fans of the golden state warriors crowd into oracle arena tonight for the final game of the team's most successful season ever. and now, it's time for the

playoffs. good evening, i'm julie haener. >> i'm frank somerville. the warriors are just moments away from ending their regular season tonight. they have the best record in the nba. which means home court advantage throughout the playoffs. also, we now know they're going to be playing new orleans in the first round. team coverage, beginning with amber lee outside oracle arena, where it's fan appreciation night before the serious business of the playoffs begins. >> reporter: the excitement is at a fever pitch. this isn't the first time the warriors is made it into the playoffs, but this is considered to be the most talented team, and fans tell me, it just doesn't get any better than this. the golden state warriors are more golden than ever. a dream season. a cold out crowd tonight of more than 19,000. a season of many new records including one for most home victories in franchise history.

it? they best the world champs from san antonio. anthony davis, the slam. you can feel they're vibe. jrue holiday, his brother, justin, who plays on the warriors hits a buzzer beater. their momentum continues into the 4th quarter. about 1:30 left, davis hits a jumper for the pelicans. he had 39 points. ups the lead to 9. earning a postseason pass. some would say a postseason pass to get fed to the warriors, as you see the final there, a lot of happy faces in new orleans. but game 1, saturday at the oracle. that will be at 12:30, a rather unusual start. game 2, monday. a more appropriate start for warrior fans. 7:30 in the evening. the warriors are in the final moments of their game against the denver nuggets tonight. a game that really doesn't mean anything to them. but they're up 5 with about 50

a green car, and she had a male passenger. investigators say she tried to turn around on the dead end street, and drove toward the officers, as she tried to get away. >> one of the officers disarmed his firearm, striking the driver, as the driver had already rammed in to his police vehicle. >> reporter: the woman was taken to the hospital. police aren't releasing her name, but say she appeared to be her in 20s. the officers also obtained a male passenger, and took her away for questioning. oakland police are heading the investigation. the alameda county attorney is also planning their own investigation. workers staged a protest today in more than 250 cities nationwide, calling for an increase in the minimum wage. there were rallies in san jose, and san francisco. the largest he was in berkely. live from shaddic and university, where the protest came to an end. >> reporter: the mcdonalds was

closed in anticipation of this protest, and march that ended right here, and shut down this busy intersection for about an hour. it started with a rally at uc berkely. hundreds gathered to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour at places like mcdonald's. chris joined the march, demanding mcdonald's, and other fast food restaurants pay $15 as the minimum wage. he says he now makes $12.25. >> sometimes we have to pick out what bill you'll pay. keep the lights on, pay the rent, and you're finding what are you going to pay for food? >> reporter: the march, slow moving on its way to the nearest mcdonald's at shaddic and university. among those in the crowd, the international president of seiu. >> i came to berkely, because

it's the exclamation point on the demonstration of underpaid workers around the globe. >> reporter: it is more than just about a $15 minimum wage. the union wants to represent these fast food workers. mcdonald's has made changes in the face of these protest. on april 1, mcdonalds said it would raise the pay to $1 above the local minimum wage. but that applies to only company owned restaurants. 90% of mcdonald's 14,000 u.s. restaurants are franchises, and locally owned. the sciu argues that mcdonald's can persuade franchise owners to pay their employees more. >> mcdonald's controls every decision. they control the rent, the paper products, the food. >> reporter: he says he would be paid even less without oakland's minimum wage. he says $15 an hour is about respect. >> and become, you know, american citizens and live like i was supposed to live.

not live in poverty. >> reporter: this protest was well organized and peaceful. no incidents to report beyond the backup of traffic here in downtown berkely. >> ken pritchett live in berkely. >> reporter: right now, oakland's minimum wage is the highest in the nation at $12.25 an hour. san francisco's is set to increase to that same level on may 1. and increase annually to $15 an hour bay 2018. in san jose, the minimum wage stands at $10.30. statewide, the minimum wage is $9 an hour. it's set to rise to $10 an hour in 2016. developing news now from san jose, where one person died tonight in a house fire. these are live pictures from gene avenue near the 280 interchange with 101. officials say two people lived in the home, only one made it out. firefighters say when they arrived about 7:20, flames were coming out of the bedroom, and that unfortunately, is where they found the victim's body. investigators are now looking for a cause.

