another security breach at san jose international airport. a woman is arrested after authorities say she apparently scaled a fence and walked right across the airfield and the runways. good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. it's happened again, an intruder slipped past a perimeter fence and made their way into a restricted area. we get the developing news now from ktvu's maureen naylor she's live at the airport and tell us an arrest was made and the suspect a woman is now behind bars. maureen. >> reporter: julie, the police tell me that the woman jumped the fence here along the southwest portion of the airport. which is the new earthquake stadium side of the airport.

and this happened around 5:15 tonight. they then say she managed to walk across the airfield and across the runways before she was spotted by a ups employee on the other side. i'm standing on one side. i want to show you video from the other side. gate 118 where police say the woman was found walking in a restricted area. which is the southwest cargo area near where ups has its operations. now police say the woman was not cooperative and she was arrested by san jose police for trespassing and resisting arrest. police are not releasing her identity but say she is young. this marks the fifth security breach in san jose in the past year alone. at least one passenger tonight says it maybes him nervous. >> it does make me uneasy as a traveler. i work for fedex in hawaii. and they're very careful on the cargo side and perhaps they need to be doing those preventative measures like

doing testing like tsa or other faa safety things. >> reporter: airport officials say they will be reviewing security procedures and say they're already in review mode from past breaches. they say some changes have been made since past breaches but they can't disclose what exactly because of security purposes. they do say they will be looking into surveillance cameras to review this latest incident. today i spoke to congressman wallow who says he is bothered by the breach and -- swalwell. >> the technology does exist. i've been calling for a year now for every airport to use this system. >> reporter: the woman has been booked into the santa clara county jail where they're trying to determine her i.d. at this point.

it's unclear why she was on the runway. >> maureen does that fence behind you have barb wire? >> this fence is 10 feet tall to include the fence and barb wire. you can see it goes straight across here. at other portions of the fence it may circle around. when i spoke to officials they say this airport is up to guidelines and even stricter in some cases. the airport has been under scrutiny because of past breaches but there is a fence that surrounds the airport at this point. >> maureen naylor at san jose airport for us tonight, maureen, thank you. more developing news tonight. the death of an air to the getty air fortune. andrew getty is the son of anne and gordon getty. andrew getty was found dead in his home. police are investigating and

they call his death suspicious. jana katsuyama is live with reaction to his death. >> reporter: the getty family has issued a statement tonight asking the media for privacy as they mourn. they did confirm this death and there are many people who are mourning with them here in san francisco's performing arts community. which had very close ties to the getty family. 47-year-old andrew getty is the second son of san francisco philanthropist anne and gordon getty. a woman called police to andrew's hollywood hills home to report a cardiac arrest. authorities found him dead in a bathroom. >> the coroner is here. we're waiting for search warrants to go in and examine the body. at this point in time anything would be pure conjecture. >> reporter: the getty family issued a statement confirming their son's death. los angeles police had been to the residence dozens of types often for domestic

disturbances. many are mourning with the family. the family had been a part of politics and the arts. >> the getty family has been supporters of the san francisco opera and so many organizations for so many decades. >> reporter: gordon getty is not just a philanthropist but musician and composer who's work is said to be performed by the opera later this year. >> we're deeply mourning their loss with them. we hope they can find strength to work through this tragic time and know that the arts company are with them fullly the way they have been with us over the last decades. >> reporter: just as we were rolling that tape. we've learned in the past few minutes that los angeles police

are saying at this point they are determining this as a death due to natural causes or an accident. we're expecting to hear more details about that. again, a very tragic moment not just for the getty family but for many people here in san francisco. andrew getty was one of four sons of anne and gordon getty. >> only 47 years old. jana katsuyama, thank you. governor brown is planning to attend the snow survey tomorrow. this is pictures of the last snow survey. the snow contest is just 8% of the historical average. that's lower than any year on record dating back to 1950. last week governor brown signed emergency legislation to fast track more than $1 billion in funding for drought relief. the winter shelter program for the homeless in san jose is shutting its doors tomorrow morning. that means several hundred

