so it will be pleasant today. it will be nice. just patchy fog. lots of sunshine. a few high clouds in the north bay. 60s and 70s and a couple 80s. this may be it for the 80s this week. i know you have been busy on a monday morning. >> 580 and 680 is by far the worst commute and corresponds with that commute. it is getting extra help from an earlier crash. 580 that was at the 680 interchange. this is one of the web cameras cal tran has set up in the

area. you can see the brake lights are there. let me show you on the map a little bit of a drive time here. westbound 580 it is taking about 50 minutes to drive. 54 minutes to drive from grant line road to the 680 interchange. so that is a little worse than normal. that is a long way for you to drive. please give yourself extra time. this is a look at the east shore freeway. you can see that the traffic here is going to be okay from the carquinez bridge to the mccarthur maze is taking about 18 minutes exactly. let's go to 280 in san jose. 6:02 let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning concern is growing for a uc berkeley soccer player now missing for more than two days. the well liked freshman last seen leaving a fraternity party near usc in los angeles over

the weekend. tara moriarty is joining us from the cal campus with more on the search. tara. >> reporter: eloi vasquez plays soccer here. he was on spring break when all of this happened. we know his mother says a $50,000 reward is being offered by someone here at the university in order to help find her son. now vasquez was at a fraternity party close to the usc campus friday night. around 1:30 in the morning he told friends he wanted to take a walk but he never returned. he had no wallet, no money or id on him. just before 2:00 his friends say they called him and indicated he wanted to go to the beach which is a four hour walk away. and shortly later another phone call. >> his last call that we found out from verizon was to a girl in berkeley where he told her he's lost and scared and in his

words screwed which means he's in trouble. we know that something is wrong. that he could be out there somewhere. just lost and scared. >> reporter: vasquez attended high school in marin county. many of his family and friends are in southern california right now helping in this search for him. police will be reviewing surveillance cameras in the area where he went missing. the cal athletic department released a statement about his disappearance. he is a wonderful young man who has accelled academically and athletically in cal. oaf the weekend they started changing their facebook profile pictures. they show the flier with his picture and his number to call for anyone who might spot him. we have reached out to some of vasquez's friends and let you know what they have to say about latest search efforts for him. live from berkeley i'm tara

moriarty, back to you. >> thank you. hopefully we will get an update soon. also new this morning jet blue says a computer outage that has caused delays for passengers has been resolved. system wide commuter problem that caused delays because they had to manually check in passengers. jet blue is not saying how many flights were directly effected but it does say passengers could experience delays throughout the country for the rest of the day. a new bay area traffic study shows our commute patterns are changing that is making far longer drive to and from work for a lot of bay area people and probably you. ktvu fox 2 brian flores is joining us live now. you're right there along interstate 580 and you can explain why it is one of the freeways seeing a much busier commit. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, dave. let's just say 580 is living up

to the billing as sal mentioned as one of the worst commutes. as we take a look here, we're live in the livermore area. just off of airway boulevard. it is simply slow and go traffic. some bumper to bumper traffic as sal mentioned earlier. as we mentioned 580 one of the worst commutes out there. especially around this time. according to traffic experts it's only expected to get worse. according to the metropolitan transportation commission, traffic along the 580 has grown 9% and traffic experts call this is a choke point because the bottleneck traffic. the other choke point to talk about 580 and highway 17 from the santa cruz area to san jose. experts say traffic along 80 has fallen 5%. and traffic on 17 has dropped in recent years. now if we are going back to traffic on 580 coming in from 205 experts say the traffic is related to job growth. especially in the dublin pleasanton area. the other area where traffic is

is expected to increase is along 101 from areas like hollister and gilroy. experts point to home prices being relatively cheap here. now in determines of hours and how many people are spending time in their commute, experts say an average of nine more hours on bay area freeways since 2012. another starting statistic, traffic along 580 set to surpass traffic along interstate 80 within the next five years. traffic patterns certainly changing. >> we certainly see it all. brian flores, thank you. >> new details of that crash. german newspaper says it obtained the flight voice recorder transcripts and says the co-pilot repeatly suggested to the pilot that he leave the

cabin and lock him out. the captain banged on the door trying to get back in but he jammed it closed. zillionly sullenberger talks about pilot training. >> about 75% have been military trained aviators. that means they have been through a rigorous very structured and disciplined screening process. and then they have been screened a sect time to be hired as airline pilots. >> lubitz may have been suffering from -- the crash of the german wings flight it has renewed the debate over whether to install cameras. that idea was first proposed back in 2000 by the ntsb. some argue that cameras could be very critical. the airline pilots association says current voice and data