the family of a bay area construction worker devastated after that worker was killed by 8,000-pound pipe in petaluma. it happened near the new petaluma boulevard south overpass. investigators say 28-year-old jared overfield of novato was killed after a forklift operator laid down a concrete encased pipe and it broke away. overfield tried to stop the pipe as it rolled toward the highway, but it ended up crushing him. members of the family were overwhelmed as they gathered at the scene of the accident. >> by jared's this morning, i talked to the siblings so we could all be there with him. >> he was the best friend i've ever had. i'm going to miss him. >> overfield's employer released a statement saying quote, our utmost concern and

priority is to the family, for their sudden loss, and ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to them during this difficult time. the highway patrol is trying to determine what caused a deadly accident this afternoon that brought traffic to a stand still near the central avenue exit. the chp says the cyclist was struck by either a big rig, or suv or both. the truck driver swerved, the big rig overturned, crushing the suv against the sound wall. neither of those drivers were badly hurt. it took about three hours to open the scene and open all lanes to traffic. san francisco police say a homeless man is behind bars tonight, accused of attacking a 5-year-old girl for no apparent reason. he is charged with several felonies. this is his booking photo. police say the assault took place at 7:30 this morning, as the little girl was walking with her mother at union and octavia. >> this man came up to the

child, unprovoked, grabbed her by the neck, lifted her off the ground, and placed her off the side of the building. >> he was booked in the county jail, the child was treated for minor injuries to her neck and throat. it's game day at at&t park, and that means bumper to bumper traffic all down third street. the challenges police might be facing just getting out of their building. >> and i'm tracking the warm up. it did warm up today. it's going to get hot as we go into the next couple of days. >> the mystery of what happened to a huge whale that washed ashore. the decision over what to do next, and what marine mammal experts are hoping to learn.

new at 10:00, friends hold a benefit concert for a musician killed. his band was packing up their equipment after a show at the golden bowl. that's when someone started shooting down the block. nevarez and another innocent bystander were hit. his friends gathered to celebrate his love for music. >> he was doing it. living his dream. had a good job as a sound engineer, playing with his band. having a good time. >> reporter: the benefit was to raise money to provide

instruments for kids who can't afford them. now to the south bay, where tonight, the family of a young man beaten and left for dead is still looking for answers, 7 months later. >> she says her son is just learning to walk and talk again. >> reporter: calling her son, a 6'1" teddy bear, a father of two children, a mentor of troubled youth below loved to laugh. >> he would choose entertainment, probably be the next arsenio hall, in fact, that was in his yearbook. >> reporter: and he loved to take walks. september14, 49ers regular season home opener at levi stadium. the team lost to the chicago bears. after watching the game on television, his son in his 49ers jersey went walking to the store. he never made it back. he was found the following

morning, left for dead with a fractured skull, with a fractured jaw, with an injured eye, in a coma. >> reporter: hospitalized for two months. police say a victim of a robbery, attacked for no reason. >> do you believe he was targeted? he was wearing a 49ers jersey? >> again, we don't know any of the circumstances. until we can actually find witnesses, and someone that can provide us with detailed information, we don't have much to go on. >> reporter: fast forward 7 monthsment e learning to walk and talk. cloudy, all while leads have dried up. >> you look at the extensive injuries. the fact that 7 months later, the victim is still recovering from his injuries. >> reporter: she retired to take care of her son. as she questioned why, she wants justice. in a crime that almost took his

life. in a sense, it already has. >> right now, he is aware of what he lost. he is grieving, and i am as well. i can't help but be emotional when i talk about him. >> reporter: he talk one picture of this vintage car with his cell phone. the mom hopes whoever sees this photo, it will jog their memory. he will need long term care. she hopes anyone who saw this attack, or bragged about it, will call police. also in san jose, strong winds helped fuel a grass fire that quickly spread to a home. the flames broke out just before 4 this morning. crews found a shed and a fence burning near a home. firefighters fought the flame for more than an hour, but couldn't prevent the fire from spreading to the house. the home suffered significant damage and is now uninhabitable. the red cross has been called

in to help the people who live there. no injuries have been reported. in oakland, asking for the public's help, as they search for a missing woman. she was last seen yesterday about 6:00 a.m. she was near her home on 103rd avenue. she's 5 feet tall, weighs 165 pounds, and has gray hair. she's also at risk, because she suffers from dementia, and high blood pressure. looking to find out what killed a sperm whale that washed up. how the results of today's necropsy could help scientists everywhere in their studies of marine life. >> the first reports of the beached whale started coming in from pacifica tuesday. today, biologists from the academy of sciences and veterinarians began the animal equivalent of an autopsy. >> it is definitely still a mystery. that's why we have such a large team with us here today. >> reporter: first and

foremost, scientists want to see if this whale died from natural causes. >> some of the things we're concerned with, include human interaction. >> reporter: scientists say determining what killed the whale can tell them a lot. not just about this whale, but about the state of marine life in the coastal waters. >> it can give us a lot of information about the ocean at large. >> reporter: word spread quickly, and drew a crowd of interested onlookers. >> this is so upsetting. how many more are we going to see? >> reporter: many of whom were saddened to see the dead whale. >> it's just gut wrenching. just gut wrenching. >> reporter: onlookers say the sight of a dead sea lion was disturbing. >> maybe it's something with the current. >> there is something going on