people will be back out on the streets. and some told us they don't know where they'll go. four months ago the city dismantled a large encampment where some 300 people were living. it was called the jungle. mayor liccardo says he has a plan in the works. >> safe parking, providing spaces where people can park their cars and rvs and live. >> reporter: liccardo is also looking for ways to call so called microhouses with the help of donations. but first he says building codes need to be addressed. san francisco home prices are so hot now that the median selling price is just under $1 million. real estate firm red fin says the median price in february was $979,750. that's up 16% from a year ago. san jose is fast approaching the million mark with a median price of 942,000. in oakland the median price is

up but it's still under 600,000. the real estate listing service trullia said recently that only 15% of the homes in san francisco are now within reach of middle class buyers. a motorcyclists and a bicyclist were seriously hurt this afternoon after colliding near san leandro. it happened at around 5:00 in bay fair mall. witnesses tell highway patrol officers a bicyclist was making a u turn on the roadway when he was struck by the motorcyclists who was going through the intersection. both men were taken to eden medical center. investigators say it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor. in oakland, police say a driver being chased by police crashed into another car at about 5:30 tonight. it happened at 37th and mark. the suspect then took off running. prompting police to set up a perimeter and search the area. our cameras spotted one person detained in the back of a patrol car but it's unclear if he was arrested. the innocent driver in the other car was taken away by

ambulance. we still don't know the extent of the injury. also in oakland, there's new evidence tonight that efforts to stem drug crime may be working. shot fire is the company that makes equipment to pinpoint gunfire. cara liu live in oakland has the statistics and why the county admits it is not easy. >> reporter: it does include smart policing, community collaboration and technology. officers in oak lands use shot spotter technology to help fight crime. >> what happens is when there's gunfire in the city. shot spotter will pick up the activity. the number of gunshots, and it all displays on our map exactly where the shots are coming from. >> reporter: shot fire is

designed to trigger on shots. >> it show that is eight rounds were shot in the middle of the street. at this certain location. you can actually play back the audio from the shooting. >> reporter: police say they typically get alerts before 911 calls come in. >> with that response time, it makes it a lot easier for us to respond and possibly capture someone involved in gunfire. >> reporter: new data from shot spotter shows a median reduction in gunfire rates to 28.8% in over 2 dozen cities that use the technology. in oakland the company reports a 26% reduction in gunfire incidents. >> we still have way too much gun violence. i think it's good news that we're seeing declines. we like to believe that we're a part of those declines. but again, gun violence is very complicated and you will never hear our company say that we're solely responsible. >> reporter: some east bay residents had questions about privacy.

fought back against discrimination between gays and lesbians. >> had this law discriminate anyone i would have vetoed it. >> reporter: but the law has drawn criticism. ceos from nine big companies including sales force sent pence a letter blasting the bill with others promising to boycott the state. and today, cuomo and shaft banned travel to indiana. >> i want them to repeal the law. >> reporter: but a repeal does not seem likely. that's disappointing to gay rights bay area leaders.

they want indiana to adopt a nondiscrimination law to protect lgbt citizens. >> those laws exist in other states and they should exist in indiana. you wouldn't have this kind of situation that the governor is dealing with. >> reporter: while kwraeupbd that looks to -- while indiana looks to modify its law, another state has passed a similar legislature. that bill goes to the senate's republican governor and frank and julie he has said he plans to sign it. >> reporter: and the ceo of wal- mart already warning him not to sign it. the backlash has begun. police are looking for a man on a bicycle who groped a woman. it happened yet on howard avenue and industrial road in an area where there's plenty of stores. the victim, an 18-year-old woman was walking to a friend's home when a man in a bicycle passed by and groped her. authorities identify that man

as a latino around 30 years old. police are investigating a collision between a police car and another car. the officer was taken to the hospital but officials say he was not seriously hurt. the other driver is said to be okay. at a neighborhood meeting tonight in oakland, residents had a chance to learn about plans for a large and valuable piece of undeveloped property. the former naval hospital sits on 580 and the oakland zoo. a developer plans to build hundreds of homes, townhouses and apartments there. >> reporter: since the old naval hospital was imploded it's been all quiet. it's one of the last big undeveloped pieces of land in the near east bay.

