cowboys and indians. >> reporter: another arrest, the sex offenders who escaped from santa clara county and went on the run. they tracked him down in mississippi. >> never closure till the person that committed the crime faces justice. that is gratifying. >> the high number of arrests in the city where the police department is stretched thin is a big help. he says the lull in crime may not last long. >> with arrests like this is letting them no you can't get away with crime. there is consequences. >> reporter: officials say there is no way to measure the reduction in crime with these people behind bars but it means they won't be adding to the violence. it is just a fraction of the effort that netted 7,000 arrests. >> lot of arrests. thank you very much. the district attorney announced today another suspect has been charged in the killing

of a mother. chyemil pierce was hit by a stray bullet last month when gunfire erupted. 30-year-old mother of three was struck by a stray bullet and killed as she tried to shield her children from gunfire. the district attorney said julian ambrose has been charged with murder, attempted murder. he will be prosecuted as an adult. now to developing news in alameda county. the corner con-- coroner confirmed the body found is that of a missing hiker. he was discovered about 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. he was from palo alto. he was reported missing yesterday hiking. it is an area he was familiar with. he hiked there many times before. ktvu's rob roth here now with the sad ending to the search. rob? >> reporter: the coroner had to be flown by helicopter to where the body was discovered and

late today he confirmed that it is that of the hiker missing since yesterday. >> reporter: a team of 45 searchers and 5 dogs scoured the area where he said he was hiking yesterday. a 5-1/2 mile loop in the wilderness. >> this is the area. >> reporter: he hiked the trail many times. he was due to return yesterday, when he didn't his companion called authorities. the such last night turned up -- search last night turned up nothing but this afternoon was different. >> our helicopter was circling one of the highest peaks and they located what appeared to be a body. >> reporter: authorities say the body resembles his picture. the discovery was made 500 feet below the trail. >> that is what we are trying to determine, whether or not he fell or whether or not he was

>> if approved it would place limits on the data collecting and prohibit sharing the information and put time restrictions on how long they can hold on to the information. a group of catholics in san francisco is calling on the pope to replace the archbishop. 100 catholics took out a ad in the san francisco chronicle today. they want pope francis to replace archbishop salvatore cordileone. this comes following months of friction over the archbishop's interpretation of church dockren which many wereceive as anti gay and -- perceive as anti-gay and anti-woman. the archbishop said they do not speak for the inspire san francisco catholic community. a spokesman declined comment but pointed us towards a puscission in support of the archbishop -- petition in

stray but stolen. >> first time i cried out of happiness and not sadness. >> reporter: lost, now found. if only this dog could talk. in berkeley, noelle walker, ktvu fox 2 news. the driver of an suv that crashed in san jose killing two people and injuring three is under arrest. police say the driver lost control of the car about 10:00 p.m. last night and hit a center divide. the impact caused the suv to roll over and it didn't come to a rest till it landed on vta tracks. police say 5 people were inside the car. two died at the scene. three were rushed to the hospital. police arrested the 23-year-old on drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter charges. officials say the tracks were cleared at 3:30 p.m. this morning and the commute was not impacted. the anniversary of the violence against women act. today the family justice center

is receiving special recognition. she heads up the office at the u.s. justice department. she says the center provides a valuable one stop location for victims to access legal, health and other support services. >> we know that this is a problem that is chronic. we know this is a problem that has been going on for a long time and we can only address it by working together in a coordinated fashion. >> officials say in 2012, 14,500 bay area women called 911 to report domestic violence. there are likely thousands more who never made the calls. governor jerry brown met with business leaders to talk about the drought and the water restrictions he ordered. the people represented large water users. all impacted by the drought.