off the coast. whether or not the sperm whale and the sea lion are part of a bigger picture, i can't say for sure, but that's why we're doing the work that we're doing today. >> reporter: scientists said with no observe signs of trauma, and the tissues too decayed for lab work, they'll likely never know what killed this whale. they will be working here to figure out what to do with it. ktvu fox 2 news. it was breezy out there tonight. temperatures did warm up a bit. we have a crystal clear atmosphere out there. san francisco, obviously, a live shot at the coast. there's no fog on the coast. right now, fog free, and the winds have chewed up whatever marine air was there. it's given us this crisp air quality. last night at this time, we had winds blowing 15, 20 miles per hour. right now, it's calm in oakland, novato at about 3 miles per hour. winds did top out at 20 at sfo.

right now, sfo just doing 10 miles per hour, and calm. less wind tonight. a pretty chilly overnight forecast, but not as cold as you might expect. i think most temperatures, mid- 40s. there's this big broad ridge of high pressure. here's the jet stream. see how wide it, i mean, 3,025 miles from here to here. what that tells us, tells the model, tells me, whatever kind of rain, you can't break through that. these broad ridges are really hard to get through. we are dry for this perceivable 5 day, and a little beyond that as well. we are going to be warm. no rain in this next few days, certainly next week. 44, 45 in the santa rosa area. the forecast then, the model goes no fog, it runs through there's the time, no fog. notice the oranges. those are 80s. we're going to get back into

new video released today shows the failed landing of the the space x rocket yesterday. watch as the rocket comes slowly down toward the landing pad. spacex wants to reuse the rockets to save money.

yesterday's landing was near perfect until right at the end when the rocket tipped over and exploded. an investigation now underway for a man who landed a gyrocopter on the capitol lawn today. as leyland vitter tells us, the man was a postal carrier, and he was carrying 535 special letters when he landed. >> reporter: panic when it lands on the lawn of the capitol. >> it's like a flying lawnmower. it's wide open. it's a seat, with an engine and propeller on the back. >> reporter: the aircraft, known as a gyrocopter was piloted by a florida postal worker. identified as doug hughes. >> i'm going to land on the capitol lawn. >> reporter: aboard the machine, hundreds of letters

addressed to congress. >> one for every member of congress that lays out how he can fix campaign finance. >> reporter: passersby were certainly confused by what happened. >> i said oh, my goodness. they're using drones with men to bring the mail. that's how google is going to deliver the mail. then i saw a police car with a siren. he said that's not the u.s. mail. >> reporter: after the landing, officials ordered a temporary lockdown. capitol police quickly responded to the scene, and took hughes into custody. then bomb squad units came out to inspect the copter. many are tossing around worlds like bewildered into how this could happen in what is supposed to be the most secured airspace in the country. one said the police could have shot the copter down if it got closer. but looking at the scene, it's tough to tell how much closer

having to fight bumper to bumper traffic before they can fight crime. right in the middle of the city's hottest development zone, mission bay. and that's raising concerns that police could get bogged down during emergency. checking out the situation firsthand. >> reporter: julie, no question, starting as early as 4:30 is this afternoon, cars were backed up. police vehicles have to come out of the underground garage here, and have to turn right into that traffic. game day and sunshine at at&t park equals a flow of fans, and cars, carrying crowds that can top 44,000 people, all converging at the corner of king and third street. bumper to bumper traffic passes right in front of the new public safety building. housing police headquarters and the southern station.

that means for police officers leaving the underground garage, it can be a slow exit from china basin street districtly into game day gridlock. >> we're exploring options on how we should proceed. >> reporter: the san francisco municipal transportation agency acknowledges what they must face. forced to turn left, with no option of a right turn. we did see some officers give up, and turn around to try to find an alternate way out. but it isn't as easy as painting new lines. there is a bump in the road from the concrete serves, separating the muni lanes from the concrete turns. meantime police say the traffic should not interfere with officers responding to an emergency. >> our officers are constantly going out on patrol, going from

one call to another call. for the most part, they're not going to be in the station. >> reporter: police, the calls are staggered. >> we have overlapping shifts within that to prevent that from happening. >> reporter: they can dispatch officers from one of the other nine districts. >> we have officers in the outer districts that can come in and help us, or help southern station with whatever incident arises in the city. tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., it's the official grand opening celebration for this new building and the sfmta spokesperson tells me they'll continue working with police to try and resolve the traffic issue. >> as we all know traffic can be bad in san francisco. jana, thank you. time is running out to get your taxes to the irs. the deadline is midnight less than two hours from now. the irs says millions of of americans always wait until the last few hours. these days, the vast majority also use electronic filing. if you need to mail your

