homeless man, a police released a video, and they're searching for the attacker. >> the two men may have known each other and may have had prior contact and it happened right here when the man was attacked. >> i heard the noise and there was a thump and that was the gay hitting the guy's head. >> the video is disturbing, he was very friendly, he was sitting in his usual spot on a bucket in already kin street. a man in a blue shirt pulls out what appears to be a pipe and he strikes the victim and the man goes limp as the pipe goes out of the suspect's hands and he walks down the street and passes people without looking back. >> the man got 50 stitches in his head. there is video that shows him walking past the man several times. although this is a disturbing incident, things happen like that out here all too often.

>> they step over there and they step over there, that body over in the alley, this place is really getting worse here. >> now, here's another look at the suspect, police say he's 20 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches tall with dark hair, cut short on the sides. if caught, the suspect could face murder charges and once again, police say if you know anything about this case to give them a call. tori. >> paul chambers live for us in san francisco. meanwhile san francisco firefighters say an elderly man was killed in an apartment fire last night in north beach. they received an emergency call on a fire in columbus avenue near san francisco street at 10pm, they saw heavy smoke coming from a third floor apartment? >> apartment. >> that i made their way up the stairwell, and smoke conditions advanced in the apartment and they extinguished the fire. >> firefighters say they pulled

out an elderly man from the apartment and he was unconscious near a there are near a couch with oxygen tanks nearby and they were unable to revive him. a second elderly person in the apartment was alert and will be okay. the cause of the fire is still not known. this is the latest deadly fire this year. other cases include a father and his 13-year-old girl who were killed last month when their mission district apartment went up in flames. the teenager was in a hospital for a week before she died from her injuries. and in january, a man died in that massive building apartment fire in the mission district. concerns are rising about building safety and responses in the neighborhood. they're trying to increase building inspections. our time #:05, former santa clara supervisor, they'll find out if he's going to jail for

campaign fraud. he'll be sentenced after pleading no contest after filing a campaign mailer. he admitted in court documents that he committed a campaign flier and insinuated an opponent was a communist sympathizer, he said would he get community service and not jail if he accepted responsibility for the crime. disciplinary action expected for three san francisco police officers accused of ex changing homophobic and racist text messages. we learned that the police chief will announce that three officers will be suspended. we're joined outside from police headquarters. good morning christine a you have more information. >> reporter: good morning, we have more information. it was a shock, when they first came out they were accused of receiving homophobic and racist text messages and they're

expected to talk to the media today and it may bring a close to this internal investigation. we already know that they have signed questions today interacting with the public. we found that a fourth officer accused in this scandal resigned on his own accord and he is the 23 year veteran of the force. it was discovered that a group of officers were allegedly sending and receiving homophobic and text messages immediately. three remaining officers are the only ones being looked at right now. we're down to 3, but this is what we're expecting to hear from, they could be suspended, this is what they had to say earlier this week about the investigation. >> i believe that i will have those responsible for these horrendous texts identified by the end of the week, there will be suspensions coming and any of them i'll refer to the

a large fire. most of it as you can see right now, is heavy thick dark smoke pouring out of this location. it's unclear what caused the fire but the building has been evacuated. there are reports, the building where the fire started housed various electrical systems. the building we understand is a total loss, on average about 13 appliances are shipped from this site every minute. everyone is trying to figure outer how to do their part for water restrictions. there are flow restriction stores for faucets and shower heads that can save gallons of a day and low flow toilets can cut 8 gallons of water off your daily use. >> we need to become more refined with water saving, they've gotten it down to 1.5

some are calling a true miracle, a sailor who was lost at sea for 66 days has been found alive. this is the video of a coast guard met vac crew and it was off the coast of north carolina. the crew of that ship rescued him yesterday after he was spotted floating on a capsized sailboat, he went out fishing back in january, but his boat lost its mast and capsized and he did everything he could to stay alive. >> he was also fishing with the net, and collecting rain water and so he was just rationing the food he had and making the best of it. >> after reaching land, jordan was escorted to a hospital, the coast guard said he injured his shoulder and it was dehydrated, everything was fine, he saw it walking on his own power. they abandoned their efforts after 10 days.

change, the man punched him and took his money. 35 police cadettes from the oakland police academy will graduate. they're trying to increase the number of police on the force. the number of police who graduated from the academy reached a four-year high. they're looking for recruits and today is the deadline to turn in application force the next academy class. the new employment numbers were released. there was the first time in 12 months the job gains were below 2,000 only 126,000 jobs were added in march. the unemployment rate remained the same at 5.5%, growth has been impacted by winter weather and factory shutdowns this year. the port of oakland says operations almost back to normal after that very bitter labor dispute.

customers to adopt more efficient amainses and fixtures. >> what'sing it to be the biggest impact on the public, i'm curious about things like firefighting and being able to grow food and agriculture and produce. >> everybody is going to have to chip in and we're likely to see more fires in california, when we have droughts we have fires. we're likely to see cutbacks for agriculture certainly, they followed around 400,000 acres last year which is about 5% of the irrigated fan in california. we're likely to see more following this year. california farmers are smart and innovative, they'll find ways to adapt and they've been making innovative movements. >> i find it encouraging, we're in a serious situation and there are things we can do to help. what can we do? >> there are a lot of things we
