make. >> reporter: good afternoon. he told me he will also talk about others facing discipline as well. these texts first surfaced in the wake of being sentenced on federal corruption charges. a total of five officers were at the center of the investigation. they were disarmed and reassigned away from public contact. one has since resigned and the chief said he wants the others fired. we expect to hear others may face disciplinary action. they say it shows more police training the needed. >> we have to vet officers. we don't have officers who hold racist views that will endanger themselves and the public and provide training on a constant bias. >> reporter: discipline is not the only thing the chief is expected to brief us on. he is expected to brief us on

the crime lab especially some errors made in dna testing that are prompting the review of at least 1400 criminal cases. >> all right. thank you. today the oakland police department welcomed 35 new officers. [ cheers and applause ] >> the graduation ceremony was held this morning at the scottish rite center. officers received their badges. the oakland police department says it has 724 sworn officers. the sworn officers will begin field training. family members say they are proud to see their loved ones join the force. >> when i found out he was coming to the academy to go to oakland i thought oh, my gosh, the worst of the worst. he can handle it. he has done four years in the service and went through his

boot camp. he will be fine. >> the oakland police department says it is still looking for more recruits. today is the deadline to turn in applications for the next academy class that starts at the end of april. san francisco police want help in identifying a suspect hitting a homeless man in the head with a metal type. some might find this video difficult to watch. the man was in his usual sitting on a bucket. you can see a man in a blue shirt pull out a pipe and strike the homeless man in the head. she in intensive care after getting more than 50 stitches. >> when you see an act so blatant and so raw like this it's uncalled for. in san francisco we would like to send a strong message for anybody who visits our city that if you attack the homeless there will be a consequence.

>> the owner of a near by business says the victim is well known and hangs around the area. police say if the attacker was caught he will face attempted murder chargesment. the bomb squad has blown up a suspicious package. the bomb squad responded to stockton avenue this morning at 7:45. that's near the college park cal tran station. it appears it contained batteries wrapped in tape with wires exposed. all of the streets in that area have now reopened. a six alarm fire still burning at a warehouse in kentucky. it started at general electrics appliance park in kentucky. an alert was issued within a

half mile area due to the smoke. about 200 firefighters are battling the flames. it is the offices and storage. a production has come to a halt. the cause of the fire is not yet known. it is 234 san francisco's north beach neighborhood. the fire started around 10:00 p.m. in a four story apartment building. >> they made their lead into the building up the center stairwell, had smoken cans in the hallway, advanced into the apartment and extinguished a fire.

firefighters say the building did have fire alarms but no sprinkler system. this is the most recent fatal fire. it includes the death of his father and 13-year-old daughter killed last month concerns arising about building safety and fire department responses in the neighborhood. the city says it is trying to increase building inspections. we are waiting to hear the sentence for a deceptive campaign mailer. he pleaded no contest to one felony count in the case. he was expected to receive a sentence of community service but there's been a delay in the courtroom.

observers believe the flier helped a political ally win a san jose counsel election by suggesting it was a communist sizer. he spent seven months in jail. police hoping to track down two men accused of beating and robbing a taxi driver. the driver says he picked up two men last saturday morning. he later dropped them off where one of the men paid the fair. as the driver was making change the man punched him and took all of his money. san francisco police searching for a female hit-and-run driver. one of those cars ended up crashes into a garage near scott and fell streets yesterday. one of the cyclists was thrown

20 feet and suffered serious injuries. the other two were treated at the scene. a neighbor says he saw the whole thing. >> there was a white car. it ran into the gray car which ran into the house which pinned two bicyclists over to the left and one guy over here to the right. >> that witness says people tried to tell the driver to stop but she sped off in her black jeep cherokee. they have her license plate number so it's likely just a matter of time before they find her. a 68-year-old oakland man is still alive even after a house collapse on top of him. it is being called the miracle on 46th street. >> the house fell down. do you believe that? >> he is known as bubba and was sleeping when the house collapsed. neighbors pulled him out of the

rubble. he didn't have a scratch. he says a television created a space that kept him from being crushed. that was not the only frightening thing. >> yesterday i got bit by a dog, a pit bull. today a house fell on me. >> >> reporter: what do you think to look at that now? >> thank god. he is definitely real. >> it's not clear why the house collapsed. the owner let him stay there while it was being remodeled. he is looking far new place to stay. offering free tuition for more students. incomes up to $125,000 a year will not be expected to contribute any tuition. tuition alone costs more than $45,000 a year and those with incomes under $65,000 a year will not get just free tuition

the plane plunged towards if french alps. he repeatedly adjusted the auto pilot to speed up the plane. he deliberately locked the pilot out of the cockpit out of the crash. all 150 people on board were killed. the u.s. and the negotiating partners have reached the frame work on iran's nuclear program. president obama is saying it could result in making the u.s. and world safer. however as doug reports congress may see things differently. >> this is going to be the next big hurdle for the white house, convincing congress to lay low over the next few weeks while the final details of this agreement is worked out. no indication that congress is going to play along. iran's foreign minister receives a hero's welcome. he scored a decisive victory. this is not an image that is going to help the white house.

president obama had a clear warning for members of the congress who want to stand in the way. >> if congress kills this deal without offering any reasonable alternative then it's the united states that will be blamed for the failure. >> reporter: the president argues that the deal is good for everyone. iran gets relief from sanctions that have crippled the country's economy. it will take longer for them to develop a nuclear bomb. they will have to submit to inspections. many of their facilities will remain open including one deep in a bunker seen as serving no peaceful purpose. >> none of those include closing any of our facilities. the proud people of iran will never accept that. >> it's like saying i get to keep it because i want it for

convicted. they's looked at isis propaganda online. some say it's a true miracle. a sailor lost at sea for 66 days has been found alive. this is the coast guard lifts jordan from a tanker ship off the coast of north carolina. the crew rescued him yesterday after they spotted him floating on a capsized sailboat. some how the boat lost its cast and capsized. he did everything he could. >> he was fishing with a net and correcting rainwater -- collecting rainwater. he was rash shopping the food he had and making the best of it. >> the coast guard says he injured his shoulder and was dehydrated but otherwise he was fine. they abandoned the efforts after ten days. his family says they are overjoyed to have him back

especially in time for easter. flash floods kept rescue crews busy in kentucky overnight. crews say they have made more than 100 water rescues since 1:00 this morning. rising waters trapped people in their cars and homes. no body has been hurt. as much as 6 inches of rain with more on the way. severe storms are predicted today across kentucky, mississippi, alabama and louisiana. not expecting that much but some rain is heading our way. good afternoon. >> yeah. you're right. thankfully some rain in the forecast, a bit of unfortunate noise coming for easter sunday. we won't complain though. it is another fair water day around the bay area. abundant sunshine from the coast around the bay and inland. temperatures similar to yesterday. mostly sunny skies, light winds in store for today. the ridge of high pressure remains in control of our

weather pattern for at least one more day. here is storm tracker showing you no clouds to speak of. we have to go over the pacific to see some of these clouds. this is the system that will bring us rain getting into sunday. the cooling trend will begin tomorrow. more cloud cover by the afternoon but it looks like an event. it will last into monday and tuesday. saturday looks to be dry. a little bit of cloud cover and cool temperatures for your saturday. by sunday morning take a look at what's going on here. we have rain over parts of the north bay. it will roll south. between 6:00 a.m. and noontime it looks like the bay area will have the best chance of getting some of that rain. this is a cold system. the sierra finally going to get a decent amount of snow. perhaps a foot for some of the luckier spots. we are not talking about easter
