criminal cases are now under review. ktvu's david stevenson explains. this is the latest in -- for them. >> the third scandal to hit san francisco law enforcement this month and prompting an ought of 1400 cases -- an audit of 1400 cases involving dna cases. >> reporter: the san francisco police department crime lab is at the center of another investigation. they are under scrutiny for errors in a case involving a child molestation suspect. >> i can tell you errors were related to a measuring test. looking to do a complete audit and any work her supervisor approved. >> reporter: 1400 cases in all. the crime lab is seeking

resatisfaction and investigators reveal -- recertification and investigators reveal she funked a basic test. >> they found the test was valid. >> reporter: we requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," nfl senior vice president of communications greg aiello said. "that video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until racist and homophobic text messages sent by deputies and that officers organized inmate fights. >> the levels of the problems and the frequency that we are facing today are unusual. >> reporter: the district attorney announced he formed a task force to investigate each scandal. even that was met with skepticism. >> many people are recommending many things. it is also an election year. we are a great police department. >> reporter: the chief says the review of the 1400 cases is expected to take 4-6 weeks. they are on paid personal leave

and the chief said when they return they won't be working on dna cases. >> all right. david s live tonight -- david stevenson live tonight in san francisco, thank you. the family of a man killed by police filed a claim against the department and the city. october 7 police shot and killed him near at&t park. authorities claims officers ordered him to drop a gun, he refused and that is when an officer opened fire but family said his hands were on the steering wheel. officers from around the country are expected to attend this week's memorial service for slain san jose police officer officer michael johnson. officer michael johnson was shot as he responded to a call tuesday night. he was just 38 years old. married and served with the san jose police department for 14 years. the memorial service is now scheduled for thursday morning

seat but she struggled and asape scaped -- and escaped. >> the story is similar to two other attempted kidnappings. all three description appear to be similar and each were driving a white car. it is possible the cases are linked and there are similarities between the victims, short with brown hair walking alone. each of the attacks happened on a friday. >> could happen to anybody. we would like people to walk home together from school. kids to walk home together. be careful. >> makes me nervous because it is, like, i walk around by myself. >> reporter: police can't say for certain if the same seman involved but -- same man is involved but they are doing everything possible to take him off the streets. no one was available to meet with us today because they are out on spring break but when
