we have a lot of low clouds and fog. i checked the calendar to make sure it's not june because that is the pattern weather wise. if you don't have the fog, it's probably breezy to windy out of the west. thunderstorms continue to fall apart in the sierra and the cloud cover moves over to us. it's the big fog bank for most of us here. for most it will be in the 60s and 70s. that will pop up today and tomorrow and wednesday. not really playing into our weather expect for high and mid level clouds. 50s on your temps. 52 fairfield. they have gusts to 31 miles an hour. i think patty i said what about cordelia? she said yes, it's windy here. a westerly breeze in place. it will be cooler for everybody today. there is a lot of fog out there. breezy and cooler. you remember breezy and cooler, dave. morning team on ksfo.

60s and 70s. speaking of radio dj. >> those were the days. i could show up to work not wearing a tie. but i digress. let's take a look at your traffic. i like wearing ties. but any way. let's move on. i want to take a look at interstate 880 north and southbound. it is not a bad commute here. the east bay commute is heading up a -- is heating up a little bit here. there is 1078 areas that will be busier. there are already delays here. about a 15 minute wait before you get on to the bridge. the metering lights have been switched on for 15-20 minutes now. good news that crash we had on westbound 580 right on the top of the dublin grade has cleared. all lanes are open. but the traffic is going to be slow as you drive out of

dublin. you will have to give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes. a lot of people heard about this crash and they went down to 680. now let's go back to the desk. a car was stolen out of the driveway wan eight-year-old boy inside. this happened on meadow lark drive. the chp says the car is a silver 2001 toyota corolla. the boy is named rock goods man. he is said to be caucasian with blond hair and blueys. we will bring you details as we bring you in. the 119th boston marathon is officially under way.

just a short time ago the mobility impaired group of runners talk off from the start line. in 15 minutes from now the wheelchair heat will begin. 30,000 runners from more than 80 countries are participating in this event security very tight after the 2013 bombing that killed three people and severely injuried 260 others. >> i see the city has stepped up. >> but now security barriers line the streets and you do have to go through check points to watch the race near the start and finish lines. also happening now hundreds of runners gather in san francisco justin herman plaza in just about an hour from now

they will also be running to honor victims of the 2013 boston bombings. the race is organized by the san francisco marathon. it is in its third year. they will now decide if he should get life in prison or the death penalty. now only a few peel have been executed on federal charges. legal analysts say with the death penalty sentiment in massachusetts tsarnaev is not expected to be sentenced to death. back here at home happening today the 420 marijuana celebrations in golden gate park it will bring thousands of pot smokers to the city. organizers say the crowd gets bigger and bigger. tara moriarty is joining us live where there is a growing

movement to legalize recreational use. >> more than half of u.s. adults believe the legalization of marijuana could happen within the next 20 years. it's already legal in colorado, alaska, oregon and washington. workers at medical marijuana dispensaries are fired up for today. this is their biggest day of the year they say.

they will also be monitoring the -- but they say that is definitely a last resort. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty back to you. >> all right tara, thank you. we'll talk to you later. president obama is voicing support for decriminalizing medical marijuana. the president told cnn he thinks carefully prescribed medical use of marijuana may be appropriate. and that we should follow science as opposed to ideology. bill was introduced in the senate seeking to reduce the federal government's ability to crack down on state legal medical marijuana. the bay area focused on the

drought and water restrictions but might seem strange to worry about flooding but there is a report that warns we at risk for a super storm in the future. janine de la vega is in palo alto to explain why experts say we're not prepared. janine. >> reporter: pam, the report was done by the nonprofit bay area council. and in it it says because of extreme climate change, we could experience major flooding in low lying areas of the bay area. despite california is experiencing a drought, the weather here is volatile. and experts say that sea levels are expected to rise by 11-24 inches by 2050 which would also have a dramatic impact on the region. the levies, seawalls, and channels that protect our communities are old and in need of repair. there is a map that shows the threatened areas in red which

includes homes, schools, power stations, and hospitals. 80% would be in marin, san mateo, and santa clara county. the council released a video on youtube explaning its region. >> we have had a history in california of a mega flood. enormous rain event occurring every 150-if t hundred years -- 150-200 years. even though we are in a drought now, we need to be prepared for the day that may welcome when we have something like a hurricane sandy or katrina here in the bay area. >> they are being encouraged to invest in infrastructure that is is dated. while some efforts are under way, the study found that not enough is being done. they also talked about the damage that would be estimated

at $10.4 billion. and that is roughly the same amount of damage that occurred during the earthquake. >> incredible. thank you. a big southern california wild fire is 30% contained. it has burned more than 1,000 acres. officials say the fire was started by someone who walked away from a cooking fire. the golden state warriors hope to take a two games to none lead in their nba playoff series with the new orleans pelicans. that is when the warriors built up a big lead but the pelicans fought back. chipping away at that lead. the warriors barely won. >> i liked having spurts where

jail. this happened yesterday afternoon around 1:00 p.m.. the cyclist suffered a puncture lung and broken collarbone after witnesses say the uber driver deliberately hit him with his car. the driver identified as emerson carbalo. he was ayred and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. the two men argued and shouted at each other. >> i just heard people yelling. >> he's a cyclist from witness accounts where banging on the uber cabs window. pushing in a side view mirror. >> after that cars mirror was pushed they both picked up speed and the uber car served hitting the bikes rear wheel. or thoughts are with the victim of this terrible incident as we gather more information.