recorders they are sufficient. also the faa has said there is not enough compelling evidence to mandate cameras in the cockpit. investigators say an air canada jet hit antennas that is part of the landing system before making a hard landing and skidding off the runway. it happened in snowy conditions as a flight from toronto was attempting to land. the landing gear was torn off when it hit the large antenna array. >> when it hit that everything flashed and big piece of steal or something come up through the floor. we all hit the -- we all hit our heads. we thought we were goners. amazingly most of the injuries are minor. 25 people were treated. all but one have been released from the hospital.

the san francisco based stub hub is suing the golden state warriors and ticket master. stub hub the ticket reseller says the warriors and ticket master conspired to create an illegal resale market. stub hub is claiming the warriors have told warriors they will have their tickets revoked if they sell through anything other than nba exchange. warriors say they have a team policy. they don't make a comment about legal matters. it is now 6:10. more than 76,000w wwe fans filled levi stadium. the records broken by wrestle mania and what was seen as a test. >> the legal battle over thest tape tate of actor robin williams. the personal items right at the heart of a court hearing in san francisco this morning. >> good morning. we are looking at the east bay

welcome back to mornings on 2. a nine-year-old boy recovering from head injuries he fell off a cliff in sonoma

county. he was playing near a trail of fort ross. he fell 40 feet down on to jagged cliffs. he managed somehow to climb halfway back up the rocky slope but fell back down again. another 20 feet. rescuers say by the time they got there people had already come around and brought the boy up. he was flown by helicopter to children's hospital in oakland. now this is the second time a child was injured in a fall along the sonoma county coast in the past six months. you remember back in november four-year-old sebastian johnson fell more than 200 feet off a cliff. he spent more than two months at the hospital before finally being released. former hewlett pac card ceo says there is a higher than 90% chance she will run for president. >> i have a deep understanding of how the economy actually works. i understand executive decision making which is making tough calls in tough times with high stakes for which you are

prepared to be held accountable. >> the republican is eyeing the gop nomination saying she will make an announcement in late april or early may. of course she might be running against hillary clinton. questioning clinton's personal views of e-mail and secretary of state. the legal battle over the estate of actor robin williams heads to court. they will appear later today in a san francisco court. the two sides are arguing over who gets his clothing and other personal items that he kept at one of his northern california homes. his widow susan williams says his children zach, zelda and cody took memorabilia and clothing including his academy award without her permission. the plan to officially name

the tunnel just north of the golden gate bridge in honor on robin williams is a big step closer to reality. this is what the new resurrected continental will look like. it doesn't look like your grandpas car anymore. it has a smaller rectangle grill. hidden door handles. it dates back to the 1930s but ford stopped producing it. they hope the new continental will invigorate the lincoln brand in the u.s.. but they expect most of the car

the traffic is also slow at the toll plaza. i want to mention that because it is backed up from about 580 or so. up to now. and it's backed up for a 15-20 minute delay. something that is no joke and this would be the drive time on 580 and grant line and the 680 interchange. almost an hour. you see 59 minutes and that is because of an earlier crash. please give yourself extra time. i know it's always slow. today is much, much slower. 6:18 let's go to steve. was nelson gone? >> he is coming in there to bug you now. >> had no idea. thank you, sir. we do have a little change today. gosh i hope so. we're you're setting record setting warmth in january, february, and march it makes people think oh my goodness what is summer going to be like? some of the record highs yesterday 85 in livermore. 77 mountain view. 86 record setting degrees. average high should be 66.

we'll go 76. that is down from yesterday. san francisco 62. 67 oakland airport. san jose should be checking in at 67. today it will be 77 degrees. that is an interesting week here. at least something different. cool and clear and patchy fog. high clouds to the north. mostly sunny by this afternoon. cooler and windy on tuesday into wednesday and a big change by the weekend. some of that fog is popping up here. filling in on monterey bay it looks like it will take a turn there. this system right there is going to move across as tuesday and wednesday. the end result will be a lot of clouds, cooler, and windy pattern. get a northwest wind on the coast that will help with the out welling. 40s and 50s on your current temps. two above bodega bay. about 2-4 degrees outside the

bay. inside running 3-5 above. still on the mild side. i bet we cool down a little bit. west sfo at 12. that should beat out the east wind at hayward airport. 50s and 60s through the interior. 20s up in the mountain or 32 in tahoe. 57 warm degrees at blue canyon. a few high clouds to the north. today is a little cooler but tomorrow will be a lot cooler. we'll take that into wednesday. a little rebound thursday and friday. a little system dropping down from the gulf of alaska by the weekend. i know. don't see that anymore but there are signs of it. today will be all right. 60nd and 70s and 80s. but coming down a little bit. still an 80 in clearlake. novato 76. 80 antioch and brentwood.