a golden eagle is being cared for. the bird was found injured and sick and is now being cared for at the wildlife center. >> reporter: the wildlife center seems to learn more about this bird than most who check in. >> reporter: that's right, they know how old she is and they know exactly where she's been. that's because before this eagle was injured she was part of a project that tracked her every move. beyond this door at lindsay wildlife hospital there's no talking. but behind the sheets. >> i'm checking how the bird responds to light and shadow on

she was kidnapped for ransom. two days later, she turned up unharmed at her father's house in huntington beach. >> why would the kidnappers just put them out of their house. >> reporter: residents near the island home don't know what to believe. >> we wanted to know who are these criminals. we just wanted to see the end of this story. >> reporter: police have remained quiet on this case all day. whatever happened here it is now an fbi cyber investigation. in vallejo, i'm john sasaki, ktvu fox 2 news. today was a special day for 11 formally incarcerated men and women in oakland who are getting their lives back on track. an organization called boss celebrated the first ever prep graduation. that stands for partners in reentry employment. the graduates went through a comprehensive six month work program and have now all landed new jobs. prep worked in partnership with the probation department and other community groups. >> that's great stuff. saving money while saving

reports that a phone was found. but the faa says the report is wrong. they say cell phones have been found but no video has been found. 49-year-old fire captain pete durham suffered third and fourth degree burns over 75% of their body. the moment this was captured on video. you see captain durham fall right through the roof there. the captain fire chief says durham is still in critical condition but says durham recognized family during a visit this morning and is responding. durham will undergo his first of many planned surgeries tomorrow. and city workers held a noisy protest before today's council meeting.

they voiced their frustration to city council members about the lack of full time positions with benefits. we spoke with one woman who said she's been trying to turn her part time librarian position to full time for years. >> they're basically saving money by hiring three part time workers. >> reporter: brooks supported the workers protest and said the city should create a department of race and equity to ensure fair treatment for all workers. two san francisco bars are doing their part to save water while giving their customers a discount. the bars are offering $1 discounts for drinks that don't use ice. that would include beer, wine and shots. one of the owners tells us she's trying to raise awareness about water use and save water at the same time. a bar can use about 300 pounds

of ice for every 100 customers. and tonight there's good news about a long time san francisco restaurant that was at risk of closing. the owners of caps corner in north beach have reached a lease agreement with the owner of the building. tom genela and his wife operated without a lease for years but they need one now to bring in a new partner. they reportedly signed the eight year lease on monday. on wall street, stocks were down today. the dow dropped 200 points. the nasdaq dropped 36 and the s & p dropped 18. analysts say investors are starting to worry about first quarter earnings that will be released in the next week. the ferry to alcatraz may be moving. the debate over where thousands of tourists should line up each day. the tough new rules being proposed to have tour bus drivers put down the microphone and focus on the road. plus meteorologists rosemary orozco with your easter weekend forecast.

would not make sense in my position. >> reporter: if passed, supporters hope to take it statewide. in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. the national park service hosted a meeting in san francisco tonight to give community members a chance to discuss a proposal to move the place where you catch the ferry to alcatraz to a different place. talk of moving the terminal is now creating a lot of debate. the existing terminal at pier 33 along the embarcadero is the preferred site in an environmental report because it requires minimal construction. others are moving to fort mason or back to the previous site at pier 41. we talked to one swimmer who is concerned about recreation around port mason. >> there's particularly 40 people swimming around that area. in the morning and around pier three. we call it around port mason.