pg&e says no gas leaks were found in the pipeline that exploded near fresno. pg&e says its crews conducted two inspections on the pipe this month. a ground survey on april 1st and aerial survey on april 16th. no leaks were found in either test. friday's explosion was caused by damage from a vehicle. the blast sent 11 people to the hospital. four in critical injury. the secret service confirming yet another person was caught trying to jump over the white house fence. it happened just before 10:30. investigators say the intruder was immediately arrested. that person was carrying a package. that incident comes in the wake of several high profile security breaches in washington. generating very serious concerns about security. last year one man actually made it all the way inside the white house. that led to the addition of a

[ laughter ] >> that is right. >> let's take a look at the commute now on westbound 24. it's moderate. it's not that bad. there is a little bit of slow traffic. i thought some people would use 24 if they could instead of using dublin grade. that might be a stretch. it's a long way to go out of your way. we.edu have a problem on the dublin grade. let's go to 880 north and southbound. that traffic is moving well in both directions. what i'm talking about we go to the maps. we had an earlier accident at the top of the dublin grade. it did cause some problems.

880 from 238 most of this is in hayward. this is a pretty busy part of the bay area right now. 6:18 let's go to steve with today's forecast. >> my tan is natural too. >> i see. okay. >> wake up looking this good. >> dope. >> thank you, sir. we have a lot of low clouds and fog. it will be a cooler week for everybody here. the interesting fly in the ointment if you will is that there is thunderstorms erupting off the sierra. some of that blow off when they collapse. you can see some of that there. it's really the fog that is the big story. 50s on the coast. upper 50s and 60s in san francisco or very, very low 60s. 60s around the bay as well. and then get over the coastal hills. it's almost a june pattern. but once you get far enough inland 70s. i went 77 in antioch. there will be a couple low 80s. antioch in there.

we are live outside the radio station in berkeley. over the weekend a popular radio host and producer there was killed by a hit and run driver. you can see a memorial is set up in his memory. alex savidge is there. he will tell us more about the search for that driver and how the community is pulling together to help the family of wesley burton.

just because. low clouds coming west to east but high and mid level clouds from thunderstorms coming east to west off the sierra. that may -- we will get some cloud cover out of that. they die down late in the afternoon and evening. 50s on the temps here. some of these may pose a thunderstorm threat as we head toward wednesday and thursday. it will be cooler for everybody today. even some of the most inland locations will come down a coach or two. that means a lot lot of 70s. we had one issue earlier. anything else? yeah it will be tough. and driving over to the main part this is a look at 280 in san jose. you see san jose and the north bay commutes have been okay but the east bay commutes have been rather rough and we're going to go to the maps.

i want to show you traffic will be slow on 680 heading south as you drive out of the dublin area and head down to the fremont area through the sunol grade. people have been avoiding this. that is gone. it might be back to a better view or a better commute westbound 580. it is still very slow on 580. solid from livermore to dublin. this is alterable commute. if you're driving on 880, it is slow through union city. this part of the bay obviously is having a lot of slow traffic in it right now. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic is backed up. it's a 15-20 minute delay before you make it on to the span. 6:33 let's go back to the desk. we continue to follow that breaking news. an amber alert has been issued in fairfield. we want you to take a look at this photo. this is eight-year-old brock guzman. he was inside a car that was

the run here in san francisco certainly not as big as the boston marathon but talking to any of the runners out here that will be here equals insignificance. we are lye at justin herman plaza. the race it's not official or anything like that. just a bunch of runners that have connection to a the boston marathon that are out here today. now as we go to video now, this is new video of the preparations in boston right now for the race. in fact, that race is under way from what we understand. runners from more than 80 countries participating. this is not just a race to sign up for, you have to qualify for this race. security very tight after especially after the 2013 bombing that skill three people. injured 260 others. there are 100 surveillance cameras. a team of officers. and for the first time antidrone technology to spot threats from the air.

fans have to go through security to watch the race along the course. there are also barriers now where people before could walk and watch as they pleased. >> it will take a little bit longer but not a big deal. slightly inconvenient but one could given the situation. it's an inconvenience but a necessary one. >> reporter: here in san francisco an estimated 100 to 200 runners will run a 5k or 3.1 miles along the embarcadero. this is a 5k. it starts and ends here. it will start at the same time as the boston marathon. the race organized by the san francisco marathon. >> reporter: burton hosted the after hours program at kpfa and also side show radio as well. he spent many years working in radio in the east bay. he also worked at the youth rodeo training program which is where i met him back in the 1990s. the crash that ended his life suddenly happened at 2:20 in the morning at mlk and 60s street in oakland. police say it was a speeding dodge charger that slammed into burton's car leaving him dead at the scene. the driver of that dodge charger according to police then got out and ran off after the crash and that person was gone when officers got there to that scene. now burton's family and friends are struggling to make sense of his sudden death. >> we enjoy creating radio. loved his kids. loved his pamly -- loved his family. loved his life. he was at the height of his