welcome back. crashed early this morning. the van ran a stop sign, traveled across four lanes of the highway and ran into a watery ditch. ten people also were hurt. officials have not released the name of the victims. powerful earthquake rattled new guinea. struck off the coast of papa new guinea. there have been no reports of injuries but they measured a

one inch tsunami wave 280 miles from the quakes epicenter. papa new guinea lies on the ring of fire. time is 6:25. a somer by through the to -- a somber tribute to 32 californians that lost their live during the vietnam war. 74 men died on board the uss frank e. evans. a navy destroyer. while california honored those men in sacramento, it's a different story in washington, d.c. where you can't find their names on the wall of the vietnam veteran's memorial. >> the navy and the department of defense's position on this is that this ship, this tragedy at sea happened outside of the official combat zone for vietnam. >> with california adding 22 names, that should send a message back to washington,

d.c.. >> ironically the ship that sank was awarded a vietnam service medal even though the pentagon has not recognize the the war sacrifice of the men died. a california woman has reclaimed her father's long lost purple hot medal thanks to a dog that likes to dig. smuckers dug up army corporal richmond litman's medal. it wasn't until a woman saw a story on the news that she realized that medal belonged to her father. smuckers handed over the medal yesterday during a special ceremony. >> see his name on the back and just to know when he was alive he held it in hiss hand. and to know i'm holding it in mine is a wonderful feeling. and i will honor this purple heart as long as i live.

cooling off starting today. >> steve says his clicker is right here. >> can i hand it to you? >> sure. >> you want us to try that again? go ahead. >> steve, how is the weather? >> why do you ask? it looks like a change is brewing. we have a little change after yesterday's very warm weekend and in fact, record setting. a little bit of patchy fog is forming off the coast and there will be a few high clouds but we'll see temperatures coming down a little bit even though they will still be above average. san francisco starting off 52. we'll go for a high of 67. mostly sunny in napa. temperatures still very warm. there are changes brewing as i say. a little bit of fog forming. this system will work its way toward us tonight and tomorrow and pick up a pretty good breeze later on tuesday and wednesday. 40s and 50s to start. west wind at sfo at 12. i think that will win out over time. up in the mountains 20s and

30s. very warm air aloft. look for a little cooler pattern today. 60s and 70s and a couple very low 80s. >> that is where most of the slow traffic is right now. starting off with trying to get into san francisco from the east bay. it is backed up for a 15-20 minute delay which is not too bad. i wish i could say the same about the dublin grade. we had an earlier accident. really messed things up. it is taking more than an hour. through the 680 interchange opinion usually it takes 30-40 minutes. we're almost a double and then 680 will be slow if you expect someone at your workplace from this commute either they left the house early or going to be late. it is just one of those days. let's move along and take a look at the 280 commute. northbound 280 traffic is moderate. 101 and 85 are getting crowded. northbound 101 university avenue off ramp there is a stalled big rig.

let's go back to the desk. it has been more than two days since anyone has seen or heard from a popular ux c berkeley -- uc berkeley soccer player. now his family and friends worry something bad happened to eloi vasquez. vasquez's friends. live from berkeley i'm tara moriarty back if you. >> we'll talk to you later, thank you. one of the people seriously hurt in a deadly weekend crash west of santa rosa is a well known musician. the crash happened saturday night when the driver of a subaru outback turned into the path of ongoing -- the passenger in the car and the man riding on the back of the motorcycle remain in critical condition. the cars passenger 72-year-old norman greenbaum a singer, song writer best known for his 1969 hit spirit in the sky. >> it was terrifying for a couple in san jose. they watched a thief drive off with their suv and their eight- month-old baby was inside. miguel and elizabeth say they loaded their baby in their jeep to go to the park yesterday morning. they went inside for about 20 seconds. when they came back out they saw a woman driving off with

