[ indiscernible ] >> okay. somebody took your car and your son was inside? >> yes. >> how old is your son? >> he is 8. >> the parents of brock guzman say he was inside the car while it was warming up this morning. the parents say they went back inside for 30 seconds and when they came out their car and the child was gone. 4 hours later a resident noticed the missing car outside their home and called police. the boy was still inside the

car asleep and unharmed. >> he woke up, the guy said, he didn't know he was in the car and pulled over. got out. my boy went back to sleep. >> he was reunited with his parents at 9:00 a.m. this morning. police haven't released the name of the person of interest. a college student appeared in court today as a suspect in a string of attempted kidnappings involving teenage girls. police arrested him on thursday. he goes to cal state east bay. he is the man who targeted four teenage girls in recent months. some students were so nervous they started carrying a whistle and pepper spray. >> the school had a safety assembly and told us about it. told us newt walk home by ourselves, stay in groups. stay off our phones. >> police say they searched the suspect's home and found a nit

hat and a toy gun that was used. he is due back in court tomorrow to enter a plea. new at 6:00 p.m. problems for a computer researcher who was trying to board a flight to san francisco after united took issue with his tweets about airline security. in his tweets he talked about hacking into a flight's computer and that caught the attention of federal agents. ktvu's david stevenson spoke with him about the incident and how he says it highlights a bigger issue. >> reporter: it is the type of amenity passengers grown to expect. technology and wifi access. but pointing out vulnerables in the systems was enough to get him in trouble with united airlines. . >> i am on the plane. looking that entertainment system and i am aware i can go from here and go through several other systems on the plane's netters and get to the

control services -- networks and get to the control services. >> reporter: he questioned whether he could hack into the plane's computers. >> that tweet came because i was looking at one of the flight manuals that we found. >> reporter: police and fbi escorted him off the plane, questioned him. on saturday security stopped him from boarding a flight to san francisco. the airline released a statement, a clear violation of united policy, we decided it is in the best interest of customers and crew members that he not be allowed to fly united. >> we think it is a over reaction. he is a security researcher well between the the fbi and to

-- known to the fbi. . >> they wanted to see what he is claiming if he can or cannot do. >> reporter: he says he should have taken more time before sending the original tweet but he hopes it will spur a closer look at security. david stevenson, ktvu fox 2 news. a man appeared in court in washington, d.c. today accused of jumping a white house fence last night. the secret service says the 54- year-old jerome hunt made it 10- 15 feet on to the lawn of the white house. he pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor unlawful entry. he was released and he told reporters he didn't mean any harm. group of university of california students traveled to sacramento today to demand their voices be heard about possible tuition hikes. >> the students say they are concerned about a 5% increase in their tuition and they want

governor jerry brown and janet napolitano to include them in their talks about the increase and funding for education. one sophomore says she works two jobs, taken out loans and her mother's 401(k) is gone. >> so to see it increase again, would mean so much more hardship for my family, especially because i have a younger brother who is starting college. for so many other families. >> the students challenged lawmakers to provide more money for higher education so it could be affordable to them and their families. nurses at five northern california hospitals are getting ready for a strike on april 30. it is part of a larger effort involving three other california hospitals as well as a hospital in chicago. they say they are calling calling to focus on staff

issues. it will effect sutter health facilities and santa rosa hospital, mills peninsula hospital. breast cancer cases could increase 50% over the next 15 years according to research released today. much may be because women are living longer and there are other factors too. ktvu's john fowler has this story. >> reporter: right now 1-8 women will get a diagnosis of breast cancer. in a decade it could be 1-6. >> it alarms me because my mother last year was diagnosed with breast cancer. >> it is shocking. i have several friends that had breast cancer. some recovered and some have not recovered. >> reporter: researchers used a model predicting more women will be living longer. >> as the population ages and we live longer you are likely

to see more cancers. other cancers as well. >> reporter: she says a glimmer of good news is breast cancers in older women are more often er positive tumors which rely on estrogen to treat. she says this study is a call to action for better screening and for women to pay closer attention to changes in their bodies bodies and exercise but she says something in the environment has been triggering increasing rates of breast cancer for decades. doctors say till science understands the triggers and how to block them, we will continue to see more stories like this. john fowler, ktvu fox 2 news. today is 4/20 4/20 and today we look at the politics

today is april 2 or 4/20, a day pot smokers consider a holiday. sky fox was over head at 4:20 this afternoon at the peak of the 4/20 celebration. you can see thousands of people there lighting up on hippy hill at san francisco golden gate park and on this 4/20 people who support making american legal in california are trying to highlight their cause. >> if they have their way next year you will vote on whether to legalize use of the drug in california. ktvu's noelle walker has the story new at 6:00 p.m. [ music playing ] the hades over hippy hill is -- haze over hippy hill, it is 4/20. thousands gathered for the one day tradition. >> you get a social high. you get high from the

experience even. you know what i mean? >> reporter: there is strength in numbers. >> our gay marriage moment. people are coming out of the closet. >> reporter: leading the charge to put recreational use of marijuana on the ballot in california in 2016. she executive chancellor at a university that teaches people the business of growing cannabis. the idea is growing in acceptance. >> seeing that in the polls, main street and on wall street too. >> reporter: a poll showed 53% favor recreational use of marijuana. that is up from 32% in 2006. 23 states already legalize marijuana in some form but only four allow recreational use. california would be the largest state to allow it if it passed. >> it is the largest cash crop

in california. the question is, by whom, to whom. >> reporter: she has to fight the stoner image. >> once folks realize it is not just stupid stoners that it is the soccer moms, it is professionals, folks that are too smart to talk about it. >> reporter: waiting to see how voters right reap them. voters failed in 2010 but they believe this time will be different. in san francisco, noelle walker, ktvu fox 2 news. california law enforcement may have a new tool in getting drunk drivers off the roads. it uses a samplal of saliva and shows if there are drugs in the driver's system. a law maker authored a bill that would allow law enforcement agencies to use that device. . >> disheartening to share the worse news possible that their