life. >> reporter: and there has been a go fund me account set up to help his wife and children with expenses during this difficult time. already people have donated more than $13,000. now as for the investigation here, it's unclear if oakland police have been able to identify the driver of the car that struck and killed burton early on saturday morning. again that person ran off and left the scene. but we will be in touch with police this morning to see what they know as far as the identity of that driver. the fact that this person ran off after the accident obviously very troubling for friends and family of burton. we'll send it back to you. >> yeah particularly upsetting. thank you alex. 6:39 is the time right now. the high school student that was hit and killed by a taxi over the weekend would have celebrated her 18th birthday today. that crash happened near the corner of larkin and pine street saturday night. investigators say the girl who has been identified as sienna was with a group of friends

when she darted in front of the taxi preponderate driver stopped and cooperating with police. according to the chronicle she was a senior and on the varsity volley ball team. the search for the missing boaters along the northern marin coast has been called off. they spent three days looking for the remaining two men but found no trace of them. two others died in friday's boating accident. their bodies were found on saturday morning. the crew launched their boat out of the bodega bay for a fishing trip but it's still unclear what caused the accident. we have details of mandatory water cut back that the state will require starting in june. the restrictions vary widely. people in san francisco i have to cut water consumption by 8%. the number is twice as big as east bay mud customers. it's 20% in san jose. people in hillsborough you will have to make the biggest cut.

36%. in baseball the bench is emptied for the third straight day as the oakland a's played the kansas city royals. it all got started in the first inning. the royals manager was kicked out of the game. the a's had the lead when royals pitcher kelvin threw behind brent lowery in the eighth inning. lowery he thought the pitcher said he would hit him in the head next time. he said the motion was done to say think about it. the ball slipped because of the rain that started to fall. the royals won the game 4-2. giants are off to a disappointing 4-10 start. they lost yesterday to arizona 5-1. one day after breaking that eight-game losing streak.

welcome back to mornings on 2. new this morning a teach never barcelona was killed on an attack in a public school. police have detained a boy they say was younger than 14. the teacher was killed with some kind of bladed weapon. two other teachers and top students were also hurt in that attack. today marks would you believe 16 years since this? the columbine school tragedy in colorado. one of the deadliest cases of school violence in the u.s.. the massacre at columbine high school two students walked on to the campus they gunned down

12 classmates and a teacher and committed suicide. more than 20 others were hurt. columbine high school is closed today. there will be a ceremony later this morning with a moment of silence and the reading of the names of those that were killed. a ceremony yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of the bombing of the federal building in oklahoma city where 168 people were killed. the bombing of the alfred p. building was the deadliest act of terrorism in american history. some survivors and government officials spoke including former president bill clinton. timothy mcvey set off the truck bomb in 1975. his coconspirator terri nickels remains in prison. the fbi in minneapolis planning to announce more information about at the arrest

of six people in san diego. the case involves young people who traveled or tried to travel into syria to fight alongside isis. now authorities say a handful of minnesota residents have traveled to syria to fight with militants within the last year and at least one of them has died. one person is dead after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake off the coast of taiwan. this is the shaking from inside an office building in psi one. the quake hit early this morning. they felt it in the capitolty temperature authorities advised nearby islands to evacuate as part of a tsunami safety precaution but that advisory was lifted after only an hour. so far reports of damage appears to be minimal. that one confirmed death it was from a house fire triggered by that earthquake. it's now 6:47.

good morning. time is 6:55. in the past hour we found out that a third ship carrying 300 refugees bounds for europe has sunk. killing at least 20 people. it's the second accident today involving a boat with refugees from the middle east. this morning's tragedy comes as the search continues for survivors after a smuggler ship carrying syrian migrants capsized over the weekend. more than 700 people were said to be on that ship. so far just 28 have been found alive. hundreds of refugees from the middle east are believed to have died in recent weeks due to the capsizing of over loaded smuggling boats bound for europe. bay area armenians mark the

100th anniversary of what is called the first genocide of the 20th century. they marched to the mount davidson cross to remember the 1.5 million armenian christians killed in 1915. that region is now known as turkey. the deaths were part of a civil war not genocide but armenians are demanding citizen and worldwide knowledge on what happened. a drunk driver until new jersey who crashed a car and knocked unconscious in that burning car is alive thanks to the quick action of two police officers. a police dash camera captured a dramatic rescue. this happened thursday. a 45-year-old woman crashed her car. police quickly arrived. they find the car flipped over. you see the smoke pouring out.

using a knife, they cut the woman's seat belt off. they pulled her out of that burning car. 24 seconds later, the car burst into flames. that woman was treated for nonlife threatening injuries but she is now facing several criminal charges. coming up next in our 7:00 hour, we do continue to follow that breaking news of an amber alert. we want to get that word out. an eight-year-old boy from fairfield. take a look at this photo there. the stolen car police want you to keep an eye out for. >> wii been feed cushioning on water conservation. the reason some people say the bay area should be preparing for a super storm that could cause some serious damage.