their car. miguel says he jumped into another car to try to chase down that thief. luckily it took police officers just a couple minutes to find the suv. it was left in a neighborhood right around the corner inside little baby was in there crying but safe. miguel says the woman tried to run away but police tracked her down and placed her under arrest. wrestle mania fans took over levi stadium for a block buster event that came from all over the country and around the world. janine de la vega is in santa clara where all of those fans set a record. i had no idea it was this popular. >> i didn't either. my photographer george here was telling me how big this event is and we definitely saw that. it was a huge success here at levi stadium. not only for the stadium, but also for surrounding

businesses. i was on the phone with the hillton and the hyatt. both were sold over the weekend. they even held a tailgate party to capitalize on the visitors coming here. wrestle mania is the super bowl for wwe and it shattered records. it was the highest grossing event for wwe and broke the attendance record at levi stadium. attracting more than 77,000 fans. the stadium was packed and traffic around it was congested. even with people using public transportation and coming several hours early. 49ers management is reviewing how things went because it's really a good opportunity for them to learn to improve traffic flow, visitor experience, and parking for super bowl 50 which will be held at levi stadium next february. the south bay will see a huge boost to the economy then and it did this time around. it's estimated the south bay raked in $100 million in

revenue. again. so a huge event wrestle mania as you heard happening over the weekend. and it's not over. some wrestling fans are staying because there is another event being held at the sap center tonight. so again a lot of excitement around here. >> that is for sure. thank you janine. 6:37 is the time. also a lot of excitement over a running race more than 8,000 people ran their way through the streets of san francisco over the weekend for the rock and roll half marathon. that event kicked off early yesterday morning on the great highway. more than 13-mile journey went through the presidio, over the golden gate bridge, ended at the civic center plaza and inspiring runner in this race adrian bro coo. he lost 95% of his vision and ran the half marathon in one hour and 30 minutes thanks to a fellow runner that helped him to navigate the race. >> even though you might face

welcome back to mornings on 2. a gut wrenching moment caught on camera as a fresno fire captain fell through the roof of a burning garage. you can seat 25-year veteran that has not yet been

identified. he is walking along the roof where it suddenly collapsed. neighbors watched in horror. >> once they extracted the firefighter out of the garage to remove his clothes, douse him with water. as they took the uniform off, he was burned from head to toe. >> the fire captain is in critical condition with burns on most of his body. doctors say many more surgeries are going to be needed before the full extent of his injuries are known. no one else was hurt in that fire. time is 6:43. two bodies have been found in the rubble of last weeks building explosion in new york city. now we still don't know the names of the victims but authorities believe they are the two people reported missing after thursday's explosion. both were in a sushi restaurant. three buildings collapsed, four others were damaged. notions over iran's nuclear

program are down. the group of negotiators have a self-imposed deadline of march 31st. just yesterday iran backed away from a key part of a deal saying it would not be willing to send a large portion of its stockpile to russia. ha is a reversal of an earlier agreement. the march 31st deadline is to reach a basic deal. the deal for a deadline for a final agreement is june 30th. there is new information that the nsa actually considered abandoning its secret phone surveillance program. according to the associated press, some intelligence officials at the nsa wanted to drop the program because they thought the cost out weighed the benefits. despite criticism, the nsa continues to collect and store phone record for use in terrorism investigations. however the law that allows such collection is due to expire in june. we are learning this morning that personal

information including the passport numbers of president obama and 19 other world leaders was accidentally released. according to the guardian they had gathered the sensitive information for last years g-20 summit. a department spokesperson says the information was not passed along to anyone else and it was immediately destroyed. roller coaster riders got a lot more than they expected during the opening day of new york's kony island amusement park. the famous cyclone roller coaster got people stuck. you can see the passengers slowly climbing out of the ride and gradually making their way down the track. believe it or not everyone got down safely. the operators say the ride has been tested several times leading up to the season opener. they are still trying to figure out what went wrong.

together. >> officer moynihan is credited with saving a transit officer. later today prosecutors are expected to wrap up the first phase of their case against accused boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. the same jury that considers 30 charges against tsarnaev will hear additional evidence during the trial's second phase to determine if he is convicted and whether he will be sentenced to death or life in prison. three people were killed, more than 260 were hurt in that april 2013 explosion at the boston marathon finish line. a peaceful march and vigil will be held in san francisco today to protest the archbishop controversial morality clause for catholic schoolteachers. under fire for requiring father local catholic high schools to adopt new guidelines that condemn homosexuality and birth