returns, there's only one post office in the bay area that's actually open until midnight. that's the one at san francisco international airport. on capitol hill today, the head of the irs admitted his agency has problems serving taxpayers when they need help in person or on the phone. >> on bad days, fewer than 40% of the calls are able to receive a live assister. >> budget cuts that amounted to $1.2 billion. he said the irs couldn't hire enough workers this tax season. that also means fewer audits. the commissioner warned tax cheats not to assume they won't get caught. tensions were running high today as lawmakers debated the mandatory vaccine bill, that would eliminate california's personal belief exemption. hundreds of opponents showed up to oppose the bill. they made what's considered a somewhat surprising decision. >> let's begin, please. >> reporter: it was standing

room only at the capitol today for a heated debate over mandatory vaccines. >> vaccines are dangerous. i will not vaccinate my boys, and this is an infringement of my god-given rights. >> reporter: it would eliminate a loophole allowing parents to opt-out of vaccinations because it conflicts with their personal beliefs. >> i'm in fear of this law. i don't want the government telling me what i'm going to be injecting into my children's bodies. >> reporter: but the bill's author says he's fighting for public health. >> last year, we had 644 cases of measles, in the united states. a record high. >> reporter: supporting the bill, 7-year-old red crowley. a leukemia surviver. >> tell us why you're here today. >> so that the vaccine law passes so that, that most, that

everybody should get vaccinated. >> i won't be able to support the bill today. >> reporter: the bill ran into a buzz saw of opposition at the capitol, with even fellow democrats pushing back. >> if i were you, i would not take a vote today. >> reporter: that's exactly what happened today that controversial mandatory vaccination bill put on hold one more week, giving supporters time to garner more votes. ktvu fox 2 news. a couple from houston has become the parents of the first ever all girl quintuplets in the united states to survive. danielle busby, her husband adam, and big sister blake are overjoyed by the arrival of olivia, hazel, parker, and riley. it only took four minutes to deliver the babies by c section. the mom said she had to eat 4500 calories a day, just to keep those babies nourished during her pregnancy.

church bells rang as boston paused today to remember the moment two years ago, when those bombs exploded at the boston marathon finish line. one of those who was badly injured was an 11-year-old boy from martinez. aaron hern. his parents are worried the injury may have affected his growth. >> he feels like he's not as big as some of his peers.

we wondered did that affect his development. >> his growth in any way. >> where he's recovering, because he was behind for so long. >> they were standing at the finish line, waiting to see his mother complete the race. dzhokhar tsarnaev was found guilty last week, and could now face the death penalty. former new england patriots star aaron hernandez guilty of killing his one time friend. the 25-year-old hernandez had little reaction as the jury found him guilty of first degree murder. it carries the sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. the victim was odin lloyd, a semi professionallal football player. outside court, lloyd's mom spoke about the loss of her son. >> i love him dearly. >> the first degree verdict carries an automatic appeal, and the legal troubles aren't

over for aaron hernandez, he is suspected in a drive-by shooting that left two men dead in 2012. marijuana is going to stay on the government's list of most dangerous drugs. today, a u.s. district junk in sacramento decided that marijuana will continue to be classified as a schedule 1 drug. schedule 1 drugs include heroin, and lsd, and are defined as drugs with no accepted medical use, and a high potential for abuse. that has put states like california that have legalized medical marijuana in conflict with the federal government's laws, and in some cases, that's led to legal raids on growers, and dispensaries. the dow rose 75 points, nasdaq rose 33. and the s & p gained 10-points. if you've ever wanted to have lunch with apple ceo tim

smash and grab burglars caught in the act. surveillance video shows vintage thieves in an art store in san francisco. the they have -- the theft is just the latest in a series. this latest one happened in a store named stuff on valencia street. david stevenson gives us a closer look at the surveillance video. >> reporter: san francisco's stuff store is filled with 17,000 square feet of vintage

furniture and art. its owners are counting on modern surveillance photos. >> they used people that were on the streets as lockouts, while they did share work. >> reporter: using what police aappears to be a slingshot to break through the front door at about 4:30 this morning. the thieves race in, and head to displays, showcasing silver jewelry and other items. one smashes a case and fills a bag. another quickly takes down two tv monitors, and runs out of the store. they're in and out in under 2 minutes with the stolen goods. james young estimates he lost as much as $5,000 in silver jewelry. >> just trying to clean up my mess and start all over. >> it seems like these smash and grabs are happening more frequently? >> reporter: merchants here see it as part of a troubling trend of mash and grabs in the city. in some cases, burglars have used cars to smash through
